I wouldnt say Guru saved the archetype, more like it completely hijacked it and made the whole thing it’s own deck with the couple other Subterror cards that see play alongside it being just Guru’s sidekicks. Absolutely insane how one single card was so much better than the rest of it’s archetype to such an extent.

Traptrix Sera is probably the single most powerful card ever printed for an old archetype that only saw very mild success afterward, if we're being generous, and iirc that was only when it was mixed with Amazements.
That's what happens when you're a trap deck that doesn't rely on floodgates I guess.

While D/D aren't terrible, I really liked how Gilgamesh turned the pure build into the most competitive one instead of the wombo combo synchro build, making the players use the deck exactly as Konami intended.
I would argue it would be a banworthy card if the didn't held up and made him float just like Denglong and Ib (the lvl 5 synchro tuners that are imo the best extenders of all time)

Gryphon is probably one of the most busted cards D/D/D could have received. Inherent special so if you Swirl Slime out a monster, you still have your normal, allowing you to go into Gilgamesh, or use it with Swirl Slime/Foolish eff/ under Wave King to revive from the grave (and probably go +1 on linking off the Wave King) and revive it to get a second Gate search basically, then pend summon it to discard a D/D name (and you draw a card, but lets be real, the discard is the better part).

If she couldn’t make Noble Knight meta relevant, nothing can.

@@frankwest5388 That's because you don't play HEROs, specifically Destiny HERO.
DPE is the best boss they could get because it uses Mali + -4thMali- Denier, then the revival effect combos incredibly well with D Tactics. There are cases you won't even revive DPE himself and prefer others like Denier but still not give up on him because crusader can revive.
It even takes Fusion Destiny's drawback in mind so that you don't lose your boss monster.
On the other hand, sunrise is a great extender + otk enabler but as said above, his full potential will only be utilized when Wake comes (hopefully in December's battles of legend)

While not mentioned directly, Jord can also be thrown in with Blackeyes for Plunder Patroll. Jord is just an absolutely insane card for the deck, and if we ever get Vind (that's the Norwegian word for wind, btw. All the ships are just the Norwegian word of their respective attribute) that may be the second pendulum monster to complete Jord's scale, the deck could get yet another insane support card and may finally push the deck into relevancy.
As a side note, Rainbow Bridge of the Heart. God damn, does that spell do so much for Crystal Beasts. The fact that opening RBotH and Crystal Bond can end a board with Apollousa, Dweller, Masquerena, and Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive...yes, it may not be meta relevant, but that still shows just how much Rainbow Bridge of the Heart brings to Crystal Beasts if it can make them finally produce end boards of actual decent quality.

Torn scaes I'd argue even more so, as its a play extender/ enabler. With a foolish and handfix, and bringing itself back for extra deck or link plays. Literally the bread and butter of pk. How tf did we play without this card lmao

In the same vein as Catalyst Field, Burst of Destiny had a random gemini support monster in it that is absolutely insane for Chemicritters. Golknight single-handedly shored up the decks biggest flaw being inconsistent openers by allowing you to search ANY spell/trap that lists Gemini in it’s text on summon meaning your entire backrow line-up was now readily available including Gemini Abalation, which summons any gemini from deck with it’s effects turned on (including Golknight), and Dimer Synthesis, which translates to, just get anything out of your deck, spell, trap, monster, doesn’t matter just grab it.

A note on the Subterror segment, as someone actively playing the deck as it released:
-Wave 1 - the best Behemoth in Umastryx was released, Field Spell’s fantastic, Warrior is interesting, he got a lot better the more support released but already combos well as Discard for Stalagmo (who’s… fine, the draw’s just clunky to set up). Had no good starters, however, with the exception of Instant Fusion into Invoked Raidjin (and some people argued Tarotrei but I never tried it, seemed even more bricky than the deck already is)
Wave 2 - Burrowing is good protection but a bitch to set up, Ultramafus is more of a panic button that, while winning me a duel, is just awkward to use outside of that, Stygokraken is your removal and VERY awkward to play around since his destruction is EQUAL, not UP TO… and Archer… exists, she had a high price tag on release and for quite a long time after… honestly, I never tried her, the effect is good but lives and dies with Ultramafus
Wave 3 - So terrible. Defender is among the single worst cards for an archetype I’ve seen that still ‘fits’ the playstyle, Volterech I never bothered since it’s just big Archer (not even gonna bother to spell it right), Dragossuary is… baffling, he’s Burrowing on a body, and while it’s a free activation (we’ll get to how) he’ll die for such a sacrifice. At least Cave Clash is pretty good, make your big beaters bigger and gets you recursion, I like it!… and still only ever ran it as a 1-of (but it DOES stack so I would recommend two)
Wave 4 - Deck is playable. You live and die off of Fiendess to start (especially good use of One for One) and Final Battle to keep the resources, but the deck’s playable. Phosphero foolishes ANYTHING meaning you can dump Bulb and do silly Synchro plays (it + Warrior for Nat Beast, with Stygokraken makes Barkion or a generic utility 6 like Vulcan or Red Wyvern, with Umastryx you get Scarlight, and while flipped face-down the behemoths dodge his field nuke, god I miss Bulb). Speleogeist I’ve only picked up recently on Master Duel but I’m digging his utility
-Took 4 waves to be playable, and Guru… is questionable. Great searcher, phenomenal setup, Fiendess is still a better starter for my Behemoth spam, but… Guru was so good he spawned his own variant of Floodgate spam with no real focus on the archetype. Yeah, he makes the Pure better, but honestly the deck really just needs more starters and ways to bring the behemoths out so that when your Fiendess gets negated you’re not sitting with a bricked hand (Guru needs another target to Book of Moon, too, so he’s kinda awkward as a starter to boot) as well as more ways to proc flip effects faster (Hidden City isn’t Guru searchable, Final Battle needs prep and only targets 1 at a time, I run fucking Ghostrick Scare for this despite it being a major brick when behind and only as much utility as the flip monsters you have on board, solely because it can let you flip as many as you need), and better graveyard recursion beyond Fiendess carrying the whole damn archetype. They have so many ways to Foolish cards but so few Revival cards? The deck works and the great theme’s there, but there’s still so much here that they could really use to not just be dead off of 1 interruption, the Behemoths are designed as massive calamities yet so easily avoided or just outright prevented…

Cross Keeper made the Neos decks from "you can play it but don't expect winning" to "You play you card right and you opponent can do NOTHING to win the next turn". Seriously there is planty that the new Neos support did for that old then playable but not winning deck, but as of what we have right now on the TCG i would say Cross Keeper does the most part of the job from drawing to setting up the graveyard to summoning Spirit of Neos to get Favorite Contact, and even setting up a few of the cards you are needing to be able to summon and block your opponent with an unbounceable Cosmo Neos who for that turn just say "Nope" to your opponent.
Now yes, negations are something you have to work through, but really even if you negate Cross Keeper drawing, you have the graveyard set up, and if you didn't negate the drawing to negate the summon of spirit of Neos, you still have 2 more cards that probably will help you to get to favorite contact, because you have multiple way to get Neos to the graveyard or hand.
