I love Vars and its definitely not just him but the way people use the word "Viability" in Genshin seriously needs to change. People use it like anything that is not top tier "isn't viable" and it loses its meaning. I think some might use it as a means to try to be more polite about units being weaker, but then that by accident has knock on effect it likely makes newer players believe many characters ACTUALLY aren't "Viable" when they absolutely are for any of the hardest content in the game.

It might sound weird, but how about Gorou+Yun Jin? From my experience, Razor's biggest problem was his high mobility, like you have to place Chonyung's circle (or Rosaria's burst), Bennet's burst, in my case Jean's burst and stay there, while razor's attacks throw enemies back with each elemental reaction. On the other hand, buffs of Gorou and Yun Jin stay with you wherever you go (and you get perma shield from Gorou and find usage to Yun Jin's strange talent buffing team with different visions). I haven't checked the numbers, but on paper it sounds good.

While typically yes mobility is an issue, dropping everyone’s bursts usually allows Razor to kill anything within that area especially with Rosaria’s crit rate buff and the additional 20% phys res decrease from C6. Another weird thing I’ve found is Razor has a hard attack speed cap or moreso his attack animations cap at a certain percentage which I can’t remember. So even if I kept stacking atk speed buffs, there was a point where it stopped working which made me sad I couldn’t get razor to attack faster than some sword users with a claymore. it also doesn't help that Hoyo keeps making more and more machine enemies as late Abyss stages which have natural physical damage resistance, unless you're someone named c6 Eula with R5 Pines, it's just not viable to do late Abyss with pure physical anymore, at least not when you're a veteran have other options in elemental DPS

Taser (Beidou and Fischl) out damages her, I don't think I need to explain why Raiden out damages her what with Rational and Hypercarry, even c6 Rosaria of all people, has a stellar Reverse Melt team that does more damage per second than Eula's teams. Xinyan is the most underrated, as she actually has much more utility than Razor and in a lot of cases out DPS' him. If people actually built Xinyan, they'd see she actually has quite a lot of uses still. Granted her best support build requires C2.

Parry as a skill might not be a permanent addition to the game since it blocks out the ability to use Geo reactions, which Mihiyo commented on themselves as a way to use a stepping stone and for a certain reason. Also they already left a message only to be accessible by going around the normal way of entering the location, which they did publicly talk about somewhere online as well. I know that I commented somewhere else on another video exactly what Mihiyo said and more information about the message. What I said about it is last piece of the information, for those trying to scavenge hunt around trying to find out more information about the game; minus the few bits that we found out about the traveler which is making us personally not really use him at all. I am pretty sure mihoyo will release an "Elemental" Sword/Catalyst/Bow/Claymore/Polearm that offer Elemental % DMG increase as a secondary stat. Since it already exist as a passive bonus on some weapons. The only reason why they've not done so for a release yet, is because there aren't enough characters exist to take advantage of such weapons. We only have Ayaka, Ayato, Keqing, Hu Tao, Chongyun, Noelle, and Yoimiya that can maintain Elemental infusion to their attacks. Releasing just a "Elemental" Catalyst weapon wouldn't make much sense if they can't also do it for the other weapon type as a series. 4 Sword, 1 Spear, 3 Claymore, 1 Bow character are not enough for such weapon to exist, yet.

The problem I have with Physical right now is that a lot of the boss monster resist them heavily, we can see this in the previous few abyss where boss have ton of HP and high resistance while against mob it is also not great cuz you rely on NA and they have low range.Tthe only top tier physical character, Eula, her burst is powerful and have decent range but very high cd so she is in a very awkward situation overall
Without full on physical reduction team like Rosaria C6, Zhongli, superconduct etc your dmg is reduced significantly compared to reaction element making C0 Eula having really tough time, I have to reset many more times to get max star compared to other team. Also the fact that Eula is the only competitive physical character make it a pain investing on physical team and set, as much as I love her as a character she is just like Hu Tao, the queen of caveat, at least at C0. Razor C6 is only about the same level as Keqing C0 and we know her power level isn't competitive anymore. My fav physical team is Eula and Raiden but my raiden is now C2 and she deal just as much damage as my Eula without buff so at that point rational or hyper would be much more powerful, electro MC is better at battery single character but he deal no damage at all and he didn't add anything other than battery.

One thing that always tripped me up when I started playing Genshin was the fact that Elemental damage could crit. In Honkai Impact, physical damage was the only element that could crit. In return, element damage bypassed defense. Further into Honkai's lifespan, methods kept coming out that further increased element damage called vulnerability and breach. It was ironically balanced in a way that made any element come out completely viable because there were so many teammates and equipment that made them viable. IMO Genshin kind of screwed the pooch by deviating so much from Honkai's formula. Yeah sure, it gave Genshin it's own identity, but it made it run into so many problems in it's first year of being out. Units become power crept in like two months after they come out unless they are absolutely monsters. Four stars that come out are near completely useless compared to their five star counter parts. It's honestly just kind of sad.

My best team is my Eula team. I only got C0 and the craft able weapon but she hits like a truck.
And I am not necessarily talking about her burst... the burst only matters for bosses or the abyss anyway as nothing else even lives long enough for it to go off in time.
But that is a one off. For everyone else physical builds feel more like a early game phase. E.g. I had Fischl pretty early on and I played her physical as main dps for a long time but once you enter higher AR and get other units she becomes more valuable as a support. Today if I ever field her (*cough*Shogun*cough*) she is on field only for seconds, E or Q and off she is again.
I guess in order to stay relevant they could add supports that specifically benefit physical DPS. Like a character that not only gives a shield or heals but also gives a buff for physical dmg.
Either way I honestly do not expect another Eula to happen.

    Eula main here
I’ll be honest and say that Hoyoverse is probably scared of Physical damage. It’s hard to balance them for a long list of reasons, but let me name a few
Currently, there are about 8? Characters with viable physical builds. Which are: Eula, Razor, Xinyan, Xiangling, Zhongli, Keqing, Fischl and Rosaria.
Does anyone else Notice some patterns?
Physical damages are either: electro, Cryo, polearm or Xinyan. Why is that? Well, Cryo and electro are understandable. They are half of superconduct after all. Xinyan is the forgotten kid of physical damage sadly, and then there’s polearms. Literally no polearm character is designed for physical damage completely. Xiangling and Zhongli have nothing going for them in terms of physical, and Rosaria is half designed physical (with her constellations boosting atk speed) and half Cryo. However, none of these builds are used as much because there are better usages for them.
If you’re wondering how units that have literally nothing for physical damage are still decent with it, I’ll present you the most neglected yet broken weapon of all time, Crescent Pike. Crescent pike is a broken weapon, since it adds damage to your attacks. This scales greatly with any fast attacker, and Xiangling and Zhongli have the best attacks for crescent pike out of all polearms. Multiple hits and fast attacks are all crescent pike needs, yet Mihoyo hasn’t released a character that can use it since Rosaria. However, Ever since Rosaria, polearm characters have slow hits that have only one multiplier. Look at Yunjin, Shenhe… beautiful animations, but slow af and they don’t have multiple hits. Hoyoverse is actively trying to avoid creating a physical polearm due to the sheer power of Crescent Pike. And I think that’s the thing holding physical back. It’s not that They’re ignoring it, they’re too scared of it. Physical being an op strategy would undermine elements. But this has a consequence that most physical oriented units feel shy.
Physical’s play style has two key factors to it. You shred the enemies resistance to dust, and you get as much physical damage bonus as you can. Hoyoverse has succeeded in one of these aspects. Creating weapons with physical damage, giving pale flame and bloodstained 25% instead of 15%…but they fall short in many aspects. Why is it that Xinyan’s passive only gives 15% physical damage bonus, and it’s tied to her shield? Why is it that her C4, Rosaria’s C6 and Shenhe’s ult only reduce resistance by 12% or 15%? It’s funny how the most successful unit (Eula) reduces defense by 25% instead of the shy 15%. Razor has no way to reduce resistance on his own, which is part of the reason he has fallen off so hard.
A physical support would be nice, but I doubt Hoyo wants to do it considering how broken it could be if not balanced correctly
In the best case scenario, a ruin guard can end up with -30% physical resistance even if it has the highest of 70%. Superconduct’s 40% + Eula’s 25% + Rosaria C6’s 15% + Zhongli’s 20% = 100% physical resistance shred. That’s about the same if an elemental unit used VV since most units have 10% elemental resistance. The difference is that it’s in no way comparable when elemental damage dealers have reactions and better supports.
On another note, I’d like if the physical support would be electro, since we already have a good physical support-ish in Rosaria. The best electro unit would be fischl, but she’s better suited for other teams. If this were true, then you wouldn’t need have an issue running an electro and a Cryo unit since if you’re a physical damage dealer you want Rosaria and this hypothetical electro unit regardless. This would allow the door for a hydro physical unit to be introduced, and maybe take advantage of Shatter and Freeze.
Honestly there’s so much to say, and I’m fascinated by physical damage and it’s play style. It’s a shame Hoyo is scared of its potential and won’t truly design one unit except for Eula, but even she has her own caveats and issues.

Superconduct does not give a 66% damage bonus. That's not how resists in this game works; it gives ~28% instead for most mobs.
Resistances for most monsters are 10% for elements they don't specifically resist/are weak to. In addition, resist debuffs are halved when you go below 0%. So, against a normal mob with a 10% Physical Resistance, what happens is that 10% of the resist debuff is used to get phys resist down to 0%. Then the remainder of the resist debuff (30%) is halved before being applied, resulting in the enemy having -15% physical resist in the end, or your attacks doing 115% damage. 115% / 90% - 1 = 27.77% extra damage. The only time phys shred/superconduct gives anywhere close to 66% is if you use it on physically resistant enemies, and that's only a subset of Genshin's enemies. Also, keep in mind that the physical unit herself can be (and oftentimes is, in Razor/Eula's case) cryo/electro, which necessitates only a single additional elemental support if you want superconduct.
This affects a lot of your video's results. For instance, superconduct (and thus electro+cryo) is not any more "needed" than VV is needed for elemental damage dealers. Sure, 28% damage is nice to have, but it's nothing that a good buffer can't match. To add to this, good physical units can supply their own phys resist shred, like Eula who supplies 25% by herself. If you use Zhongli, he gives 20% shred. All of this cuts down superconduct's effectiveness even further since res shred stacks additively with eath other, not multiplicatively. Of course, superconduct is still good if you can get it, but it's not life and death like you describe in the video at all.
Also, you are waaaay overinflating Eula's damage bonuses in that comparison with Raiden. First of all, Eula is never meant to get anywhere near the maximum stacks for her ult. Her best rotations generally put her at around 12-14 stacks (closer to 12 without attack speed buffs), which is around 2500-2800% multiplier at max level. Still high, sure, but nothing near the 6500%+ you quoted. In fact, her C6, whose only purpose is to let her get near this cap, is known to be one of the most busted (actually overpowered) C6s in the game.
You can say that 2800% is really high, sure, but this isn't actually that exceptional in the game, either. Xingqiu's burst is expected to have a higher MV over its duration; Ganyu's burst about matches it if you can group at least two enemies together over its duration. Ayaka's ult stomps all over Eula's ult damage. The example you used, Raiden, also has more damage bonuses than Eula has (her E, ER to bonus damage, resolve); and her ult is not even considered very good damage until you have her actually OP C2, as opposed to Eula who leans pretty heavily on her ult for her main DPS status. Unlike Eula's constellations (her C1 contributing only the standard 10-15% that most other constellations give since it's additive with other % bonuses, and her C2 being just a QoL increase), Raiden's C2 is actually strong.
It's definitely true that phys has higher multipliers than elemental damage, but the extend is not as drastic as you describe. Eula would actually not be that busted at all if she dealt electro damage instead Heck, she might not even be that broken if she did all cryo damage, given that setting up reactions on her ult would require too much setup to be practical.

  • @Ottobon
    @Ottobon 2 года назад +1

I think Fischl as a normal attack unit is a very interesting study in this, you can learn all about this just by playing her:
Now i don't want to be that JEEEN guy you made fun but i'll start out by asking what is "viable"? With that Razor team you showed and Fischl in his place you can legitimately 36* with Slingshot R5, a 3* Weapon everyone has access to, moderately good (not incredible) artifacts, and with good play have plenty of time left over. However you can still play her as a normal attacker in a electro/elemental focused team, and typically speaking once everything is setup, good synergies, it just goes far easier in some cases to the point it almost feels like a joke, between electro charged, swirl damage, potentially overload, and everything else.
The rub is, and don't know why, physical just appeals to some people, outside of Eula/Razor/Xinyan its not how anybody recommends playing characters but there is something just nice about it that may not appeal to all, but definitely appeals to a few, myself included. Its probably meant as the "starter" damage but that simple ability to just deal up front damage, your character themselves appearing to dish it out, not some magic, no "tricks", raw muscle, its just cool.

I always described physical damage as “naked” damage. Genshin is a team game, so if you run a physical DPS you should always aim to have the team strip their opponents of their defenses so your physical DPS can whipe them out. The tactics are the same for any team running a hyper carry, it’s just so much more important for that you strip their resistances before engaging in physical combat.
Unless you’re a ruin machine. F*ck those guys.

they should make phys dmg unblockable by elemental shields. logically thinking, those shields are made of elements and it’s like trying to hit someone under water, the water doesn’t block you but it just slows you down but this is a game where you can fall a thousand feet high and barely get tickled if you manage to smash your sword on the ground right before you land. ofc this’ll make eula an absolute units against abyss mages and fatuis but this also gives mihoyo an opportunity to work around new character’s phys dmg scalings
and the best way to make phys dmg viable is simply removing the restriction of superconduct and make characters that reduce phys dmg with their talents and passives. they can also just make another reaction that works the same way as superconduct but with different elements. the reason why phys dmg is so overshadowed by elemental dmg is not only bcs of dmg but also due to the fact that elemental dmg provides a variety of team comps and play styles

Well i do have a res shred from zhong li so getting more res shred isn't as effective. The res shred is good but you can easily replace the somewhat above average increase in damage with a strong subdps like fischl, xq or even albedo.
The team i often use is razor fischl albedo and zhong li for tom snapshot buff on fischl, geo reso on all of them and res and def shred for all of their damage.
In terms of how the physical class can be improved within the confines if currently established Genshin rules, id suggest having a unit that pairs well with tom or nob and having them give a phys damage buff in their kit or constellation. This sill give them an attack buff that allows the physical damage to scale better. Also, physical units usually don't have access to a god tier buffer like bennet as bennet can eat reactions meant for superconduct or if benny is c6 you generally cant do damage. Having a buffer like bennet who cab fulfill multiple roles will help physical dps immensely.
The thing with other teams is that they have very good role consolidation.
You have morgana that has grouping, prolonged cc, buffer, healing.
You have international with buffing, healing, bjg burst, consistent damage, grouping and working off on each other's reactions.
If physical damagers want to keep up, they would need a support unit that consolidates multiple roles so they can add more to the team.
Like say having a unit that buffs the main dps with physical damage while dealing off field damage that can help complete a useful resonance (example is tom albedo that completes geo reso)
Sorry my thoughts are all over the place cuz im sleepy but yeah this is an interesting topic i definitely would love to discuss

Eula definitely broken, I mean most of the overworld monster already dead before her nuclear sword drops, except some shielded enemies, and she's only c0. I hope new physical character can be close to eula's power level.

I love physical builds. My Fischl and Keqing are on physical builds, with each of them slapping for insane numbers. My Xinyan is on a c2 nuke build. Physical damage is so fun in Genshin lol

In Honkai & PGR, Elemental cannot crit. Only Physical can crit. Not sure why they did Physical dirty like that in Genshin.

I use physical Jean in the overworld since she is my favorite character and I just want to use her as much as I can. Ive never dared to take that build into abyss though.

Usually i take my Razor for longer fights, because just using normal attacks is strong (unlike almost every other character in the game)

Seems like there might be a dedicated physical support soon and that's someone related to Eula in some way (Someone from Lawrence clan or in her team).

Would be cool to see a character that un-infuses other characters (like making catalyst users physical)
Idk what they would be useful for, maybe someone else can continue with this idea

i personally love physical but without Fishl's c6, Bennett's no cooldown skill i won't be able to break elemental shields. would be fun to see shields that shred by physical means faster (not in abyss tho because that would make all catalyst users mad as hell)
