- Stompin' at the Savoy - Louis Armstrong
In this clip during a concert in Stuttgart Germany in 1959 Louis Armstrong features his drummer Danny Barcelona.
It was trombonist Trummy Young who inspired drummer Danny Barcelona to say aloha to his home in Hawaii and embark on a career as an international jazz artist. In 1957 he joined Louis' All Stars. Barcelona would remain with the group until 1971.
Highlights of the years with Satchmo included an African tour in the '60s, in which Barcelona's performance wowed Rhodesian drum masters. - Видеоклипы
With this performance, im proud to be a Filipino! Goodness! 😅
Anybody who ever had the tremendous privilege of playing, performing, or recording on any instrument or vocals with Louis is somebody worth knowing about and following. You had to be the absolute cream of the crop, top notch cat to be allowed to do so.
@Jaxtyn Marlon I don't care, and please don't use my comments to post irrelevant comments like this.
Louis had a big supply of fresh handkerchiefs under the grand piano lid, I was near the front row ,and I could see their reflections.
Holy Wipeout and beyond... this was a serious drum solo! Tear it up Danny Barcelona!
The great sound of Danny and Ludwig...a great double.
Both match grip and traditional.
Certainly up there with best.
Can't get more Classic American than that. Jazz - Ludwig - Louie Armstrong
He really makes those Ludwigs sing.
Great drummer....using both traditional and matched grip.
Discovered this clip through Danny Barcelona's wikipedia page. That solo and end was terrific. Much respect.
MOWO Media Yup, I’m also here because of that wiki page haha
MOST EXQUISITE RENDITION EVER NUFF SAID . . .
There's actually a better quality video up on DRUMMERWORLD that was put up a couple years ago! ruclips.net/video/CiesDcZVP_k/видео.html
Bravo! Cheers and whistles to the whole band. Real talent, real music, not like the modern junk we have today. Louis Armstrong is a legend.
Probably the most underrated , top drummer in history..
Unbelievable! Fabulous! Just goes to show us all that there are so many talented people out there... Shamefully, I've never heard of this guy... Why! He's LA's drummer, how much more famous can you get! I gotta see more of this guy on YT! Thank you ERWIGFILMS for posting this amazing video!
Hi Joseph, for some reason your comment didn't post live, I thought it was well said: Joseph Badger: "All of us "old timers" Buddy, Gene, Barrett, Louis, and so many more, remember when Danny took over for Barrett in 1958. He was a really great guy and, obviously, a very talented drummer. I used to tell my students that for every famous drummer they may admire, remember that there are thousands of others who are just as good. You just haven't seen them yet. My advice to them was always this: "stop trying to decide who is the best drummer and just consider all the great drummers as different flavors"! :)
Thank you Joseph! Well said! I just wish there were more of Danny's solos around! :) If you ever get a chance, please drop by and have a look at some of my own solos...ruclips.net/user/bangemout1127videos?view_as=subscriber

If you listen to Louis Armstrong records during the period Danny Barcelona was in Louis' band, you will hear Mr. Armstrong say his name a lot. 🙂
I saw louis in my last year of my national service in West Germany, I thought it was i n Dusseldorf .I think the ticket was about 5/-. (25p in new pence) I also saw Ella on a Norman Granze tour in Essen ,for the same money.
Fantastic drum solo
Without Louis Armstrong, there would be no jazz . . .
Man this is Beautiful!!!!!

Go, Danny, go!!!
Danny Barcelona!!
Back in the days of calf skin drum heads which were difficult to keep tuned, especially in un-air conditioned banquet halls.
Precisely. But to my ear a much warmer, more in-depth sound than the synthetics used today. Big Sid was known to take a minimum half-an-hour tuning his drums before a show.
Yup.
Wow this guy can really swing the band. What a great solo and I have never heard of him.just goes to show you how many great drummers are out there.
.
COB LUDWIG snare..?
Incomparably great ! Who is Gene Krupa ?
Sorry I didn't know about him during the 70's when he was a regular at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Danny Barcelona on drums?
1959 Liquor probably tasted better back then?
Stump at stuugart
Jackie Chan is great there with the drums
3:55 that one moment when you are supposed to be the main attraction but the Asian guy stole it from you
All pre-arranged by Louis and Danny before a concert. He did the same with Big Sid Catlett. At the Colored Waifs Home for Boys, where Louis was sent twice in his youth (at ages 9 and then 12) he came very close to studying drums with the Home's band instead of a wind instrument. He also worked out intricate trumpet/drums and dancing exchanges with Butter Beans and Suzie, and he loved stage-dancing himself.
Akro jimbos grand father lol
But, Akira is Japanese and was born in Japan. Danny Barcelona was Filipino-American and born in Hawaii.
Who was this drummer with Louis?
Was that Danny Barcelona?
That's what Louis said.
@@ezicarus8216 - he was from hawaii
Ghsfs lff de 5ýt😅
Way too much drum soloing,
Santi Foster Loved it myself, although I did think he was going to put a hole in his drums there at one point. 😁
