The woman literally said, she'd abandon you if her plans didn't change and you're like 100% okay with that? Christ this is like the mother of all Simping. If the B support was like "okay i need to process that" And the A was like "okay you did that but I forgive you and will still be loyal to you" I would've been fine but to literally be fine with someone knowing the fact that you will die and her being completely okay with that is just.... Bruh.
These aren't mutually exclusive. She always cared, and while she accepted Monica as a sacrifice for her ambition, it doesn't mean it didn't hurt her utterly to do so. Saving Monica was both a strategic move and driven by emotion. These two motivations don't cancel, they coexist.

The second she could do so she did, even when the plan was half formed. She wants Monica to be upset with her because she feels bad that she was willing to sacrifice Monica. It never meant that she didn't care about her. Monica was never a tool she would casually use and toss at her convenience, none of her allies are. She was an unfortunate loss that in 3H had no opportunity to be averted.

Now we know that the true reason people found Monica’s behavior weird in 3 Houses when Kronya replaced her is due to her no longer fangirling over Edelgard every time she breathes lmao It’s a bit of a shame that the new playable BE character just ended up as Cyril 2.0 but with Edelgard, but at least Monica is dorky and entertaining enough that it doesn’t wear out its welcome like it did for me with Cyril. That and I also found her to basically be a female foil to Hubert, who is also clearly obsessed with Edelgard but is much less outward about it than Monica is due to keeping his true feelings guarded a majority of the time. Whereas Monica is (for better or for worse) literally an open book.
It also helps that if you were to describe Monica without bringing up Edelgard, you totally could since there are other aspects to Monica such as her serving as essentially the team logistician/analyst and fangirling over Dorothea, plus not being as cold blooded as Hubert. Whereas with someone like Faye from Echoes, despite not playing that game, my understanding is that you can't do the same with her.
Hubert is an actual character though. He is pragmatic, has trust issues, isn't afraid of going against Edelgard's wishes (both openly and secretly) and as we learn in Hopes, he doesn't want to put his family in danger so he shuts up about it. Monica is just lgbt pandering, which is dissapointing since she is one of the game's biggest selling points

She’s extroverted and playful to mirror Hubert’s more introverted and subdued personality, as well as having a photographic memory, is studious and analytical as she’s basically the Black Eagles’s tactician, doesn’t want to see those she cares about besides Edelgard get hurt as revealed in her supports with Dorothea, and being self-sacrificing and devoted enough that she straight-up tells Edelgard that she would’ve been fine with being sacrificed if her original plan went awry. Which’s exactly what happens in Three Houses. Calling her LGBT pandering is also a bit of a stretch since she just happens to be obsessed with a character who is a woman, since you could change Edelgard’s gender and still have her character remain the same.
Theory Timeline At some point, Monica is included in some sort of danger that affects a wide amount of Empire citizens. Edelgard solves the problem, and a young Monica, already engrained in the concept of serving the crown loyally, begins to fall in love with and/or see Edelgard as everything a princess should be. It remains at a healthy state up until she is kidnapped and rescued. With Edelgard herself deployed as a unit and therefore one of the leaders of the rescue, her admiration begins to rapidly grow into some kind of obsession. It doesn’t help that Hubert is already Edelgard’s right hand man, keeping Monica from feeling truly fufilled and her debt repaid.
Faye is still more obsessed. At least Monica looks up to Dorothea and respects some others. Faye treated Silque like trash until Alm rejected Faye. Faye spent her childhood talking about Alm's marriage too.

Why do they keep writing characters like this? She doesn't have the Saturday morning cartoon villain vibes Hubert gives off which can make him entertaining at times. And I wasn't a huge fan of him either. (though he is better in this game.) Hell Faye did more with her character and she only got two rather short supports.

Of all the avenues they decided to go with for Monica, they decided to have her emulate one of the worst characters in Echoes for her personality
