It was nice to see someone like Digital Foundry siding with GT7. I do think they missed a lot of its strengths, but they did a great job overall apart from downplaying GT7. It's kind of disheartening for me as I've been working on my video for a good three weeks now, and I don't want people to think I'm copying Digital Foundry. It's just so close to their content, even down to switching the watermark. That being said, it's a breath of fresh air for GT7 to receive recognition that isn't overshadowed by big media pushing Forza as the best-looking game ever made.

100% agree with you, partly possibly and easy to see the logic only a biased fanboy would disagree, digital foundry missed alot, I think they were trying to prevent a flame war or fanboy backlash,, or they could just be a bit secretly biased over getting money from Microsoft to be kind to Forza's, either way they downplayed allot of GT strength but the truth can't be denied
I've been working on a video like theirs, but I've gone into a lot more detail than them. I also called out IGN and a random RUclipsr. Now, I'm thinking of adding more content to the video and including all three in the main video. Do you think that's a good idea? I felt they were holding back a lot and it seemed like they really wanted to make Forza look just as good. It's like they were always making excuses for it after criticizing it, if that makes sense. I also noticed that they used PC Forza in some clips. I think I need to rewatch it to confirm because Xbox Forza lacks reflective mirrors outside the car, and in some clips, I thought I saw some mirrors.

Totaly agree with you. They missed a lot of GT 7 masterpiece things, and gave a lot of credit to FM, by saying “they BOTH did an amazing job” multiple times 😂

@@hugostiglitzracing866 not as great as GT7, i mean look at the trees in Forza...dear o dear they suck, and in Forza they put trees everywhere just to cover up the background, and that is difinetely NOT the case in GT. And at night the stars and moon are static in Forza, in GT they use a system that the stars and moon are in the right place according the time of the year...that is having eyes for details....

I got to admit, i do like how you can match your outfits to your car by editing them in GT :) but not a deal breaker for me. Be nice if forza had that tho :)
The suit editor they scuffed on purpose since you can only edit the sides of your trousers like why tf have that restriction
Polyphony prides itself on its games. They stand as celebrations of all things automotive. The closest Forza got to that vision was Forza Motorsport 4 on the 360. It’s my favorite for a reason. With 5, they completely switched directions and its been for the worse ever since.

GT7 is much closer to reality than Forza. I've played both games and GT7 is a masterpiece for me, while Forza is such an unrealistic speedsourdough. GT7 is really in a different league than forza and combined with PSVR2 it's an incredibly immersive experience.

The 'Welcome to Spa' sign, which is at the top of the Eau Rouge, is misspelt in Forza. They spelt 'Welcome' as 'Weclome" 🤣

I'm impressed with the reaction of the paint to the natural light and the bounced lighting on the Tributo. The natural light subtly makes the color look more orange than red in the bounced lighting
The details in gran turismo cars is on a different level. I really enjoy this game.
The paint simulation is also so far ahead of basically any other racing game too. I'd argue Forza has slightly better lighting but that's just because I like the style they went for instead of going all out on being 100% true to life. Others may disagree though. One thing I can say is that at least GT7 had the Nordschleife on launch instead of trying to convince people that they needed to delay the one track instead of the entire game (because of all of the issues it's plagued by).

That amount of orange peel makes any car enthusiast's skin crawl. If you see a Ferrari with paint like that in real life, run tf away cause that thing was painted in your uncle's garage.

From someone who has worked with current and vintage Ferraris on a daily basis I can tell you their paint work has far more imperfections than one would think. Including orange peel on plastic and fiberglass surfaces.

Have people/artists left Turn 10? When i look at GT7's attention to detail/lighting etc, you can see it was built by a passionate team of car lovers. Forza's models look like they were done by artists who either lack the passion or skill for that extra 10% of detail. Yeah it looks good enough at a glance that the majority of players wont even notice.
I always wonder, when they hype up the marketing, do they then come off camera and think, 'I hope that works,' because surely they must own GT7 and have looked into everything within that game.
The artists might not lack the passion or the skill, but the studio might lack money.

In that video John says a line like “…after hearing from Froza fans after the last video (GT Sport vs F7)…”, which led me to believe they succumbed to pressure, maybe even from Turn 10 and/or MS.
With that said DF has for years now being too much about ‘not offending anyone’, and very often they sugarcoat things to please everybody.
Honestly it was weird. John was way more honest when he did the comparison between FM7 and GT Sport which makes no sense because the gap has only widened.

As a Forza player I'm happy to see so many videos calling out motorsport. This game was built on the same engine as horizon which looks so much better. Graphically, it's very disappointing.
I think they see Forza Horizon as their strength in the Forza franchise now, and they have prioritized it over FM23.
@@AutomotiveVP Cause an arcade game is easy to build, the car detail is not there, for instant, in Horizon when a car lands on his roof the underside of the car is just a black surface, no detail at all. And i dont understand that Horizon is so praised, theyr are better open world arcads game out there. MUNCH BETTER.

gran turismo attention to detail is still unmatched , the shaders , colors and lightings are just more realistic , the only thing it lacks is in race ray tracing
Forza is the perfect example of why game pass ruins the quality of games. Terrible outdated models, missing shifting animations, lack of detail...If it'll just be thrown onto a sub, a lot of complacency starts to creep in. Why bother? It's a race to the bottom to make something good enough instead of as great as possible.
Exactly they focus isn't how do we make a great game for players it's how do we make this profitable on gamepass , cutting costs , cutting corners can't stand that anti consumer garbage if they actually had to sell Forza then maybe they would have tried harder
Playing gran turismo since gt4. Even the psp version. There is no series that still delivers this high standard of quality like gran turismo. And even when you think it cant get better, they come up with a new gran turismo that makes everything even better than the old one.

I became a fan of this series not so long ago, and when GT7 came out I was disappointed that there are quite a few cars compared to GT6 where there were more than 1000.
But with such elaboration and quality of cars it is easy to forgive them, you can spend hours looking at the car
Forza is to GT7 what Lords of the Fallen is to Dark Souls.
Even with newest cars for forza witch still can look good, dosen’t quite able to match gt7 detail, and when you out forza old car models in the mix its like campare games 2 gens apart,

I like to see the difference though, where gt is more focused in the car itself, forza paid more attention to the tracks. I like that difference, no need to trash one in favor of the other (I’m a gt player anyway)

Does everyone remember when FM4 or 5 had the showroom feature on Xbox 360, and the cars had proper reflections in the paint? THAT was Forza at its peak. That’s when Motorsport and Horizon was fun and damn good. Now, it just feels like both games are arcades that share models in order to decrease the time it takes to make a new game.
On the GT side, it now takes them quite a few years to release a new game because the developers CARE. From GT1 to now, all they’ve cared about was making the best racing sim possible that is easily accessible for everyone.

I cannot have both a good PC and a PS5, so I have a great PC because I can play more games and of course the highly moded AC, but I'm very disappointed with Forza. It does not look close to GT and the performance is very poor. Like AC looks real life on my PC. I'll buy a PS5 to play GT someday.
Ive seen enough to think GT7 is hands down the better and realistic looking game.
But Im all in for a in deep physics comparison. I think this would be much harder to show and communicate -kind of - objectively, hope you pull it off.

I am a PC/Xbox Fan, but I have PS4 too, and I need to admit those Gran Turismo games are made with a lot more "love" than the Forza series
Don’t get me wrong Forza look and plays good but GT has always been far more superior and has always been the more premium product compared to the competition
To see the valve inside the exhaust on GT7 is an INSANE detail. The developers of GT know that the gamer is going to see every part of the car, so why not model it properly? Forza had squared seats, for no reason, whereas GT7 has properly modeled seats. Unreal.
I feel like some Forza cars like iffy because they port models over from previous games versus making new models from the ground up every time.
Neither game's visuals can touch Driveclub. That game is still insane 10 years later.
And even the fact that GT7 supports VR while FM doesn‘t is a huge extra point for GT7.
I say this all the time! VR is a game-changer, and videos don't do it justice.
@@AutomotiveVP I don‘t know why Game Devs don‘t add VR support additionally. I know in general it‘s Not so easy to implement this but as a big Game Company it shouldn‘t be that hard, you know? Imagine for example FH5 with VR or a GTA with proper VR Mode.

the one thing forza (horizon 5, because I think it's not even in motorsport) got better than gran turismo is the ray tracing thing that can show the reflection of the parts of the car on itself. like: rear view mirrors, spoilers, kanards, anything that sticks out really.
One thing I do prefer in Forza is the slight orange peel in the paint, though for something like a Ferrari it's a little unrealistic.

Yeah, I was hyped about Forza. mainly because I couldn't wait to try it in PCVR. Then that wasn't supported. I even pre-ordered it so I can get it a few days early. Then I launched the game, and I thought "This couldn't be that game that they're talking about right? I can't even tell the difference between FM7 Graphics and FM(8) without a special buzzwords. The art is exactly the same, (or at least appeared to me that way), and finally, I haven't even touched forza. They didn't even have the proper tracks I race at except laguna seca. Sure GT does have Streets of Willow and Big Willow, but it's that much more than Forza. And GT accurately models the vegetation in the environment so I can remember my markers. (AC with CM Patch does this too).
Forza is still a good game with detail most games don't come close to, it's just that Gran Turismo is so far ahead of all the other Sim racers there really isn't a comparison. Why we still don't have clutch on controller is beyond me.

Good job! Forza was the reason I bought Xbox. They are excellent since 360, Motorsport and Horizon. The problem is that they are too "Arcade", they have something of a simulation but it's not enough to beat the GT. Since GT7 came out I haven't stopped playing it. So since I bought the PS VR2, the pleasure and immersion have become even better. Attention, I'm not saying that I don't like the Forza saga, I have many hours playing Motorsport and Horizon. But I've already driven 300 hours or more in the GT7 and I'm not going to stop so quickly.
I'm not a Sony or Microsoft fanboy, I'm just a gamer who likes to enjoy good games, but against facts there are no arguments. Gran Turismo 7 was a huge "leap", and for anyone who is a fan of cars, it is a work of art, a visual and audible symphony. Good games everyone and take care. Peace!

omg, I never saw this kind of comparison, it seems gt7 crushes forza in these details... and the fact you're showcasing it in VR is mindblowing, it should look awful in comparison, but they manage to keep the details at least in the showroom. (foveated rendering making it's magic)

They can't put too much detail for support lagacy AVX-1 hardware on FM8. Compare to GT7 that maybe they build game on AVX-512 vector extention.
I've only seen a few of your videos and you have been completely honest and fair. I agree with everything you've said so far. And honestly the proof is seriously there. Right there in front of our eyes. Xbox and their exclusives live off of their name and that's about it. PlayStation and their groundbreaking exclusives live up to their name. I personally don't touch my Xboxs anymore. I played them for so long and have thousands of games but I'm ashamed to admit I ever played Xbox more than PlayStation. Sure the 360 was better overall than the PS3 but barely and that's it. PlayStation and GT are in a complete different category. I'll probably never touch assbox again. Personally. i never went into Forza but,i know of what you speak of and i can see at Forza flaws of details,like on ps4 the checkerboard resolution,which pc community immediatelly reffered as terrible,but,at the end,i don't care if some tinny details aren't perfect but they look good and feel good,after a while,lol..playing Horizon Zero Dawn 7y ago at 2160p and it was amazing💪

When you are on track with a car in forza if you pan the camera so you can see the car from the side, slowly accelerate from stopped and check the wheel animation as you speed up. They use an ancient 90s tech which i have seen only in need for speed 1 for msdos/2D and forza. @@AutomotiveVP

Sony will never let it happen, for this exact reason. People like me, who are considering getting a playstation because of how much better a job Gran Turismo is doing. Forza is the only Xbox exclusive game I have. So if I jump ship I wouldn’t lose anything, and Sony knows there’s a lot of people like me. Only thing really keeping me is gamepass.

Both gt7 and Forza motorsport are exceptional racing games, gamers today are just spoiled. I remember playing gt1 on ps1 and having the time of my life never having experienced something like that before. Todays games have much better graphics, physics, changing weather, multiplayer on and on yet all we hear is bitching about one thing or another. Give it a rest

We can say that Gran Turismo 7 is a simulation that uses the accelerated rendering engine. In this way, material calculations and shadow calculations are better. I don't understand why this comparison is made so often. One is art, I don't know what the other is, it makes me sick to my stomach.
For a very long time I felt as if Turn10 was actually trying to make good games, and I always enjoyed the Motorsport games. I never got much into FM7 so I was very excited for the new one. I knew it would be a struggle because I played a ton of FH4 and FH5 I still play all the time. Then I got the new Motorsport and I just find it very difficult to play it, the excitement is very much not there like it use to. Mind you at the same time I grew up getting into console sim racing because of GT, but I have had no interest to play a GT game either. I am very disappointed with Turn10 and I really hope they do everything they can to actually update and improve this game over time.
you are actually correct. I only played Forza because of gamepass PC, and Granturismo 7 looks way better. The Japanese are just that meticulous and perfectionists. Western devs (and even car manufacturers) are just sub par.

Forza has always had a "cartoon" look to their cars, and a ton of people used to say that it looked better than the equivalent year GT. I never shared that opinion. To me, GT has always had better looking cars.

I play project cars three now instead of Forza. Better car models and better sounds, the cars feel so real and tracks have bumps. It’s not the highest on graphics but it’s 4 years old haha
It’s like the difference between getting an actual PlayStation 5, and the Chinese lookalike PowerStation 5 your nan gets you for Christmas from the dodgy market because it includes 100 built in games, where as the real one is expensive and doesn’t even include a game.

people just don't understand that we critizise the things we love because we want them to be better and not because we hate them. we compare them to the competition not to put them into the ground but for them to go better or even surpass the competition. we want things to be competitive otherwise all we get is generic trash.

I have been a Forza guy from F2-F5 but I just got GT7 and I totaly agree. My brother has Forza Motorsport on series X so I have seen the diffrece myself. Forza has always been an arcade game to me, especially with the physics. When GT3 was all the rage I had my copy on reserve at Electronics Boutique. When I finally picked up my copy, I bought my first PS2. Forza never compared.
Edit: The only gripe I've really had with the GT series is too much reverb on the engine sounds. Not enough raw grunt.

If Sony asked Polyphony to make a horizon style game alongside gran turismo, the forza franchise and Xbox as a whole would lose a LOT of money. Especially because you KNOW polyphony would set at least the first one in Japan, imagine their attention to detail in the environment they would have. It would be the most scenic video game of all time.
Kazunori yamauchi mention he is not interested in gran turismo being open world game it highly unlikely
Hi there, I tend to agree with you. There is a difference between the two games. GT is slightly better. Very close, but it is one step ahead. Only a blind man can't see it. Talking about the visuals of the games. Although, Im a PC gamer, so GT means nothing for me. And FM looks very good, anyway. Hope they come up one step next game out. But for now Im more than happy. Not in the show room, in race, they don't have the car models as good as that, but your can't really tell Not in the showroom, but in the race, the car models aren't as high-quality. However, it's hard to notice the difference during gameplay.

Forgot to add ... GT is on a playstation ... Forza is on PC and Xbox Series X ... the big difference here is .. needs to run on hundreds of thousands of hardware combinations .... GT .. just one ..
