Enjoyed! Just yesterday I was in a crowded street market….lots of interesting light, shops and people. Spotted a woman taking a number of photos, quick almost at times from the hip and sometimes lower, maybe a GRIII, or perhaps a lx100 or about that size or less. She was quite effective at getting the photos or at least most folks would never have noticed, which I think is key. Small works so well in an environment like that…keeps it realistic without anyone being impacted. Would love to have seen her results.

Great to see you two together. I was a professional photographer in uk for over forty years, and I've always chosen cameras/ systems depending on whether they were able to do the job I needed them to do, rather than who was using them since I retired seven years ago, I've mainly used olympus or sony. I 'think' I'm on my final system, which is sony aps-c, but things could always change in the future. For the moment, my A6500 and various sony and sigma lenses suit me fine.

Thank you. The only gear-related thing that means a lot to me is the angle of view of the lens+camera used by the photographer. That’s a function of gear, but it is more about how the photographer sees the world with that gear or how that gear helps the photographer see the world. I greatly enjoy videos in which photographers - in any genre - talk about their experience in this way.

Relevant conversation, and getting stuck in the ‘gear(s)’ so to speak, can detract from making good photos, or, inspire great photos. Though once you find the gear that works for you and is fun to use, then forget the gear for a while and just enjoy taking photos. Rinse, repeat.

One of the things I like about photography as a hobby (not when a pro) is that it’s a broad church, encompassing those for whom it’s all about the photo and they’ve been using the same camera for many years because it does the job for them, through to those for whom it’s more about the enjoyment of the gear and who like to buy new cameras on a regular basis.
Neither are wrong but it’s not pleasant to hear either extreme looking down on the other side: the first saying that the camera is only a ‘tool’ and that those who chase gear are not proper photographers; the second group saying that anyone who doesn’t use the latest gear is behind the times and could take better photos with modern cameras. If both types enjoy their hobby, it’s fine by me.

Do cameras made a photographer. Nice watching two elderly men talk about virtually nothing and enjoying life. That's my idea of life with a camera. The most amusing images are the videos of these sitting down and breathing in and out and making small talk. So relaxing.
I have views of camera equipment It must fit our hand and eye. Otherwise, you will fight the camera. For that reason, I love the feel of the Sony a6600 and a6700. Some of my best family photos came from those to. They are small and so easy to use. For film cameras, I very much liked my Pentax Spotmatic F I used around 1972. It was the perfect size and feel good for having a typical SLR body. None ever feel good in the hand. The lack of a good grip we have on today's cameras make shooting easier. That's my observation. The exceptions to that problem was attaching a motor drive to my Nikon FE2. Great fee but heavy.

Hello Matti, I have planned a test phase with the electronic shutter. Modern Panasonic Lumix cameras do not allow exposure times above 1 second and flash synchronization with the electronic shutter. But you can set the mechanical shutter again for flash and long exposures. I want to test whether I'm ready for full-frame photography with the Lumix S9 and expect the full-frame to offer more dynamic range for demanding monochrome photography. Are there any photographers with similar intentions? Is it a fact that ESHTR provides less DR than MSHTR? Anyway, the possible departure from the mechanical shutter should be discussed in detail. Thank you, Matti, for metoring me.

When I do photography, I most of the time do it like Ansel Adams said, I visualize the finished image before using the gear ! But you do need to know your gear well. I do not change my gear often as many today does, I keep my gear for many years, the better you know your gear, the less you notice it, it is you and the image. Today many jumps from one brand to another, follows hypes and trends, so you will not see a soul in their images.

It ialwys be difficult to communicate with only short texts.
On the one hand, there is a misconception that if you buy an iPad from Apple, you will become a world-famous painter or a much-appreciated composer.
On the other hand, if you really think about it seriously, the essence of art is that anyone can become a bearer of it.
If anyone can be a bearer, then it is not only those who are highly regarded by others are artists. Whether or not you are appreciated by others has nothing to do with whether or not you are an artist.
The practice of painting makes you a painter. The practice of taking pictures makes you a photographer. Do more photograph than gears. (Whether you are good at it or not is irrelevant.)
A camera becomes "a camera" just as much as it becomes a photograph. There is no photography apart from the camera, and there is no camera apart from the photography. A camera and a photograph are not separate things.
Though, it goes without saying that the same one person can be a photographer by day and a camera collector by night.

I don't think buying a new camera is any indication that you don't love photography or that you are a gear addict.
