Bagooska, for example, completely destroys the Yokai folklore reference (which is why he is a fiend, not a beast). Alcoholism is curiously common among yokais lol Fiend Comedian is clearly a reference to Manzai comedy duos. There was real work put into thinking these artworks, regardless of immediate aesthetical "coolness".

I was not aware that Shadow Feeler was basically removed from the dub, apart from a 1 second glimpse of it when IV explained how he survived C101's attack.
The two arts of Polymerization you showed isn't actually censorship, it's an alternate art. The first one is a weirdly meta version of the more common art, and the Spell Card in the middle of it is supposed to BE the the more common one... but it was actually censored, because that ornate seal in the English version is a hexagram in Japan.

The censorsing that I find the most upsetting are the ones that discard the extra effort the artists put into creating meaning just from the Card Art.
Bagooska, for example, completely destroys the Yokai folklore reference (which is why he is a fiend, not a beast). Alcoholism is curiously common among yokais lol
Fiend Comedian is clearly a reference to Manzai comedy duos.
There was real work put into thinking these artworks, regardless of immediate aesthetical "coolness".
As if non japanese would get those references
Wouldn't be the first time artists that are involved with Yugioh (mangakas too) got mistreated. IIRC, Konami doesn't even let them take credit for their own art. Idk if this has changed, but it was like that for a long time.
Yeah also his original name was so much cooler. His OG name its not ""Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir"" his OG japanese name is Number 41: Mud-Sleeping Demon Beast - Baguska.
As if westerners care about japanese arts
@@crisalidx5881 Nah bro, the alliteration in the sleepy fuck is way better
lost art promo detailed armpits waiting room
I always thought it was weird to censor guns for a country you know known for THEIR guns
Konami censoring armpits is one step away from censoring ankles like it's Victorian England.
Baby Tiragon is another really funny example where they took away his little 2 cm horns.
Datatron is by far my favorite censorship for the ammount of effort put into it
as Rata once said, "Oh, so a forklift is an acceptable crotch (for a giant robot), but a rocket salvo is not"
My favorite card censorship is super dreadnought rail cannon (gustaf max) konami chose to put a round of ammunition just out of the barrel that’s just so funny
Giving clothes to the Nordic Alfar cards has always been the weirdest for me. It looks both terrible and questionable.
Did nobody mention the card Tragedy? Not only does it fit into the category of "Censored Artwork that is more iconic than the Original" but it is also notable for the fact that the Censored artwork is INFINITELY more intimidating and menacing than the original.
Also: A minor shout out to Battery Man Fuel Cell's "HO".
Tragedy was in the thread like 20 times
@@StarfieldDisarray Ah, didn't know. I don't use Twitter so I never actually check out the full thread and only watch these highlight videos.
swear to god your cadence and delivery at 6:12 on the line "they glued his ass crack shut" sounds EXACTLY like the Angry Videogame Nerd. like it perfectly matches his style of over the top disbelief. I laughed so hard my family had to check on me
I’m dying after hearing what he had to say about Soitsu
The only thing they don't censor are the poses and clothes of Lolis. See Traptrix without getting a call from Chris Hansen.
After a tournament they handed out some lost art promo cards to those who topped. I never realized how different cyber angel Idaten’s original art was until then 😂
Dian Keto more like Dian Tito
So the part of pendulum area being changed isn’t actually the chain link, but rather the name of the school in the background which is LDS(the one from arc-v) in the Tcg version it’s changed to the dub version LID
A robot with ballistic cockets.
Apparently giant salvo dick is bad but crotch forklift (Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder) is totally okay.
In the early days of yugioh I get it why they saw the needed to censor stuff. But now? Srsly? Half the playerbase aren't even children anymore ._.
I remember the art designer for magi magi magician girl wouldn't even let the card be in the tcg because he didn't want it censored.
Don’t demean takahashi by referring to him simply as an art designer
Satanic Panic clearly traumatized someone at konami
Surprised no one mentioned the anime only censorship of changing sake to hot sauce which included changing Chumley's dad deck entirely from "Drunken" to "Dizzy" as well
MBT at 12:16am let's goooooooooooooooooooo
Jeez, us armpit fans can't have anything, can we? ...Uh, I mean... the armpit fans... whomever they may be...
As a gay person into bears in tight clothing, you are correct, there is something extremely hot about seeing just a peak of someone's tummy
Barrel behind the door.... Is just a more ornate gun
I think the exosisters color change is to look less like military uniforms, which is fine cuz like, one of them is still clearly carrying munitions crates
Did anyone mention the obvious Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max? That one was very dumb to me because iirc Super Dora and Juggernaut Liebe were basically unchanged as far as I know. But for Gustav they turned the steel cannon into some blue pencil thing lol
I always think of the nipple spikes they put on the armor for a lot of the older cards.
The funniest one for me is Arrivalrivals. It looked too much like a woman going down on another woman, so they made the first one do the anime cheek pull thing so you could tell they're enemies and not gay
The gravey in the second card was Mooyan Curry, a reference to a REALLY classic card.
Twitter thread idea: The "power nine" cards of yugioh. Cards that are so powerful they will never be unbanned, just like MTGs "Power Nine". Sure theres the obvious like Pot of Greed and Delinquent Duo, but hey why not.
Spy C-Spy's Gravy Boat is actually Curry. I used it enough in Forbidden Memories that I should know.
5:50 - something they'd been worried about since they first employed Kojima, it turns out.
Alternative Title: Konami has no idea if this card game is for kids or not.
I cannot believe they censored TOON Barrel Dragon. it’s still a goofy cartoon gun in the OCG art because that’s the point of it being a toon
Last day of the witch is straight up one of the darkest cards they ever censored
In witchcrafter holiday they censored the drool from madam verre when she is sleeping
Is thinking they are censoring armpits instead of sideboob more pure or less pure?
Don't censor both
I love both
Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle was also censored in the TCG, and I think that's the most recent censorship
I love the thumbnail 😂. The jar cringing from the fat bastard emperor 😂
i have no wormkussy and i must scream
