5:28 She looks a bit like Ty Lee doesn't she? 🤔 Great work everyone - this felt incredibly authentic!
Thank you so much! We’re huge fans of your channel, man! Means a lot coming from you.
@@Book4Airis this canon?
This particular story is made by us and is not canon to ATLA.
However we adapted it as an expansion of an existing canon story.
What existing canon story ?
“Relics”. It’s an official stand alone comic.
Hmm… remember the theory about Ty Lee being part Air nomad? Maybe we just met her great great great grandparents?
Totally! I love that particular theory.
Or just grandparents
But yeah I completely agree
Infact I was looking for a comment like this because of that
You do realize the whole story was a lie to lure airbenders into a trap right?
@@aaronfield7899You know… it was really unclear. 🤔
Well she certainly has her looks, these two could very well be her great great grandparents.
Ty Lee’s ancestors. You can not convince me otherwise.
100%
❤
You sound like a couple
Her family is wealthy after all.
I like the idea that not all the Air Benders were whipped out over night, one thing that needs to be considered is that the Air Benders are “Nomads” it’s possible some survived and were found and killed years later.
So kinda like Order 66 then?
@@giorgiobedolla yup, and like the rebellion vs the empire
@fazbrogaming7776 That's funny you mention that because I've been thinking about a special group of Fire Nation soldiers picked by Sozin for the purpose of hunting down and killing the airbenders that escaped the attacks on the temples. Kind of like the Inquisitors from Star Wars. Now I just need to come up with a name. Any suggestions?
@@giorgiobedolla “Sorchers” maybe?
@obiwancoolidge1828 Eh Sounds a bit basic. Good but basic. I'm talking about something that fits with the Fire Nation naming standards. For example-The Southern Raiders, the Rough Rhinos, etc
Design wise-they would wear armor that slightly resemble that of Hazmat suits with gas mask style helmets that make them resemble wraiths for intimidation purposes.
5:37 Aang casually turns over in his ice block sleeping soundly
This is now canon.
😅😂😂😂
You just made me cackle 🤣
I have to admitted this is a very romantic story between a fire bender and a air bender this deserves to be a animated short cartoon or movie and the theory of Ty Lee being a half air nomad and half fire nation deserves to be true, too.
Hanzo and Dulma are Ty Lee's (great) grandparents
She'd probably be more 1/4 to 1/8 air nomad ancestry really if those are her grandparents or great grandparents.
Hanzo is basically the only witness to the supposedly The Last Airbender, but it's not until Aang shows up 100 years later.
Sozin or Azulon did not realized Dulma was a secret airbender indeed.
it not canon you idiot
it not canon you idiot .
I can see a fleshed out version of Dulma's story being a hella sad one. Especially since she's pretty much the opposite of Aang. While Aang had grief over the loss of Gyatso and the rest of his people, He was able to get past that with the love of Katara and his friends. Dulma, before she met Hanzo, was pretty much alone. For all we know, she had to be constantly moving and never staying in one place for too long to avoid being found by the Fire Nation.
I also wouldn't be surprised if she had to break her ideals of pacifism at some point to defend herself against a group of firebender soldiers hunting her. A potential series could show her developing severe psychological damage to her mental health knowing that she betrayed her people's principles and teachings and now has blood on her hands that she can never wash away. No matter how much she tries.
The most glaring difference between these two is their reactions to the Air Nomad Genocide. While both of them are survivors of Sozin's horrific actions; Aang at the very least never had to witness it first hand and only saw the aftermath. It hurt but again, He at least had Suki, Zuko, Toph, Sokka, Momo, Appa and especially Katara to act as his new family.
Since Dulma told Hanzo that she mastered airbending but was unable to have her tattooing ceremony due to Sozin's initial strike; Its very likely that she witnessed the genocide herself. Imagine how horrifying and traumatizing that must have been for her; being forced to see the nuns that raised her, her fellow students, her friends all being wiped out by skull faced soldiers in blood red armor destroying her home.
I'd mention more but I dont want this to get too long. All I can say is that Dulma and Hanzo have potential to be genuinely interesting characters that I cant wait to see more of in the future
It’s sad though, Dulma would never be able to Airbend in plain sight again & air is the element of freedom.
Honestly Hanzo should’ve moved them to the most rural part of Fire Nation Colonies in the Earth Kingdom so there’d be less eyes around Dulma & less risk of her heritage being discovered.
And what if she & Hanzo had children & one of them or more was born an Airbender?
You know… you may be onto something! The writer did say we would find out the true story about Hanzo and Dulma, and that it isn’t as rosy and idealistic as the myth.
@@Book4Air i thought you said this story was,t canon .
If my theory is correct, that wouldn't happen. The rate at which bending occurs in a population correlates with how frequently benders die in attacks or in war. It's more or less inversely proportionate. Which is why the Air Nomads had a 100% bending rate, while the Earth Kingdom, which is huge, fractured and constantly at war somewhere, has the lowest bending rate. It's also why waterbending didn't return to the SWT for over 50 years. If benders are targeted for removal from the gene pool, bending will occur less and less frequently in the surviving population as a means of protecting them. If all benders are removed from a population, all subsequent children will be born non-benders for decades or longer. And when bending does return, it is highly unlikely that a firstborn will possess it. In the case of the EK and FN, firstborn males are the least likely to be benders because male benders are the most likely to be killed in battle before they have children of their own. If the firstborn is a non-bender, and the next child is a bender and gets killed for it, at least the bloodline survives in their older sibling. This idea perfectly explains Piandao, Sokka and Bumi II. Bumi in particular was born to not one but TWO survivors of genocides that targeted benders specifically. Even if he'd been a girl, he probably would still not have been a bender.
@@AtarahDerek interesting complex theory, although in the case of the Air Nomads their 💯% bender rate was officially explained as it being due to their high spirituality, which was enhanced in conjunction with their pacifist ways & environment.
@@sparxstreak02 But the occurrence of bending in particular characters contradicts that idea. It may be the prevailing theory in that world that more spiritual = more benders, and that's supported some by the fact that the EK is the least spiritual nation. But the truth is that more spiritual = more peaceful = less conflict that kills benders = more benders. Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that Piandao and Bumi were not born benders, yet Toph was? Or why isn't Hakoda a bender? His mother's generation is more spiritual than his. And the next generation was generally even less spiritual , yet they saw more waterbenders born than the previous generation did (assuming, as is likely, that Sura and Siku's parents are the same generation as Katara).
Finally, a GOOD fan made comic. You respected the lore of the series and created believable characters. Thank you
Thank you so much! I’ll pass that along to the writer (our Azula VA). It’ll mean a lot to her.
I always felt like Aang being the last airbender would be more like he was the last one in recent years/decades. I'm sure in the immediate time after the genocide there were survivors. This story was amazing! Thank you.
We agree with you!
Thank you so much for the kind words. 🤗
@@Book4Air Thank you so much for this wonderful story!
Symbolically I think this story makes a lot of sense. Air feeds fire and fire helps people live (when used proper). I love it!
This story makes use of a loophole in the story. Aang is not just the Last Airbender, but also the Avatar. Dulma is not an Avatar, so she would technically be the last exclusive Airbender.
I love that! Well said.
Also sense she lived and eventually died before Aang got thawed out he still gets to hold onto that title sense he was the last during that era
To be fair, Aang is the last Airbender known at that time
Well, by Aang's time, he is the last Airbender
Omg she looks exactly like Ty Lee! This is obviously her great great grandmother
Could be just a grandma
this has to be a few years after the genocide and both of them are young, so great grand parents is a bit of a stretch
@@jveematt2511It literally says 100 years ago, so it is likely a few months or so after the genocide. And since both are already adults, then it’s actually grandparents that would be a stretch. It would make more sense to be great grandparents or even great great grandparents if you want to push it. Unless they pulled a Sozin and had kids when they were very old which is possible for Hanzo (being a man) but not Dulma (cause menopause occurs in your late 40’s and early 50’s)… but many things on the ATLA timeline don’t make sense, so I could just suspend my disbelief…
So many talented people came together to make this original story feel like such an authentic experience!
Oh my gosh she has a special air bending technique she's better than Ang
Stories like this would explain the reason why some of the people in the earth kingdom got the ability to airbend in Korra. Some nomads got refuge and their abilities were dormant for some time.
Every air bender was not killed over night 💀… they were nomads they traveled the world… many had air ancestors and that’s why in korra they got their air bender back
Oh my gooooosshhhh that was incredible! This was a fully original story too, right? Just wow. The art is so amazing too. It feels really close to the comics’ artstyle. Also this story was just super wholesome. I like how it answers the commonly debated topic of what happened to all the airbenders (it’s just very unlikely every single one of them was truly wiped out.) I’ve always quite liked the fan theory of airbenders hiding amongst the other nations to protect themselves. And this comic brought that whole idea to life. I genuinely got emotional watching this, when Dulma said she’d rather die following her people’s traditions than become a monster like the Fire Nation portrait them as. Also that Hanzo thought that the airbenders tattoos were a connection to evil spirits. Just goes to show to the kind of indoctrination and misinformation the Fire Nation spread. I really love how you guys can so skillfully bring attention to such topics in lil details like that.
This was super awesome. Thank you guys for the hard work and passion
Your comments are always a highlight for me! Thank you! It’s so nice to see that what we worked hard to make came across the way we wanted it to, and that the message resonated with fellow fans.
Always love to have you here!
I don't think they just fell in love and got married all in one day. I think they spent at least a year together before they got serious.
You’re probably right! Our head writer said on a livestream that we would eventually find out the real story of Hanzo and Dulma, and that it isn’t as rosy and idealistic as the legend.
@@Book4Air I am very much looking forward to it
@@Book4Air let me know when it comes out
I know it said weeks later, that relationship moved awfully fast.
So shes actually the last airbender. while Anng frozen in ice. This is definitely Ty lees great great great grandparents which is why shes born in the fire nation. But balances out as an air bender. She fights like an airbender.
Hanzo x Dulma = OTP!!!
Hanzo x Dulma = ty Lee
God, now I REALLY want to know who wrote the script, who drew these pages (especially those from 0:00 to 1:15, omg, that looks so difficult to do O.O like guys this is the EXACT same style as the ATLA comics'), who voiced that, and even who the heck had such a brilliant idea for a story like that in the first place. Not only is all this great, but it also very much fits the original show and comics's style and themes. This is incredible, guys.
I should be able to answer those questions!
The script was written by our head writer and voice of Azula - Lucia Lobosvilla
The characters were all designed by Vago and she also drew the pages, though some of the line art and coloring was doing by other artists in our group (Sam Lee Wins, Kat Peterson, Melissa Palacios, Luan/Depre).
As for the voices:
Fire Captain - Grant Corvin
Hanzo - Christian Sekhanan
Dulma - Josephine Sweet
Storyteller - JJ Williams
The music for this portion was done by Aneesh Kashalikar.
Thank you for your incredibly kind words! I’ll pass them along to the team. 🤗
@@Book4Air Thanks ! Yes, pass the compliments along please.
So are you saying that none of you people actually work(ed) with the official Nickelodeon ATLA studios and comic writing and drawing team ? Like if so, I genuinely cannot understand how you managed the first pictures until 1:15 in the video. Like trust me, I know drawings and I can assure you this is the EXACT style used in Dark Horse ATLA comics. Those seen in the rest of the video aren't bad-looking at all, don't get me wrong, but it's just obvious they're not from the same artists. Like my chin is still on the floor right now. It makes me want to see some base sketches of this project or smth.
@@Cloudy-Wani664As far as I know, the only member of our team who has ever made anything official for ATLA or Nickelodeon is our head writer Lucia Lobosvilla who wrote ads for them and voiced Azula for those ads.
Not all of our artists have the same style, but they do their best to capture the Avatar art style! The particularly perfect ones are likely thanks to Vago, who designed these characters for this piece. She has a perfect grasp of the art style!
@@Book4Air Well indeed, this is impressive. Props to these 2 talented gals ! 👍
Damn, this is brilliant! This is genius! I really want more stories on these guys (their daily lives in the Fire Nation, the struggles of Dulma keeping her identity hidden and not being able to connect with her culture, the challenges of being a multicultural couple, and so on). A true treasure trove of possibilities.
Not to mention that maybe Dulma could have PTSD episodes of the genocide and Hanzo has to calm her down via holding her and reassuring her that she's safe; he won't let anything happen to her.
Remember how it was mentioned that Hanzo's father and grandfather partipated in the raids? I have a little headcanon that Dulma's master died fighting Hanzo's father who was likely either a captain or commander at the time. Imagine how she would feel having to meet the man who killed her master in front of her while also having to keep her true heritage hidden.
This feels more authentic. Then some Avatar stories told by the creators of Avatar well done.
Thank you very much! What a kind thing to say. 🤗
Our head writer who penned this story did write some official ATLA ads back in the day, and as far as I know she’s talked to some of the writers, so I think she really did her research!
If I get to see the original ideas for Season 4: Air that the creators had, even if they go against the comics/Korra, I'll die in peace.
This backs up the events of The Legend of Korra very well.
How so?
Yeah we should just name this Ty Lee’s family tree lol😂
I wonder if you’re right. 👀
Of course she's her ancestor.
That’s an incredible story.
There's no way they can tease us with this and they Not be Ty Lee's great great great grandparents!. And besides she's got her face and braid. If she weren't already a Kyoshi warrior she'd be a shoe in Air Acolyte.
It would be impossible to be great ³ grandparents
It would take 6 generations to be that
But in the 100 year war only 3-4 generations witnessed it
@@adude849 oh ok I suck at maths😅
It’s okay. So did the original show! They’ve had to retcon Azulon’s reign haha!
This story is so convincing for real

I love happy endings 😭❤
I now accept this us canon of Ty Lee being a airbender!!
Wow, that’s a good story
FINALLY BACK WITH ANOTHER BANGERRR❤❤❤❤
She told Hanzo the truth bout air nomads & he fell in love with her. Something better 6:53.
I always hope that there were surviving airbenders out there.
Definitely Ty lees origins
This makes me really curious about how the life/lives of any of their possible kid(s) would have played out. Especially if the kid(s) is born as an/are born as airbender(s), but knows nothing about Dulma's past/heritage, so that the fire nation won't find out about them.
It could be like a Mako/ Bolin situation where one sibling has fire bending and the other has airbending. That would be such an interesting household 😊
6:53 Don't close your eyes.
Something better...love❤❤❤.
It would be ironic that one of the descendants of the firelord's generals has airbender blood.
what if she was Ty Lee Ty Lin Ty Lat Ty Lao Ty Liu Ty Lum and Ty Woo’s great grandmother
She is of course
WE MET TY LEE PARENTS AWESOME!
“Wind Walker???” Damn and I thought “Snow Peasant” and “Ash Maker” were bad racism be willing in this universe! 😂😅
Or this could be Ty Lee’s parents instead great grandparents They mention Sozin in it and His descendants This is Ty Lee’s father meeting her Mother first time is Air bender and Air nomad Aang was not last of his people in this story series this guy with Hanzo is General Zhao arguing with him at Temple.
I kinda want more of them
not suspicious at all to wear something resembling air nation at her wedding xDD
Is this a fan story or a real story?either way it’s very good.

That's a really cute story😍 and I like the animation👌 I hope it's ok to ask but will we ever know what they needed to do if they got like airbender kids? Like imagine their kids trying to date. Dulma can't reveal her identity to her daughter or son inlaw and even her own inlaws. That must of been difficult. I am just really into the story and would like to hear what you maybe thought would happen😅
Thank you for your kind words! You bring up some very interesting questions.
The head writer (Lucia) said during a livestream that Hanzo and Dulma would be back, though the real story isn’t as idealistic and rosy as the legend.
At a convention panel, she also said we may have already met Hanzo in a previous episode.
Hopefully we get answers to your questions!
@@Book4Airhey so I just found your guy's channel a couple of weeks ago when this video dropped. Are you saying that this is like the fairytale version of the real story, and the realistic version of what happened is going to come out as its own series?
It won’t be its own series, but a reveal explored later in Book 4!
@@Book4Air it might seem off topic, but have you ever read Star Wars: Lost Stars by Claudia Gray? It's a Romeo and Juliet/star crossed lovers story that holds up well even if you aren't a Star Wars fan.

The only possible way that the airbenders could have been wiped out is if they were universally dumb enough to not ask for asylum in Ba Sing Se for some incomprehensible reason.
…or they asked and were refused?
Or the Fire Nation set up check points around Ba Sing Se to catch any Air Nomad refugees?
Or some did manage to sneak in and abandoned their culture to survive so no one knows?
Or Ba Sing Se also imprisoned them because they’re authoritarians themselves?
Who knows?
@@Book4Air Fire Nation took decades of warring and Iroh's leadership to even make it to the walls, they couldn't stop an airbender getting there even if they couldn't just fly.
Latter two are more realistic. Another choice would be the Northern Water Tribe, which the Fire Nation also couldn't break into.
Honestly there should be a bunch of random halfbreed airbenders popping up periodically throughout the world.
The first one is about it claiming asylum. You can’t sneak in and claim asylum. The Earth Kingdom can deny them. Sneaking in through the walls may be easy, but that doesn’t mean they’d be safe with the EK government if they snuck in illegally.
There very well may be several people with Air Nomad blood. But as we learned from the novels, airbenders can lose their bending as they lose their spirituality. So if they became separated from their culture, they’d eventually lose their bending.
So it could be there are people with Air Nomad ancestry who don’t even know it!
@@Book4Air They can fly right over any checkpoint the Fire Nation tried setting up, land on top of the outer wall, and ask for asylum. They could also do this with the Northern Water Tribe's big ice wall. I really doubt they'd just be kicked out of both, when both countries were at war with the Fire Nation.

2:10 that famous line, why😭
Ya know that the survivors fled into the other nations
Harmonic Convergence my butt
The Air Nomads are not that nomadic, aren't they? Living secluded from the rest of the world, forever searching spiritual enlightenment... I have an idea for a "canon" story: Dulma just finished her airbending training when the Northern Air Temple is attacked by the Fire Nation. It was there, during the attack, that Dulma meets Hanzo, and she gracefully avoids his aggressive attacks. When Dulma's master, Monk Tenma is being surrounded by Fire Nation soldiers, he tells Dulma to flee but she steadfastly refuses. Day turned to night as the fighting continued and all the monks who took part in the battle except Dulma are burned alive at the stake, as the burning example of those who dared to challenge the might of the Fire Nation. Heeding her master's order and with the heaviest of hearts, Dulma flees, where to she does not know, hoping this "journey" will lead her somewhere. As for Hanzo, he is determined to catch the supposed "last airbender" by himself, sending a letter to the Fire Lord expressing his wish. With it being granted by a Royal Decree, no one else but him is allowed to go after Dulma. Thus, the Path of Opposites begins. Great work, guys! Really loved this one!
