In the HDMI cable you have 8 cables (4 twisted pairs) that send image/sound data. The others are basically detecting that you turned on a device and perform a handshake to check that the HDCP encryption is established before sending image, so if you don't interrupt the connection you still have data but you cannot reestablish the connection without them. On the plug you also have 4 pins I think that are ground for the shielding. Although not explained in the video, it answered my question for what I was trying to do, nice video.
I'm planing to cut all 8 wires and rejoined with soldering irons. Can still iy be ok to use? I buy very long HDMI cable about 5 meters, but now I have no longer need that range so I want to make it shorter than 2 meter and exceeded 8 cables can be used for my diy project
HDMI is packed full of many options of data and control. It’s more than just a video cable or a way to hook up a monitor. There’s sometimes power, control for other equipment. You have enough to make the monitor work with all those wires cut, but HDMI does a lot more than the things you are testing for.
Although this wasn't quite what I was expecting when searching for an answer to a technical issue I'm having it actually answered my question just fine and to boot was a joy to watch. Especially liked the "red looks important" bit. Cheers.
I Just loved this video...thank you for making this...so innocently you have shot this video....i guess you yourself do not realise what a great thing u have done!! thanks
Some of the wires are probably there to identify the display and It's specs. So after connecting and knowing what type of display it is, it doesn’t need them anymore until reconnected.
You have a great channel, I found it today. HDMI is really just a data cable, it contains three serial data channels and a clock signal channel. Each of these is made up of a positive version of the signal and a negative version, these are compared when received and any common spikes of voltage are discarded. There is also an earth for each of these. If only a single channel is in use cutting a single wire will go unnoticed. I think the distortion is caused by some data loss on the clock signal or perhaps even a data channel.
All cables, USB, HDMI, ANALOG VIDEO AND AUDIO, Ethernet use copper wire. what makes them different is how they constructed as a whole, shielding application and wire gauge and amount of wires in that cable. Thats it.
I thinks there's something like a digital synchronisation applied to the six or four wires including red blue green and yellow or purple wires whoes duty is to transmit colours as digital data i think is called TMDS or something unlike the rgb or vga cables that if for instance you cut red wire in that connection only the red colour disappears in the screen and in digital colour transmission disconnecting a single wire of any colour would mean a lack of a digital colour synchronisation in the receiver so it results in black screen after cutting one of those wires
My projector has two hdmi ports. One of them faulty and gives flickering pink pixels where there is supposed to be white. I wonder if it's something as simple as a loose connection. Whatever wire that shows green has a weak signal, so it only shows blue and red which when combined looks pink. The other hdmi port is fine.
Type A hdmi can tell you what the cable does in the manual, I'll do you a favor and type some things. pins numbered 1-19: (try not to get confused by the incoming wall of text which is listed in order the pins and what they do: TMDS Date 2+, Data 2 Shield, Data 2-, Data 1+, TMDS Data 1 Shield, blah blah blah, first 9 pins are Data Transfer and shielding components (1-9), (10-19 continued): clock connectors: clock+, clock-, clock shield... once you get to 17,18,19 it's very important just to not sever... cause well you need them, it's the ground, the voltage supply: 5V(50mA), then 19 lastly is the HotPlugDetection 1.3 and 1.4+, meaning you need 19 to connect things into a hotplug AKA always on (not entirely sure about that though), 18 = most important for power, 1-9 = important for data transfer. Also neat that you opened a cord and cut with something literally running, but next time you might not want to and just check a manual. No need to reply, take care.
Also, you discuss the dangers of doing this while you're doing it, so I assume you know you shouldn't actually do what you did, but still, learning is half the battle, try to avoid becoming fully integrated with your system AKA (electrocuted)
Here's an experiment for hdmi cable. Connect the hdmi cable wire to a USB A WIRE. AND SEE IF THAT CAN MAKE A USB PORT TO BE USED AS A HDMI PORT. IF THIS WORKS. WOULD BE HELPFUL WITH MY PS4. SINCE IT ONLY HAVE ONE HDMI PORT. MAKE THE USB TO HDMI.
This is probably a joke, but just in case it's not... don't try it. Most bio networks aren't equipped to handle HDMI, and inputting signals your system doesn't recognize can be departmental. If you really want to do HDMI for some reason, I highly suggest speaking with your bionics professional and letting them do it.
I knew immediately that you probably didn't know what your were doing when you used a pair of scissors better suited for trimming nose hair than cutting wire. A craftsman is no better than his tools.
Pues lo que no entiendo es ¿Qué quieres probar. Que cortardo y reconectando los conductores siguenfuncionando, para eso no necesitabas hacer ningun corte logica, ente van a volver a funcionar.
Thank you, your video is very helpful, but did you maybe try tu cut 3 HDMI cables and put them together, so that 1 HDMI can go into PC, or laptop, the second in a HDMI Monitor and the 3th in HDMI LCD, if you know what i try to say? So when I play games, I don't have to constantly remove the HDMI cable from my PC to plug the HDMI cable from my LCD, so it means I can watch both the LCD and the Monitor via my PC.
Lol, the hdmi is not only used for video and sound, same as a home phone cable 4 pairs so 8 wires but only one pair is required 2 wires to recive and make calls and also supply broadband, all the other wires are spares to be used for other stuff.
Nem sempre é assim , pois existem a muito tempo aparelhos que utilizam quatro vias pois desta forma 1 par para fonia e 1 par para dados um exemplo deste é um ks onde é ligado a uma mesa operadora de uma central telefonica
Man I just want to know which wire does hdmi produce sound? I have tv which have hdmi Arc suppot but my 5.1 speakers supports analogue cable just wana make home made Hdmi arc to Analogue converter
You can’t make it. HDMI is full digital signal. It encode with mixed sound and video. You must have decoder only to make sound such as TV, AVR, sound bar, etc. No select one cable to use with analog sound. 😉

what if using rg45 wire (lan) to extend it. ab 5 - 10 meter'or more.
