I wish razer put the 100W version of the intel+vega combo inside their systems. I know it wouldn't be a performance upgrade, but it would be a massive thermal improvement..
Psst, just open ARK and look for Memory Specifications and PCI Express Configuration for 7700HQ. You don't need tests to understand that HQ is better than any offcut U shit! But you never know how much power you will need!) For performance never choose U over HQ!
I'm looking forward to see your reviews on laptops with Ryzen Mobile APUs! Especially ones with dual-channel memory. As these use the same chip as their desktop counterparts (2200g and 2400g) I'm confident that they will improve drivers quickly.
I saw an Alienware 17 R4 brand new (old stock) from the online Dell outlet, but it was purchased before I was even able to put it in the cart. The price was $1,299.99. It was fully-specced too except for the RAM (only 16GB)!
Hey, Great Review, Can you Also Review Asus Vivobook S15 Which comes with mx-150. Asus calls it Nano-Bezels and it also runs on 8th gen i5 or i7. REPLY
Hi Dave nice video. I'm planning to buy a gaming laptop and am planning to buy Dell Inspiron 7577 with 1060 but with 8 gen cpus coming i think Dell is gonna release thier 1060 max q with the new chips. Do you think I should wait for 5 months? and will it be worth it?
It would be worth it if you always wait. 8th gen would have spectre and meltdown proof CPUs that means you'll have no performance penalties even if windows updates to patch those CPU issues.
Hey Dave, can you do a video discerning the difference in eGPU performance between the 8th gen i5/i7 vs the new intel/Vega CPU? Thanks man! Keep up the awesome work!
Sebastian Hakansson because I like his videos on Laptops and phones. He's good at breaking down laptops for students that are made for productivity not gaming.
I'm really eager to see the i7 8709G thermals, noise and benchmarks. Also what i'm really sad about is that no laptops are being released, that are in the size range of a razer blade 14, have a 8th gen U cpu and a 1060 Max Q in it with really good cooling. I only see the 8550U solo or paired with a MX chip, which doesn't really impress me a lot. Microsoft has the combo in the Surface Book, but to expensive, to hot, no TB for eGPU, shitty powermanagement issues and terrible powerbrick quality.
Reason for the 8550u being either solo or paired with the MX150 is because its a 15watt CPU. The 1060 is paired normally with a 45watt CPU hence the upcoming H series of CPUS from Intel.
Psst, just open ARK and look for Memory Specifications and PCI Express Configuration for 7700HQ. You don't need tests to understand that HQ is better than any offcut U shit! But you never know how much power you will need!) For performance never choose U over HQ!
Only relative tech channel who actually talks about the TECH Which I am looking for.... All other tech channel is all about odd devices and out of hand expensive shit.... Thanks Dave you help me a lot buying stuff ...
The Whole point to the kaby lake G chips is that they'll fit in a formfactor that NO DISCRETE GPU could ever fit into, and it's always been the case that you pay a premium for smaller electronics....stop comparing it to a 1060/1070 on only performance Dave!!!
Great as always. I love to watch it. Dave, can you make a video and test all Geforce Now possibilities? I got my beta key and I am so happy to run lates games at Ultra 4k quality on my xps 13 with integrated video. I will be glad to hear your point of view at this technology! I don't see any reason to buy a gaming laptop anymore...
Could you do a video on what “light/ casual” gaming means to you. It’s an entirely subjective concept but could be very helpful subject to touch on! Love the videos (probably watched almost every gaming laptop review 5 times) they helped me pull the trigger on a new XPS 15

Yup will be sticking with my i7 7700hq and 1060 based laptop for a good 3 years I think. I just need to double the from from 8gb to 16gb but thats going to cost me $175+ for a set of matching 8gb sticks so yeah that will be a long while before I can afford that and on top of that I want to save up about $1k or so for a 8 core Ryzen 2k and xx70 aka whatever replaces the 1070 gpu with 16gb of ram and a 250gb ssd and 2-4tb hdd desktop. Should be doable I think for roughly $1k if not upwards of $1300
Hey dave2d, I know the usual response to making a laptop, its too hard and it'll be far, but I spent 1 hr designing a few laptops and found I can make them under 30mm thick with 27mm being the thinnest one using just desktop parts like a STX board and maybe even a mini its board. TDP on all my designs were under 175w total for GPU cpu ram storage and portable monitor. Pricing was also cheaper. Configs include: 1. i5 8400T+1160ti (35+120w) 40-50% battery space 2. Pentium G5400+1050ti (54w+75) 3. 3300G (rumours ik) 65w The only problem I have is battery. I actually have over 50% of the laptop space free for battery, just not sure how batteries work. It's not difficult for me honestly. If we had access to laptop heatsink and case, I can't imagine what I could do.
the R5 2500u in the HP envy x360 runs games pretty damn well for what it is. i take it with me to my college class and hook it up to the ultra-wide at my desk during break. only one problem... Skyrim doesnt seem to support ultrawide resolutions.... everything else plays surprisingly well. on another note, in most games you cant max out the graphics at the laptops native resolution(1920x1080), but using medium to low settings will usually yield good frame-rates. Definitely cant wait to see how the vega driver updates help the laptop out.
I like about your videos that you always have the prices in mind. An iPhone X review or comparison is completely useless if it is not being said that the thing is $1300 compared to $500 android alternatives with the same functionality.
I definetely see the GL CPUs in the next Macbooks. Would be a missed opportunity by Apple otherwise. The 6 core HQs are awesome, but as long as there isn't TB4 and external GPUs are loosing performance this isn't a solution for me. I'm curious though, with what Razer will come up this year. Would love to see a Blade 15 with thinner bezels, 6 core CPU and 1060 Max-Q (not 1070, thermals..) Or they could use the bigger Intel GH..
Kaby lake g series on XPS 15 2 in 1! Perfect fit for programming, taking notes and casual gaming. Tho I have my doubts and would like to wait it out until maybe coffee lake g series? Please do a review of the XPS 15 2 in 1 versus normal version once they come out!
Hey Dave.. how bout a video on the state of Kaby lake-G in 2019.. seemed pretty awesome but I'm not seeing anything in 2019. A friend of mine has the XPS 2 in 1 and swears by it. I see him playing most of the newer games at pretty good FPS. Pretty crazy in such a thin laptop.. How come they aren't being used in X360's/Xps13/lenovo yogas..etc. Seems like a much better performer than the MX150/250's . Thanks!
Are you going to do a video on the Medion Erazor laptop series? There quite decent laptops with good cooling. I bought the one with gtx1070 and it runs games so smoothly. Obviously there are some bad features with the laptop but that will be for you to find out personally 😉
Really like your videos, im currently looking for either a i5-8250 + mx150 or i5-7300hq + 1050/1050ti. Wanna use the laptop for Uni and Gaming, i have a desktop PC at home so its more for some casual gaming when im with friends and so on. Do you think the mx150 is good enough for that?
Those H processors could be incorrect, while the most recent leaks specify the i5s as being 4 core/8 thread, all prior indications were that it would be 6 core/6 thread. I guess we’ll know for sure when they are released. As for the U-series processors, we don’t have them already at all, we have about 5 and I don’t know what’s stopping Intel from releasing the rest of them but it’s getting ridiculous.
Like like like.. i love to like your all videos.. everytime..u r tht good.. the only youtuber whom i like everytime no matter wht😉✌️ hope it helps.. i want to c u the biggest youtuber one day😊✌️ best wishes nd my efforts with u.. 👍have a nice day
The Intel Core i7-8809G with AMD Vega GH Graphics looks really great! I hope Dell releases a new Inspiron gaming laptop with this new CPU/GPU chip with the EMIB for fast communication between the two chips. Although the Dell XPS 15 2 in 1 is coming out with this new chip I feel as though the IO on an Inspiron would be better.
Holy shit that 8950HK looks amazing. Looks like I will finally replace my Alienware 17 R1 with it's 4930mx clocked at 4.5 and 980m with one of those beasts. Hopefully the new MSI GT75VR comes shipped with those. Or I can go Clevo with a socketed processor but I already have a 8700k desktop and probably don't need that in a portable desktop solution.
Hi Dave, First of all, I am really a great fan of you and don't know why I understand you and your ways better than anything on internet.. here is one question for you. please help and answer me if you can.. I am planning to buy a laptop in this month for video editing in premiere pro CC17. I was pretty much sure about buying Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS 15.6" 4K touchscreen display with Intel Core i7-7700HQ which is 7th gen. BUT THEN I recently came across other laptops with 8th gen intel i7 giving way better benchmarks and rendering time. and now I am seriously confused which laptop to buy. is it worth paying extra for 8th gen. I am just a video editor no games! and further as premiere pro uses Mercury Engine for rendering and stuff and XPS15 has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB GDDR5. So is it worth investing around $500? will the combination of the Graphic card with i7 will almost give the same result as 8th gen? Therefore its a request if you can get your hands on XPS 15 with i7 7th gen and a laptop with i7 8th gen, then can you please actually run a rendering test and tell me is it worth investing in 8th gen. Will there be any huge difference? if yes? then how huge? or should i settle for XPS15 @ $1700 ?
Hi Dave ! First of all thanks for your really good videos, it's really clear and even a newbie in the PC/Windows world like me can understand pretty easily ;) If someone could help, I've been looking for a gaming laptop and even after watching your videos I'm still wondering which one will be the best option for me. I want a gaming laptop mostly for gaming indie games, some AAA or other games that are only available on Windows . I'm mostly playing on my PS4, but i'd like to have another option :p Also if I could use this laptop for music production and graphic design, it'll be great ! So maybe a 1TB SSD and a 14/15" screen ? I've looked for a Razer Blade 14", the MSI GS63VR 7RG Stealth Pro, Asus ROG Strix GL502, mostly for the price and the design, which one would you guys recommend? Thanks a lot for those who'll help !
I would love to see a Razer blade with the Intel + Vega chip (Vega GH 100W version). GTX 1060 level performance but with a lot less heat. Pretty much solving the thermal throttling issues, being lighter and even thinner
The thing with the Kaby Lake G is that the performance loss is made up by the massive efficiency increase. a 1070 laptop may have better Performance/Dollar, but it will majorly loose out in battery life, gaming or non-gaming. So on the go (like a Laptop will be used in most situations), a Kaby-Lake G Vega laptop would be better in all situations, unless if the 1050-Ti Max-Q laptops have similar/better performance and efficiency for less than the Vega GL Kaby lake G's.
So i'm kinda getting into the gaming laptop scene for the first time - and I wanted your thoughts: Where does SC2 and WoW fall in the GPU market? is a 1050 fine, 1060, 1070? whats going to future proof me for the next 3 - 4 years for that kind of game?
Even now in 2019 watching this for the first time I agree with the regard to processors like the i7 8809G with AMD Vega M GH graphics. Though it would make sense on the desktop side. Since a similar performing custom rig with new parts wouldn't be able to come close to the NUC in size (only desktops available with those processors) at the same price.
If you're planning on upgrading this year, which CPU do you think you'll go for?
Ill just use a potato like I always have

I just wish to point out that a 1070M on a 7700HQ can hit 1400MHz on the GPU and 2800 MHz on the CPU on about 100W of power to.

Hey Dave, make a video for college laptops with mediocre gaming use. Ty!
RainO'Frags look at the hp pavilion power. It's pretty thin, has an I7, GTX 1050, and all for like $800 with tax
If you want cheaper go for Acer Aspire 5, with mx150 with Intel core i5 8250 and 8gb RAM for $650

I was hoping they would, but now that I know they're called "G" chips (stands for gaming), I doubt they will. Apple hasn't ever used anything labeled for gaming. :'(
It's possible. It's low enough wattage to fit their thermal profile
They have used Nvidia's geforce gtx gpus which are for gaming and not the workstation quadro.
Dave Lee That’s what I was thinking. And Apple seems to like the Intel CPU + AMD GPU combo.
I think they will. The performance is way too good for the wattage to miss the opportunity.
Thank you bro for making this video

the R5 2500u in the HP envy x360 runs games pretty damn well for what it is. i take it with me to my college class and hook it up to the ultra-wide at my desk during break. only one problem...
Guys do u think i should get a core i5 7300hq or pay about 200 - 300 bucks more for i7 7700hq?
The Carrot Spend a Lil more
You won't have a lot of fun with an i5
Flame Reflex yeah but i need a laptop right now and was wondering... will the i5 7300hq last a long time?
That's exactly the point the 8th Gen is already out now so 9th Gen will follow soon
Depends what u wanna use ur laptop for
Keep these kind of vids coming, was incredible useful for my upcoming laptop

Just another Yasuo Main I'm an Ahri Main And I am bisexual.
LMAO!
I just ordered a laptop with a i7 8700 desktop CPU, gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ram and a m.2 ssd. I'm so hyped.
Loving those nerd numbers, thanks for breaking it down so well Dave!
Thanks!
Going to support Ryzen in my next upgrade cycle - as a developer the extra cores also definitely help out.
You, randomfrankp, hardwarecanucks and hardware unboxed are my favourite tech channels!
good video street to the point no ad a lot of information . thank you
Can you make a video on gaming desktops for 2018? Like top 5 or something.
the first man thanks for all your advices dave you so helful keep up
Are you going to do a video on the Medion Erazor laptop series? There quite decent laptops with good cooling. I bought the one with gtx1070 and it runs games so smoothly. Obviously there are some bad features with the laptop but that will be for you to find out personally 😉
i don't normally comment but that was a great breakdown! thanks!
Awesome, this does help round my decision a bit more.
Thanks, I needed this video for a purchase I will make soon.
What a coincidence, I was just looking into the Vega iGPU this morning. Might upgrade from my Dell i7559 to the new XPS lineup once it comes out.
please do this again, it was great to see benchmarking stats.
Great video... What about content creators/editors who want a more powerful yet lightweight machine? Which of these options fit's the bill?
Like like like.. i love to like your all videos.. everytime..u r tht good.. the only youtuber whom i like everytime no matter wht😉✌️ hope it helps.. i want to c u the biggest youtuber one day😊✌️ best wishes nd my efforts with u.. 👍have a nice day
Hey, Dave, do a review on one of those Origin PC Laptops. An EON17-SLX if possible. That would be great, so, please, do a review on that!
Can I ask how you make those super cool 2D intros? I would love to know where to start!
BUT THEN
I recently came across other laptops with 8th gen intel i7 giving way better benchmarks and rendering time. and now I am seriously confused which laptop to buy. is it worth paying extra for 8th gen.
Thanks for the informative video m8!
Hi Dave ! First of all thanks for your really good videos, it's really clear and even a newbie in the PC/Windows world like me can understand pretty easily ;)
If someone could help, I've been looking for a gaming laptop and even after watching your videos I'm still wondering which one will be the best option for me. I want a gaming laptop mostly for gaming indie games, some AAA or other games that are only available on Windows . I'm mostly playing on my PS4, but i'd like to have another option :p
Also if I could use this laptop for music production and graphic design, it'll be great !
Hi, maybe some Laptops for editing? Premiere Pro? :)
Hey Dave, here is a request for your next video.
Start it with "Hey guys, this is Dave Lee"
Love your neat ass videos. Had always been reliable for me
I would love to see a Razer blade with the Intel + Vega chip (Vega GH 100W version).
Now it seems like RUclips ads are working well..
So i'm kinda getting into the gaming laptop scene for the first time - and I wanted your thoughts: Where does SC2 and WoW fall in the GPU market? is a 1050 fine, 1060, 1070? whats going to future proof me for the next 3 - 4 years for that kind of game?
I hope we get 13" and 15" MacBook Pros with Intel + Vega GH this year!
Nice video as always, Dave! Just one little thing, can you fix your eyebrows? lmao
Thanks for comparing so many cpu for us!
Very informative. Thanks
Woah I just checked back from when this channel has 250k and now it has a million. Gj
Hey, Great Review, Can you Also Review Asus Vivobook S15 Which comes with mx-150. Asus calls it Nano-Bezels and it also runs on 8th gen i5 or i7.
