i can help! i always used to find myself in this habit of wanting to fix my sleep schedule but being in a really bad schedule that is hard to fix, for example going to sleep at 4am and waking up at 1pm. there are two things i either do when i'm in this situation - 1, my preferred method, try to go to sleep just a little bit earlier maybe 2am or earlier if possible. then set your alarm for the time you would like to wake up for example 7am. when your alarm goes off you can't snooze it, just roll out of bed, splash your face with water, and walk around the house to wake up. granted you'll be tired all day but then you can go to sleep at a reasonable time for example 11pm, because you'll be so tired. then you wake up at 7am again and the cycle continues and you'll get used to it again. 2, my least preferred method. if you find yourself awake at 4am, simply pull an all nighter and go to sleep later that day for example at 9-10pm so you can wake up early and still be rested. it might also be helpful to learn about how much sleep you need (REM cycles), and avoid caffeine 9 hours before you plan to go to sleep (basically only drink caffeine in the mornings). hope this helped :)

One way I found to help me sleep when I'm restless is the 4 7 8 trick. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale for 8. Just slowing down your breath and focusing on your breathing in general can help you fall asleep faster, because when you sleep your breathing naturally slows down. Also try not to move around too much and stay in one place.
I have breathing problems and my doctor recommended a breathing technique that didn't help my breathing problem but helped me to fall asleep lol. So basically you breathe into your stomach (not chest) through your nose and exhale through your mouth. I keep one hand on my stomach and do this about 10 times and it helps me a lot when I can't fall asleep. I think this might help people with anxiety too.
That is so relatable, whenever I have to fill in the little bubbles on my answer sheet during exams if I accidently colored a little bit out of the bubble I would erase it and do it over 😞 and I wonder why I barely ever have time to get through all the questions on time lol

I’ve been struggling with perfectionism for a long time, the problem is, I can’t just ‘let go’. Could you do a vid on how you overcame too much perfectionism
For me it was really just taking a hard look at how toxic and abusive my perfectionism was and realizing that perfectionism DOES NOT equal success. I feel like perfectionism in our culture is so praised but really thinking about it...it only leads to more downfalls and our general unhappiness. I'm still working on it but what really works for me is just having more compassion for myself and also remembering that perfectionism comes from fear, not motivation. My fear was of failure which I thought was anything less than perfect but the truth is, first of all, anything less than perfect is still epic and amazing, and secondly, failure is inevitable but helps us learn and grow. Allow yourself that relief of just being human and growing and learning. Perfect also does not exist, but simply trying your best. I hope this helped a little and remember, your journey away from perfection will also have its mistakes and "imperfections" but it will make you happier in the end, and that's what matters most :)
I agree with everything that @Nessa R said. For me also something that helped me a lot 'letting go' and having compassion with myself was having a person/character to look up to. In one of my favorite TV series, one of the main characters loses her first match in an elimination tournament. Not even being able to get to the second series of matches is far from being perfect, yet the way she gave her best made it so that I deeply admired her after the match. She lost, but she was still awesome in my eyes. Whenever I'm being too harsh on myself, I think of that character, and I receive some calm knowing that not being perfect doesn't mean that what I did was worthless. I also wanted to emphasize Nessa's sentence where they say "Allow yourself that relief of just being human and growing and learning". Seeing my mistakes not as pitfalls in my journey, but rather as unlocking openings to higher mountains where I can improve my skills, helped me very much. I used to feel that I had to be perfect on my first try and understand things immediately, but I realized that growing and improving can be so, so much more satisfying.

I mean that you should try to get answers to the questions you have before the next lesson, because you’ll likely end up having more understanding problems because they pile up quickly. Example: I write down the questions I have and either ask my teacher or look them up after class. You can even use the questions for active recall. And don’t assume that the „perfect notes“ wit perfect colours and drawings and perfect handwriting is how people write in class. For some it might be possible, but it’s not usually the case. @@riannaeve6710 watching Netflix isn’t an issue in general. I watch Netflix or yt while or after doing my homework or other stuff as well. But some people act like it’s the teachers fault for only giving them 1 month for a certain task and that they couldn’t hand it in on time. However, those people just told you an hour ago that they don’t do anything else except for watching Netflix and yt.
I have officially rewatch your entire channel, plan with me, study advice, college chats, habits, declutter, organize, and vlogs... That's all I've done this holiday I need more videos and also, probably, help
I'm heavy on the "all or nothing" mindset when it comes to studying. If I don't feel like I would study everything I want, I wouldn't start it. Studyquill made me realize this and helped me work on my mindset! Thank you!!
Sleep really is important. I remember studying for my chem exam, only getting 3 hours sleep max. Honestly, i felt so 'smart' because i was working so much 'harder' and longer than my friends- who would only revise for an hour a day. Then, on the day of the exam i felt so mentally drained that i couldn't concentrate and did really bad.
Another thing I learned is that I have to make time for family, games, friends and more. Plans mess up sometimes,it’s completely okay to get magnanimous and give a brief amount of time to anime and Netflix, and give ourselves a break (not a month or an year break though☠️ ) To do lists are really helpful.☘️
I do not study math even though it’s my worst subject. I do the homework *most* of the time but I’ve never studied math. I don’t really know how but also I HATE doing it even though it would be insanely helpful because it takes me longer than the average person to understand a math topic.
Something I heard was to write down the reasoning in *words* (how the teacher explains the steps to a problem/theorem/method) as well, instead of just the mathematical expression. That way you have the logical reasoning written down to understand and study from.
As someone who struggles with math here is what I do- I write down everything, if there’s a math equation I make sure to write down the teachers explanation in detail, I write out any definitions they give, all examples, all the diagrams, etc…. It’s allowed me to go back over the notes and walk through it step by step without the teacher while studying and it’s very helpful.
I’m still in middle school and whenever I watch study videos it’s usually from people who already go to college so I always get confused about their study methods; the different amount of study time, different kind of note taking and/or a lot of different supplies and methods. However, I find your videos very comforting and easygoing, so it’s easier for me to relate to your study methods. Keep it up and thanks for your tips!
With the whole 'toxic competition for who sleeps the least', the way I perceive it (and the people around me), it's less of a competition of who spent the most time studying, but more a competition for self-pity. It sounds dramatic and piteous when you say that you did nothing until 10pm and then had to work until 2 because you put it off for four hours (because that I do sometimes), and when you one-up someone it's almost like saying "don't feel bad about _your_ situation, look how bad _I've_ got it"
I think the “flow state” she is talking about is like the adhd hyperfocus if you have adhd you know what I mean but like if you’re interested even just a little bit you like go into this nonstop mode were you like go into this world of extreme focus. And on the other hand, if you’re not interested it’s near impossible to get anything done without constant distraction.
I have adhd. And i perfectly get what you said. It's painful actually to focus on anything that i am not interested in. But i have found some ways to focus even when I don't want to
I'm going to be in high school this year and I'm actually very scared because I've always been "a smart kid" but I'm afraid that high school is actually going to be harder for me than I'm used to.
that was me last year aha, just don’t worry about it that much! yes, high school is harder, but for me it was mostly because of how much more independent i was expected to be than middle school. but if you stay on top of your work, you should be fine! and don’t expect to much of yourself cause you’ll be disappointed and lose motivation :) burnout is real haha that was a mess of tips/personal experience but hope it helps!

For the first tip, here are some ideas on how to sleep more and change your sleep schedule that have worked for me! -If you like tea, there are different types of herbal teas that I’ve enjoyed drinking before sleeping. I personally like chamomile tea and mint tea. There is also one called “Sleepytime Extra” from the Celestial Seasonings brand that has something called valerian root in it. When I have trouble falling asleep, I have a cup of that and it knocks me out. -On days when I’m feeling particularly productive, I try to stop using electronics ~30 mins before bedtime. It can be difficult but if I occupy myself with reading or yoga passes faster. -If you want to start waking up/sleeping earlier, then it’s beneficial to wake up/sleep earlier in intervals of 15-20 minutes each day. I can’t remember where I read it initially, but I believe it’s meant to help your circadian rhythm with the adjustment. Because if you to to bed like 4 hours earlier than normal to wake up earlier, you’re likely to be tired (in my experience). Also keeping your sleep schedule as consistent as possible after changing it will help with energy levels. -As I mentioned earlier, some stretching/yoga before bed is helpful to loosen your muscles before laying down. Don’t push yourself too hard though. Try looking up some nighttime stretching routines to wind down, those tend to be less strenuous then other ones.
You're really putting it out there and it's most likely true and is needed to be dealt with. When you said some things I immediately reflected back on how similar the things I did. Thank you for talking about this.
yess never sacrifice sleep for studying!!! i honestly don’t know how i was functioning in highschool... sometimes i slept only 3- 4 hours! sometimes i didn’t sleep at all! now in college i prioritize my sleep and overall health over everything! + i feel much less stressed over schoolwork because of that☝️😌
For the one about taking advice as gospel, i used to do exactly that but now I find multiple strategies for the same purpose and test them all to find out what works best for me, and sometimes I’ll mix a few of them to make it work for me :)
Summary: 1. get enough sleep 2. start early 3. take breaks always (but in flow state) 4. don’t practice unhealthy perfectionism 5. don’t take advice as gospel (everyone is different)
okay- so i haven't even watched it yet but I already know you gonna help me improve like crazy "still thinkin bout the time in 8th grade when i got a B+ , my heart: **dies**
Online university has been great for my study habits because I finally realised that I don't work well in groups. Study groups at the library are just the most distracting thing for me, I do not thrive we people doing more (or less) than me. So I totally love your advice on "trying something for size", because this is how you find out what you like !
are you going to do another what’s in my backpack since more classes are in person? i’m gonna be a freshman in college and i’m binging all back2school videos lol
i love how you're not putting yourself on a pedestal, but acknowledging how it can be hard to maintain a healthy study-routine. it helped my unrealistic expectations to my perfectionistic self x
1.Not sleeping enough(7-9h/night) 2.Starting late(space repetition, scheduling) 3.Not taking breaks 4.Perfectionism(reject all or nothing mindset!) 5.Taking advice as gospel(different things work for different people!)
Jasmine you seem so real. Like you seem to give your actual opinions without caring about what’s “trendy”. And the perfection ism thing really hit me. Thanks for all you do!
The perfectionism advice really hit too close to home. I have a teacher that scares me a lot and when you answer his question in class, he asks more and it's really scary. I always shake or I feel cold during his classes but I will definitely keep in mind the "Done well is better than half done perfectly thing"! I will try to talk in his classes instead of just keeping quiet. Thank you!
I was skipping the first four parts because i already know and read alot about them untill i reached the perfectionism part... i giggled because thats what i struggle with the most xD
I needed that tip on retaining information! I actually was thinking about it earlier because I want to actually learn and retain stuff, but high school taught me to learn and retain things just long enough for the test. Here I come for round two, French!
Thank you for the not sleeping tip 😅😅 I swear I’m the only one entering second yr of college who sleeps at like 9:30 or earlier while everyone else sleeps at like 12-4 am 😭

I either spend 10hrs making perfect aesthetic notes or I just scribble down a bunch of random notes 5 minutes before an exam there's no in between
I have officially rewatch your entire channel, plan with me, study advice, college chats, habits, declutter, organize, and vlogs... That's all I've done this holiday I need more videos and also, probably, help
I'm heavy on the "all or nothing" mindset when it comes to studying. If I don't feel like I would study everything I want, I wouldn't start it. Studyquill made me realize this and helped me work on my mindset! Thank you!!
girl, what is your skincare routine? Your skin is glowing!!
it’s literally a nightmare being a perfectionist and over achiever while procrastinating all the time
You just described my life right now
Me? Hello where are the cameras???
Sleep really is important. I remember studying for my chem exam, only getting 3 hours sleep max. Honestly, i felt so 'smart' because i was working so much 'harder' and longer than my friends- who would only revise for an hour a day. Then, on the day of the exam i felt so mentally drained that i couldn't concentrate and did really bad.
"Starting too late" she says to the person who watches this video while procrasinating
Another thing I learned is that I have to make time for family, games, friends and more. Plans mess up sometimes,it’s completely okay to get magnanimous and give a brief amount of time to anime and Netflix, and give ourselves a break (not a month or an year break though☠️ )
To do lists are really helpful.☘️
**starts talking about perfectionism and stuff**
my childhood trauma: why hello there
Fr 🙂
Facts...
Same
As someone who struggles with math here is what I do- I write down everything, if there’s a math equation I make sure to write down the teachers explanation in detail, I write out any definitions they give, all examples, all the diagrams, etc….
Keep it up and thanks for your tips!
i'm already attacked on "not sleeping", man, i'm competitive when it comes to sleep. the "flex", i won't do it again
With the whole 'toxic competition for who sleeps the least', the way I perceive it (and the people around me), it's less of a competition of who spent the most time studying, but more a competition for self-pity. It sounds dramatic and piteous when you say that you did nothing until 10pm and then had to work until 2 because you put it off for four hours (because that I do sometimes), and when you one-up someone it's almost like saying "don't feel bad about _your_ situation, look how bad _I've_ got it"
Definitely.
But i have found some ways to focus even when I don't want to
Who even gets hyper focused on studies
@@nm9688 Lots of people. If the topic on hand is interesting, I've caught myself spending hours studying just because.
I'm going to be in high school this year and I'm actually very scared because I've always been "a smart kid" but I'm afraid that high school is actually going to be harder for me than I'm used to.
high school is not that much more challenging
High school isn’t too bad. I’ll be a junior this year. Don’t stress it; you’ll do great!👍
that was me last year aha, just don’t worry about it that much! yes, high school is harder, but for me it was mostly because of how much more independent i was expected to be than middle school. but if you stay on top of your work, you should be fine! and don’t expect to much of yourself cause you’ll be disappointed and lose motivation :) burnout is real haha
that was a mess of tips/personal experience but hope it helps!
You should be fine just do ur hw as early as possible and then ask your friends for help if you need it. Also PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS! I never did my first year of high school and it didn’t do me any favors lol
I am going to college this Monday and I have the same feeling I have not even admitted to a college nor I have bought my books because our papers ended last Friday and we got only 9 days to prepare for college
Hey, as someone who has really been struggling with education and marks and all, I would like to thank you for telling me that I am actually not following the toxic methods of perfection. I have been feeling really down that I m not doing my best by not studying till late , or for a long time but not that I see that even if my pace is slow, it's healthy, I feel great.
lovexlove
All the points she talked about in this video:-
0:43 not sleeping enough
3:02 starting too late
6:19 skipping breaks
8:08 unhealthy perfectionism
10:42 taking advice as gospel
thanks ;)
Thank uuuuu :)

The fact that I have all of these bad habits 🥲
I am self teaching myself Japanese. These tips are helpful outside of school too.
yess never sacrifice sleep for studying!!! i honestly don’t know how i was functioning in highschool... sometimes i slept only 3- 4 hours! sometimes i didn’t sleep at all!
now in college i prioritize my sleep and overall health over everything! + i feel much less stressed over schoolwork because of that☝️😌
Me watching this while procrastinating for my entry test 😭
Kinda same, I have two test tomorrow and i am watch a video about bad study habit 😵
omg good luck with your test
For the one about taking advice as gospel, i used to do exactly that but now I find multiple strategies for the same purpose and test them all to find out what works best for me, and sometimes I’ll mix a few of them to make it work for me :)
“Just like you would never skip class to study or do other work.” Oops I’ve done exactly that
Summary:
1. get enough sleep
2. start early
3. take breaks always (but in flow state)
4. don’t practice unhealthy perfectionism
5. don’t take advice as gospel (everyone is different)
okay- so i haven't even watched it yet but I already know you gonna help me improve like crazy "still thinkin bout the time in 8th grade when i got a B+ , my heart: **dies**
Congratulations on 900,000 subscribers! Your study advice really helps me.
thank you so much for making this video 💞!!
Honestly, just opening RUclips to see a new video from Jasmine makes my day💙💙
I love that you show us what you wouldn’t recommend and then show us what does work!! Helps!!
- I just want to let anyone who’s reading this, and going through a tough time know that it’s going to be okay. You’ll get through it! ✨
You dude literally motivates me and inspired me a lot.
Keep it up.
Can we just talk about the fact that Jasmine just had a viral video and she gained like 250k subs?!?!
Online university has been great for my study habits because I finally realised that I don't work well in groups. Study groups at the library are just the most distracting thing for me, I do not thrive we people doing more (or less) than me. So I totally love your advice on "trying something for size", because this is how you find out what you like !
Who else is already getting ready before the school year starts? Also, thanks for being such an inspiration jasmine ❤️

are you going to do another what’s in my backpack since more classes are in person? i’m gonna be a freshman in college and i’m binging all back2school videos lol
i love how you're not putting yourself on a pedestal, but acknowledging how it can be hard to maintain a healthy study-routine. it helped my unrealistic expectations to my perfectionistic self x
Your voice is amazing, maybe when I can't sleep I should play one of your videos
1.Not sleeping enough(7-9h/night)
2.Starting late(space repetition, scheduling)
3.Not taking breaks
4.Perfectionism(reject all or nothing mindset!)
5.Taking advice as gospel(different things work for different people!)
Always here with videos just when i need em.
this was super helpful because i have bad study habits 😭😩 thanks for this
Thanks this video helped me a lot!!
Btw your skin looks FLAWLESS
Jasmine you seem so real. Like you seem to give your actual opinions without caring about what’s “trendy”. And the perfection ism thing really hit me. Thanks for all you do!
I should really stop studying 5 minutes before tests.. I was lucky in middle school but I don’t think i’ll be so lucky in hs.
Thank you!
"you should start studying 2 weeks before a test"
*me who's studying 2 hours before the test* : mhm, yeah totally!
Your advices are super helpful thanks so much, love you 🥰🥰😘
how did she know that i needed this?! 😭
I was skipping the first four parts because i already know and read alot about them untill i reached the perfectionism part... i giggled because thats what i struggle with the most xD
Not me watching a girl, going into her sophomore year of college, teaching me, going into my senior year of college, how to life
As in I'm going to ss2 that's basically junior yr in america and I'm listening to this
Wow thank you so much! I find most of the ‘back to school’ videos pretty much the same and useless but this one was really useful. So thank you
my school doesn't allow note-taking in a lot on classes, so this is the only way i can learn how for high school :,)
its the opposite for me. students must take notes and teachers may check your notebook to see if you took your notes

First tip:
Sleep enough

@@So.um.like.yeh. yeahh and her study advices
True :)
I needed that tip on retaining information! I actually was thinking about it earlier because I want to actually learn and retain stuff, but high school taught me to learn and retain things just long enough for the test. Here I come for round two, French!
Thank you for the not sleeping tip 😅😅
I swear I’m the only one entering second yr of college who sleeps at like 9:30 or earlier while everyone else sleeps at like 12-4 am 😭

hey Jasmine, im just a an eigth grader soon beginning last middle school year, and youre videos are very calming and comforting. im just glad i found your channel, its entertaining and mood uplifting, thank you for uploading and being on this platform :D
I cannot stress how important sleep is, please don't ever compromise it.....
People can survive a month without food and sunlight but there so many who died when they stayed awake for 10-13 days and that is stretching it
Your point is really valid… but your stats aren’t.
