Several major automakers, including the likes of Ford, Chevrolet, and Harley Davidson, have found it very difficult to sustain themselves in India, and they eventually left the country. While big players struggled in the country, new entrants gained immense success (Kia, MG).
Unlike developed countries and other developing countries, the Indian economy is different, its challenges are uncommon and most importantly the consumer preference is unlike the rest of the world. What sells in the west, does not necessarily sell in India. Indian market consists of a large number of middle-class people who are price sensitive. And it’s not just about the sticker price of the vehicle - the mileage, the after-sales service, cost of replacements and the longevity of the cars are factors that affect the choice and preference of Indian consumers.

BS-6 has killed diesel engine market and ford was famous only for diesel cars.
When it comes to Petrol, no one can match the overall performance of Maruti cars.
Government should give some relaxation for diesel cars in terms of emissions.
Sin tax can be imposed for that.
BS6 was necessary to save our environment, western(EURO6) countries have adopted the norm way back. Performance is relative, true that MS cars are have got a lot of things at this price point.
When it comes to relaxations, electric cars do give you a lot in terms of savings.

New companies like MG and Citroen are certainly beneficial for us, they not only give buyers more options to choose from but also keeps the competition in the market alive.
Citroen is reputed European brand and MG belongs to China's SAIC. Both have been making dependable cars from a long time now.

When you talk about Indian car market also mention the taxes paid to the government. Its more than 50% in terms of gst, cess, road tax etc. No wonder in cost cutting to maintain on road price.

Our Indian politicians are confusing companies..
Gadkari say BS6 norms ok then
1st go for CNG / LPG cars
2nd go for hybrid cars
3rd 6 air bag ( No issue with build qoulity ? )
4th Go for biofule car
5th Go for electric car now (but no infrastructure)
Coz of lac of knowledge
Agar india ma us jaise same model aye toh i can definitely say no one will leave the country indians ki purchase power bahut hai

You point is completely valid. The low number of service centres was also a consequence of low sales numbers.
Chevrolet is camig back
Can't say anything about this at present, but they have understood that high end models won't work in India. Tavera & Beat were winners for the brand in India but it couldn't sustain it's position in India.
US brands are hard to sustain over here coz the parts were high costs & people couldn't spend it so much around it. Chevrolet's chances to make a comeback looks minimal but they might bring high end brands like Cadillac or GMC in near future. Hope this happens
