For your wheel vibration - most common cause is mis-balanced wheels, so get the wheels rebalanced first (cheap). If no good, then you almost certainly have a mildlt bucked rims and new wheels and tyres would be the way to go.

Hey Seth, I have enjoyed your CLK videos very much! I have just purchased a 2009 CLK280 Convertible here in Australia. Very attracted to this CLK design and features as you are - more or less the last of the "collectable" Mercedes models. Very well built and certainly a comfortable driver's car. More so than my Mustang convertibles. I have noted some of your issues and interested in some of the tips and tricks you have posted for newbies such as myself. Mine is Cubanite Silver, black leather and top, full AMG package and options identical to yours, 16,000kms (10,000 miles) on the clock only. I just have a couple of minor dents and under (front) spoiler driveway scrapes which are being addressed. Other than that, mint condition. I have very slight vibration also within a 5-10km range around 100km/hr, though nothing too much to worry about. Was yours sorted with new tyres? I love the Mars red with tan leather colour combo you have - tan interior is very rare here in Australia! Thanks for posting - great overview and footage! Cheers mate... Mark :)

Check your engine mounts. They will cause vibrations if they are on there way out.

With these, don’t worry about the mileage as much as how well it was maintained. They’re rock solid as long as consumables and periodic maintenance and repairs are kept up.
I have a 160,000 mile example that’s still runs without a drip of oil on ground nor in the engine bay, and tracks straight as an arrow down the highway.
All systems working and has been for 6 years of my ownership beyond 120k miles.
But without due maintenance in history, and small repairs, they can run up quite a bill to refresh to a nice operational state again. Mine had bearings, timing chains, top hydraulics, window actuators all replaced before I bought it so it’s very good. Previous two owners were meticulous and timely with repairs. Those are the cars you want, and mileage isn’t an issue.

I loved mine but it was putting me in the poorhouse because most of the work i had to let my mechanic do. the worse was the tilt/tele control going bad, that was over $2500 in repairs and labor.

A bit of misinformation here. Ive the same car and to fix the windows one can remove the steel panel that holds the regulater without removing the seatback. But it is still involved. Several videos on youtube depict this endeavor.

Some of the Mercedes models that left the factory with the AMG kit as in their sport style body kits, lowered sports suspension and AMG wheels did have the AMG badge on them, a little like how some of the BMW M Sport models have the M Sport badges but are not thoroughbred M cars

    • @sethsaylor760
      @sethsaylor760  2 года назад +3

This is true. And while I am still under the impression that the AMG badge on the CLK only came on the CLK 55, I appreciate you having knowledge on the subject, rather than just leaving a nasty comment. I just got a comment the other day on an M sport 650, saying it’s not a real M car. Well of course not, it’s an M sport package!

Remove the balance weights on the wheel that you think produces the vibration, clean that wheel thoroughly. Drive it and if it still vibrates, get it balanced. Unfortunately, mechanics tend to not use logic (sometimes on purpose) and make you replace stuff all around the issue. I had that exact same issue. I removed the weight and cleaned the wheel and now I have no vibration at any speed and there's no balance weight on my wheel.

Good information, Seth. I have been eyeing these cars for about 3 years now. The one I test drove was a 2007 Silver. Someone had taken a screw driver to the wood on the center council and there was some bubbling of rust above the right rear wheel. Small but still there. This was a six cyl slk350. When I floored it and let up it did not upshift. The salesman knew this was the end of my buying this car and he was right. I later read that these transmissions shift like the way the previous owner drove. Also they are programmable if the shifting acts up. But this problem just made me see dollar signs... Decided to keep my 2001 Lexus and have the timing belt, done.

Amazing video, I had the same. I bought a 05 CLK 320 with the same problems. Replaced controls arms, bearings, tires, rims, bushings, brakes and rotors. Vibration gone after new rims. I have a fluid leak for the top, can’t find a mechanic who will touch the top, not sure what to do, I can’t find a leak but the fluid goes down after a couple open and closes. Same glove box issue.

I appreciate your comment, very interesting how you had a similar problem.
Do you see any hydraulic fluid on the ground around the vehicle?
By the way, after the inspection, some things changed. I'll have to add an addendum to this video, stay tuned.

@@sethsaylor760 There is no fluid under the car, it’s pooling somewhere in the car which is bothersome, hydraulic fluid gathering on metal isn’t good. I’ve looked everywhere and no luck. It’s ironic we had the same vibration and and parts replaced. It finally stopped vibrating after replacing the rims. I was very upset when Midas changed the tires and didn’t notice bent rims, how did they balance the tires when it was shaking? Either way, all fixed except a faulty top and still have to figure out the glove box. I’ll try your advice and see if that closes the gap.

I bought a 2007 CLK 280 Cabriolet Sport ltd edition AMG package in fabulous condition at 84k miles just at the point of first covid lockdown as I figured we wouldn't be flying on holiday for a long time and wanted to have local little holidays be more fun.
I've done about 8 thousand leisure miles in it and it's been a joy. It feels classy, it's great to go for a day out or weekend away for 4 (packing lightly!). Using the paddle shifters I can get great manual-like acceleration. Suspension is pretty sporty even in Comfort mode and rough road surfaces are a touch harsh.
Aside from regular servicing I had to fix a faulty coil, a failed siren and replace broken wiper linkage. Using independent specialist not too bad. I've got full Mercedes servicing which I'm going to keep up.
There a strong possibility lovely looking examples that are well-maintained will rise further as time goes on. It does 30MPG if relaxed, it is ULEZ (low emission zone) compliant
