I have a special place in my heart for 15, and always will, that being said, it was rumored that 15 was supposed to be a triology much like FF7, and I'm wondering if that trilogy treatment could atone for some of the flaws i.e. outside media & characters are rushed cause there just wasn't enough time or events to have the gradual growth. FF7 is not complete story wise so it doesn't feel the need to be rushed on the character front - theres still room for them to grow and its not like all of their troubles have to be resolved by the 30 hour mark. I think this allows them to have more "genuine" moments rather than exposition dumps. I think FF7 has multiple benefits going for it which has made it "objectively better" among the majority: being an older title with an established fanbase, and the Final Fantasy name riding on its back - I think that alone makes 7 something important on the financial side of Square, so they had to ensure the quality of it (such as redeveloping it in house). I can yield that FF7 remake is the objectively better game in terms of polish. Despite it all, I FFXV is still such a special game to me, and it'll always rank among my favorites.

I had never heard of that. I always heard XV was supposed to be *part* of a trilogy with 13 and Type-0. That being said, I don't think it needed a trilogy, as someone who loved the game, it just needed more work. All those Episode DLCs and the Royal Pack and all those events most of which you cant even access anymore especially reaffirm my belief that for however much I love the base game, and I can't emphasize that enough, it'll forever feel fragmented and it's a mistake that should never happen again. That being said, I think 7R is overall the better game, at the very least the better more polished experience, although so far I'm still entirely preferring 15's story and themes, and the recent trailer for Rebirth hasn't changed my mind on that.

Great comparison and a little history of the series. 15 real confused me with how many extra things they added on (movie, etc.) to get the entire story. Think 7 has just become too iconic at times that it will always get that extra love by the developer. Not a bad thing I might add.

    • @lightknight172
      @lightknight172  2 года назад +2

Ya, I agree. 15 honestly can be confusing with how much extra material you had to see to understand it. Because of how iconic 7 is. It’s always going to get quite a bit of attention. I love 7 so I don’t mind though. Thanks for the comment!

I’d give ff15 magic a deeper look before writing it off completely. Yes it’s not needed to beat the game or most of its enemies. But for those who want to deal 100k damage, reach lv 100+, and defeat the games hidden dungeons and hardest bosses, magic is ESSENTIAL. You can reach max lv 120 with all characters, I dare anyone to try without magic. (Don’t try without magic, you’ll give up or spend years trying)

Okay let me start by saying FF15 is the first FF game I finished since the original FF7 when it first released on PS one. No game captivated me like 15 did in a long long while. Something about it just hooked me. After playing this I jumped into FF7 remake. I have to be honest here, I didn't have that same feeling. I was playing the game as if I was supposed to love it rather than actually loving it. I'm not saying it's bad. I know it's an amazing game but I enjoyed FF15 so much that it 7 didn't do it for me. I stopped my play a bit into it while I got stuck in the subway battle. Not sure if I'll go back but FF15 wins my heart.

I just finished FF7 remake and this video popped up. Great video! In my case, FF7R is not a bad game but I think it suffered too much from being overhyped and shot my expectations up waaay too high. I might get hated for this but...
I started FF7 remake right after XV after hearing so many people going 'FFXV sucked' 'FFXV's combat is the worst' 'FF7 remake is the best, its a masterpiece' 'Noct is boring and emo, Cloud is the best boy' 'FFXV's story is stupid and rushed' etc etc. I've never played the original FF7 but I did know the story from way back when so there's no nostalgia in it for me. I thought it was going to be super amazing and hella convinced it was going to be worth my money.
I was really sold on FF7R being the greatest FF ever made and......wow okay, how do I put this nicely? Erm....its basically Final Fantasy Hallway Simulator. After jumping in from FFXV, FF7R was so bland and lifeless. Midgar, Shinra HQ and Aeriths house was so nice to see, but just to get from point A to Point B was so so unnecessarily padded and dragged on and on. And after awhile, the copy pasted slums and ruins got a tad bit old.
XV had so much banter, things to do, even the loading screens had more life than FF7R. It was just corridor after pointless corridor and absolutely banal dialogue of just Barret yelling at you. I love Tifa to bits, shes IS the best girl, but I felt her and Aerith's personality were stripped to be just Cloud fangirls. Side quests were kinda pointless in FF7R as well.
And this is coming from me who LOVED chapter 13 of FFXV -- i mean at one point, abusing the need to go round corridors just to stretch out gameplay is just too much. And somehow the same people who say FFXIII is the worst love FF7R, a game that was infamous for linear corridors too. I also enjoyed the extra media we got from FFXV-- it was so fun to be immersed in the world again and to see it in different styles.
The combat in FFXV was hella addictive with Noct's warping and as soon as I finished FF7R, I jumped back into FFXV and boy was it a breath of fresh air. XV story made me ugly sob so hard my eyes were swollen the next day and wishing we had more, whilst FF7R made me cheer with relief it finally ended.
I'm really jealous of those who enjoyed FF7R, i truly truly wanted to love it.

I hope you enjoy 15, I certainly did. Also, before playing 15, you should watch the movie Kingslaive because it has info important to understanding the story of the game. FFXV actually delivered on it's name, as the journey as a whole ended up being a "final fantasy" for Noctis, he knew there would be nothing after it for him, but still went on with it. Combat wise FF7R did better job personally, the boy squad felt kind of dull to use as you would mostly just spam attack and blink with Noctis and it didn't feel as enjoyable as stuff that you could pull of in FF7R.

I’m really glad I found this video. I was thinking on getting started on the Final Fantasy games and looked it up for what is the story behind it, the best games and all, and got to the conclusion I should start with either 7 remake or 15, but didn’t know which as I was confused on how much they are alike and different, as some say good and bad things about either (some of which that are totally non important details to me)
But with this video I have a better vision of both of them. I personally don’t think too much of graphics and music in most of games, and enjoy quite a lot open worlds rather than liner based. (I enjoy both, but open worlds are personally better)

I agree with everything you said, except the padded out argument, I don't understand that argument, more is better for a game you love, FFXV is also padded out too if you want to get the full experience. That being said both game are amazing, I gotta say FFXV took me by surprise the second time I played it, I loved it more the second time around than the first, and I think that's where the problem begins, most people play a game once for the story and moves on, unfortunately that's not a good first impression when you're missing 70% of the game. You need to play all the side quests and all the dlc to truly appreciate the game, the game is more about taking your time and exploring, so you'll be rewarded with 100+ hours of gameplay. But most people will rush through the story in 30 hours or so, and it will be filled with plot holes, where the player will not get attached to the characters or the impactful scenes. To me that's FFXV biggest design flaw, while FF7R forces the player to experience the full game from start to finish, I think that the best approach for the games going forward.

    • @lightknight172
      @lightknight172  2 года назад

You raise a lot of great points. From my point of view, in 15. All of the dlc’s are for the most part concise and to the point. There isn’t too much down time in the dlc’s. They’re properly paced. Also, there were a lot of pointless side missions in the game that didn’t add much to the overall experience. My issue with the padding in 7 remake isn’t that I don’t want more out of the game. It’s that the sections in the game where that have padding are in my opinion. Dull and I feel like they don’t add anything to the game. They just feel like filler. So I think it would’ve been better if they were trimmed down. That said. I see where your coming from. You made a lot of great points.

After I finished FF VII Remake and Rebirth, a friend recommended XV to me.
And I have to say that the 15 has grown on me even more than any other part I've played.
I love open world, real-time battles and I don't even need to start with the Regalia (Type D).
When I think of FFVII's graphics, the wall.jpg 😅 of Midgar is always the first thing that comes to mind.
In the 15th, everything is "alive" up to the horizon and the day-night cycle also brings in dynamism.
And I also particularly like the little things, such as Noctis getting dirty from fighting and fishing, or his hairstyle no longer being neat due to the rain.
I also like the dynamic between the guys more.
In the 7, I'm particularly bothered by the whining and pushy nature of Tifa's character.
The story of 15 is a bit confusing, I don't want to contradict that, but since I know or have all the media around, I can figure out the connections.
The story of 7 is largely known, but now the changes make the story more complicated for players who know the original.
Since I've found Zack to be my favorite FFVII character since Crisis Core, I'm naturally very excited to see how he fits into the whole story.
All in all, I'm really looking forward to the third part of the 7. But the 15 will probably remain number one for me for the time being.

Somnus is a legendary song. U can recognize it from the first 3- 5 notes. My only disappointment with 15 is that the story could have been so much better and the combat flow could have been smoothed out a bit more. Otherwise I feel it beats ff7 remake in every other aspect, the linear story reeling in ff7 and it’s side missions were boring, the combat is good but it feels like they got ff15 and tweaked it to the point of it being too rigid. I still dont think the story was told very well in the game itself since a lot of it is out of order but I do agree having a full understanding of the story makes it one of the best FF games. I actually prefer it to FF7 now after a replay but that came with outside sources helping me to get better character development (books) and a comprehensive story (ff13 wiki) but to anyone who just plays the games without outside sources then FF7 is better as a standalone. To be fair no game should make you read a book to help you care for its characters.

As someone whose first JRPG was FFVII and who grew up with the series, Remake was a once in a lifetime experience and the kind of game I doubted present day Square Enix was capable of making.
It's not perfect - I hated how they handled certain plot elements, especially when they diverged from the original (Intergrade was better about this - you know what I'm referring to) but overall, the soundtrack, visuals, characterisation and combat were all top notch.
XV on the other hand, I never finished, though that was more due to memory leak/crashing issues on the PC version. It's a radical departure from more traditional entries in the series, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I can feel the development hell as I play it. The open world is cool and all, but once the novelty value wears off, it just feels a bit too barren for my tastes. The story has its moments but it's too disjointed for me (separate DLC episodes, Kingsglaive, etc). Points for effort though.

15 is better for long term play, as in going back for short bursts of gameplay. Also FF7R has the worst narrative I’ve ever experienced. An absolute snoozefest of a story. The story for FFXV actually kept me invested- then again, I am talking about the complete Windows edition with all the DLC (not counting Ardyn). Got FF7R Intergrade for pc too, but I’m seriously considering skipping the main game and playing the Intergrade chapter instead. Never have I been so disappointed by hype as I have by FF7’s story. I blame the rabid fanbase for this, as well as myself from having watched Advent Children and played Crisis Core to 100% completion twice…

I didn't play FF15 on launch. I waited for the royal edition to go on sale and nabbed the Arden Chapter all for a criminally low price of 8 bucks. I was blown away with the freedom included. I was used to overworld with a tight focus on it's narrative but with 10 I felt it going a way I just wasn't into. I tried 13 and was just so bored with it. I wasn't into what 14 had to offer but 15 had my attention. I was in the dark with the FF13 Versus so I had no idea about the turbulent production of 15 but I do not regret my purchase. 7 Remake on the other hand I just wasn't into on announcement and am not impressed with what I see of it. I love the classic 7 and I was in the minority with not wanting a remake at all. Not because it's special but I just feel Square needs to make more original content and stop milking nostalgia. Sorry if that was long.

I know that sounds petty but the original cast left a huge impression. This new one doesn't, I really want to get Crisis Core Reunion but the voice cast has changed and Zack sounds flat. I wish I wasn't so picky but I might give 10 and 10-2 another go.

I prefer XV. XV is my favorite. It just everything I wanted from a Final Fantasy since VIII. A contemporary aesthetic, a free form combat with multiple weapons along side seamless team ups with your Chocobros. An immaculate soundtrack penned by Yoko Shimomura. A tragic story about legacy and brotherhood. The game is as long or are brief as you want it to be and most of all, it has heart. I replayed Remake recently and while an outstanding game on to itself, it's a game that stands on the shoulders of something that was already successful. It's music interpretations can become obnoxious and the pacing, particularly chapter 14th, make me dread any repeat playthroughs while FFXV has no such thing for me. I rather 100 times explore Costlemark Tower in search of the Sword of the Tall than play through the Drum and have to swap materia back and forth.

Amazing video, great work, keep it up.
However, I would like to say that I am not sold on any Final Fantasy, mostly due to the character models and play style. I am not a JRPG person and it's too late to shift. Bring be Witcher, RDRs, Mass Effects, Dragon Ages, Cyberpunk or DOS any day everyday.
Out of the two you compared, I like the FFXV more due to its open world however could not finish it. Also, I am one of the minorities to say it out loud that I hated Elden Ring but loved Sekiro just for the opposite reason (you appreciate an open world when there are things you can do in it, other than padding your stats).
Nonetheless, I appreciate and respect that we all have different opinions and that's what makes this world beautiful and interesting.

Final Fantasy 15 is better coz it’s one story contained to one game, rather than splitting one game over 3 and stretching it so extremely thin, that they have to create ways to waste your time to stop you finishing the game too quickly. I know this doesn’t mention Rebirth as it wasn’t out at the time of this coming out but man the story is so thin in that and filled with time wasting aspects that I’m not getting the 3rd part.

Chapter 11 should not have had that side story with the ghosts and I think it would have been better as a side quest. Returning to the sewers in chapter 14 does not add much imo, the backstory with Leslie could have been told elsewhere. Man I have this hope that after square enix is done with ff16 and the ff7 trilogy.
They go back and "remake" ff15.
Not a full on remake but if they go back
And make extra content make the DLC that's missing and in that novel
Try to make the events in the movie take place in the game, have a op character moment playing as the king or something.
Give us a younger noctis area to play in or multipal playable flashbacks that develops noctis relationships with luna and the king.
Ff15 was such a good game with so much more potential that it failed to deliver and thats with its story because there's so much outside media to take it all In but if you do that, there's a very good story with alot of lore
They don't gotta start over the main game is already there basically im asking make 3 or 4 more DLCs, and make the in game story transition naturally into the dlc sections
Keep everything the royal edition had.
I think its possible for square now that the sold off the extra fat tomb raider, dues ex, etc and can focus on the types of games they do best which this summer game fest they announced 3 big games,
Shows they can pump out good games fast again now.

I've played 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-X, 12, 13, 15, 7R. I can tell you 12 was my lease favourite, and 13 was straight up blasphemy for me. 7, 8, 10, 15 were my favourite. If have to pick a special, it would be 8 for me. All the bad reviews i read and watched about 15 was mostly people who didn't play it correctly. 15 is not rushed or incomplete in my opinion. It's meant to be played differently than other in the series. 15 is meant to be explored and enjoyed non linearly. Most of the story, lore, and character developments are woven into the open world side quests and hidden explorations. I racked up over 200 hours in a single playthrough, there's just so much content. That's not even counting the DLCs.

final fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake and world final fantasy are the best in the world and Final Fantasy 15 it had a lot of crushing problems and final fantasy 15 i don't know it looks hard to leave up in the game and the monster are hard too and the game is too big and I gave final fantasy 15 5 out of 10 and final fantasy 13 i like the battle systems you don't have to move around and it easy and final fantasy 15 battle systems is not that good and 15 is the it worse game and final fantasy 13 did really well

FF fans can be difficult to talk to since they are so divided by what they consider a good final fantasy game and dont like it when you don't like their game. FF7 in particular brings the worst, most annoying fans I've ever had the displeasure of talking to.

Combat is definitely too easy in 15. That’s something I preferred about 7 Remake’s combat.

I have to credit XV with making Final Fantasy relevant to me again. I’m not an MMO guy and I did not enjoy XII or XIII. So yeah, XV was a breath of fresh air for me.
With that said, FFVII Remake was a mind blowing masterpiece and legitimately one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. This isn’t even a real contest for me.

XV got me interested in Final Fantasy so it’s pretty relevant for me. And I agree with you, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a masterpiece.
