Looks a bit tempting. I think that S9 could fit my style of photographing. Not really sure about the 26mm… A 40mm pancake with that body would be something I like.
Yeah, exactly. It's not all that bad a camera but it would need a nice compact 40mm(ish) pancake lens. The Sony A7CII is the same size though and there are plenty of lenses for that.
@@mattisulanto agree, but A7c ii about 50% more expensive though…and I don’t recall anyone ever saying that it was fun to use, but a nice camera! I already have the g9ii and g9, and if the s9 has the same autofocus performance as the g9ii, it may be the ff to buy as a second system if it drops in price. It seems more appealing than the R8 with the stabilization, using manual lenses is not a big deal with focus peaking, but stabilization makes a big difference in composing the shot.
Perhaps should have had the opportunity try with some of the small sigma lenses…I think that would make a big difference! So many folks who test note the ‘fun’ aspect of the camera…an underrated requirement IMO for casual use. Glad you enjoyed!
I think it is a fair review. I myself have a Lumix S9 with a TTartisan 28mm f5.6 manual focus lens and have been having great fun shooting with the combo. I have only taken about 10,000 shots, however, due to the extremely hot weather and occasional heavy rain in Japan, where I live. I set the lower shutter speed limit to 1/250 second and set the ISO auto from 100 to 6400. I set the aperture to f/11 and focus to 3m. I have the LCD on the back of the camera folded over backwards and I do not look at it while I am shooting. As long as I use the camera in this way, this combination is a lot of fun for me. That said, to be fair, you could do the same thing with a Canon EOS R8, or a SONY α7C ILCE-7C. I have about 15 digital cameras, and I don't expect to take all the pictures I want to take with just one Lumix S9, which may be another reason I am so happy with the Lumix S9. It can be a bit difficult to shoot everything with just this one camera.
@@mattisulanto Thank you so much for your response. The lower shutter speed limit feature of modern digital camaras is wonderful. That is, with the auto ISO.
Hey Matti! I'm really excited about the new Panasonic 18-40mm lens. I love that it's compact and offers a great focal length range. The 18mm is perfect for architectural shots, and the 40mm is great for street photography. It would be amazing if Panasonic released the 18-40mm alongside the Panasonic S9. I hope you'll consider giving the S9 another chance and review it with the 18-40mm lens.
Awesome stuff, Matti and great timing of your post. While I am not a huge fan of that lens, the camera body with the SmallRig grip is a great travel combo! I'm glad you covered who this was for, a lot of the channels didn't seem to realise this wasn't aimed at them. :) Well done, mate!
Thanks my friend. Yeah, too many people have the wrong expectations for this camera. I'm happy to see something a bit different and I hope it'll sell too.
Finally a camera from Panasonic that I’ve been waiting for. Compact range finder style and no view finder. I bought it from Japan in black and silver with the kit lens 28-200 mm. I really love this camera.
The main reason I have kept the S9 is the MP4 lite video format. The rest of the features like the LUT's I'm also not bothered about. The lack of a viewfinder isn't too bad for me but it's quite a heavy camera for one handed rear screen framing when compared to the Ricoh GR, X-M1 and X-E series. I'll happily carry the view finder less X-M1 all day but the S9 gets a bit heavy with a Sigma 45mm prime on it for example. Good review.
I'm planning on buying one of these S9s later this year along with some of the small sigma i series lenses and a grip. Here in the US the S9 costs $1500 body only, while the A7C II costs $2200 body only. The difference in cost will pay for two of the lenses I want.
I think I like the camera. Not crazy about the L mount lenses at the moment. I’ll stick with my m43 system and the wonderful little lenses for that system.
I own the S9, S1, A7IV and now Z6III, it's funny how my NX1/NX500 combo with the pancake 30mm F2 has much nicer rendering than the S9 with the 26mm, the pictures are more lively and have more presence. I think something is being lost with newers cameras and lenses. I also never got something like my Nikon G 70-200mm or my Samsung 50-150mm. My 135mm GM is sharper but flat and liveless, my Panasonic 70-200mm F2.8 is not bad but it also somewhat looks flater than my "old" lenses.
Thanks! The rendering quality is a matter of taste, of course, but modern lenses tend to be very clean and clinical. Maybe a little roughness in the rendering makes the photo look better.😀
Nice video, as usual :) Funny thing is that nowadays I see it as a feature if a camera has no viewfinder. I hate viewfinders but I always need to carry them with me and suffer the discomfort (ruining the camera shape mainly) if I want to have a proper camera :))

I ordered the S9, with the 20-60. But I am thinking of the 26 also. As stunted as it is. The size is amazing. The price is also very low as they are getting ditched now. But does the goed Ibis help with how high you need to push the ISO? I feel not much is to be recovered from anything as high as 6400 ISO even how good the software is now.
The IBIS can stabilize the camera but can't make shutter speed faster. So, if you need a fast shutter speed in low light, you'll have to push up the ISO. The acceptable high ISO is a matter of taste. Some don't mind a little noise but for some any noise is too much.
It is very similar to a ZVE1 in terms of body design choices. It just doesn't have the lens ecosystem to back it up. Most L mount lenses are large and heavy. The Sigma I series lenses are the smallest fully featured lenses whereas you have the compact Sony and Samyang primes on E mount. @@mattisulanto I do neither get why people get angry, but often it is Canon, Nikon or Leica fanboys that get angry. I for not hate any camera gear, but sometimes I do not understand what camera gear makers are thinking about when making some gear. As Gerald Undone said recently, the only Camera maker that do listen to customers are Sony.
That camera lens is a disgrace. I still think S9 could be a bit bigger and give us viewfinder as in A6xxx series.
You can buy the S5II if you need something bigger with a VF😀 Another option is the Sony A7CII.
Oh my gosh. F4.. well . Ok sir
That lens is a joke, in the same world where Viltrox announces pancake 28mm f/4.5 with AF, 26mm f8 with MF only is maybe 3-4 years late.
Yeah, they should have made something like the upcoming Viltrox.
Недоделанная камера. Не куплю её.
