If the weightlifting rep counter is not accurate and you need to manually adjust it then it's pointless. You might as well just not use it and type it in manually.
It's not pointless, because you have all your training info (weights and reps) on your phone or computer. So next time you workout you can just look what you did on your last workout and increase the weight or reps
Love seeing how you use your Garmin watch as a hybrid athlete! Feel like there are lots of review channels, but this was awesome to see how you do it in real life. Inspiring me to get a Garmin as a primarily strength athlete but novice runner.
wow thanks for this comment Diana. I have another Garmin Hybrid Video coming out. More with its ecosystem and syncing it to smart scales, Myfitness Pal, your calendar, widgets, etc.. Thanks for the feedback
Noted! I will have another Garmin + Strength training video August🤙. Im half way through my powerlifting prep and learned a few good tricks on the app and watches.
Just came across this video. I use my Garmin for running, swimming, bike (lots of videos) and strength work. This is the first one I have ever seen. Thanks. Very clear, very useful.
If I'm doing a CrossFit workout where it's strength movements and cardio movements mixed and for time, how would I create that as a custom workout? I'm having a hard time because it seems like it wants either strength with all the list of exercises, OR cardio with laps/times/distance with no choices for movements recorded.
Hi, I just discovered you because of the Garmin vids, the quality of your content is so good! Could you maybe do more stuff on Garmin? Like day in the life, more strength training/lifestyle stuff? Would be super nice to watch
This comment got me so HYPED! Thanks brother I want to go full time with RUclips this coming January. Just dropped a Garmin video I think you might enjoy.
mostly every Garmin Watch from 2023 has the same strength training features. Workout Diary, Rep Counter, Muscle Maps, etc... I made a video I believe last week comparing Garmin's Cheapest watch from 2023 to their premium ones. ruclips.net/video/EvBjYMjvGm4/видео.htmlsi=qgo5LCR_VjZ9KTW6 Hope it helps!
Strength training with a Garmin Venu 2 watch is a chore. You constantly have to enter weights since the watch "forgot" which weights you were using in the previous set. The number of reps is for the most part OK. But then there is no way to enter the exercise performed on the watch (you have to correct after the fact in Garmin connect), even on watches that have the hardware for voice input. And sadly, Garmin is not very responsive with respect to suggestions.
Thanks for your interesting and extremely very useful video- this info is rarely given in most reviews - so thanks! , im going to take the plunge on a Garmin Epic 2 Pro 51mm - My Last watch was a Samsung Watch 4 Classic, which for workouts etc, is completely rubbish. You Cannot edit reps etc all the exercises are mainly set to 10, and the battery life is dreadful - if I do a 1hr + GPS ride it won't even last a day. It may suit a newbie who needs guidance, but that's about it, im very very much looking forward to being in the Garmin Club!
This is great info thanks. A tutorial on how to create and use this workouts would be nice, specially on how to pass from one exercise to another with rest periods etc. Sometimes the order of the exercises on the gym changes when the equipment is being used. Using a Epix 2.
Thanks Miguel for that idea. With the new update on our Garmin Epix 2. it makes it easier to go back to a group or skip a exercise to do later in the workout. I'll make a video or a RUclips Short on it.
Thanks for the video! I do not own a Garmin, only a Polar H10 chest strap. Do you save time with this app or is it necessary to adjust the data manually on a regular basis? Does it make your life easier or train more often? Is it possible to generate a mont-long plan and the watch reminds you to actually train? I would be interested in more video showing all the features.
Thanks brother. Great detailed question When I have my workout logged into the watch. Its my favorite experience. I am more efficient at the gym, and it's easier (to me). You can find workouts with Garmin (Strength, running, cycling, etc....) and you can log them in the calendar. Then you will get the reminder to do your workout. Hope this helps!
@@Aesthetic_Al Yes, thank you! So you would say it the watch really made you train more often or regularly? From what I could figure out, Garmin is the best option for weightlifting, Polar does not even offer an option to adjust reps etc.
@@joggerino3284 . The watch can't make you do anything you don't want to do. However, all the performance metrics it collects for you, goal setting, and reminders helps with motivation. Also, Garmin is not mainly a weightlifting watch. Garmin watches, especially the higher end ones, can handle just about anything a normal person can throw at them. If you really want to go all out with a Garmin watch you can get one of their MARQ watches but they will set you back a couple of grand. I doubt you'll ever use all the features in their mid-range to high-end watches so the only decision is how much you want to spend.
my tip is to throw away those stupid smart watches and gain weight instead. focus on training not on fancy shit on your wrist! if you can't count your own reps, don't go to the gym xD
Hi my friend and thanks for this nice video. I have a special question. I already use a trainingsplan on my iphone. Is there not a way to just say: START GYM without have to log every single rep? Is this the option FREE? In this case is it possible to add the mode FREE to the favorites? It would save many time :) I just bought my first Garmin and used to have Polar. Garmin is much more complicated but I understand that I have many many more possibilities to use...we will see :)
Unfortunately unable to add any types of exercises. Since I’ve switched to Garmin for the year and half. That list has doubled so hopefully they add the ones you need. They are putting a lot more attention to strength training than before
Can you do superset? Also, does it store workouts? I tend to follow the same programme for 10 weeks, then mix it up. It would be great if it saved my 5 day split?
great tip! thank you. out of curiosity, do you enter the weight of one dumbel or the combined weight when you for example doing dumbell press or similar? =)
In depth tutorial would be great, i.e. best way to set up steps and rounds in create a workout. Also, a walkthrough of what buttons to press during the workout to advance to next set or next exercise etc.
Question if you are doing dumbell workout or concentration biceps curl or dumbell row on right and left side do you split the set? or you just combine the rep and weights on both side?
I just combine the reps. Single hand, dumbbell work is a bit tricky because if you are doing dumbell rows if your hand is resting it won't track the reps. I still use it just to count the set and HR but then tweak the reps on the watch after the set.
I just discovered Garmin's custom workouts today. I do both running and strength training and really appreciate the ability to create my own workouts. Amazing feature!
@@Aesthetic_Al . I set up my custom running workouts since my original post. Just waiting on the rain to stop to try it out. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
Hello, can't you have the weight displayed on your app ? You can choose almost anything (including sunset hour...) to appear during your training but not the different weights you're used to lift. Which is frustrating because I always have to remember something like 75/42/55/20 when I do a set of different exercices. I'd really appreciate if these numbers could be displayed instead of « 12 reps » all the time.
You have the rep counter on the vivosmart 5 and everything I discussed on the Garmin Connect App in this video. In 2 weeks I’ll try and make a Garmin connect videos on top features everyone should know. Something along those lines. Hope this helps JR 🤝
This watch isn’t the best. I hate the way it tracks the workouts. I didn’t realize that it has a voice and beeps, dings etc. which is super irritating. Finally figured out how to turn it off. I have a motorcycle and it logged my ride today as 2 bike rides 😂I think I might go back to my Fitbit 😬
In my workout I have supersets, somentimes jump set. As you know i.e. 4 series in a round but after two exercises I have to rest. How can insert inside the round rest after each set. Better 4 series - Pulley & Lat machine I do 6 reps pulley after without rest Lat so now rest 1 minutes. How can insert this type of routine? 10x
after watching some of your videos, i'm now really thinking about getting a garmin haha - just one question: does it automatically adjust the weight (lets say you bench 200 for 10 reps and on the next workout it automatically suggests you to hit 205 or sth like that)??
Just got the Forerunner 265. For the strength training workout. It has the option to edit the weight after each set. If I do the training session again, can it show me the last weight captured for that set before I start the set / exercise?
Come on... Garmin library exercise cannot impress anyone. It miss many exercises and one can't even use a custom description. Just impossible to say it is good.
Moving from the Apple Watch and looking for more in-depth Garmin videos, I got the Instinct Solar (first version) to get initiated, is there a way for you to compare each watch or give insight as to what each watch is catered for or reason to get a certain watch or maybe categorize said watches into different categories or maybe like which budget series to first get into before digging deep? Also, (still going through your vids)compare health kit to Garmin connect and show which apps work better and lastly, do you know of a good water app tracker that works with Garmin connect? Thanks a lot, I was looking to buy the Forerunner 255 and all review vids mostly focus on running. Since I am more into strength training and outdoor cycling, I hope all the features you showed here apply to the FR255 as well.
Glad I could help! I made an updated video with new features for the gym. I am pretty sure it should work on the new Forerunner 255. It works on my older Epix 2 and the new Venu 3 I just got.
Love you channel and just found you. I'm new to Garmin and i just got a Venu 3S from my partner. I wonder if I can use this watch as you are or does mine not have the same training app? Thank you for your time
When you are already on training mode simply free-styling a lift. When you complete a exercises you only hit the button to complete the exercise and by default the rest timer starts. You can keep doing this until the workout is over. It can help so at the end of the workouts you can see what's the average rest time in between sets.
for bodybuilding adding editing etc etc ... its just wasting time ... good for beginners ... its the same like almost 7 yeas seen the beginners in the gym taking notes on paper for each series of reps etc etc .... for experienced bodybuilders this watch is just good joke :)) !
Good point this it is really similar to the days of writing it down in a notebook. It really was helpful to me while I was following a powerlifting program. My coach would program me my workouts and I sent them back via the Garmin connect app on the website. Point 5 was really useful because it would help to calculate my 1rm and adjust my lifts for the next week. Just my experience. everyones different
I'm switching from AW to Garmin, epix pro arriving next week and getting some prep work done. Very helpful videos! I'm going to use it for cycling, hiking and strength and just wondering about warm up sets here. Do you just not hit the lap button to start until your main working set and then stop again before the warm up sets for the next exercise or do you program warm up sets too? Keep up the great work on the videos!
Glad it was helpful! I usually have 3 workouts I follow weekly every 4 months and try to progressively overload the weight. So I have a warm up that when I am ready to start my main working sets I do hit the lap press button. After for another exercise I actually dont really do warm up sets but you can program a warm up if needed. I would probably do some warm ups during my "rest time"... Hope this helps you really got me thinking.
Nice, succinct video on real world problem. I already own the watch and strength training is not it's primary function, so I don't want to buy a different app or use a different process for this. This video was the most helpful one on the topic I found. Oddly, I had to search outside of YT to find it.
How do you like the garmim paired with iPhone ? Had an Apple Watch but got rid of it wanted more of a sports watch instead of a smartwatch excited to get it started
WoW great video, thanks. Can you do also such video about HIIT training? I mean how exactly "Free HIIT" in Garmin works, when to push "round" before start of a round or after? Would the warmup be also recorded with Free HIIT Workout? Best regards Artur
Check out the video I just made it might help clarify. Almost all of 2023 Garmin watches will have all the strength training features and I do an accuracy comparison I was shocked: but if for the price from least to greatest: Vivoactive 5, Venu 3, Epix Pro. I mention those because you said gym and didn't mention anything about other sports so I excluded the Forerunner series. Hope this helps brother. Cheers!
What are the benefits of having the strength workout on your watch besides the math? does it do something to the other metrics the watch is tracking? It seems like a lot of work to enter in the phone, compared to the paper tablet I keep? I do like how you walk through the process most people spend less than a minute on a feature, just so they can talk about as many features as possible.
In regards to any type of health or workout metrics no difference as far as I can tell. I tested it by changing for example the "work load" on lifts or the time duration and nothing. I am using this because this summer I signed up for a powerlifting meet and hired a coach. All my Lifting is done base on Percentages % on my compound lifts. (Feature 5) in this video. So it helps me as workout journal and I made my Garmin Connect Workouts accessible to my coach so he can see what weights im hitting weekly. As a workout Journal Garmin really looks some great features from Apple Apps Like "Heavy, Gymaholic, Strong". Hope this helps brother
On the watch now you can on most models with an update during the workout after each set. You can also edit after activity is completed on the Garmin connect app. I have a new video coming out this friday with 5 new tips on using your Garmin in the gym! its coming bro
This was a good video for me buddy thanks, you understand the different type of gym goers the organised 1-3 didn't suit my messy ADHD style so learning about free mode and after editing perfect for me!

Hello, very nice video, thank you. I have one question. Could you explain where we can find the benchmark exercises please? I looked oll over the app, but can not find them. Thank you
@@Aesthetic_Al I see, thank you very much. However, I don't see the bench mark exercises in the menu workout. Is it possible that my Forerunner 255 doesn't support that feature? Thank you : )
Thanks for creating this. Any solution on the best way to put progressive overload type of workout? What would be the best way to put in the same exercise with sets and reps but with different weights - the only solutions seems to be creating same workout with just different weights.
The rep counter is really helpful. It can also track a lot of exercises automatically like squats, bench press and curls. I do not want to miss it in the gym anymore. I've been using it for 6 years now. It's also great for skiing, golf, running and cycling. I even use it for racket sports, but it does not track your shots or anything related to just that acitivity.
You went under "Training and Planning" > Workouts > Bench mark exercises? let me know. I have a follow up video with some new tips for lifting coming up this week.
@@Aesthetic_Al Yep, from the main app screen, I went to More at the bottom, then > Training and Planning > Workouts only options i have are find a workout and create a workout. Not sure if it makes any difference but I'm linked to a Fenix 5, latest app installed on the latest iOS version.
This would be a useful feature if the benchmark exercises were not chosen by Garmin. I focus on Kettlebell training and none of the benchmark exercises listed are relevant to me... unfortunately.
I hear you. Garmin has been putting a lot more focus this last year in Strength Training Activity that it wouldn't surprise me if 2024 they added that. Especially as much as KB at least here in the U.S is growing.@@fbombtehgr3at

Means a lot!! I've watched the bigger channels for years just trying to make the best videos I can. Hope you stick around fam
When creating a Workout, can it show image or short video of how to do each exercise?
Love you channel and just found you. I'm new to Garmin and i just got a Venu 3S from my partner. I wonder if I can use this watch as you are or does mine not have the same training app? Thank you for your time
Good stuff bro!!! Very simple and easy to follow!! Great shots
how does the timer function work in training mode?
can I set a rest timer while training mode is on?
When you are already on training mode simply free-styling a lift. When you complete a exercises you only hit the button to complete the exercise and by default the rest timer starts. You can keep doing this until the workout is over.
It can help so at the end of the workouts you can see what's the average rest time in between sets.
@@Aesthetic_Al thanks sir...
Seems to me that it’s not very practical for strength training.
for bodybuilding adding editing etc etc ... its just wasting time ... good for beginners ... its the same like almost 7 yeas seen the beginners in the gym taking notes on paper for each series of reps etc etc .... for experienced bodybuilders this watch is just good joke :)) !
Just my experience. everyones different
yeah!! you have finally come back!! thanks for video!
It's good to be back!! Moved and now I have a better home office set up to film these videos 🙌
Plz make more videos like this. Not a lot of em out there
Long Beach run club!! 💪
Have to REPRESENT!! 🤙
Nice video thinkng of making the investment thanks
Nice vid! Got my fenix 7 yesterday. Appreciate the tips! Looking forward to checking this out in the gym👍
Do you like it for weight training?
How are you getting to that bench press Max setting
Really good video - cheers mate
Nice, succinct video on real world problem. I already own the watch and strength training is not it's primary function, so I don't want to buy a different app or use a different process for this. This video was the most helpful one on the topic I found. Oddly, I had to search outside of YT to find it.
How do you like the garmim paired with iPhone ?
Had an Apple Watch but got rid of it wanted more of a sports watch instead of a smartwatch excited to get it started
Disregard. I just seen you recently made a new video
Awesome video, getting an Epix pro gen 2
Is this workout mode also available at the garmin forerunner 965
It is in the 265, so I assume 965 as well
great video, thanks.
tutorials (step by step) would be great, especially with your experience, what works best.
Does it work with the forerunner 265?
I never new you could see the muscles used when inputing a training, so interesting!
I was trying to discover how to edit my reps after reach set. Thanks!
WoW great video, thanks. Can you do also such video about HIIT training?
I mean how exactly "Free HIIT" in
Garmin works, when to push "round" before start of a round or after? Would the warmup be also recorded with Free HIIT Workout?
Best regards
Artur
Solid suggestion Artur! going to write that one down
what is the best Garmin watch for the GYM ?
Check out the video I just made it might help clarify. Almost all of 2023 Garmin watches will have all the strength training features and I do an accuracy comparison I was shocked: but if for the price from least to greatest:
Vivoactive 5, Venu 3, Epix Pro.
Wow I feel like I found a new work out companion! Thank you for your video!
Can you increase reps and weight on each set? I couldn't manage to do that.
On the watch now you can on most models with an update during the workout after each set. You can also edit after activity is completed on the Garmin connect app. I have a new video coming out this friday with 5 new tips on using your Garmin in the gym! its coming bro
Does this apply to venu 3?
What app?
This is the Garmin Connect App
This was a good video for me buddy thanks, you understand the different type of gym goers the organised 1-3 didn't suit my messy ADHD style so learning about free mode and after editing perfect for me!
haha. Glad this was helpful. Want to bring more videos on Garmin besides running, cycling and swimming. More gym and Lifestyle features that are rolling out.
Hello, very nice video, thank you. I have one question. Could you explain where we can find the benchmark exercises please? I looked oll over the app, but can not find them. Thank you
Yup Sure! on the App "More" bottom screen. "Training & Planning"
"Workout" and you will see "Benchmark Exercises". lmk hope this helps!
@@Aesthetic_Al I see, thank you very much. However, I don't see the bench mark exercises in the menu workout. Is it possible that my Forerunner 255 doesn't support that feature? Thank you : )
Good tips. Thanks for highlighting the "Free" option in Strength. It was useful for me.
did free mode pop up for you automatically? I cant seem to find it
@@theveteranagent I can't definitely say that, because I've uploaded my exercises earlier. So I just found option "Free" in Strength
Epix Pro 2?
Thanks for creating this. Any solution on the best way to put progressive overload type of workout? What would be the best way to put in the same exercise with sets and reps but with different weights - the only solutions seems to be creating same workout with just different weights.
Working on it!! I know of a way. what watch are you using bro?
I have a new video coming out this week with part 2 on 5 more Garmin tips.
Using epix pro gen2@@Aesthetic_Al
Amazing tips!
Thanks!!
You look like Eric Morales.
🤣🤣 I was told Johnny Depp before lol
Good video. I didn’t know you could do that with a Garmin
Glad It could help!
Any one using the forerunner 255 for strength training like this?
you running into any issues?
@@Aesthetic_Al I found a good deal on venu2 music
The rep counter is really helpful. It can also track a lot of exercises automatically like squats, bench press and curls. I do not want to miss it in the gym anymore. I've been using it for 6 years now. It's also great for skiing, golf, running and cycling. I even use it for racket sports, but it does not track your shots or anything related to just that acitivity.
Thanks for sharing. Going to make more Garmin videos real soon
How accurate is it with squats or deadlift, if you do any? I guess it would not record any chin-ups?
Would love more Garmin videos! Enjoy your info. Thanks!
noted! cooking one right now haha
Bro which Garmin watch is this ???
I am wearing the Garmin Epix Gen 2. Here is the link amzn.to/3s5qt6b
Great tips, thanks!
Great video thank you for making this!
Glad you enjoyed it.. Starting a new Garmin series November uploading more of these every other week
Im not seeing the benchmark exercise option in the app any ideas?
Especially as much as KB at least here in the U.S is growing.@@fbombtehgr3at
I went crazy trying to find the benchmark option after watching this video. I finally found it. You have to first create a workout or load one from "find a workout" for the option "benchmark exercises" to appear.
Thank you
You got it! More videos coming out this month! Happy New Year
Thanks for the tips.
You bet! Thanks for the comment. keeps me going
