Plus, it's level 7, which gives you access to some of the strongest plays in the game, from synchro summoning to XYZ, to even link summoning BLS. The reason it hasn't aged well is because of the summoning condition. @@HaydenX I think it would need an errata before being legal. Such as a clause where you cannot use the special summoned monsters for Xyz, Link or Synchro material, because there are generic Rank 6 monsters that can be brought out for 2-3k life points, such as "Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal" (Which could allow BA's to perform a bit better), "Pilgrim Reaper" (a ?/? Rank 6 DARK Zombie which gains 200 atk for each dark monster in both graves, which isn't hard to set up with decks like Danger-Darkworld). That's usually the argument. The counter-argument is that Firewall only appeared in 16 episodes, compared to Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, who appeared in just about every episode. A similar argument was also given to Ancient Fairy Dragon.
That’s legit the reason. Banning a card that appears prominantly in your opening while the series is still going is a no. There is a reason they never banned Black Rose Dragon…
Oddly enough, upstart could probably go to three and see no play whatsoever. Most decks right now are struggling to get DOWN to 40 cards, because there's just so many good cards + engines that they're trying to cram into their deck. It'd only really see play in like Striker and Runick
MBT kinda touches on it but upstart gets pushed out of the meta when you need to see handtraps turn 0 because you don't actually play a 37 card deck and that upstart is dead in your hand until your turn.
No. The only time Level Eater was ever used was for degenerate combos with Synchro spam, which ended on 6 Quasers. Even playing Maxx C wasn't enough because they could just deck you out, very easily. I don't know why it took until Link Spam for people to realise the card was busted because it was just always like that.
Actually, it was banned all the way back in 2016 in the ocg for Dark Synchro Spam for hand looping. Before links were even considered. Limiting it to synchros will not stop people from abusing it.
@@archivist469 different time, omega is at 1, norden is banned when we used to abuse it with synchro fusionist, hand traps weren't even busted back then like now, and we have cards now like dark ruler, droplets, nib, etc etc etc.. Metamorphosis is one I throw in as well. Konami was aware of the problem it presented considering they added card text to prevent cheating out fusoons via metamorphosis onto the fusion monsters they were making I.e. first wave Elemental Heroes, yet they they thought that was the better idea than banning the card
While its still very recent, and has yet to be banned (in part thanks to Spright and Tear being dominant rn), I think the Adventure engine is another example of this. It combines the handtrap protection of called by (but more universal and without being reciprocal) with being a 1-card playstarter in a pinch and an extender and a grind game all off of one card. Simply cannot wait for us to be rid of it.

Halqifiberax. That card is legal since spring 2020. Had its own tier 0 format for half a year (people called the decks adamancipators and Synchron Eldlitch but they were both just Halq turbo) It has never not been great, and the half year where tier 1 decks didn’t run it, it was probably still the best thing in the game Has been in literally anything to enable any type of strategy. From hand looping, FTK, domain locks, turn skips and unbreakable boards. Enabled half of the cards in this video It’s not a coincidence that the world had to go into lockdown, when that thing was released.
It's so funny that at worst it's just a free link-3 on its own so it just fits in pretty much every deck. Who thought a generic specialsummon from deck was fine? The card has gotten like 6 other cards banned at this point. How is it still legal in the TCG?
@@maltenuchter7134 the thing is that second effect is so absurdly good too like set up clapback with shooting riser, trigger scythe or pop opponents spell with T.G. Same with auroradon like did it really need the trap recursion third effect as well? I get one effect on a card being busted but when there is 3 it has to be intentional. tbf all those cards would be fine and cool support if they archetype locked you in ANY way
I was super casual until Master Duel came out and then I started to get a little bit better and serious. I was in the "Maxx C at 3 is fine" camp until pushing the Duelist Cup event last month. Fugg Maxx C that card has no right to be at 3 let alone anything above forbidden. Not to mention whenever you use it, the opponent has called by crossout or ash but when your opponent uses it you have no answer. Every Ra-dang time without fail. This card actively makes the game less fun by just existing you can't change my mind now.
I was in the same camp a few years ago during master rule 3, before links. The best board u could make was Crystal wing or infinity pass, :9 your opponent would draw about 5 cards at most, or if u just passed to them they weren’t gonna drop a nuke on u if u had an empty board or no hand traps. Now it’s just ridiculous when they 15 cards, drop veiler or imperm and wipe your whole board with nib then proceed to accesscode OTK u next turn.
Sure I can change your mind. It’s a Best of 1. Without Maxx C or a way to draw the outs whoever goes first if they are playing even remotely good wins. People complain about hand traps all the time but without them you would always lose
@@mrbubbles6468 there's plenty of other cards that only fulfil that purpose. You dont realize that the guy going first can also have Maxx C on your turn PLUS the board they already set up with 3+ negates. There are enough cards people run to not get blown out going 2nd such as Imperm, Veiler, DRNM, and Evenly to name a few. And those cards don't decide games like Maxx C.
"The worst scenario is when your opponent has 15 negates up and they drop Maxx C" FINALLY, SOMEONE ELSE SAYS IT. People only look at how Maxx C affects the player going first into it, not how it breaks things further when used to enhance a built board.
Konami watched this video and went "You think Mine and Scythe have been legal for too long? You mortals know not the meaning of eternity, but I shall teach you." and left both untouched.
TOSS format comes to mind. People were wanting an Engage ban and Colossus limit in particular for ages while Konami seemed dead set on hitting Salad and keeping Orcust from getting splashed with Mermaid. Azathot was also a problem that was legal for way too long. Got the PK RUM banned and was then still played in Lunalight because insulating entirely against hand traps is good enough on its own
Well, tbf TOSS all in all was a really good format. It was around for too long, I agree, but I also understand that Konami didn't want to end a format that was diverse, pretty balanced and allowed some kind of budget access to it
My theory is that cannon soldier is less of a real card and more the canary in the mine; anything that FTK's with cannon soldier is certainly still extremely abusive without it, but it might take longer to figure out than if an FTK deck enters the meta.
The thing with Mystic Mine is that even beyond just the floodgate power, it's not fun. Like, I don't have fun sitting around for 12 turns, desperately hoping to draw my out while my opponent slowly drains me to death.
@@EinSilverRose Fun fact: you're less likely to draw those cards if you have to main backrow removal because you also have to worry about Mine. So this argument doesn't even make sense at face value.
A great example of the exact inverse of this (dire why didn't you put it in the video sadge) was BLS. It came off the list in like 2011, WAYYYYY before it was ready, and terrorized the TCG for like 4-5 years before it was finally power crept.
A personal one for me was Verte Anaconda. It did not take me alot of time to begin considering it one of my least favorite cards of all time. It might not have been dummy broken like something like Firewall or Summon Sorc, but what it did manage to do was be insufferable every time I saw it. 2 effect monsters just let's you cheat the entire fusion mechanic. Fusion summoning with monsters from deck wasn't consistent enough, you gotta give those decks a generic extra deck monster too? Whether it was DPE, Dragoon or whatever, I have a personal grudge against that card just for the principal of the whole thing.
Kaiser Coliseum and Giant Trunade should of been on the list too. While Kaiser Coliseum it wasn't played much until Bujin came along, it definitely was a crazy flood gate as soon Synchros existed, and even plagues older formats by making Stall and Burn a underplayed but very strong deck.
Dragoon, Verte and Red-eyes Fusion. It was a Towers, with negation which could be made at the end of your long combo as an extra threat. Now it doesn't see as much play because of DPE but it was a nightmare to go against. Some decks would just play Dragoon, set 3 backrow and play Necrovalley. Dragoon is a custom card made by a DM fanboy, who has a grudge at anything post Synchro.
Dragoon never saw play in the TCG. It’s why people started saying Verye was not a problem. Because the reason people said it needed to be banned was not seeing any play. It was only when DPE came out it became an issue. Dragoon was never an issue. People just don’t like having to build their deck to factor in their opponant.
I might be wrong, but I think that the A-Assault Core ban was when everyone realized how silly the Firewall Dragon thing was and got around to finally making it a once-per-turn.
There was also Metamorphosis... which became such an easy tool to get specific Fusions on the field with little effort... and as more fusions and fusion support came out, they really had to ban it before it became a problem, but it was around for around 2 years... XD
God I love Maxx "C"! It's literally free plus or straight up shut down any of your opponent's plays and a bunch of Redditors will come out of the woodworks pretending to be Japanese on Twitter saying it's not bad and keep "le combo decks le" in check! What a FAIR and BALANCED card! /s
MBT: Cannon Soldier, Toon Cannon Soldier, Amazoness Archer... Just ban em! Gravekeeper's Cannonholder: What am I? Chopped liver? Seriously, I actually won a match using a combo of three Gravekeeper's Curses, the Cannon Holder, two Rite of Spirits, one Gravekeeper's Headsman, one Dark Room of Nightmare, and a Nightmare's Steel Cage. Blasted over half my opponents life points in two turns and I didn't actually attack with a single monster.
I like how the chat was spamming "MAXX C TO MAXX 3" when that was being discussed. Maxx C doesn't need to be at 3 for anything involving the health of the game. Maxx C needs to be at 3 just for the mountain of salt it would generate.
zeus is the most obvious one of these cards that people tend not to bring up. Almost every deck that even plays 1 xyz monster finds a way to jam it in. People don't bitch about it because its a lot of bad decks best out to some degenerate boards but the card is total cancer in a vacuum.
Wdym it's "cancer in a vacuum"? Not only that, it's also cancer in practice. Non-once per turn, non-once per chain, non-destruction board wipe, btw. Oh, and it also can refill it's materials because fuck it, why not.
I think the funniest thing with Dragon Rulers was that it took the creation of Dark Matter Dragon for Konami to ultimately go "yeah no" and ban all the Rulers in one fell swoop. Like, they were completely fine for the entire two years that they were around, but that was ultimately the final straw. Also, it's not an entirely relevant card nowadays, but iirc Blaze Fenix got a bunch of cards sent to the F/L list just so it could stick around.
The all time champion of this is CYBER DRAGON. It stayed at 3 until 5Ds because Cyber End Dragon was shoved down our throats as a cool anime card. It was 10 times better than any other card. More attack than any level 4, special summoning condition, valid target for Limiter Removal, no restrictions for using it as tribute fodder. During that era, everybody would always blind second if possible, and whoever went first would often pass without summoning to avoid eating a CyDra on the crackbak (or in any other game state where neither player had monsters out).
IDK why nobody mentioned it but the fact that Giant Trunade was not only legal until 2011, but it was actually completely Unlimited all the way until late 2006 is so mind boggling to me. Knowing the fact that there was a point in the game where MST was limited but Trunade was allowed at 3 copies almost gave me a stroke.
In old yugioh it wasn’t winning you the game. That reversal quiz ftk that people play in goat was not popular. Giant trunade wasn’t dealing with the problems the way destruction was, so no one played it.
The way I understand it is Cannon soldier is used to find infinite resource loops...... Which would be ok if they would stop making cards that could infinity loop.
I remember when a friend of mine freaked out when Cannon Soldier was announced to be in the Rush Duel format, claiming the infinite Normal Summons would break it sideways. He quickly calmed down when I reminded him that Rush Duel format is also one where all effects are Hard OPTs.
i know its late but i think we can mention Elder Entity Norden as something pretty similar to Brilliant fusion? 1 card in instant fussion to reborn a lvl4 or lower with a lvl4 body itself, enabling easy acces to a rank4 for most decks if not everyone.. or just revive a tuner and do some synchro plays.. in the end it got Emergency banned because zoodiac abused it.. but we can give credit for actualy summoning norden properly..
Im surprised no single mention of dante of knightmares. It was practically a meme that dante forever dodged the banlist, and it took way too long to take goblin and mermaid out of the picture despite how fucking crazy they were
Oh and verte, verte, despite being a very recent example. Was a problem ever since DRAGOON came out, and low key before it came out with rainbow neos and neos fusion
Also also halq, people have been clamoring for its death since it got revealed in the ocg. People were literally saying they hope its emergency banned the moment it comes to the tcg. Grass was also incredibly contentious. Despite never being format warping, gem knights. People hated gem knight ftk with a passion and it was low key always at least alittle good. Also striker, people hated that deck and it lives to this very day due to the engage unban
Hot take: Maxx "C" during quite a few formats was not an unpleasant card. During H.A.T it was actually fine due to the nature of some decks special summoning a little, some a lot, and some a medium amount. It was a good side deck card and I played yu-gi-oh very regularly around that time, so I remember it not being oppressive. Nowadays (aka, Master Duel) it feels worse because of the nature of the game to fap out 50 summons a turn, and this specifically punishes it.
It definitely feels less bad when, after being Maxx "C"'d, you can then set a monster and a backrow or two and likely won't outright die on the next turn. Because modern deckbuilding philosophies call for ride-or-die starter monsters and little to no backrow in favor of outrageous combos, giving your opponent a free turn is now a death sentence, when that wasn't necessarily always the case.
@@sallas09 Other way around. It’s the fact that giving your opponent a free turn is a death sentence that leads to people building decks around extended combos, and the unreliability of backrow going second that leads to people forgoing it.
Maxx "C" in HAT could've been a little punishing. Like taking the maxx c challenge and having your opponent draw his remaining hands thus stopping the little hand loop.
When I started playing Master dual I was so excited to play with Maxx "c" for the first time. Now I'm just a empty shell filled with pain. **could it please get banned**

it's way too broken now, but basically saw no play until it got banned when it got used in that Psy omega handloop deck, and even then there were better decks
Konami taking their time to ban cards like EVA. Verte and Auroradon was just so confusing Verte and Auroradon espessically like i understand that Red eyes dragoon and DPE is easily cheat out making 'rogue' decks better but they can just play it in the decks that beat yours already
Verte falls into a category I like to call "Future Creative Limiters", where it's effect is so potent you can't have creative freedom in making future cards without them being unintentionally broken. This exact reasoning is why Tellarknight Ptolemaeus was banned, because if it were still around, every non-Number Rank 5 would have to be created in a way where it can't be abused by the wrong cards.
@@mystikx2205 honestly with power creep being so prevelant and yugioh having such a large card base its less of future creative limiters its more new cards that create OP situations or older cards being viable from the new cards, e.g. hand of the smoke grenade doing nothing until infernobles and Verte doing 'basically' nothing until more "shaddoll" fusion cards being released
This is going to be hot take but unironically upstart could go to 3 and it wouldn't see play. In older format if I had a choice between playing more or less card I'd much rather play less and have a more consistent deck but with how powerful and consistent decks are, how almost any card that's not a hard trap could easily make a come back, and how alot deck feel like they're designed with a really easier way to get 8000 damage on board upstart feels bad.
I remember pulling mystic mine upon release, reading it and imidiatly selling it at locals. I looked at him in discust turing the transaction. Told him he isnt cool
5:54 100% agree. It's a fun card to see pop off occasionally for lulz (a la Cylinder), but is poison in Master Duel. If 95% of MD duelists' decks are using it at 3x, can we agree it's a little OP?
I remember coming back to YuGiOh after I stopped playing at the end of the XYZ era, and I was so sad that Level Eater had been banned Just because I loved using it in my Synchron deck
They never banned A Assault Core. It was limited for a little while because of Firewall but never banned. And also of course ABC Dragon Buster went to 1 for the MR4 Revisions.
I miss the format where most people were playing partial banned dragon rulers but I was playing Synchron gy. Tuning, grab quickdraw, mill one, level eat quickdraw, summon Electromagnetic Turtle, synchro into Chevalier de Fleur. Also I ran Gold Sarc Necroface for some reason?
The fact they would rather print cards that are more broken. THEN THE PROBLEM is what has lead to this MT of game is over in 2 turns. To the point that if 2 people are playing anything that has come out in the last 2 years. Just what the 6 cards on the top will decide the game well over 50% of the time.
Shees boi, you clearly didnt play during frog ftk format, or cyberstein otk or magical scientist ftk or infernity format or .... did you even play this game before this year?
I take issue with Level Eater's inclusion. I'm not saying it could come off the list necessarily, but over the span of Level Eater's legality, it was only ever an issue when Omega Handloop w/ Gofu arose as a strategy in 2016 and even then, it was hardly the best deck at the time and Omega went to 1 shortly after anyway. Putting it in the same category as actual format-warping cards like Emptiness, Mine, and Soul Charge that outstayed their welcome seems like a gross overstatement of Level Eater's power level.
The fact that there are any legal non OPT burn damage cards is baffling to me. Something about the designers that has always bothered me is with all the summoning mechanics, it makes it look like there’s way more going on than there is (and yeah there can be a lot going on) but when it basically comes down to “what does this card do?” It’s just about reading it, figure out summoning it later. I’m not even talking about the Extra Deck here, if we go way back to Yugi-Kaiba format monsters, spells and traps could have effects. Jump forward a couple of years and the game largely revolves around these effect monsters and the effects become more powerful. Many more years pass and even though you’ve now essentially created a game where most monsters also have spell effects… they create monsters that are sometimes treated as spells and sometimes as effect monsters (I’m not opening that can of worms), then there are trap monsters which I still haven’t figured out what they’re actually treated as. Monsters can be equip spells and continuous spells, banishment is an accessible resource. I LOVE yu gi oh but these are the things that keep me awake at night.
Grinder Golem was released back in the GX era. At the time there wasn't much you could do with it besides gimmick strategies involving inferno tempest.
I think it was mentioned, but MBT just didn't include it in the video. You can see something about Sky Strikers below the post about Treacherous Trap Hole
Idea for a card to replace Level Eater. Link eater would be a level 1 that requires you to reduce the Link rating of a Link monster by 1 to special summon it from the grave and can only be special summoned by its own effect. This should keep you from exploiting it to link climb. But i dont mess with links too much, so I might have missed a combo that can exploit it
As a player that has been playing the Prime of TeleDaD , Lightsworn and Glads i disagree , the problemcards in that format were Disc commander and Armageddonknight aswell as E Telly not DaD himself
DAD was incredibly strong, don't get me wrong, but the issues with it were that they were unsearchable outside of Gold Sarc, and thus had to be hard-drawn(which too be fair isn't that difficult considering how much draw power both DAD Return and Tele-DAD had), and they were complete bricks until their very specific summoning condition was met. DAD wasn't necessarily always the wincon in his decks; it was usually Return/Dimension Fusion or sheer Synchro spamming. DAD was just a bomb you could drop when all the stars lined up just right. The limits and bans to the mass-banish summoning cards, E-Tele, and the Dark/D-Hero engine did way more to stop the deck than limiting DAD did.
I got one. Prank Kids Meow-Meow Mu Ok, from day 1 Pranks were playable but not good, they needed a starter, Meow turned every single prank into a starter. Without disruption you were going through the line and ending on a double board nuke off one normal summon never mind whatever else you could extend into. The adventure engine just broke it even harder. It was at 3 until October 2021, and then at 1 until literally May this year. Turning any monster in the deck, all of whom float into each other into a full combo by itself is bad enough but that graveyard effect letting you butler twice in the same *Chain* never mind the same turn was icing on the cake. should not have taken 2 years to be banned.

Konami likes keeping floodgates that don’t shit off the very cards that out them or prevent from completely playing for as long as possible.
Would like to add Magical Scientist to the pile, I didn't even play then but that was a relatively consistent ftk for the time that lived for like a year
Imagine how much chaos it could cause in the modern format...
@@zdelrod829 I would actually like to see it done for just a single middling tournament or something. A lot of the decks that would want 7 extra free summons are also pretty tight in extra deck space. It would be interesting to see.
I think the main reason it would need an errata is because it is *too* versatile, and can be used almost infinitely with some hilarious loops, like the infamous DuelingBook Mooyan Curry liop.

To this day I wonder if the reason Firewall Dragon took so long to be banned was purely because it was an anime protagonist ace monster.
That's usually the argument. The counter-argument is that Firewall only appeared in 16 episodes, compared to Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, who appeared in just about every episode.
A similar argument was also given to Ancient Fairy Dragon.
They should have pushed Decode Talker more tbh
That’s legit the reason. Banning a card that appears prominantly in your opening while the series is still going is a no.
There is a reason they never banned Black Rose Dragon…
Konami of Japan wouldn't let it happen because of that reason.
Oddly enough, upstart could probably go to three and see no play whatsoever. Most decks right now are struggling to get DOWN to 40 cards, because there's just so many good cards + engines that they're trying to cram into their deck. It'd only really see play in like Striker and Runick
might not be good fight now but can very easily be a 3 of in future decks. you just don't want too many generic consistency tools around
MBT kinda touches on it but upstart gets pushed out of the meta when you need to see handtraps turn 0 because you don't actually play a 37 card deck and that upstart is dead in your hand until your turn.
Yet ocg can get 3 of this and chicken game and see like no play at all.

Metamorphosis is one I throw in as well. Konami was aware of the problem it presented considering they added card text to prevent cheating out fusoons via metamorphosis onto the fusion monsters they were making I.e. first wave Elemental Heroes, yet they they thought that was the better idea than banning the card
even as a burning abyss player from its beginning to its bitter end the fact that dante was at 3 literally the whole time was astonishing to me.

Had its own tier 0 format for half a year (people called the decks adamancipators and Synchron Eldlitch but they were both just Halq turbo)
It has never not been great, and the half year where tier 1 decks didn’t run it, it was probably still the best thing in the game
Has been in literally anything to enable any type of strategy. From hand looping, FTK, domain locks, turn skips and unbreakable boards.
Enabled half of the cards in this video
It’s not a coincidence that the world had to go into lockdown, when that thing was released.

"Drawing the out" argument became valid with Maxx C since you would draw the out for current opponent's turn or your next turn anyway

You mortals know not the meaning of eternity, but I shall teach you." and left both untouched.
we are no longer caught in the Mystic Mine
TOSS format comes to mind. People were wanting an Engage ban and Colossus limit in particular for ages while Konami seemed dead set on hitting Salad and keeping Orcust from getting splashed with Mermaid. Azathot was also a problem that was legal for way too long. Got the PK RUM banned and was then still played in Lunalight because insulating entirely against hand traps is good enough on its own
Well, tbf TOSS all in all was a really good format. It was around for too long, I agree, but I also understand that Konami didn't want to end a format that was diverse, pretty balanced and allowed some kind of budget access to it
@@philippmeier3363 Yea. Seriously, I fucking miss this format
My theory is that cannon soldier is less of a real card and more the canary in the mine; anything that FTK's with cannon soldier is certainly still extremely abusive without it, but it might take longer to figure out than if an FTK deck enters the meta.
The OCG has all 3 versions of it banned and the format is still shit.
The thing with Mystic Mine is that even beyond just the floodgate power, it's not fun. Like, I don't have fun sitting around for 12 turns, desperately hoping to draw my out while my opponent slowly drains me to death.
And by the time you draw your out they draw the out to your out.
Yeah I'd rather lose in 1 turn because I didn't draw DRNM/Forbidden Droplet or enough 1 card starters to play past 3-5 negates.

Those decks weren’t played at the time. The card saw zero play in anything until buijins. It’s still legal in the ocg at 3 and no one plays it.

Kozmo
Halq and Auroradon in Master Duel. Those two have overstayed their place there for *far* too long.
Dragoon is not a towers
Dragoon never really saw competitve play in the tcg, there was some experimentation when he came out but that's about it
Dragoon never saw play in the TCG. It’s why people started saying Verye was not a problem. Because the reason people said it needed to be banned was not seeing any play. It was only when DPE came out it became an issue.
Dragoon was never an issue. People just don’t like having to build their deck to factor in their opponant.
I remember getting called a scrub for saying Heavy Storm was overpowered. Was glad to finally see it go.
You were.
XD

Level Eater and Linkuriboh were legal together for two whole months. Let that sink in.

It is astonishing that DAD stayed unbanned during the teleDAD format
@@sallas09 i +1 that
I got one. Prank Kids Meow-Meow Mu
Ok, from day 1 Pranks were playable but not good, they needed a starter, Meow turned every single prank into a starter. Without disruption you were going through the line and ending on a double board nuke off one normal summon never mind whatever else you could extend into. The adventure engine just broke it even harder. It was at 3 until October 2021, and then at 1 until literally May this year.
Turning any monster in the deck, all of whom float into each other into a full combo by itself is bad enough but that graveyard effect letting you butler twice in the same *Chain* never mind the same turn was icing on the cake. should not have taken 2 years to be banned.
halq, caused a bunch of tuners to be banned. Its guilty of auroradon, scythe, accesscode bs and thats just scratching the surface. Verte anaconda is less egregious and is now banned but was also legal for too long and made fusions insane for no reason
Royal magical library and cannon solider… they both have only ever been used in ftks
I'm shocked that no one has mentioned VFD
I can't believe anyone would upload a video with a Raid ad playing the entire time.
I don't understand people that want ash banned do they all play ftk's or something and just want all hand traps gone?
They play some kind of deck that loses to one interruption, like Fur hire or Madolche
