**I'm not being compensated in any way for this video. Dave Marsh from Zojoi reached out and asked if I would be interested in covering it and I was provided with an early copy of the demo. I don't normally hype up a Kickstarter unless it's a project I'm just genuinely interested in and I have no financial stake in its success or failure. I do hope it does well because I just want to play a new Shadowgate game and that's pretty much it. Игры

Hello, Mr. Arcade, i just wanted to say that i really enjoy your channel, and im glad to see new content. You and Mort from Mort's Garage remind me so much of myself, i feel like im with good friends watching ur videos. Thank u
Nothing lights a fire under my ass like the sound of a torch running out.
When that music changes you'd best get serious son.
This is amazing news! My love for Shadowgate is what first brought me to your channel years ago. It had such a sense of wonder and discovery that was available in very few games. The soundtrack was excellent as well! Can't wait to play this.
Welcome back, sir. Good to see you back making content.
I was looking at the Kickstarter page of Beyond Shadowgate that I was stoked to see that they're going to give it an NES cartridge release. And a glow-in-the-dark cartridge? Oh hell yeah!
This sounds awesome! I can't wait to see all the deaths they included in such a massive adventure, once I beat one of them I always play a 100% deaths run, because they're all so clever and some are just frankly so weird, you have to see them to believe them!
Nice, I do the same thing with games like this or Space Quest ... Love going back and finding all the odd and usually funny ways to die :)
Hey, Aaron. Great to see you. Admittedly, I never ventured very far into the point-and-click adventure world beyond Monkey Island, but I love the concept of a sequel to a classic maintaining the design aesthetic of the original. Don't re-invent the wheel, just gimme some new rims and better tread! 😀
Never played shadowgate in my youth. But last week i downloaded it and began playing on my phone, out of the blue. I was thinking, if there was a second game, but no, there wasnt. What a coincidence to watch these news!
Missed you man please come back often you're channel is awesome
Damn I knew there was a channel I missed seeing in my sub feed. Welcome back, Aaron.
I just played some of the demo and while I was pondering on what to do with the puzzles suddenly I was dead like, "Wait what? How?" lol. I don't think I've ever seen an adventure game have this feature and I think it's innovate and awesome tbo. Allowing the option for the player to config though is a happy medium and I'm just happy to see Shadowgate finally get a proper, true sequel from the original developer's vision. Plus, kudos to you for pointing that out and Mr Marsh actually listening in order to make accommodations for various types other players. If only other developers were as considerate like Dave how much better the industry would be as a whole. Shout out to the new composer as well as it sounds inline with something Masuno Hiroyuki would done. I think he's still active and who knows..maybe he'd be willing to contribute some tracks for the project as well. Either way can't wait for the full release later this year and thanks to everyone involved and for you shedding light on this fantastic upcoming release! 😇
Aaron, good to see a new video from you! I hope all is well with you and your family.
Welcome back man! I missed your contents. I hope you will publish more stuff soon :)
Phenomenal video. So great to see you back!
YOUR ALIVE! Hope everything is going well for you and your family :D
This is exciting news as well, definitely looking forward to playing this.
Btw, awesome that you reached out and Dave heard you out on the timed event! A very fair middle ground for sure.
This is so cool! I had no idea this was a thing, so thank you for making me aware of it!
Also, as someone who teaches about video games, and teaches about accessibility in gaming, thank you for advocating for an alternative option for those timed events for players with disabilities. It is fantastic that you did that, and even more fantastic that they listened!
That death screen with the Grim Reaper I remember seeing as a small child and it scared the BEJESUS out of me
Glad to see you, friend! Hope the family is well!
Well done on fixing the timed events!
Where the heck have you been?? And don't blame it on your kids. Glad to see you back, buddy
Hell yeah to the both of you
Awesome! Good to see ya back man as well😎👍 Truth be told I skipped over these games as a kid (for one reason or another) but found a new respect for them because of your admiration for them!
Shadowgate on the Amiga was the very first adventure game I played thru to the end. My boss and I were both playing it at the same time and ended up stuck at the ssme place for awhile. We both started giving each other little hints, if one of us would get very far from the other. I finished the Uninvited as well, but never really got into Deja Vu.
Really glad you are back! I was wondering when a new episode would drop!
I'm glad you made that video, I just had to back the game on KS
Man thank you so much, I would have missed this news if not for your video
I got Beyond Shadowgate on the TG16 CD in late 93 (Still own it and the poster hangs on my wall) and I was obsessed with it. Highly underrated imo.
Hey Aaron, always great to see a new video from Friday Night Arcade!
Ready your torches.
Awesome! Shadowgate is in my top 10 of favorite NES games. Really excited they’re making a sequel. Glad to see this game getting some love again. Also… Welcome back! You’re one of my favorite channels on RUclips.
Glad to see you back. Another great video.
Nice! I'm in! Thanks for the heads up on this.
I'm continuing my streak of randomly deciding to play games...just to find out that there is new content arriving. Like my subconscious is aware. I've been playing retro games. Shadowgate was one of my favorites. I check to see if there are any newer versions. And....one is coming soon. Awesome!
Hello sir and welcome back! I'm always really happy when you post a video because I know it's gonna amazing. Cheers from Québec!
I keep shoving my money into the screen, but NOTHING HAPPENED!
I knew you’d be excited about this. I cant wait myself, this series of games is a childhood favorite of mine too.
Welcome back! Surprise video and surprise game. That was good feedback about accessibility. Really awesome that it was well received.
Now, THIS is something I can get behind! Glad there are physical representation! I really want to go back to the '80's when physical games were still a prominent thing.
This looks very promising. Cheers for the coverage and the great content (as always)!
Reason I liked Shadow gate was the charm of the music. Point and Click ain't my go to but always did like Shadowgate on NES.🙂
Love all 3 of these games still have em to this day
Great to see you back Aaron. I have become a backer for this because Shadowgate has always been one of my all time favs for the NES.
For games like shadowgate, it's all about that "feel" of the game. If you think the feel is just right, this is gonna be amazing.
Brother you are a legend.
Great to see a new video from you sir. I hope the kids are doing well?!!! I hope YOU have kept your sanity too. ;)
I just played the demo and was stuck for a bit at the coin beast. I had no idea you could lure an enemy out of their room.
Since the game is DRM free, it can be stored on different mediums anyway. So it's no big deal if a physical copy of the game is not included for the cartridge options. What i do hope, is that the game gets a physical Switch release in the future, that way it can be played in handheld mode.
Love original game. Man it's good to see you back!
Seeing that classic interface back but with mouse control is messing with muh brain meats.
**looks completely lost** Whuh... whuh I do?
**fumbles mouse in both hands like a controller** It no wurk, whuh do!?"
😂
I have a soft spot for Shadowgate, but I always hated having to continuously find and light torches to stay alive.
to this day... shadowgate on the nes has some of the most haunting music. for any game. even modern games. the game in the video looks like a high end SNES game. well, i mean the palette of colors any way. if its too big to release as an NES cart, i wonder if it could fit on an SNES cart? maybe the hardware is too limited? i play on PS5, so, i'd like to see a port of it there.
Like, comment, and share! We need this man back making videos!
This has me super excited! Shadowgate (NES) was my first introduction to First Person Adventure adventure.
FNA on Saturday!!!! This is the best way to start the day!
This actually excites me. Add in the fact that you were able to essentially convince them to give an option to play it the way we did back on the NES with having one turn to make a decision, that really gets my motor running. I can't wait to take a look at this
So excited for this!
It looks incredible! I am so excited for this game
Oh that's so cool.
I know I've played some version of that TG-16 game somewhere, I remember those early scenes. 🤔
The beginning of Lure of the Temptress looks very similar.
I loved that feeling of seeing this pop up in my sub feed. "A rare 'Saturday Morning Arcade?' This must be important!" I thought! 😃
This is awesome news! I'm super happy that the hard work of Graft Metal Games has been recognized - kinda reminds me of when Sega handed Sonic Mania to Christian Whitehead and Head Cannon Games based on his work with fangames like Sonic Nexus and Freedom Planet and doing updated ports of older titles like Sonic CD. When fans put in THAT much work, big companies should recognize them.
I love that this is happening! I'll support 'em for sure. Thanks for sharing the info, FNA!
Sweet! Shadowgate is one of my favorite things ever. I really enjoyed the remake from a few years back, too. Infested was great, too. Really looking forward to this!
Oh, man... I love these games! I'm the same, shadowgate was always my favorite. I never could beat those dang games though. I've tried going back several times throughout my life and I still have yet to complete them.
Can't wait to play the new one that I won't be able to beat, haha
Limited run needs to put this out
Beyond Shadowgate wasn't on the TG16, it was on the Turbo Duo. You can play Duo games on the TGCD with an System Card 3.0 upgrade kit, which runs for over half a grand by itself, but so does the game.
Anyway, the game is fantastic. I beat it a dozen times. There are a couple areas where it's difficult to realize you can travel up or down. The death animations are AWESOME!!!
I regret selling it to pay bills, but $500 was good money (also sold my Panzer Dragoon Saga at the same time for around that... ugh...).
Great video, I own SG64 and still have not beat it, but I can tell you it either has little or almost nothing to do with the Mac SG and is quite different. Though I do love some of its atmosphere, the graphics look lime that of a 3rd party N64 within the launch window of the console but it released in Q2 '99 lol
well this game looks amazing! Great new look with the classic feel!
Its hit some delays but its well worth the wait!
In this day and age where throwback noir stories are always big, true crime stuff is mega popular and theres not a lot of detective adventure games... someone could make a killing, I'd wager, if they were to start dropping games From the Files of Ace Harding.
I'd love it, personally.
Great news on two fronts: new FNA video and this game announcement. While I'm very impressed with the Steam remake, I'm happy to see this sequel being made. Good to see that the Kickstarter campaign is close to being funded. Great video, looking forward to this game. Cheers, Aaron! 🍻
I feel it's a missed opportunity not to have a physical console port as a stretch goal. I hope we get one eventually. In the meantime I backed it at the warden level to get the NES box and guide. Can't wait for this. Infested was a great fan game.
The Kickstarter looks to be doing exceptionally well so maybe they'll add it.. definitely let them know you're interested! In talking with Dave they were probably being cautious because they didn't know how much interest there would be in a sequel to a 35-year old game.
@@FridayNightArcade Understandable, plus look at stuff like Mighty No. 9 that just keep adding platform after platform and over promising... I can wait for one, I just hope it does happen eventually!
I think you're a little harsh on the "timed action" mechanic. Don't forget, one of the huge mechanics of the original Shadowgate was that you had to keep your torches lit and when they got low that terrifying music would play and you only had a minute to get them lit again! That actually made the entire game have a limited amount of time to beat it in. That mechanic was what made Shadowgate truly terrifying to me; I couldn't ever sit and think for too long or my torches would run out. I'm actually a little sad the music isn't as scary or intense in the demo when time is running short and death approaches.
Fair but in the original NES game it was still a turn based timed mechanic. You still had so many turns before the torch ran out. If you just sat there staring at the screen after that music played, nothing happened. Whereas in this one you've literally got about 5 seconds to react and enter a command before you die. It's not a terrible idea, I could just see it becoming really annoying as it gets later in the game. But that's just me - glad it will be optional for those that do want to play that way though.
I agree though nothing in the new game so far is quite as unnerving as that low torch music from the original :)
@@FridayNightArcade Holy... you just blew my mind. I actually thought the torches in the OG game were time-based. I didn't realize it was actions based. I must've just always freaked out and clicked stuff and died. That's a great point!!!
Love the look and sound. Master system graphics with NES music.
Need something like this on PSN
Now we just need sequels for Deja Vu and Uninvited.
Shadowgate VR on Quest 2 is amazing.
Would buy the new 12 bit version if they make a Switch physical.
Shadow Gate is a classic 😊😊😊
Thanks!
oh man the NES version scared the crap out of me as a kid
I was disapointed when i first played shadowgate, because based on the cover art, i thought it was gonna be a cool sidescroller.. but as i played, i really enjoyed it.
This looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing. I loved the NES original.
I just played the remake on Nintendo Switch. It was really nice, though I did miss the 8bit feel to the NES version. So let's hope Beyond Shadowgate comes out on the Switch as well.🤞
Beyond Shadowgate for the TG-CD was awesome...so much better than the original in every way.
GrahfMetal’s Spectacle and Infested are fantastic MacVenture style games, if a bit short. Definitely want to keep an eye on this Kickstarter!
I agree with you about the timed events - I also play these games as a way to relax, having all the time in the world to think about each situation. When I'm in the mood for a dexterity-based game, I play Zelda or Mario.
I hope this game eventually makes its way to the Nintendo Switch, along with Infested and Spectacle, because Shadowgate fans are mostly Nintendo fans!
Waiting the for the actual release date as well as what platform(s) it’s going to be released on.
Shadowgate 64 is worth playing. And that’s coming from a fan of the original ;) I think it was actually the first game I bought after I got my NES.
Oh man, this looks awesome! How can the two GrahfMetal games be played... Steam? I'll have to go check, as it's been a while since playing an old point and click adventure!
You can get em right off their website, I believe. Linked above :)
Hope it gets ported to the Nintendo Switch and PS5. I'm excited about this. Very cool.
Excellent.
The only way to perfect these games is to have a mouse work with it.
Now if they would just do Faxanadu. (I know, it's already part of a series, but it's the only entry I care about. If Final Fantasy can do it, I see no problem.)
It's more like a 16-bit sequel though, but yeah it looks great!
i whole heartedly agree that the way these 3 games were displayed and sounded is what made them so great.
I actually cant stand adventure games. Theyre usually really clunky, glitchy, and overly silly with their puzzles or tactics. But i love these 3, i own dejavu/shadowgate on the NES but unfortunately dont own Uninvited yet (MAN its pricy).
I saw what the Beyond Shadowgate was and was immensely sad that it followed the same annoying format other adventure games did, so i didnt feel any urge to try and emulate it to play it.
I found out about this true NES style sequel and IMMEDIATELY backed that crap. I normally avoid kickstarter video games like the plague as 99% of the time theyre peopel that think the only difficulty to making a game is funding and end up delivering a hyper-trashy game or not delivering even that.
Part of me is sad its not actually on the NES but i also know that would be a pretty stupid thing to do. Both because not many people have a NES anymore and it would be super easy to just rom-dump it and bam its in everyones emulator folder now.
I've been seriously considering trying to learn how to code on the NES for the fun of it and making a shadowgate type game was the first one to come to mind.
Did it get delayed or is it still coming in 2023? I am excited to play it but I couldn't find any official information.
Shadowgate 64 is fun😊
i missed the kickstarter. It just didn't line up for me. I wanted it so bad.
GUYS, 2024 is at the half point and the game still not out.
I know. Don't shoot the messenger - I'm not affiliated with them. Just a guy on RUclips. This happens a lot with these Kickstarters though. I think they get into it and then it ends up being more work than expected, plus they still have their regular day jobs. It's unfortunate, but I do trust that it will get released and will be awesome when it comes out.
@FridayNightArcade no worries man, all good , wishlisted it and waiting , and thank I for ur hard work .
Just pledged
Didn't you used to have a video on the game Starflight? Or am I remembering wrong?
I did, but it was not a very good video so I took it down and intend to redo it. Also have an LP of it on the side channel.
@@FridayNightArcade Ah, okay! I saw a copy on ebay and figured I'd go back and rewatch the video to get a sense of how the game was. I look forward to the remake!
@@SonofSethoitae
Here's a stream I did over on the side channel awhile back. I liked it!
ruclips.net/video/M4tH0Lnww-U/видео.html
I've long thought shadowgate style games would be good for smartphones. Of course maybe they exist and I just don't know.
Cool!!!
Have you played Daggerfall? Great game.
