Albums don’t have to be linear stories. She’s talking about different partners throughout the record but what unites it all is the theme of radical optimism-from having to face your fears that the relationship isn’t working, to thanking a current partner’s ex, to finding someone new at a club, to realizing you’re losing control, to hoping someone understands why you’ve ghosted, to knowing you’re happy for an ex finding a partner. In every song she acknowledges the somber or scary thoughts while still looking forward and making the best of a situation for herself. I like the framing of the project a lot!

for me this album was the perfect of a linear story she first talks about meeting a new partner with end of an era and setting boundaries with houdini and training season then considers breaking up with these walls and watcha doing and breaks up with french exit and meets someone new in illusion and falling forever and anything for love shows how deeply in love they are in and then dua lipa talks about maria and happy for you shows how she has become the maria but she is still happy
This is also the same person to have Don’t Start Now, Physical, Cool, Levitating, Hallucinate, Break My Heart, Pretty Please, and Love Again on one album. Dua Lipa is just that girl haha
This album feels so short and sweet!!! I love this album and I was actually shocked that it was received negatively, feels like this album is her “solar power” album like it’s misunderstood by the general public but there are so many hits in this album!!! As I listened to it I kept the imagery in my head of the two colors in this era: red and blue! And this album starts red and transitions into blue which makes the whole listening journey even better from start to finish I also think that a lot of the negative comments about this album are based on the marketing for it, it felt somewhat messy and not linear so it really felt misleading from the release of the first singles before the album announcement, she shifted management afaik compared to future nostalgia but nonetheless this album slaps, hopefully she releases a deluxe of it soon 🤞🏼
Happy For You is such a good closer. I get teary eyed every time I listen to it. To have a love so special with someone that even though it didn't work out between the two of you, youre just happy to see them thriving and doing well. If I ever get in a relationship and it doesn't work out, I'd want to experience that feeling of seeing them just doing good in life. ❤️

She made a great summer album but I still have disappointment in her when she kept teasing this as some huge passion project. Her vocals are amazing but I still feel the album is very one note. The singles were super strong too so that also made it hard to see this as a “new sound” album. It makes me wonder what songs were cut since she wrote so many. Plus “radical optimism” doesn’t really match the songs thematically imo Like I thought it would be more personal in terms of not just being all love songs.
Harry Styles and Dua Lipa have in my eyes officially brought disco and funk back like fully into modern music. We are here for it and I want it. Feed it too me.

Happy For You is a real adult feeling pop song. I don't see it as anyway sad. Maybe a hint bittersweet, but in a really good way. You realise you actually care for that person, when you see them happy, doesn't make you bitter, but actually happy.

French Exit was a grower on me but now it's one of my favorite songs. The album gets better with time, the more you sit with it the better it sounds.
