  • Review of the classic Macintosh game Shadowgate. This was probably the most popular of the MacVenture series. It was developed by ICOM Simulations, and released back in 1987 for the Macintosh 512k and up.

Update: We had figured out all of the secrets of this game and I will upload that video next! In the second part of this video I was contacted by another Shadowgate fan who had sent me a guide to get into the secret room in the waterfall. To clear up even more of the mysteries I also reached out to one of the original authors of Shadowgate to get more information about the secrets! Turn on your notifications so you don't miss that upload!

You couldn't own a Mac between 1986 - 1990 and not stumble upon these ICOM classics.

One thing I liked about the old black & white games, was that you can easily identify what everything is on the screen. Unlike some color games where the pixels are huge and shapes were vague, there is something about these 2-color games and being able to recognize what everything in the graphics were.

The MacVenture series were my favorite games back in the day. Uninvited was my all-time favorite from the series, with Shadowgate being a close second.

Probably the first commercial computer game I've ever played/owned.
I just watched Forbidden Planet for the first time and heard a scream used in this game, that was surreal.

Wait, so these were actually called "MacVenture"? The title screens for these games were called "AmigaVentures" on that machine's ports, too. I really liked their port of Deja Vu to the Amiga

I first played this on NES when I was 8. I didn't understand how to play it since I was only familiar with arcade-style games and scrollers. I gained more appreciation for it when I played the Apple IIGS version. By then, I understood how the interface worked.

They also made two games that continued the story ... Beyond Shadowgate for TurboGrafx-CD and Shadowgate 64 for Nintendo 64 ... one was a 2D adventure , the other a 3D RPG Adventure

I remember playing around on this game on some school computer when I was in grade school. I was far too young to figure anything out and it kind of scared me with all ot creepiness. I might have to try it again, I'd probably enjoy it now. I want to try Shadowgate 64 one of these days as well.
