n July 21, 2020, a routine traffic stop by the Ogden Police Department in Utah took a tragic turn. The driver, James Franklin, was initially pulled over for a seat belt violation near 26th Street and Monroe Blvd. Subsequent checks revealed discrepancies in the vehicle's registration, prompting the officer to plan a citation, release of the driver, and impoundment of the vehicle.
However, Franklin resisted compliance, choosing to drive off and dragging the officer for a distance before the car slipped, causing the officer to be ejected. Fortunately, the officer sustained only minor injuries, ending up in a grass strip with scrapes and abrasions.
Undeterred, Franklin continued to evade authorities and ultimately collided head-on with another police vehicle involved in a separate traffic stop. Regrettably, James Franklin succumbed to the crash at the scene. While three officers sustained injuries, they were fortunately non-serious and led to their subsequent release from the hospital.
This incident underscores the critical need for cooperation during traffic stops to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Investigations into the matter, including a review of body camera footage, are expected to determine adherence to proper procedures and shed light on the events that culminated in this tragic outcome. The incident highlights the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers during routine stops and emphasizes the continual importance of training and awareness initiatives to mitigate potential dangers.

@tar kan well let's start with the cop who was in the car and then forcing it to pull over not only was not close to the actual accident but the guy drove away another couple blocks and then hit the two vehicles and died. From where the car was initially pulled over and then the first cop was knocked out of the car was about 3 blocks and then the wreck was an additional 4 blocks down a road with a blind downhill turn left with a couple other intersections and all are low visibility because where he ended up is a small valley between hills that use to be a water run off park. You can Google maps the area and see exactly where this all took place. And now to your argument the kid who drove off was an idiot and was scared so he panicked and reacted badly and paid the ultimate price with his poor choices. He lied about the dmv and he lied about getting pulled over in salt lake because in salt lake they also would have impounded his car without any other reason needed. Cops have things called a laptop in their cars and they can run plates and check registration and what tags belong to what vehicle and they asked the kid to see if he'd lie or tell the truth and he lied. Thems the FACTS!!!
@tar kan well first off you can't accuse people of being stupid if you can't spell words correctly second you stated that the cops didn't show the video of themselves driving....well duh cuz they probably don't have them on because it was a simple seat belt initial stop and those cops probably didn't feel they were going to have issues with a stopped car but needed to film the actual interaction with the kid in the car for context. You're placing blame on what was a simple traffic stop not after the fact of felony fleeing with an officer. And maybe you don't know this cuz you're a fucking moron but you can type and edit one post and not macro post over and over and over trying to insult people cuz you think you are right. The kid drove off erratically and hit someone down the road about a mile away, it wasn't a long chase and another thing the cop that's in the car chasing wasn't the first car on scene so that may have been another reason if no camera or there was a camera that he didn't turn it on. Looking at the aftermath and knowing the area knowing the size of the car and speed at which he was driving none of that changes the kid fucked up and panicked and took off crashed and died in what was less than 5 minutes Crocodile dundee

The right to travel is a part of the 'liberty' of which the citizen cannot be deprived without due process of law under the Fifth Amendment.
"Infringement" is a powerful word, look it up. While I don't condone this young man's actions, we all know modern day laws are designed to do nothing more than extort money from people. Fuck the DMV. Fuck any officer that wilfully chooses to ignore the oath to uphold and defend the constitution and provincial laws. Officers have discretion, he could have simply said "it sucks having to get a new car registered, here's a ticket, if you get the issues corrected before the court date, you can get them to dismiss the charges." Instead he chose to escalate the situation because impounding the car and forcing the owner to buy his own property back is the answer in the modern fourth reich corporate oligarchy we've become. I would've aimed for the nearest tree. My grandpa fought actual Nazis in WW2, I'll be damned if I'm gonna take orders from the 21st century equivalent.

I think that they should do what I’ve seen another officer do in this situation - they tasered the fucker first to make them inoperable before pulling them out of the car. This is way too much of a risk on the officer to not have disabled the person first to prevent them from being able to drive off.

That is what is supposed to happen. You weren’t stopped because you were a threat to the public. Just endangering your own life. Police are protecting the public, including those who don’t protect themselves with something as simple as a seatbelt. The only time you might get more than a warning is after being stopped multiple times for it. Like you said, respect, or just common courtesy, goes along way.

He could have easily gotten into acting or modeling with those looks. Did you think the cop was reaching in to jerk him off?. Police report says they had to work around the seat belt to pull his lifeless body out of the vehicle

So I feel for those who love him and tried to get him to turn his life around in a positive direction. That being said, he was on a collision course that could have cost many lives. A tyrant in Illinois gave me a speed ticket worth $400 because i had no licence or anything and i had just bought the car, i also used the tags of another car. I was placed in handcuffs. Signed a bond and got out of the police car all in the same location. Didn't get impounded. Went to court beat the no license because i went to get it later, but still had to pay that expensive $400 ticket i was supposedly going 14 over, 49 in a 35 but lies the sign when i was flased said 45 a block later it said 35 but i was already slowing down because the cop did a uturn and followed me. 400 dollars and humiliated for nothing i did wrong. (Except for driving withoutanything). But i shouldn't of been stopped anyways. Dum women cop was in a unmarked car going the opportunity direction. Yea from where she was coming it was 35 but on my side ny sign said 45! Anyway I'm alive thank goodness
