This is by far one of the best videos I've seen teaching scales. I was expecting a dry "here's the pentatonic, here's the mixolydian, here's the phrygian" like most other videos, but you exceeded every expectation I had. Absolutely phenomenal!

Dude, you're blowing my mind. I'm a guitarist, and coming at this stuff from blues & rock. But you're showing me great approaches, and explaining it so well. What I really dig is that you show the ideas musically. A lot of the concepts I had, but not how to use them. Also for me, I am starting to understand and incorporate into my playing some of the things jazz & other keyboard players do so well, so it doesn't sound "scalish" or like typical guitar sounds. Thanks for some great videos - not just for keys!

    This is so great!
for 12:18, I would say the pentatonic a tritone away sounds better when the left hand is playing a dominant with a flat five. In this case, the sound is probably stronger when you're playing a tritone sub in the spot for the dominant. Still play the right pentatonic a tritone from the left hand sub, but it sounds a little sweeter to me.

Cool deal!!! Good point! Often I will leave the five off completely...

Corey, it never occurred to me to think of the melodic-minor scale working over a II-7 (as a parallel scale). The closest I might have come to that would have been using the C# as a chromatic approach to the C natural or the D. But wow, you've opened my mind and ears!

Thanks Nick. Yes practice is the key. Getting the information into our head is great, but it's not until it gets into our fingers and hearts that it really becomes music. Keep Practicing!

Great tutorial, Corey. I like your explanations, your practice suggestions, and especially show how you can use the scales on songs. I love your style of playing and am determined to learn your style in order to incorporate it into my playing. Good talking to you the other day. Take care, my fellow musician.

That's the interesting thing about music, even when you know it, hearing it again from someone else gives you a different perspective. This is why we all need each other, as everyone has a different take on the same idea... I find this to be true when teaching...I end up learning so much from my students.

Ok sir thanks in advance. Firstly i will like you help me reharmonize some simple church line chords like (1-4-5; 2-5-1; 1-5-6-4; 1-4-5-4; ...) and let them feel more reach and pretty to listen (gospel or jazzy like). Secondly can i have a bref explanation on phrygian, mixolidian, lydian, and dorian mode? thank you in advance Corey!
