This is the way we learned to eat sunflower seeds in the shells: firstly, you place one in your mouth, maneuvering the shell so that you can gently crunch down on the side of the shell where it naturally splits open. Once you hear the little crack, indicating that the shell is split, you will remove the seed from the two halves of shell and pop the seed back in your mouth to eat it.
The only purpose of buying sunflowers roasted in the shell and salted, is to slow down the consumption of this treat because, it is way too easy to eat a whole lot of sunflower seeds when they are de-shelled and roasted and salted. This way, you get a little bit of the salt off the shell for the brief moment it is in your mouth, and then you get the lovely roasted seed to eat.
You took me back to when I also didn’t know that the shell was inedible….I also did that with edamame beans, eating the whole pod 😅, and my son’s Japanese friend had to correct me. Live and learn!❤❤
I need to plan out my meals for the week, like you do. I’ve never done that but, it’s a great idea, especially with food prices as they are. Great video!!!

Totally understandable about the edamame, sometimes you need a lesson or two with new foods to get it right 😂 Thanks for the explanation 💚 It all makes so much more sense to us now, but in the moment we were both totally bemused! Maybe we hadn’t perfected the technique, but after we learned how to eat them they still didn’t split neatly into two pieces, just crushed into 5 or 6 pieces in our mouths.
So glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️

Lidl and ALDI both have great prices here in the US…love their variety. Bought some sundried tomato wraps at ALDI last week…they were defy cheaper than the mainstream supermarkets🥭

Oh they sound delicious, we’ll keep an eye out for them in our local ALDI.

Glad you enjoyed the video 💚 We often try to do something similar, where we get as much of the shop from a budget supermarket like Aldi or Lidl, and if there's anything else left on the list we'll have to go to a store that stocks more vegan products. We usually end up at Sainsbury's too since it's just the closest place to us, but we find more options in the larger Tesco or Asda most of the time.

Love your hauls thank you I shop in Lidl which is 15 mins away by car but they’re building a new one literally 2 mins walk from me !! Sainsburys is also nearby nice food but definitely too expensive in comparison!

Thanks you 💚 Lidl is great, especially in comparison to all the other more expensive supermarkets. We’ve got a really good choice of stores in Bristol, this Lidl we visited is literally across the road from ALDI, so we end up usually preferring that more often.

Loved this! There isn’t many vegan Lidl videos on RUclips. I don’t have an Aldi only Tesco,m&s and lidl so this was very helpful for us that don’t have Aldi. Thank you🫶🏻💚

Another awesome video Charlie & Freya. Lidl is my nearest store to where I live but I also like to go to Aldi and other supermarkets for a change. I still manage to get the 50p soya milk in both Lidl and Aldi it might have been out of stock the day you went in. Love 🥰 the video and love ❤ Charlie & 💓 Freya.

Glad you enjoyed the video! We'll have to go back and see if we can find the cheaper soya milk. Good to know! 💚

In Birmingham Lidl and Aldi are hit and miss. Some are brilliant but the Lidl down the road from me is awful 😔. I know that in other areas of the country people have a much better experience of them. I spose it's on personal preference. But if I have to choose it would be Aldi xx

A lot of people have a similar experience. It seems to us that Lidl and Aldi change their stock for what they think the local shoppers to that specific store want, which can lead to less vegan products in each store. We're lucky that our local Aldi must have a good vegan shopper base.

You've got some great bits there, maybe I'll have to give lidl another try 😊

I do Sainsburys shopping and spent 60£ per week for two people. That includes toilet paper, kitchen paper, and sometimes wine. They do have a good choice that you can't find everywhere else. However, I do buy pea milk from Mighty Milk website rather then soy as need to reduce intake of Soy due to health reasons.

You must have some rock solid planning and budgeting ✨ We can never stick to that at Sainsbury's, but we do go more often at meal times when we're hungry and end up getting snacks!

Don’t eat the shells. Lol. You can buy the sunflower seeds already shellled in the US. Much better! I love watching you. Keep up the good work.

We didn't know! haha. We can only really used to the ones without the shells in the UK so it's just not something we've ever known about. We've started to come around to them as a snack though, Charlie really likes them now!

I just can't get on with Lidle (minds so messy can't find anything ) the supermarket's are all doing a price match on basic items so really there is not much difference between them tesco and Sainsburys are the best for vegan food 😊

You don't eat shells of sunflower seeds 😂🌻 prepare for painful toilet break (number 2 I mean) it will be prickly 🤣🤣🤣

It's very European snack, extremely healthy! You can eat shell when it raw straight from sunflower head as its soft but even then it's recommended not to eat shell regardless. What you've eaten now it's fried sunflower seed. It becomes hard and seeds have lovely texture. You break the shell with your teeth and with your tongue you wiggle out the seed. Sorry for laughing it was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
