I’ve always had the same mindset too. From literally being raised around violence to a point where my stepdad was close to murdering my mom and my brothers including I. It changes you. It both ways. In a way after that I’ve been very easy going about everything. Ya everything sucks. But at least I’m alive. I enjoy pain because it lets me know it’s real. Ya everything sucks but everything is gonna suck regardless. But I learned to just go with the flow with things. It’s easier for me to just let things go. This is a great video regarding this topic. I don't think I've seen anyone explain it much better than you did. Happiness isn't a thing that you can always guarantee for yourself, and tricking yourself into thinking that others or the environment are obligated to give it to you will just continue to make you more miserable. Finding acceptance in the worst parts of life and using them to guide your future thoughts and choices will ultimately bring you the most happiness. The hardest truth to accept is that you can guarantee your own happiness, but if and only if you decide to for yourself. As I kept watching the video I had to edit this to agree more. Self actualization, finding pride in something that you've done all on your own without any assistance is one of the best kinds of encouragement you can get when trying to find your own happiness. Other people will NEVER give you the same amount of praise and accomplishment that you give yourself, because others can't understand or fully appreciate the true achievement of what you've done. The hardest part of self-actualization is that people can get lazy, and won't set their expectations for success or accomplishment reasonably. This can lead to a lack of fulfillment, or worse a feeling of over-importance or ego. The most important part is to understand your place in your personal process, to know when you can justifiably let yourself feel that achievement, and when you need to do more before you can.
My grandfather was a POW and when he gained freedom, he whittled wood. He probably did whittle wood (and no innuendo)the years he was in the POW camp. 6 years as a prisoner in his 20s I remember that from my infant years. Whittle wood. Don’t get upset.
