  • Today we work on the 1980 F-350 service truck. Specifically we are pulling the old, worn out 400CI smog motor along with the C6 transmission. While making a mess. We will be replacing it with a 1986 460CI big block in upcoming episodes. I was fortunate to have the donor motor come with the factory 460 perches, engine oil cooler, and A/C. So we will take the 400 perches off, and swap them with the 460's perches at the end of this episode. Rather low key but we lay the groundwork for a much better power-plant.
    Will it Start for this truck:

    Should be a nice truck with the 460. While you have the engine out, you should get some dollar-store oven cleaner and degrease the engine bay some more. “L.A.’s Totally Awesome” all purpose cleaner works good on painted surfaces and plastic with a little brushing. I’d wire-wheel the frame/suspension and hit it with rustoleum to protect from corrosion. Probably a good time to check your front end bushings too while everything is exposed. I look forward to the next episode!

    I've always been a bull nose fan. Trying to find one, but they're always really rusty or beat up. Can't wait to see how the progress on the engine swap goes! 🔧

    I could never make a Tube vidya of me working on vehicles. Too much cursing and throwing shit and violence to inanimate objects close to work area. My dad after retiring from 25yrs in Army became a farmer/rancher and bought old used auction equipment we had to work on constantly to use so I was taught by the best!! Love yer vidyas!

    Very wise to refresh the 460 while it’s out. The bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds to the heads are notorious for busting and causing exhaust leaks. If you can it’d be an excellent time to put some grade 8 bolts in.

    Hi Chris! I understand you want to graduate to the big block, and I get you don't have an interest in enduring the self-harm necessary to breathe life back into it, but if one wanted to rebuild it would it be viable?

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  Год назад +1

      The old original 400 cu in engine would be viable to rebuild. However I had the opportunity to put a low milage used 460 cu in which more parts are available for it at about the same cost.
