I'm a new subscriber. I enjoy watching your videos. I love the old Ford stuff too. It's so simple to work on. But I don't agree about the front clip. The front clips are so easy to pull off these trucks. You can even leave the hoods on them. I always pull the front clip if the truck is a 6 cylinder or big block. It just makes it so much easier to pull. The old FE engines are a whole lot of weight. I'd rather have to lift the engine only a foot or so instead of 5 or 6 feet. I've pulled enough of them that I've got to experience chains breaking, the hoist failing or tipping over. Nothing gives you a "Oh crap" moment like a big ol FE V8 hanging 6 feet in the air and then it comes crashing to the ground. It may take a little more time but makes the job even easier. Plus it also makes cleaning/painting the front of the frame easy too ( if a full restore isn't being done ) .
I've been following your progress on this truck. Just got to say, keep up the good work and thanks for going into detail with everything you're doing. It's amazing how much easier these old trucks are to work on. That's the fun in owning one. Thanks again for showing us your work and helping us out for when we go to do our own projects.
Did that when I was a senior in high school in 1980...all I had was a set of S-K open/closed in wrenches, 1/2” drive ratchet, breaker bar and socket set. A dirt floor and a chain hoist hanging from the beam of my Dads shop on the farm. Fun project!!!
Hey I'm following your video after years of procrastinating about doing my own work. Always been an aspiration of mine since high school (now 60). I have a 78 F150 2WD. The video is spot on except my clutch is different or you edited out removing the spring. Anyway Kudos to you. This inspired me to pull my engine and it worked! Thanks and keep them coming.
Awesome. Are those chains attached to bolts that are in holes designed to be used for hoisting the engine out or did you just use whatever holes you could find? Can’t wait to see that tired old 360 get transformed!
I put one through a bolt into the front of the drivers side head and the other under the rear-most intake manifold bolt on the passenger side. Pulls it out with the trans hanging down for easy removal
Im about to get into a 76 f150 4x4 and do the same. Im assuming that with the extra length of a transfer case I'll likely have more problems clearing the front clip.
I heard you say in another video your going to eventually do the crown vic front suspension are you going to keep the older carburetor engine in it or are you going to a modern engine. Reason I'm asking cause I didnt know if the new suspension would interfere with the old style motor oil pan.
I am planning to upgrade to a more modern engine. I haven't looked into putting a big block over the crown vic front end. The crown vic front end is pretty deep, I would imagine it would allow you to put almost anything in there without to much trouble
Just bought a 1977 F100 with a 351 Windsor ... Have never worked on an old car before but consider myself decently handy. It runs good but I'm getting some oil leaking when parked. I'd also love to clean up the drivetrain and engine bay to make it look new again. Would I be a fool to pull the thing as my first "major project" on this truck?
No, you should absolutely pull it. You can make some really good power with the 351. If you brought the compression up a little and put a small cam in it, I think you would be amazed at how much performance you get out of it, and how much more fun it is to drive!! Make a video when you pull it out!
I have to rebuild my 390 fe. I threw a rod, and the block needs replaced. Would you suggest pulling the transmission with the engine, or just leaving it attached to the truck?
I'd pull the transmission with the engine. Its a PAIN to get the motor to stab back to the transmission (if its a manual) with the transmission still in the truck
I couldn't get mine out like this. I had to take the front clip off in my video. My engine is a 429 big block and wouldn't get over the front with my engine hoist.

1971 Ford F100 (302/C4) was the first engine I ever removed and helped rebuild. This video brings back memories of working with my dad!

How long did the process take to completely pull the motor? Hard to guess with the time lapse. Awesome video! Can’t thank you enough!
It comes out in about an hour, its very straight forward to pull the whole engine and transmission together.
I am putting my 360 with c6 in my truck. Can you put the motor in with the alternator and the power steering on the motor?

Why did you remove it?
Start a rebuild to a warmed up 390.. clean up the engine bay a little... then make a trip back to the dyno to see if it was worth it
