Wanna here about a console that has had the most missed potential for games that would've fit perfectly? Well then, Wii have the perfect console for U.
I made a list of missed opportunities for the Wii U. Here: * Mario Paint/Artist sequel and/or remake that uses touch screen * Four Swords Adventures port/remake/sequel that uses online with voice chat and 3DS connectivity * Pokémon Snap Wii U that has a panoramic view using the Gamepad * Animal Crossing that features all menu information on the bottom screen while, making for a the most comfortable Animal Crossing experience on a home console * Kid Icarus Uprising port/remake that uses the touch screen, the wii pointer and nunchuck, dual analog, and maybe 3DS as controller options * Metroid Prime that features a first person view on the TV and 3rd person on Gamepad and the ability to swap views * Wario Ware that not only uses the Gamepad’s unique touch, gyro, buttons, asymmetric TV view, camera(?), and microphone features, but can sometimes combine it with the Wii remote * A Zelda game similar to Phantom Hourglass and/or Spirit Tracks that’s either a remake or a sequel with similar gameplay elements
I thought Scott was gonna point it out when Fever was on screen, but. Why the absolute frick wasn't Rhythm Heaven Megamix ported?! It would have been a great cross-platform release with the 3DS, and taking advantage of the gamepad would be making a no visuals mode which is *just* the gamepad that shows your timing and skill stars. It would be a great way to practice no visual gameplay! And not to mention that it would be a fantastic family game, it already *has* competitive multiplayer, being able to play on one console would make the whole "Get your family and friends into music!" shtick fantastic!
So the thing with spinoffs being on other consoles is due to contract obligations and IP rights. Destiny 2 was on PC and XBOX, but for a time but they still had to pay lip service to Sony due to obligations they had (i.e exclusive content). This sort of obligation kind of works the same way at the franchise level. Like sure, you might get Persona Strikers on Xbox, but if you want the full Persona experience, you're gonna have to buy a Playstation. That's why it 'works'. ...It also made me realize you should NEVER make a deal with Sony.
The Gamepad could have been, and was, great for asynchronous multiplayer experiences. Honestly, I'm surprised they never tried to replicate this with the Switch online app at all.
11:18 I think the structure of moons in odyssey also works well with the switch because you can hop on, grab a few quick moons, and then be done. The lands are so large you don’t feel pushed to finish it all in one sitting
Hear me out: when you capture an enemy in odyssey wii u, you see that enemy's vision on the gamepad. When you capture a bullet bill, you see a hud lookin thing. When you capture things without eyes, the gamepad has a fully black screen. When you capture those plant things with red eyes, the screen tints red.
Love it but for the eyeless things, instead of a black screen, the screen shows some sort of "alternate sense" like the different vision modes for Predators in Alien vs Predator games or Daredevil's "sound vision". Obviously, nothing quite as "intense" as those but something fun and Nintendo-y, like in some of the Raving Rabids minigames where you had to find a hidden thing (or avoid it) by listening to how loud the sounds coming out of the Wiimote's speakers or just look to some of the WarioWare microgames for inspirations.
I remember seeing the idea of a tabletop RPG exclusive to Wii U, where the Dungeon Master sees all their hidden knowledge and choices on the Gamepad, and the party plays on the TV. What a shame...
Etrian Odyssey series on DS/3DS is my pick for a series that is most appropriate for the system it is on. The mapmaking with the touch screen is so amazing. Honestly.
This reminds of an idea I had for a game in a universe where Nintendo kept Rare. It's a Kazooie only spin-off game of Banjo-Kazooie for the Wii that kinda worked like a top down twin stick shooter. You'd move Kazooie with the Nunchuck and aim 'n' shoot different types of eggs with the Wiimote.
Sounds cool. Kind of reminds me of the Sparx levels in Spyro but different enough Kazooie abilities or like the Banjo first person shooter moments (never played or know the context but always looked cool) using Kazooie but top down/isometric.
The WiiU was one of the best concepts with the worst support. Nintendo was desperate to get new 3rd party titles on there. When I was a freshman I applied for their developer program and got in within a day with no questions asked and given the Unity WiiU api. I didn't do too much since it cost like 1200 dollars for a dev kit but it was cool to see how unreal and unity games communicated with the system.
i’ve always seen on rails shooters as arcade games, but like modern ones that you see in bowling alleys or shopping malls because if you’ve been to game works or Dave and Buster, some of the funnest games are on rail shooters
Same. Though playing The Club a more arcade level design and enemy AI but modern controlling shooter (published by Sega but made by the team that made Project Gotham Racing a bunch of arcade racer Devs) it is always interesting seeing modern and arcade elements cross over sometimes but whether to see them as arcade or not hmm. I mean later Burnout games don't have the timer but the old ones are straight up arcade with the timers. So modern arcade games it's a wonder sometimes. It's why I don't question the Dead Space Extraction or Medal of Honor Heroes 2 (arcade light gun style mode) being more arcade focused or a mode for arcade aspects to suit the Wiimote as a rail shooter/light gun shooter. I think Tank Tank Tank is a fair arcade game but on Wii U and didn't do much with the Gamepad really. It's fine but for the multiplayer the singleplayer the second screen isn't worth it and the tilting of gyro is left and right not up or down when your a tank so why no up and down aim. Logic there Namco. It's no Steel Battalion on Xbox or Kinect that's for sure. Kinect or big controller the big controller makes more sense then Kinect to try and change that I think but Capcom tried Scott could do this video type again and add Steel Battalion or other games, maybe but as he only did the Kinect one and not the OG Xbox version might have to wait on that one.
Simple, the DS had an "analogue stick" AKA its touchscreen. I have replaced so many damn screen protectors over the years trying to play COD, Metroid, and that one james bond game.

Yeah, if only Nintendo could figure out how to handle that newfangled dual screen thingy. It's not like they already released the GameCube/GBA link cable, DS, and 3DS or anything like that...
There’s no need to justify it. The Wii U was a great console, unfortunately second only to the Vita for unloved-child syndrome dragging it into an early grave. (At least the Vita had legions of fans and indie developers dragging it back out.)
10:59 Fun Fact: Nintendo experimented with the idea of 3D World connecting to 3D TV's in someway, but opted against when they realised 3D glasses would be needed (thanks DYKG!) Also, that rant at the end was legendary!
I've never played an FPS on a Wiimote that really felt right, because I always figured something like that would actually be the superior control format for the genre. If for no other fact that the fact you don't have to invert it. Inverters, non-inverters, and whicheverers can all use the Wiimote intuitively as an FPS controller.
Apparently Scott has never heard of half life alyx, or myst, or, uh, ok there aren't that many examples but still Edit: oh shit he mentioned it in the video

I disagree. There was just no benefit to owning a wii over any other console. I mean, there were some good first party games, but no must have game until breath of the wild. And by that time the switch was out.
Not misunderstood. Misused.
Gamecube/GBA link cable, DS, 3DS: exist and justified dual-screen gaming.
Nintendo with the Wii U: What the heck am I supposed to do with this newfangled second screen?
Alt Alt Title: Wii U: Nintendo's Best Console no one cares about
The Wii U and PS Vita are the absolute definition of wasted potential

When Scott finally acknowledges Mad World for the Wii, I'm satisfied.

"It's like it's not good, right in front of me." Best line Scott
Everyone's talking about Scott talking about the Wii U and I'm just sitting here trying to put in a Little Caesars order for a deep dish olive-only pizza
gross.
I literally just had some little caesars before watching this.
I like olives and I have even had pizza with olive oil rather than sauce, but I'd say that pizza would be better with cheese. It's just not pizza without cheese in my opinion. Sure olives and bread are fine when alone together, but cheese .. I cannot forsake my love cheese.
Isn’t that just Focaccia?

@@JamesLawner in Italy focaccia is basically bread.
Wanna here about a console that has had the most missed potential for games that would've fit perfectly? Well then, Wii have the perfect console for U.
I made a list of missed opportunities for the Wii U. Here:
* Mario Paint/Artist sequel and/or remake that uses touch screen
* Four Swords Adventures port/remake/sequel that uses online with voice chat and 3DS connectivity
* Pokémon Snap Wii U that has a panoramic view using the Gamepad
* Animal Crossing that features all menu information on the bottom screen while, making for a the most comfortable Animal Crossing experience on a home console
* Kid Icarus Uprising port/remake that uses the touch screen, the wii pointer and nunchuck, dual analog, and maybe 3DS as controller options
* Metroid Prime that features a first person view on the TV and 3rd person on Gamepad and the ability to swap views
* Wario Ware that not only uses the Gamepad’s unique touch, gyro, buttons, asymmetric TV view, camera(?), and microphone features, but can sometimes combine it with the Wii remote
* A Zelda game similar to Phantom Hourglass and/or Spirit Tracks that’s either a remake or a sequel with similar gameplay elements
**Blinks** *:)*

Ever forget it’s a Sunday then get a Scott the Woz notification?… it’s something dreams are made of.
This was me lol
Me too

The Gamepad could have been, and was, great for asynchronous multiplayer experiences. Honestly, I'm surprised they never tried to replicate this with the Switch online app at all.
You mean "asymmetrical"?
11:18 I think the structure of moons in odyssey also works well with the switch because you can hop on, grab a few quick moons, and then be done. The lands are so large you don’t feel pushed to finish it all in one sitting
No joke that was literally the design philosophy that the developers were going for
sadly that screen talking about the control methods that comes when you boot up the game takes way too long
The world is a better place when Scott uploads
@@Dargonhuman they would use echo-location like sonar, black background and waves representing noises around it
Im suprised that he didnt say that kid icarus uprising would've been perfect for the wii u as a port

Honestly.
"Why the WiiU is actually okay in 19 minutes or less"
Everyone: I'm so glad they remake FF7 for the Playstation
Scott: But Wii U
Scott the Woz on RUclips: "the wii u is great!"
Scott the Woz outside of RUclips: "the wii u is great!"
You should rename this video to “why isn’t every game ever made on the Wii U?”
Just imagine if Scott didn't start the video with *"Hey All, Scott Here!"* this time...
When that happens, the world will end...

i’ve always seen on rails shooters as arcade games, but like modern ones that you see in bowling alleys or shopping malls because if you’ve been to game works or Dave and Buster, some of the funnest games are on rail shooters
Kinect or big controller the big controller makes more sense then Kinect to try and change that I think but Capcom tried
Scott could do this video type again and add Steel Battalion or other games, maybe but as he only did the Kinect one and not the OG Xbox version might have to wait on that one.
Alternate Title: Nintendo wasting the potential of the Wii U Gamepad
"Punch out on the 3ds" How about another punch out game.

Man if Scott worked at Nintendo, he would’ve single handedly saved the Wii U, but nope, he would rather rant about justifying his purchase of it 10 years later
To be fair he would have been only 15 when it launched
You mean justifying his MULTIPLE purchases of it
Yeah, if only Nintendo could figure out how to handle that newfangled dual screen thingy.
I’m so glad this man is trending so well. He deserves it greatly, and I am so glad it’s happening.
