- Another eventful week! Started off with a day in Southwold, got soaked, then a hectic work week (long hours, stress etc), a Lidl haul under £10 for the week and a moan about my financial mistakes. Can you relate?

Your doing great, mindset is so important. You have your own business which you have managed through hard work to keep going, you employ people giving them security. You have done this yourself, brilliant! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, you must be making progress, see where you were a year or two ago on your spending and look how you have progressed. I think that you provide a great inspiration to others. Maybe write a list of things you need in regards clothes household things and then have treat days out to car boots or charity shops and take your list and only buy things that are on the list, having rules helps. It turns into a bit of a treasure hunt and can give you something to look forward to. Enjoying your videos.
Hey Connie yes that’s so true, three years ago I was living in a bed sit with a chronic pelvis condition so things have improved dramatically it’s hard not to compare with others and also I do worry about the future a lot xx yes I think a car boot treasure hunt sounds way more fun! X
To say that I am rubbish with money would be an understatement, so I can understand how you feel completely. My grandfather gave me some great advice. Decide how much I am going to save per week/month then as soon as your wages hit your bank account, straight into savings. For something like a deposit for a house, put it in quite long term stuff like bonds or ISAs. Also have some burn money, we all need the odd treat. With clothes I always found that going to charity shops in a smart part of town pays dividends. As you are in a small city, also check out the shops near the university. I have looked at Vinted a few times and nearly fainted. I taught myself how to use a sewing machine so I can alter or rejig clothes that are too big or don't have a decent cut.
Enough of that! I LOVED that beach hut and am now looking for ones near me to escape to. Doing my thesis, so the idea of peace and quiet with just the waves for company sounds like heaven.
You will get there, fellow shed-lady.
Miff
Hey miff thanks sooo much for your message! Some great tips. Enjoy your own beach hut xx
‘Yesterday is gone, tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today, let us begin.’ As said by mother Theresa but could not be more true. Don’t beat yourself up over yesterday’s ‘mistakes’ you can’t change them, just move on and change tomorrow’s decisions ❤
Oh thanks mate xx means a lot x
I love your videos I am so rubbish at shopping for food . Not being rude but your glasses make me smile
Haha I know they are rather large aren't they? Xx glad you like my vids Brenda cx
Marriage is not the answer to financial security. My ex spent loads and got us into debt. So, when we divorced the only house i could buy ( once the marital home was sold off and debts settled) was small, run down and in a rough area. However, i chose my rough area carefully - near buses and cheap supermarkets as well as the train station. When i sold it the area had come up in the world and i had made improvements to the house. I afforded this by hard work. I went from being on benefits to being able to retire to the seaside at 58 ( as well as brining up 2 kids on the way).
TIP: find yourself so.wthing that costs nearly nothing as a treat. Driving nearby for a beautiful walk in nature; yoga classes ( not via a gym); trips the library; free local festivals; amateur dramatics theatre productions etc. Celebrate everything you can find that is free!
Ooh I absolutely love this lyn very inspirational! Xx you’re right, I will investigate more free things to go to and not think I need a man hahah xx
Don't beat yourself up! House prices are too high, private rents are too high, none of that is your fault. I hear you - a lot of your fears are perfectly normal (speaking from experience). Remind yourself how incredibly capable you are. Btw, I cannot believe you're forty...I thought you were in your twenties. Best wishes to you and Jack ⚫💐, Robyn
Aww thank you Robyn/snow leopard xx
Really enjoy your videos. We're in a similar situation (solo plus cat!) - lovely you are not alone. It's so tough when you have to do everything by yourself. I'm 45 this year, single and no kids. I have a good job but can only rent a very small one bed flat. No safety net as I have no family/parents and never had any financial security. I'm in a huge amount of debt thanks to gaps between jobs and a very toxic relationship a few years back. I stay as sane as possible by trying not to compare to other people. Who says you have to own a property! Personally I am going to save hard once I have paid back the debt and plan to use it to retire at 65 overseas somewhere cheaper x
Hey Laura lovely to hear from you! I can’t see myself ever achieving home ownership :( where can we move abroad?! X
@@BudgetFoodieUK Well one can rent a beautiful cottage on a farm in south africa for less than £500 a month :) I know because a good friend from there has done it. Have also met people while travelling who have moved to places such as Belize and Cambodia - it's still possible to live cheaply - and well of course! - in the world on the sort of pension pot the likes of us might have (I think/hope) x
Oooh brill idea! X
Your videos are simply THE BEST! Love them 😊❤
Thank you Maya! X
I completely understand the need for security as a single woman. Just last month I got on the housing ladder through shared ownership. It's a lot of risk, but my plan is to staircase to 100% within 3 years. Then overpay the mortgage by £5-6k a year so I'll be mortgage-free by my mid forties. With inflation and AI takeover it's a very stressful time to live.
Well done lady sounds like you have a fab plan! X
Oh my days Jack watching the Lion King, so cute! Lovely meals!
I know I’ve never seen him react to the TV like that sooooo cute x
You are doing great. Don't look back just focus on the future. I budget everything, it really helps. I have sinking funds for annual expenses such as christmas, holidays etc and plan ahead as much as I can. It helps when beginning budgeting to log everything you buy for a month and put the spends into categories; this really helps focus on where your money is going. Pay yourself first by putting savings away as though they are a bill and then allocate your budget and leave yourself something for personal spends such as clothes etc as if you don't you will resent your budget!
Spot on with all of this! Budget, keep track of every penny and pay yourself first as a bill for savings, it works. As soon as money reaches the bank account shift the savings amount straight out to another account, finding an account which pays the best interest rates for savings 👍
Budgeting the rest of my finances (not just food) I think will be the key to my success! Xx
Yes, it's going to be fine because you're thinking proactively! Be like a European til you've saved enough- most European people rent their property 👍 Also mindset, should anything happen you're able to access help with rent costs, not so easy with a mortgage. Lettuce leaves- bung them in with a stir fry, extra greens and not going to waste. Cucumber pop in ice cubes and freeze for adding to cold drinks of water etc. You work hard, you're proactive, and you keep it real! My daughters are all in their 30's and 40s. Not one of them are married, one was and divorced him. The others don't want to give up their autonomy and independence to do whatever they want to do. As for vinted, just take the app off your phone for as long as you want to save some money- I've removed loads of apps and also unsubscribed from marketing emails from several places. Great video👍
Meant to say Morrisons do a brilliant pack of bacon offcuts for £1. It's a massive pack and often there's large pieces thick as a gammon steak, and by sorting in into portions you end up with loads, some are slightly shorter rasher sizes and a few smaller pieces ideal to add to recipes. Every pack is different, so by buying a couple of packs there is so much bacon in them it's a brilliant bargain
Thank you so much carol loads of amazing advice! X
Good morning! So nice to see you again. Wonderful meal idea as. I plan to incorporate several. I have heard the same thing about sauerkraut. It’s so much work to eat right but worth it. And what a love spot on the beach 🏖️ Thank you much for sharing
Morning Carole hope you are well xx
Have you ever watched Jane's channel ... Frugal Queen in France. She's British and a former blogger who paid off her mortgage and moved to France. She does regular frugal and budgeting videos with her husband Mike. She talks a lot of sense and discusses how to budget down to the last penny each month, as well as shopping hauls and cooking. She's well worth a watch for a bit of inspiration. 😀
Hey lovely Sue I’ll check her out I think it would be great to get some more overall frugal inspiration xx
I watch her too. She is very disciplined and helps keep me focused.
You are doing good, you have to start somewhere. Eventually it becomes more of a habit and easier. Just keep it up and it adds up!
Me too she’s an ex school teacher so has great delivery as well as content.
I’m now subscribed! X
@BudgetFoodieUK Watch one of her detailed videos of her monthly budgeting. (I think there's one within last 2 months) she shares everything, very detailed and informative, especially for someone just starting out.
Thank you so much for your share I think you have frugal fatigue you might need to rest things sometimes you just get a bit fed up with having to watch every penny take a break and then replan your budget and other bits of your life it is hard on your own you have to do everything yourself there is no backup if you want a cup of tea you have to get it or food or nip to the shop its you but on the other hand you do have your mum and your sister and friends and your fav boy Jack so chin up chick its a new day tomorrow your young healthy so turn that frown upside down give your self a a big squeeze have a blessed week xxx p.s.stay out of morrisons to dear.x
Hey Gail yes I need up avoid Morrisons it’s the nearest but Asda is my fav! Frugal fatigue not heard of that but love it x
Hi there, to echo a few of the other comments....you really are being too hard on yourself. Just look how far you have come in such a short space of time! Imagine all the money you have already saved since being on your 'budget journey'
Plus, I think little treats are essential for our well being...its great to save, and sometimes necessary but little treats here and there are a necessity too - Hugs to Jack x
Aww thank you lady I have tonight created an excel spreadsheet and now have a plan xx update vid on Wed x
Looks really nice, I used leftover steak in wraps with salad or a stir fry:)
Yummy!
Glad 2 c u back missed your upload this week hope all is ok .
Had a crazy busy week! Feel I was away too long haha I’ll be posting again Wed x
Omg honestly love your sincerity, you eat like a queen, so inspirational! I used to live in Catton (flat was horrid but great views of fireworks across city). You are an absolutely fabulous kitty guardian completely correct about Jack's whiskers, (they are the same length as widest part of his body, so super sensitive, so cats know they can fit through spaces, therefore they don't like them to be touched,) consider nettles, they are the veg with highest protein🎉and tasty, (shocker considering they weed but honestly tasty and surprisingly just washing them removes most of sting, cooking it completely destroys sting). But please don't throw ur veg n fruit in ur supermarche trolley cos it bruises, then spoils quicker! But I think you are amazing and loved seeing Jack watch the lion king😂 ❤! Keep up the great work!!
Hi Georgina wow you lived in old Catton?! I love it here xx I love my little Jack he is my furry little male feline. Will try to find some nettles! X
Jack is the best!
Thank you Alex! 🐾🐆😸🤵
I follow the Frugal Queen in France who videos about saving, budgets, living on a shoe string. I know it is a different country but she is very good at resetting the mindset particularly re savings.. Good luck.
Hey Judith I shall check her out thank you for the recommendation! Xx
Please be proud of yourself ❤ however I feel we’re never happy ❤
I live alone (I have owned my little flat (1 bed) for two years, 29 and single. I have no luck with relationships I attract the troublesome 😅 so stay clear now. No children other than my mini dachshund. And tbh no social life other than the dog / immediate family and walking the dog 🐶/ work.
I constantly beat myself up that nothing is good enough!
Dachshund and little flat sounds fabulous! Xx
Hey I love your videos, I’m 31, have a small child under 2 and my partner is 40. We have some savings but not
Much. We’re renting & trying to save for a mortgage. Our landlord is selling the house we live in and unfortunately there’s a housing crisis where I live and rent is sky high 😢. We’re trying to save as much as possible every month and know it’ll be worth it hopefully in the next year or so to go for mortgage approval. You’re not alone, so many people have no money, no savings and no security. I worry about it all the time and feel guilt over buying myself anything (even second hand items) I buy things for my son all the time too as he’s always growing and needs more clothes/shoes/ age appropriate toys etc.
it’s so hard but you’re doing amazing and don’t lose hope ❤
The first 5 years of any start up business are statistically the hardest financially to get through.
For years I followed Dave Ramsey about finance and I finally learned about having an ‘emergency fund’ which I keep of £1000 at all times. I still think it’s important to have a separate budget for clothing/entertainment whatever you like in your life because it can’t all be budget budget budget and no fun or for yourself. Life is for living after all make your money work for you. I set up a direct debit savings account so every month when I get paid (work part time in finance 3 days a week) money goes to a savings account I can’t touch. That’s all we can do is try ❤ love your content & love your cat jack. Makes me miss my beloved cat. She died a few years back now but she was 18 years old 😊 she was a tuxedo cat too!
Hey lovely oh no why do landlords have to sell?! My landlord increased my rent after two years but only by £50 and I signed up for another two year contract at £800pcm. I will try to do that again next summer. Think it will take me four years to save up. I’ll look up Dave Ramsey! X
PS Jack says hi xx
I started budgeting Jan with a couple of binders and a budget book but it’s just finding out what’s best to keep you motivated- my experience has led me to do spreadsheets, keep some cash in my wallet for different purposes then when I spend it I really feel it instead of swiping my card when it just disappears, my wallet is a Filofax with a calendar and I write my purchases there everyday, it’s helped me save properly for the first time ever,!
Ooh love those ideas Charley! X
That beach spot was divine❤
It really was x
Have a lovely time ❤
Thanks Andrea xx
😔 you'll be ok lovely. I always worry n stress over absolutely everything, it sucks! x
Hey Rebecca omg me too xx
If you worry you will weaken your immune system. Just enjoy life the best way you can. We are here one minute, the next we can be gone. Nothing is guaranteed.
I absolutely love your videos. I do think you are too hard on yourself. You're doing g brilliantly
P.S. You do not look 40. Your skin is amazing 👏 😊
So true Maya! Xx
Hi yes we had same thoughts we have rented 12 yrs added that up was shocked we are now giving our place uo we can't afford it.its taken every penny we have .we did love it here .our landlords real nice but we are moving next month..maybe if you love the vented thing and nice clothes maybe buy some thing treat your self but sell an item you are perhaps not wanting then the cost kept down .I understand you..I had 3 small children and split from.my husband it was hard but you do keeo pushing on .love your honesty and channel and of course little jack x
Oh my goodness I hope you find somewhere equally as lovely xx
I am enjoying your channel! You need a budget for ALL your money, not just food. Start paying yourself first! Make saving your top priority and set that aside before anything else is paid. As someone has mentioned, Jane at Frugal Queen in France is the queen of "sinking funds" and long-term savings. She has a monthly budget episode. Check her out for ideas. Rubbins to Jack!
This is so true Amanda. I’ve been working on one this evening, I’ve done an Excel spreadsheet and going to use my channel to keep accountable, beyond my food budget! Xx Jack says hi x
Try to go through your wardrobe and sell items you don’t wear anymore and tell yourself I don’t need I just want, which is a totally different thing. Keep going and don’t be so hard on yourself x❤️
I need to do this Susan!! Xx
Theres so much to unpack this video you too hard on yourself embarking in 2 huge changes with food and financial budgeting at ince both can feel daunting/ confusing and hard.
We have a idea of what success is in this country UK fixated with home ownership/ high rents and crap landlord's plus lowest pensions in europe these thing's can make is us feel like we made so many mistakes and we keep focusing on the negatives rather than focus on the positives.
What if success is doing what makes you happy.
Dreams and lifes can change in am instant its been a crazy few years in tbe uk that has made big financial goals harder to change its not all you being bad with money. Is your instagram not working?
Love that beach hut. Positives you look fabulous/ you have a cute cat/ done well with job/ have lovely family and your home us stunning too. I dont think strict financial diets work its unrealistic to say you wont buy any clothes/ makeup or other treats. Yes ifs important to budget/ track your money / save / pay off debt but should add a small budget for clothesl/ personal treats. You work hard its about finding balance between priorities and living a nice life. You dont want deprive yourself too much that you feel miserable. I love carboots/ jumbles and clothes swap parties locall for my clothesl even fb market place. I live big city so lucky i have so much choice of supermarkets I can shop arounf which is time consuming but saving me money.
Oh thank you xx that comment cheered me up! Xx
Hi lovely lady ... Come on !! Dnt fill ure thoughts 2 deeply about future ure doing well and what you can you are saving you do budget as much as you can and sometimes we all need some new stuff it's not as if your blowing all ya cash on silly crap we all need a little something sometimes!! Enjoyed vid as per 👍 loved that beach hut I would of loved it I love rain mmmm slightly on my own there !! ..ps you have a lovely name I didn't know what it was !! .. be good !! see ya on nxt 1 !! .. 🩷🩷🩷
I know Carla!! Agggh we got this 💪 thanks for lovely compliment about my name xx
I’ve got a few book suggestions- your money or your life- Vicky Robbins and Joe someone. I will teach you to be rich- Ramit Sethi. That one has good money systems that is less punitive than Dave Ramsey. And the psychology of money. All good to get your head around why we spend and what we can do instead. Good luck love.
Hey Kirsti how are you this week? I’ll look into these thanks for your recommendations! X
I too am a single household, and I give myself £100 a month for Groceries. I get a delivery every 2 weeks, under £45 each, leaving £10 for things like milk, etc that I might run out of. This seems to work well for me, never go over £100 a month now.
Brilliant budget, do you buy meat and dairy etc with that? X
@@BudgetFoodieUK I do. I'm not a massive meat eater though, so I generally buy the largest pack of Chicken Breasts you can get, and that will last me more than 2 weeks. And then I sometimes buy the odd pack of beef mince or maybe some sausages. But other than that, I mostly get my protein from lentils, beans, chickpeas, mushrooms, eggs, etc. Milk is the thing I tend to have to buy every week, though there is sometimes surplus milk at work that I get to take home, which saves me a couple of pounds a week.
I may have to get myself some lentils. Do you eat/buy potatoes?
@@BudgetFoodieUK Hmm yeah I do, but not often. A 2kg bag would last me a few weeks
Yeah Lentils are soo good and tasty. Great for bulking out meals, red lentils perfect for curries, green lentils are great for bolognese-type meals. Also super cheap, when you think about how much protein they hold. Same goes for all beans, chickpeas, etc. Dirt cheap for the protein value and health benefits they have.
Living rurally with no transport has put my food costs up substantially. I have to buy online food shops and never see the inside of a supermarket. I cook from scratch, never get take aways and buy all the offers. I've 3 small chest freezers to put bulk buys in. Cat food is the biggest problem. It has tripled in price.
Oh my goodness yes cat food is so expensive I now only buy Jack dry biscuits and I give him bits of my meat as and when I cook it x
Like the jumper xx
Thank you! From vinted x
Some great carboots local Sprowston Park and ride and arminghall got loads of lovely clothes for 50p!!!!
This is what I need! 50p goodies!
What day is the sprowston car boot? Thanks
I think Sunday at Sprowston park and ride in the morning x
Online orders from places that are good value and this is a big one having a chest freezer and growing a fair bit of our own stuff too, one thing I'd definitely recommend even growing curly kale in a pot because it's so tough it'll stand through winter, harvest leaves as and when, get some chard going as well, it's nicer than spinach and won't go to seed easily like spinach, if you want any other suggestions or advice regarding easy veg to grow for yourself I'm happy to help, just message 🙂. Please don't say about having OCD unless you are actually diagnosed or seeking diagnosis, it's so much more than being particular about something, it's hell living with it frankly. Aside from that you're doing great and at least you're trying to do something about it now before it's too late, too many people bury their heads in the sand, it's a horrible situation for our generation and it's not fair but we've got to try and carve out a patch for ourselves.
I know I’m so sorry I shouldn’t have said the OCD thing, I know people who actually suffer from it and it can be debilitating I hope you can forgive me xx I will give growing kale a go! X
I have tried to like sauerkraut olives and advocado but despite sticking with in and finishing the jars and packet i will not be buying them again . however i love lamb so i think i may pick some up today . Ocd is a real pain thats my main reason for not going on foreign holss since my hineymoon in canada over 20 years ago .... a beach hut i could happily do it looked lovely. I have alwaysmeant to watch the loin king and revist all the old disney movies i think i am going to make its my goal between now and the summer px
I love lamb too xx
Looks lovely food ❤ another single 60 year old enjoying your videos ❤
Thank you Andrea and welcome! S

Love Southwold. We were there first week of march. Long drive from Lancashire tho. I'm 61 and renting. I'll never be able to buy. My main worry now is not being able to pay a funeral on 😂😂😂. You'll get there. I wish you happiness and love to Jack xxx
Hi Christine, hello to you in Lancashire! My grandad was from there! Will your pension cover your rent? X
@@BudgetFoodieUK No I've not got a pension. My hubby works but I've only ever worked few hours and never paid contributions 🙄 We can afford rent and bills as long as hubby works. We'll get by. We always have before 😁. Where was grandad from? Xx
He was from Lancaster! Xx
@@BudgetFoodieUK we are from Burnley 😁

I would really love to know where you got your fridge storage containers. Are they glass? I've been looking on Amazon but the glass containers with lids are expensive! By the way, I live about 45 minutes from Norwich on the north Norfolk coast 😁. I think your food looks really appetising. It's hard to budget and think of meals when you're single, as well I know! By the way, my marriage brought financial security but also a lot of unhappiness. My second relationship brought me a lazy man who expected me to go out to work while he lived the good life. I feel lucky to be on my own now 🙂
North Norfolk - whoop I am originally from sheringham if you know it? Yes glass ones from amazon I got a huge set for about £16 I'll try to dig out the link for you xx
I have a problem with amazon and temu things i never knew i wanted i am like you working on this myself
Also i usex to do 10% pay self before anyone else and saving soon built up i dont know why I stopped doing it because it really worked something i want to start again xxx

Oh baby girl sorry u r feelin down we all have days like that. As u know i am 50 in july married to the ih invisible husband and have 3 teenage daughters so u could say i have no finanical worries but with my chronic longterm ill health i have my own set of problems. If u can se5 up a sucesful business you can certainly sort ur finances out . Dont be so hard on yourself. With my background in psychiatry people assume that i would have my life sorted so not true i can advise clients but with the best will in the world i dont tend to listeto my own advice. Haha ok thanks Paula I know where to come if I end up homeless, I can offer an array of budget meals to pay my way 😂 it’s an interesting point you make about some people having financial security but other areas of their lives are not quite stable, I hadn’t even thought of that xx thank you so much for following my channel I look forward to seeing your comments and having a chat x

It’s really hard budgeting solo for food, I watch a channel Befree Befrugal who shops at her local Sainsbury’s and gets fabulous bargains many times 10p a go, might be worth a visit in the evenings for markdowns, that’s if you’re not to “cream crackered” after work, I’m retired and when I was working I spent around £19 on a bus pass every week, seems a lot but I used it every day even on my days off, I wish when I’d got my free bus pass I’d put the bus fare away each week, somewhere in the region of £10,000 after 10 years!
I watch that channel 2 wish my sainsbury had bargains like that they amazing. Love her cheap day trips she does incredibly well.
Omg that’s a lot of money to the bus company! But you needed it at the time xx have now subscribed to Befree Befrugal x I’ve always been unlucky with the yellow tickets but Asda 715am on Saturday seemed to have an abundance! X
Please don't dip into your overdraft. You need to at least fight to save 1k for an emergency fund. It really does help :)
I know I need to sort it out xx first priority xx

I’m heartbroken for our younger generations today I’m 58 now but bought my first brand new house at 19 with a 100 percent mortgage for 26k. Of course I was only earning 4k Paid off mortgage 10 years early when the Covid shit show started. When governments print money like it’s Monopoly money - leads to inflation every time resulting in rate hikes.. It’s so much harder now we have three girls two married and one living at her boyfriends family’s as it’s a big house, saving like mad for deposit. We are about 30 odd miles from London so you’re talking 250k for a first time buy. Of course I don’t know your personal circumstances but trying to do this alone while renting is unbelievably hard. If you were my daughter I’d suggest you live at home until you have your deposit if that were possible. Learn about finances assuming of course you don’t already know. There’s a reason they don’t teach it in schools. Taxpayers and consumers for big corporates indebted for life. I truly wish you well hope your channel really takes off, you come over as a nice genuine lady. Sometimes we all need a little helping hand.
Hi Tina thanks sooo much for your lovely message. It’s a blinking nightmare, I’d love to live with mum but she is nearly 80 and also she now lives with a man (gentleman friend) so not possible. But will try what I can. Will keep you posted on my journey x much love x
