The other teams needed chaos before/on the climb for them to have had any chance at beating Pog. As soon as he entered at the front it was a foregone conclusion.
6375 is his total yearly points (ie. from this time last year untill now). His UCI points this year come to 3518. Still impressive. This would make him the 14th ranked team on his own (above Bora and under Movistar).
It will be interesting to see what effect all these classics have on his TdF performance. Relatively unprecedented (I think) for such a dominant GC rider in the current era to also dominate all these classics. UAE look a better a team this year too
🔀Would’ve been fun to see how it would’ve played out if Bardet’s first attempt hadn’t ended with an uphill brake check. Not Mike Woods’ fault at all, just would’ve been more interesting.
A nice winner for the records of this race ! Everyboddy who knows sommething about cycling knew pogacar was the man to beat ! He is just a worldclass rider ! And he even have lots of time to make progress. Maybe remco commes the most close to pogacar, he is also a worldclass rider . Vingegaard won the tour because the backup he had from his whole team. Pogacar have learned from the tour of 2022. He will not make the same mistakes annymore ;-) .
Small crash at San Remo, and a more significant one with that ridiculous Maciejuk crash at Flanders. Also he got wiped out pretty hard in that crosswind crash in Strade Bianche 2022. So no, not immune to crashes, but he's a slippery sumbitch and always seems to come out relatively unscathed.
I wondered where he was in the crash - but he's either blessed from the heavens or has some ether real sixth sense coupled with so cool as ice bike handling.
Up until the last 200-300 meters when everyone is out of saddle, Pogacar is upfront seated. Then when he kicks, no one can answer. Vollering was exactly the same.
Great Content as always! LR really got me into watching cycling. As a Non-english native I struggle with some of the words you use in the podcast sometimes. So as a public service, would you mind explaining the following phrases: -flase flat -fake news climb -echelons -"shas patat"😅 (I can tell what it means from context but how is it spelled?) Thank you Patrick and Benji!Keep up the great work!
False flat refers to a gradual uphill road usually around 1-2% Fake news climb means a climb is insignificant compared to what it may seam Echelon refers to the groups that form in crosswinds Don't know what the last one means. Hope this helps.
@@Dqoi I would consider fake news climbs to be a climb where the average gradient (say 6%) hides the fact that there are some very steep sections and some shallower sections. So the climb is much harder to ride than the avg % would suggest. Echelons are a diagonal formation of riders caused by trying to stay in the draft in crosswinds. These are significant because the width of the road limits how many people can get draft in an echelon, so splits can form. Finally, a “chasse patate” is a French slang term (translates to: chasing potatoes) that basically means a pointless chase, i.e. when someone is trying to catch a group ahead but gets stuck dangling behind that group.
I felt Mas would be more competitive than Landa, considering he beat Pog at Giro dell'Emilia last year and matched him almost till the finish of Il Lombardia as well as a couple of the uphill finishes at Vuelta Andalucia.
Sooooooo.... what was that you told Benji in the Amstel Gold podcast about Pog in this race? "Starts or doesn't. Same outcome?" He defied expectations again! (And I'm not even a Pog fanboy.)
pogacar looking untouchable the closer we get to the grand tours, almost perfect start to the 1st half of the season, not many i can say or see who could challenge him consistently at the moment, unless they are holding back for the tours, but i'm an ex pro elite & you have to test the waters as it were in order to gauge your own form against the stronger riders,
I think his position was partly because of his pacing strategy - had he been further in front of the field earlier, he might not have lasted to the line. Just a guess from me ofc, and probably yes he could have had even better positioning and pacing too.
Beautiful change in strategy. Everyone expecting Pog to go long so pushing their numbers and trying to stay right in front to defend. They burn matches while Pogacar cools his heels back at wheel 20 to 50. TDF is going to have much more closely matched teams this year. Without Roglic, it's going to be tough for Jonas.
And now the big question: who will take second place tomorrow in Liege? 😂No in all fairness, should be a great battle between Remco and Tadej. Two of the absolute biggest names in cycling today, one of the only few races they are racing head to head this season. Going to watch all day.
Is it just me who are suspecious. Some riders winning everything and winning in style like in the old doping days. In Roubaix they were almost an hour faster than before. I think its crazy.
Saw a video just a couple days ago about how Pog drastically changes his bike setup almost every race, depending on what the specific race demands. So if you saw that, very possible.
Pogacar with a full team looks good at evens for tour de france? Been doing double bets with him non stop for months. As long as his team and him stays fit and he doesn't have significant crash can't see him not winning tour. Last year no team second week and a misguided solo push on a super hot day lead to him blowing up... Don't see that happening again unless he is pushed to his limit on the wheel of vingegaard.. Thoughts??
I also expected Pogacar to have the advantage this Tour, but after seeing the values Vingegaard pushed in Basque on even short climbs, I am not so certain anymore. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
Have not watched vingaard this year but pog is looking great , as well as a solid team . I'm sure these classics will not effect pog tdf chances he will rest plenty in between. Vingaard or pog no one else around . I'm going for pog this year with better team support to give him the win . He is tge best rider I have watched , he makes his own luck
Crazy how the others were all out of the saddle whilst Pog was just sitting there and did it so easily in the end. No contest. But yes, UAE did a great job controlling the race to make the result inevitable.
Worry that Pogacar has hit the classics so hard this season so that if he doesn’t win the Tour again he has a cushion to say the year was still a success. Obv this is a generational year, but while he’s doing “short climbs” Jonas has a 2mth advantage on pure Tour prep
I don’t think he’s winning to play off a potential tour loss, winning all of the classics and one day races and still winning grand tours will put him in serious contention for goat status, he’s trying to build that legacy and you can’t just do that by winning the tour every year
weak field today and nobody seems to have the guts to attack UAE today we got pro riders in 2nd and 3rd place in today's race who are basically admitting in post-race interview that they were not going for a 1st place!!!
If I timed it correctly (don't exactly know when the timing normally starts), it was a pretty slow climb up the mur, more than 20" slower than the record. Again, I might have started timing too early, I am not sure. Can't find anywhere else the time for this year. Also the gaps this year for top 10 where the closest since 2016. So a nice performance of Pogacar, but nothing dominant either. A good Roglic, Alaphilippe, even Teuns would have likely beaten him.

One worst the worst line up in Ardennes Classics this time . Not a great era in matter of show, one dude who win everything even Cobbles Classics it's pretty suspicious. I had this feeling with UAE or Bahrain since have been founded that at one point they will " create" monsters.

I guess it's the classic I never really watch for that reason, I can get all the important parts in a 5m summary.
I fell asleep with 50km to go
Im so lucky i accidentaly tuned in at the base of the last mur

Pog's shoulders when he goes have to one of the great movements in sport at the moment. Like watching Bolt ease up and smile at the line.
