  • What is peripheral neuropathy? It’s a disease that affects the functioning of the nerves outside the brain and spine.
    The symptoms are as follows:
Burning sensation in hands and legs
    Numbness in hands and legs
    Crawling sensation
    Feeling a lack of strength
The symptoms occur in stages that gradually worsen in time.
Most of the time it occurs without any particular reason. It is mostly seen in one during their old age. In diabetic patients this is seen as diabetic neuropathy, where the blood sugar level isn’t controlled thereby it affects the nerves. In other cases, it is seen in alcoholic persons, those who have vitamin deficiency, cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy as a side effect, and those with HIV also happen to have this disease.
The treatment is done first by finding out the reason for the disease to occur. Through Nerve Conduction Study we can diagnose it by placing an electrode to nerves on each part of the body.
The medication can be given to those with vitamin deficiency and to control the numbness in the nerves. The response can only be seen gradually, so do not lose hope and stay healthy!
