For the HERO archetype: Elemental HERO Divine Neos
It takes "5" materials to summon: needs to have at least 1 Neos, Neo-Spacian, HERO, and/or Neo Space monster(s) in order to summon. Effect, banish 1 Neos, Neo-Spacian, HERO, and/or Neo Space monster in GY; this card gains 500 ATK until the end of the turn and the banished monster's effect. So surprised no one brought up Ultimate Flagship Ursatron. It’s a fusion monster that branches archetypes between the synchro archetype Ursarctics and the ritual archetype Drytron. The only thing these archetypes have in common is that they tribute monsters from the hand to active their effects. What does Ultimate Flagship Ursatron do? Searches drytron or ursarctic monsters if an effect monster is special summoned, and it can grab a banished monster and add it to hand. If this was a continuous spell, it might be worth playing, but as it stands it’s just a clunky monster that you don’t play in either ursarctics or drytron, truly the epitome of modern pointless boss monsters.

I think the actual reason was because Cyber dragons were in a Duelist pack, and they felt obligated to include a new boss monster. But Duelist packs exist to support the cards and playstyles the duelist used; and Zane's boss is unquestionable Cyber End Dragon, which they don't want to usurp but it was a bit to hard to build on. Solution: make a fusion that is literally it's exact opposite and hope that helps.

If I may share a conspiracy theory: I actually think they made that. But Konami designers have to think about things the RUclips Comment section rarely does; like "does this actually support anything or sell any reprints", or "is there room to build on this in the future" and of course "would this be more worthwhile as a new deck". So they present is to their bosses as "Hey, I've got this new deck idea about Xyz monsters that combine into a bigger Xyz monster. I originally made them as retrains of Gate Guardian & co. but realized they didn't really serve a purpose that way; so I was thinking we could instead make it a Super Sentai Megazord."

@@jerryjezzaberry5009 True, but there's a catch with anime nostalgia; people want not just to play nostalgia decks, but nostalgia cards. Heck; to Konami, anime decks usually are their anime cards, especially if it's a deck or themed named after the card.
All that to say; I think it's a bit unthinkable to Konami to support Gate Guardian with the retrain route because people want to play the legendary Gate Guardian. I mean I'd prefer that. With Great Magnus already proving the gameplay experience, all any Gate Guardian support could offer is letting me play Gate Guardian.
But the full retrain route is always the easiest way to feel like you're supporting anything (that's why it tends to appeal to guys on the internet like us when we wonder what support something should get); so anything better requires a bit more creativity, and so I imagine it gets put on the backburner as they work on easier to support stuff.
PaniK, if he ever got support, would probably be treated at least a little similarly, though I'd compare it more to Ishizu in that they'd pick something he played and say "okay, you've got to play this. We'll replace everything else with new effects to replicate the strategy, but this one thing you've still got to play because it'll be named in all the effects. It's the one nostalgia card you're playing and the one reprint we're selling." With PaniK playing nothing good like Ishizu's Exchange of Spirit, it'll probably be the at least semi-iconic Castle of Dark Illusions.
And Ghost Kaiba I don't think would ever get his own deck because there's nothing to his existing deck but stolen Normals, and they can't just make a new deck from scratch and say it's Ghost Kaiba's deck despite playing 0 of his cards. Best you could hope for there is a Phatom Blue-Eyes introduced as new Blue-Eyes support as a nod to the guy.

As a Melffy player Mommy is unplayably bad. Imagine wasting 2 materials on a 1000 atk vanilla that if you manage to stack 5 materials total on it becomes... a worse Yubel. With no effect protection. When you could have just made Utopic Draco Future or Zeus using your other Melffy Xyz instead.

And yes, Beetrooper can not only easily pull that off, but the whole engine can loop itself to be usable forever. It was the best option to copy, but it doesn't mean those monsters weren't gonna be stupid eventually in their own right.
If anything, effect copying should come with some notable downsides, such as preventing damage for the turn or locking other aspects like special summoning, but in most cases, there were none (in starving venom's case, it actually gave the benefit of full piercing for all your monsters), and that was just ridiculous for the ability to copy potentially limited or powerful effects where the downside was the original monster they were attached too or a OPT condition.

Orcustrion was actually really good when it was released. The ATK/DEF drop and negation is permanent, and it affects all of your opponent's linked monsters, not just ones Orcustrion points to. You also have to remember this card came out more than a year and a half before AccessCode Talker did. It was a really good card that stole games.
I played it as a one of in addition to Topologic Bomber Dragon.
As for Shadow of the Six Sam, They still played that damn thing. it put counters on gateway and It turned Kageki into a 3500 beatstick for OTKs.
With Dark Flattop, that's sort of not accurate. In Yugioh, when a card effect doesn't align with game mechanics, you follow what the card effect says. So in theory, that was what Konami was going for with Dark Flattop. I honestly am unsure why Konami officially decided to rule that you couldn't summon a Skyfire that wasn't summoned properly first with Dark Flattop.

Dogmatika rituals: taking 1-2 cards from your opponent's ED is only useful in a scrnario in which the entire deck revolves around resolving that single monster and don't provide much protection
    Darkfluid Dragon:Just use Accesscode

True about the six sam xyz but in all fairness you can make the six sam link and six sam kageki pretty big thanks to him. But yeah we usally summon him for gate counters xD

Orcustrion isnt actually that bad, there are just better options. In 2019 pend with mermaid, you played orcustrion because it was pretty much necessary in breaking a thunder dragon board by negating everything. After aswell you could just slap on ding

Whenever I think of a good card that doesn't synergize with the archetype it belongs to (and technically doesn't even belong to it) I think of Vennominon and Vennominaga, who aren't even Venom monsters and are just so absurdly good compared to any monster of their (true) archetype. Yeah they work with reptiles but at that point you could throw them in an Alien or Worm deck and they'd honestly be better off.

Quick mention to Frightfur Chimera and Dangerous Frightfur Nightmary:
Chimera is a Goyo Guardian and Armades put in one card and yet this doesn´t see play because you rather destroy everything with Tiger/Whale and go for game with Wolf.
Nightmary its even worse, she has a base atk of 2000 and gains 300 atk for every fairy and fiend in your gy but only during YOUR turn, then if it destroys a monster by battle you can send frightfur, fluffal and/or edge imp monsters from your deck to gy equal to the LEVEL of said monster, so no pluses if it destroys an XYZ or a Link monster, and finally she has a negate wich only protects herself from target and you have to BANISH a frightfur from the extradeck as cost, doesn´t even destroy the card it negates.

Honestly the Six Sam Xyz could be a vanilla and it would still be playable because its a name that generates Bushido Counters on summon.

My go-to example for this is Time Lords, because they have 2 bosses that suck; Sephylon, who can only be summoned if there are 10 fairies in grave, is almost always dead because every other timelord shuffles themselves back into deck during the end phase, and vorpgate, a level 10 synchro in an archetype of level 10 monsters with no tuner

Ironically, Vorpgate may be a Timelord, but was not used by anyone that played Timelords because it was an ARC V manga card

Technically, the Earthbound Immortal Boss Monster is Earthbound Immortal Wiraqocha Rasca, a 100/100 with the same effects as the others, and it’s own effects witch read:
If this card is Normal Summoned: Target 1 to 3 cards you control, but not more than your opponent has in their hand; shuffle them into the Deck, then discard the same number of random cards from your opponent's hand (or as many as possible), and if you do, this card gains 1000 ATK for each card discarded by this effect.
Witch is ok, and could leave it with the most attack out of all the earthbound immortals, but this is in exchange for opponent Spell/Trap immunity, the ability to drop the opponent’s LP to 1 in exchange for the battle phase and most importantly, 99 Attack and Defence.

Shouts out to those people who got to use Orcustrion during the N/R festival. Its pretty good when you ban every other link 4 monster with spot removal and very bad otherwise. Try it on your next N/R festival play through if the event comes around again for that once in a lifetime opportunity lol.

My input on this is Daigusto Eguls. A level 7 synchro monster, exclusive to an archetype that really only goes into level 6 and lower synchros, that on YOUR end phase lets you banish a wind monster from your graveyard to banish one face down card your opponent controls... that effect is ABYSMAL on any archetype but add on to the fact that Gustos thrive on being low attack using the effect of Diagusto Sphreez and this thing has 2600 attack. Which isnt even good enough to be a beater but also doesnt work with the effect of Spreez all too well.
To a lesser extent Daigusto Phoenix and Daigusto Emeral are bad GUSTO cards but not bad cards (well at least Emeral isnt bad).
Daigusto Phoenix requires 2 level two monsters, Gusto level 2 monsters include: a flip monster, a "when" condition monster that notoriously misses timing in any normal gusto combo, a good card to keep in your hand to discard for a better gusto effect, a monster that summons "a level 5 or higher gusto monster when destroyed" which includes two bad monsters people wouldnt use in a gusto deck, and Windas much much weaker original form. And Phoenix doesnt even have an overly strong effect for gustos specifically.
Emeral is an absolute beast of a card in and deck other than gusto, gusto does good at getting out level 3 cards, not level 4 and the only good level 4 gustos have? IS ALREADY A BETTER ARCHYTYPE LOCKED EMERAL! WITHOUT THE NEED TO PULL OUT ANOTHER LEVEL 4 TO XYZ.
At least Sphreez and laplampillica are good...

  • @Zetact_

Scrap Dragon, generic, level 8. Pop one on your field, one on your opponent's field.
Scrap Twin Dragon, requires a Scrap Tuner, level 9. Pop one on your field, bounce two on opponent's field.
Atomic Scrap Dragon, requires a Scrap Tuner and two non-tuners, level 1. Pop one on your field, return three opponent's card to deck... From their GY.
The most clear-cut recent example IMO would be S-Force Justify. What does S-Force want to do? Fill all your columns so they can add together a variety of [bad] stun effects. What does Justify do? Require you to EMPTY two of your columns of S-Force monsters so that you can get one monster negate and POTENTIALLY banish up to three monsters when Justify attacks (note: Lapcewell can destroy all opponent's monsters in S-Force columns). Justify probably wouldn't be that bad if S-Force swarmed better, or if he came with his own useful stun effect, but he's a glorified Imperm at the best of times. Damn shame, because I quite like S-Force but they're just not good.
