Former teacher and test prep coach here - knowing what's important versus what is interesting is based on main ideas and details. In history, especially APUSH, organizing your thoughts in your notes a little further can be helpful. Textbooks are organized with main ideas on top and bottom with facts and details sandwiched in between. Considering DBQ style questioning, add some of your own critical thinking/thought synthesis.

All my math homework is online so I never have to turn stuff in so I end up working out all the problems on pieces of paper, and I've already used up a lot of paper, but after hearing what you do I went out today and got myself an 11 by 17 inch white board and I ended up loving it, I dont feel bad about wasting all those papers anymore! It's also just fun to write on white boards

I struggle with this too. I always get scared that I am leaving important details out because I haven’t learned the material, so it is hard for me to discern was is useful and important and what can be cut out when taking my notes.

Me and my friends have been coversating about this dilemma ever since we would come over and binge-watch youtubers like you who organize stuff. Back to the question, how can we take neat notes if our teacher isn't neccessarily the time-friendly person?
write all the important things the teacher says and rewrite them at home and if the teacher gives out ppts, scan the pages and write more info idk im bad at explaining
what i do , is write all my notes at school , important and relevant ones, bring them back home and rewrite them nicely , neatly or more organised. It helps a lot as i found this technique with studyquill and studytee ♡ also if you have any spare notes or paper with info and revision from last year or something ,, KEEP THEM ♡
Something that helps make notes look pretty is earasable pens. You can write quickly as you please but still be able to use fun colors! And if anything is misspelled or not neat you can fix it later. (I recommend only using 2 colors though, maybe more if it’s a diagram or something. Cause constantly switching pens slows you down but if you just have two it’s manageable).
I didnt take my notes at school since my teacher usually didnt gave us details on some topic, instead i wrote my notes at home, that way i can have more details than what my teacher told us.

When I go home 6 pm I'll rush bc I want to be in bed early and that's the reason I quit special classes for "smart" students and been depressed for months and took mental medicines for a year,,just because of not wanting to sleep late for school,,for SCHOOL ...but now I'm pretty well and motivated in school bc of vids like this
