2:44 the groan of defeat
tall kings not feeling so kingly right now 😂😥
Some of the most technical high quality content on youtube, wish your channel was more well known.
Diss me if you like, I love drop seoi nage. I'm doing old man judo - whatever works.
😂😂 exactly
2:46 my man was dying
😂
Ippon seoi nage was the first throw I learned as a child. To this day it's my favorite and most satisfying big throw.
My arm hurts though
Welcome back George
I love it. It's similar to what I was teaching last night. Now, people (any of my students) will see this video and think I copied it. 🤣 I love your Judo and videos.
For me it's always the other way around. I see the video, think "Uhhh haven't done that throw in a while" and than I'll do it in my next 2-3 classes^^
Imagine when your students figure out that everything you are teaching them you copied from another person! And that that person copied from someone else! The shame.😂
@@stevezy4772 I'm pretty sure they know. I'll share those vids before class 😁
Exactly what I needed, thanks
This video is gold u guys are great thank you Sensei!
I am impressed!
Great advice!!
I really love this stuff. I am trying to pull it off, and so far I've impressed ... well ... nobody. Not even myself.
Workin' on it.
Ok I'm def trying this in next weeks practice.
Thank you
I love how the New York accent slipping out of Shintaro at random times.
what a good video thanks for sharing your knowledge, it would be great to go to a training with you😁
thaank you for the teaching friend forever
Interesting !
That's the Travis Steven's way ! I love it. To unprepared beginners, this is a sure kill.
Of course there are a lot of little tricks to implement, and I am on my way to master those.
Also, what do you do against a lefty ?
But man, does it work ! Just the day before, I tried this setup and I could throw anybody.
Awesome 👍
What you really want to focus on when you want to throw someone with ippon-seoi-nage "effortlessly", is not just centre of mass.
A lot of people seem to understand that your centre of mass, should be below your opponent's (= your belt needs to be your opponent's belt).
But there are a few more factors to consider if you want to do a good ippon-seoi-nage:
1) as mentioned before, try to get your centre of mass, below your opponent's.
2) try to give your opponent forward momentum. The greater the velocity of your opponent, the easier the next step is.
3) your opponent's weight needs to aid you in your throw forward. Which means that if you draw a line from your opponents centre of mass straight down, that line should exceed your centre of mass. (The angle of the line changes the more momentum forward your partner has. However, usually it's pretty hard to bring your partner forward with great speed, therefore it's almost neglectable in most cases.)
I think one of the biggest mistakes people make, is that they do not leave enough room between themselves and their partner while entering the technique.
This has two consequences:
1) if your first step towards your partner brings you too close to your partner, you don't have enough space to do kuzushi.
2) also, you don't have enough room to turn properly without pushing your body into your opponent.
Latter 2 points make the idea that you need to give your opponent momentum forward impossible, and even might result in the opposite.
If so, it'll be way harder to make your opponent's weight help you to throw forward. You'll need to enter too deep in between your opponent's legs, that it becomes unrealistic.
A tip that might help to actually execute ippon-seoi-nage in randori is to enter fast, to give minimal reaction time for your partner to regain balance. Getting yourself back in balance is an automatic, unconscious action. Therefore we need to break our opponent's balance and enter the technique almost simultaneously.
Hope this is at least a little bit understandable, if you have any questions, comments or criticism... Feel free to comment.
Trust me, I'm an expert!
My absolute favorite throw. I like to spam some drop seoi then sneak in one standing. I see the frustration in their eyes when it happens haha.
:(
I bragged about a drop Seio Nage and didn’t know I was just embarrassing myself. The shame… THE SHAME! 😢😢😢
Although I would respect a well timed and well executed one, those unclean ones spammed by beginners ... well... I am not a fan of.
It's alright to feel proud of your success though !
Uke really upgraded his facial hair from the johnny depp dirt swirl he has in earlier videos. He gives hope to guys like me who can only grow patchy bears. Thanks, uke!
Nice
Haven't seen George in a minute
Gold.
Would love an Ippon seoi nage instructional 😏.
How would you rate the throw done in the end of the film THE COURT JESTER (1955) ?
It's funny standing seio is one of the only throws I get in randori here and there. I have never hit drop and I almost never do it. My other throws have all been less effective than standing seio and I'm actually a tall guy for my class. -73kg and like 5'11 ish.
What is The difference between seio nage and ippon seio
Tokui Waza!!!!!
You mean to tell me you can do Seoi Nage standing???
Excuse my ignorance but what does the red and white belt in judo signify?
It is awarded when someone advances to the upper dan ranks, beginning with 6th dan (6th degree black belt). You'll notice that he wears a black belt in some of his videos and a red-white belt in others, as he's still a "black belt" in the sense that everything from shodan (1st degree) up is a dan rank that is typically associated with being a black belt in one of these arts, and many instructors who have earned these higher belts still stick with a "plain" black belt when they train or aren't doing anything ceremonial.
Formally speaking, the "colored belt" ranks are known as kyu ranks, with their numbers in *descending* order as rank increases. Thus, white belt is the highest numbered kyu (I've generally observed it to be 6th or 7th kyu in the judo systems I've seen), while the lowest numbered kyu is the final rank of brown (first kyu or "ikkyu"), which comes right before the first black belt rank (1st dan or "shodan").
The dan ranks are black from 1st through 5th dan, then red-white (like Shintaro's belt in this video) from 6th through 8th dan, and then solid red for 9th and 10th dan.
You may observe slight variations depending on the school/system, whether they're affiliated directly with the Kodokan (the school in Japan where the founder Jigoro Kano first began teaching judo), etc. But the info above should be generally correct for most proper judo schools you'll encounter.
@@JudoGeoffHighly informative. Great post. +1
if I don't get the uppercut part, does that change the name or did I just land a sloppy Seoi Nage?
That means you have a compliant training partner lol. Without getting the upper cut right you're not lifting the uke, unless he's letting you
no, there is no compliant opponent in competition@@iwatchwithnoads7480
"Oh shh...!
oh sh...!
cmon mothaf..."
😅😅😅
Aka “old man seoi” 😊
Isn't feinting forbidden in judo tournaments? It is at least I my country (Poland)
i think he doesnt have pure IJF rules in mind.
Feinting is allowed but fake attack which is just running away and dropping to your knees isn’t allowed
Feinting is essential to judo
@ryansmith9138 that reminds me of a ridiculous back-and-forth I got into with someone a while back about tournament belt/gi rules, and the guy was obstinate about how any program/school/tournament that isn't IJF-affiliated "doesn't count." It was baffling to me. They're doing all the same techniques and training just as hard, but because they might swap belts for tourney competitors or don't pay dues to a given organization, it's like they don't exist.
I can think of few things that are farther from the spirit of good martial arts in my mind than such arbitrary, tribal gatekeeping. Oh well.
I for one am glad that Shintaro teaches with a broader mindset. I just want to learn the art. I care far less about this week's exact accepted rule set for competition at IJF-sanctioned events. 🤷♂️
Why does nobody the standing ippon variation were you trap both of ukes arms. I this technique would go very nice with Sode tsurikomi ashi.
What is sode tsurikomi ashi?
@@doriankiss1 Would be a Sasea tsurikomi ashi with double sleeve grip .But i meant sode tsurikomi goshi.i misswrote.
