Kyoshi prevented the Hundred year war from starting early for over two centuries. Respect.
However by doing that it ensured that the 100 year warcthat actually happened was far worse thanks to the technological advancements
@@username.exenotfound2943two centuries and possibly 6 generations of Fire Lords since the 100 year war had 3 generations of Firelords (Sozin, Azulon, Ozai)! Kyoshi lived 230 years (6 Firelord generations starting with Zoryu) and Roku lived 70 years (2 Fire lord generations, Sozin and his Father), so in total 300 years of keeping the Fire Nation at bay, then Sozin took 12 years to complete his plan and execute starting the War.
If anything she enabled it by giving Zoryu absolute power by helping the Firelord's clan in their authority.
Sozin's ambition didn't come out of thin air. Fire nationalism and ambition existed since the time of Kyoshi. She did nothing but enabled Zoryu by helping him. When I first read Zoryu and how socially awkward yet nice he was my brain immediately gave him Zuko’s voice. But as I read this conversation went on little by little his voice morphed in my head into that of Sozin.
That's amazing
These Fire Nation Royals, man!
When you read how Zoryu talks, acts, and behaves, it *screams* Zuko.
But that plot he put together to frame Chaejin and the Saowon clan is *exactly* the type of thing Azula would do!
That family is beyond fucked up!
They all came from his line.
"Let me make myself perfectly clear. You live on top of what I control. Your islands are surrounded by MY waves. You fill your very lungs at MY discretion. She overstepped. The avatar can't fully control other powerful spirits, like Tui and La (moon and ocean), Agni (fire), or Koh, so the threat falls through.
Also, last time I checkee the avatar is supposed to keep peace between the nations. Not kill them all by causing an environmental disaster.

Oh what fascinating relationships have existed between the avatar and the Fire Lord. Your videos make me want to reread the novels.
I haven't read the book, only this scene. But he kind of seems like the perfect fire lord. Pragmatic and Intelligent. Like according to Machevelli, he's the perfect prince. It's hard to be a saint in politics, especially as a monarch.
Yeah, he played it near perfectly. With a slight fault though. He didn't comfort her. If simply cup her cheek that simple gesture would have open the door to binding her loyalty closer to him.
When I went into Shadow Of Kyoshi I did not expect game of thrones to unfold with whole Cheajin and Zoryu Feud but it is glorious to see Zoryu FINALLY grow a pare we got A LOT OF WORLD BUILDING FOR FIRE NATION AND PAST AVATARS great book
we also got a lot of back story of why the spirits hate the avatar they always side with humans over the spirits causing them to become enraged
@wander1139, why should they unless the spirits locations are attacke spirits should grow a pair and stayed on their side.
Got to say, Zoyu is kinda right. People do not understand how unstable monarchies are. Hell in real life a single bad action could doom an entire line. Or a random servant could just stab you to death while you sleep. Which happened more then you would think in real life. Combine that with succession issues, unruly nobles, and the fact that no one enjoys being governed. It makes sense that he would want to punish those who attempted to destabilize the nation. As if you don't, the rule of law becomes pointless.
And rebellion can spring up at any moment and cause untold destruction. Prime example of this Is martin luther, a man who wanted to spark debate within the church. So when he posted the worlds most devastating posted note on the church door. He lit the europ into mass rebellion accidentally. Leading thousands to die for pretty much nothing.
In truth what he is doing is the right thing. As no mater what he dose their will be conflict. And if he shows any sign of weakness. he might wind up waking up to a knife in his throat just like so many monarchs did. As who is a fire lord but a simple man? a man that can die as easily as anyone else.
Sure, bootlicker.
All the more reasons monarchies shouldn't exist in the modern era. They're built to fail.
that's still no reason to kill an innocent man and an entire province.
Not to mention, his reign was in no danger whatsoever when his rivals already humbled and the Avatar had his back. He was in no urgent situation that would warrant him to kill people.
@@kaleidoscope3234 I suppose he was trying to solidify his rule at that point, by getting everyone united against a common enemy.
Otherwise what would happen when the Avatar leaves and his rivals regain their strength?
@@JakeBaldwin1 lucky for him this Avatar in particular stuck around long enough to watch over his grand children.

It is quite awesome to see a video on the depiction of The Shadow of Kyoshi chapter "Housecleaning", considering that it is the first one to depict a full chapter of illustrations accompanied with narration. The pacing of the illustrations with the narration is well done, as relevant sections of the illustrations align with the narration. The pacing helps with the expression of the descriptions and the thoughts of the characters.
It was nice to see illustrations of flashbacks to The Rise of Kyoshi as it added more context to the thoughts of Kyoshi. The flashback to the brutal lei tai that Kyoshi couldn't bear to look at as she nearly threw up back when she arrived in Huijang in "The Town" provides more insight onto Kyoshi's sense of justice as she leans towards mercy. The flashback to the moment where Kyoshi sprinkled fire lily petals onto Yun's face while he rested on her lap in a gifting room nine months prior to "Desperate Measures" provides an example of how connected Kyoshi feels towards Yun. It provides insight on why Kyoshi is so adamant on holding out hope for Yun throughout the story as she still remembers the positive experiences she had with him.
To be true, I never expected to see a depiction of the fire lilies scene from The Rise of Kyoshi, however, it was a pleasant surprise.
The illustrations of other chapters of The Shadow of Kyoshi also added more context to the thoughts of Kyoshi, especially in regards to her thoughts on Yun. Some examples include Yun holding Lu Beifong's body at the Royal Gallery at the Royal Fire Nation Palace and Yun stabbing Hei-Ran in the throat with an earthen spike. Both of these moments show the unhinged nature of Yun as he seems delighted when he commits atrocities out of vengeance.
The additional illustrations were quite nice, some examples including the depiction of the arrest of Chaejin and Huazo as well as the depiction of Koulin moments before she would be subject to the punishment Zoryu gave to the Saowon, execution for alleged treachery. The illustration of Hei-Ran putting her hand on the face of Rangi who is crying while the two of them are at Agna Q'ela after the events of The Rise of Kyoshi is emotional as both of them have suffered at the hands of Jianzhu and they had nearly lost each other. The illustration of earthen spikes stained with blood serves as a chilling reminder of how Yun was physically harmed by Jianzhu since he couldn't prove he was the Avatar and it signifies how he was on the receiving end of an abusive relationship with Jianzhu. The illustration of Kyoshi and Rangi alongside each other with daofei face paint in an area with a clear sky with their backs faced towards Yun, who is in a brown swampland, trying to reach out to Kyoshi as she the one closest to him, while Father Glowworm's tendrils are wrapped around him is heart-rending. The illustration is thematic as it shows Yun's desire to be the Avatar and have the support of his friends as he is clinging onto the past, whereas Kyoshi and Rangi are moving forward and not looking back, however, Kyoshi is slightly behind Rangi this suggests that she might struggle with moving on from the past. The illustration conveys that Yun is alone whereas Kyoshi and Rangi have each other, Yun's loneliness may have been a reason as to why Yun turned towards vengeance as he could have viewed his isolation as his abandonment at the hands of everyone.
Well said 👏

I've always thought that instead of "Legend of Korra" they should have used one of the earlier avatars like Kyoshi. It would have been a chance to start fresh while using the same world and history. With LoK, it was too close to Aang so all anyone cared about was what happened to the old characters. And as a result LoK is forever a reminder that it is not the Last Air Bender.
But that's the fandom's fault for not trying to appreciate The Legend of Korra as its own series, but as a sequal to Avatar The Last Airbender. And in a world were we didn't get TLoK, people would absolutely be asking for an Avatar story of what happened after Aang, just like how people do want to see the Avatar after Korra.
Id argue that Rise/Shadow of Kyoshi is made even better with the context of TLoK, such as the whole thing with the dark spirits, a water tribe Avatar struggling to live up to the legend of their Airbender Avatar predecessor, seeing the contrast of an Avatar who was denied their Avatarhood in contrast to one who made it their whole identity, etc.

Every season feels disjointed that you can watch every season without knowledge of others and it wouldn't matter, it feels like they are just trying one up each season and not create a coherent story. They should have just focused on the equalist then leave the spirit shenanigans to the next avatar.
Yes, I'm aware they were originally planning a single season but that's not an excuse for whatever season 2 is, they could have easily integrate equalist remnants or sympathetizers as villains the stake doesn't need to be over the top for it to be high, if you think about it aang only dealt with a warmonger.
