Thanks Gary - Agree with you. the optical wrist using Garmin HR3 usually good, would like more accurate readings. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I found the same general menu options that you had mentioned on my Fenix HR3.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've just got a new Fenix 7, I've tried to pair it with my heart rate monitor (Garmin HRM Pro) and followed the steps in the tutorial but whilst it says it's connected, my heart rate doesn't come up my watch or on my Connect ap? Worked fine with my old Forerunner 745. Any ideas? Thanks.
Since I box, I don’t like to wear my fenix watch. Can I wear the hrm dual without the watch and have it send readings to my garmin connect, or am I gonna have to wear the watch under the gloves?
Before this I wonder when I connect the external HR does the data give me the external HR or optical wrist HR. So u said the external HR will overwrite the optical wrist data once it connected. It clear for me now. Thanks!!
Thanks for that, my question is ive tried connecting the hrm to the garmin connect app and it cant find it? How is this when zwift sees it and now my fenix 5x has paired it.
Good question Mark, I have never tried to use it with the connect app. My connect app doesn’t allow you to record an activity so maybe there is no need to connect the HRM to the app. Wish I could help more.
@@teaandtrails thanks for reply, saves me keep trying to connect it. Ive connected it to mr fenix, my edge 830 and edge 120 fine so that should be ok. Just I wanted it to show the data on the garmin connect to get my vo2 max and heartrate efforts.
The back LED’s turn off when the external HR is being used. The light will stay on though until you actually start the activity. Also, the watch gives you a notification when it’s connected to a strap. I miss this from time to time though.
How different is the battery consumption when you are using the strap compared to the wrist sensor of the watch? I have an Amazfit Stratos 3 and when I use the HR Bluetooth strap I can barely exercise for 2.5 hours
Hi Gary, thank you for the advice, I was just wondering if I can sync the strap directly to the garmin app on my phone. My watch is a forerunner 30 and unlikely to be compatible with this strap, any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.
Gary... In order for the HRM strap paired to the Garmin watch to automatically take over task from the wrist do you have to enter in to an activity such as a run, walk swim etc... or will it work constantly while not in an activity? Am trying to determine which HRM is in effect when I am sleeping. (Doing an experiment on my night time resting heart rate)
I have a question that Iprobably know the answer to already, if you have already started an activity and you need to connect the heart rate monitor. Can it add the data from the point it connects? Ihave tried this on a Garmin Edge 530 and it doesn't you have to pair it before starting the activity.
Once I've connected my strap to my watch (Fenix 6) should I be able to see anything pointing to my strap on my connect app? Additional data etc? Or will that only come in the form of more accurate data after an activity
On Fenix 6, does it only show the heart rate from the strap during an activity. Mine does not show heart rate from the strap when not in an activity. When not in an activity and wrist rate is is switched off, then shortly the heart rate is shown and after 2-3 seconds there are 2 -- hivens shown on the watch???
@@teaandtrails thanks for the quick reply. Ijust want to determine my Fenix is ok, because it is the same with two different sensors (Dual HRM as well as the HRM3-SS)
Where do I see the actual heart rate? When I connect the sensor to the watch nothing shows on the heart rate unless im wearing the watch. (Then it just picks up what the watch is reading)

Hi Gary, when you connect to the Fenix 6 how stable is the connection? I have a Garmin Instinct and it tends to drop the connection to my Garmin HR chest strap after about a minute. I find the Instinct is quite accurate at normal activity levels but drastically under records when on a workout. I’m looking into buying the Fenix 6 pro but haven’t yet made the final decision. Cheers.
Hi Tony, connection has been fine for me. It has dropped the odd time, but nothing that has caused me concern. However, I have had this in the past with some forerunner models. Might be worth waiting a bit. Pretty sure Fenix 7 is on its way.
I use external HRM while riding a bike, cause I attach watch to handle bar for easy monitoring HRM and cadence. Also watch attached to handle bar is less vulnerable in the case of crash. in winter sporst wrist monitoring is not an option due to the several layers of clothes covering wrists and watch is attached over the clothes.
@THE OUTDOOR POV Thanks for your concern! Very kind of you. I got a different heart rate strap to talk to the watch. And as a bonus, the Tickr-X was picked up by the app I was using to record my workouts, which was my ultimate goal anyway! Hi does the hrm record the data without the watch so that you can upload it later or does it have to be synced with the watch....
Good question! I don’t know for sure, but I think it has to be synced to watch.
Can it be paired with a Polar H10 chest sensor? Thanks
Good question Marko! but I don't know the answer. If polar used ant+ tech then there is a good chance it will pair.
Can you pair any external heart rate strap to a garmin?
I have a friend who paired a polar strap so I think you can. I would check with Garmin first.
