This is what is missing in my life. I have been a long time Christian, but always have worried about my salvation. I attended a denomination where you must have good works all of your life to prove your salvation and you will never know if you are saved. I realize that this is a false doctrine that will lead you to hell. I have believed in Jesus for eternal life for about one week now, which I learned from your magazine. Now I sleep at night peacefully. God bless you all!

The gospel call to faith presupposes that sinners must repent of their sin and yield to Christ’s authority.” In other words, a sinner who refuses to repent is not saved, for he cannot cling to his sin and the Savior at the same time. And a sinner who rejects Christ’s authority in his life does not have saving faith, for true faith encompasses a surrender to God. Thus the gospel requires more than making an intellectual decision or mouthing a prayer; the gospel message is a call to discipleship. The sheep will follow their Shepherd in submissive obedience.
      Jesus’ repeated warnings to the religious hypocrites of His day as proof that simply agreeing to spiritual facts does not save a person. There must be a heart change. Jesus emphasized the high cost of discipleship: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27), and “Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (verse 33). In the same passage, Jesus speaks of counting the cost;
elsewhere, He stresses total commitment: “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says that eternal life is a narrow path found by “only a few” (Matthew 7:14); in contrast, some seek to broaden the path so that anyone who has a profession of faith can enter. Jesus says that “every good tree bears good fruit” (verse 17); in contrast, some say that a tree can still be good and bear nothing but bad fruit. Jesus says
that many who say “Lord, Lord” will not enter the kingdom (verses 21-23); in contrast, some teach that saying “Lord, Lord” is good enough.
      Paul and James
taught that a true profession of faith will be backed up by evidence of faith. If a person is truly following the Lord, then they will obey the Lord’s instructions. A person who is living in willful, unrepentant sin has obviously not chosen to follow Christ, because Christ calls us out of sin and into righteousness. Indeed, the Bible clearly teaches that faith in Christ will result in a changed life
      2 Corinthians 5:17
      Galatians 5:22-23
      James 2:14-26

To conflate the subjective mental state of assurance in every looming circumstance at the point one calls on the Name of the Savior with the conveyance of the desired eternal result in the change in eternal standing is not exactly different from what Calvinists believe with the sole exception thereof of the extent of the provision of the atonement. Both require a supernatural subjective human experience and change in mental state of some sort to accompany the required belief. I cannot produce the assurance of the sort that only God can accomplish within me.

    Wilkin rightly points out :
    "Questions for the Non-Assurance View
I have four questions for Bill and others who do not believe that assurance is of the essence of saving faith.
Question 1: What is it that a person believes that Jesus will do for him? Can a person believe in Jesus and yet at the same time believe that he must persevere in good works to make it into the kingdom? Well, it depends on what he believes that Jesus will do for him as a result of his belief. A person might believe in Jesus for a good marriage, for financial prosperity, or for good physical health, and not be assured that he has everlasting life because he never believed that Jesus would give him that simply by faith in Him. But a person can’t believe in Jesus for everlasting life (John 3:16; 4:10-14; 5:24; 6:35; 11:26; 1 Tim 1:16) and yet not be assured that he has everlasting life.
Question 2: If assurance of eternal life is not required, then wouldn’t that mean that those who believe in works salvation are born again? Most people in Christianity believe in works salvation (Matt 7:21-23), yet most would also say that they have “trusted Christ for salvation,” to use an expression Bill used. If assurance is not required, then Roman Catholics are born again. So are Eastern Orthodox. So are Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses. So are Church of Christ, Nazarenes, Seven Day Adventists, and just about everyone in Christianity. (See my answer to Bill’s second question 2, above.)
So the goal in evangelism, in this view, would be what? It would be to get people to believe that because they believe in Jesus they may spend eternity with Jesus in His kingdom. That doesn’t sound quite right. Maybe people holding the non-assurance view would say that people must believe that at the very moment of faith they are saved, though they need not believe that salvation lasts. Once again, there would be no need to evangelize anyone within Christianity.
Question 3: If a person must believe that the sole condition of eternal life is faith in Christ, not faith plus works, then doesn’t that rule out the non-assurance view? This is a variation on the previous question. Let’s say a person believes, as most in Christianity do, that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, that He died on the cross for his sins, and that He rose bodily from the dead. Is a person who believes those things necessarily born again? Most in Free Grace circles would say no because most would say that the person must believe that eternal life or salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, not by faith plus works. Under the non-assurance view, what does the “believer” believe that he has a result of believing in Jesus Christ? He believes that if he lives for Christ and perseveres in serving Him till death, then he will gain everlasting life that can never be lost. It seems to me that if we argue that one must believe in the freeness of the gift of eternal life, then we must agree that assurance is of the essence of saving faith.
Question 4: Shouldn’t we evangelize the way the Lord Jesus Christ evangelized? When Jesus evangelized, He stressed the eternality of the life the believer has. Shouldn’t we follow our Lord’s example (WWJD)? In John 3:16 Jesus said that the one who believes in Him will not perish but has everlasting life. In John 6:35 He said that the one who eats the bread of life will never hunger again- a clear statement on eternal security. And he told Martha that the one who lives and believes in Him will never die spiritually. It is clear that the Lord was calling people to believe on him for everlasting life. It makes sense to me that we should say what He said."

      Question 1-
      Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
      1 John 4:15
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
I do not see any mention of believing in eternal security or in Jesus' promises in those passages, and yet it describes them being saved.
The main question is, what counts as "believing in Jesus"? The Bible seems to have many answers for this. And there are 2 possible stances to take- One must believe *all* of them in order to be saved, or if one believes *any* of them, then they are saved.
      Included in the answers are-
Asking Jesus for eternal life (John 4:10)
Believing Jesus is the Son of God (1 John 4:15, Acts 8:37)
Confessing Jesus while believing He rose from the dead (Romans 10:9)
Believing Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
And many more. Most of these ways have nothing to do with eternal life. It seems believing something *about* Jesus counts as believing *in* Him if that thing is that He is the Son of God or rose from the dead, which has nothing to do with eternal security or not.
      Question 2-
Matthew 7 explicitly states it is talking to false prophets and people who do not believe in Jesus. It contrasts them with those who do the will of the Father, which is to believe on Jesus. If you meet the conditions mentioned in my answer to question 1, you have done the will of the Father, and do not fit the false prophet definition, and thus will not be rebuked as having never known Jesus.
You are assuming there is a need to evangelize within Christianity in part of this question. I do not believe there is a need to evangelize someone who professes to believe in Jesus. Now, is there a need to correct false teachings? Absolutely. That's what a large number of letters in the New Testament are- corrections to Christians (sometimes very stern ones). But they are not evangelizing them.
Question 3- A person must believe one of any of the things the Bible mentions they must believe in order to be saved, and then they are saved. Eternal Security is one of those ways, but is not the only way, as demonstrated in the answer to Question 1.
Question 4- We should absolutely try to get people to believe the truth. And the truth involves Jesus giving eternal life to those that believe, and that once someone is saved, they're always saved. However, that doesn't mean those that believe in Jesus but are wrong in other doctrinal areas are unsaved. Our style of evangelism has nothing to do with that.

      Curious :
If someone simply believes that Jesus of Nazareth existed , do they have Everlasting Life - according to every Evangelistic encounter Jesus had in Scripture ?
Or , let's say , that He existed - plus belief that He died on a Cross ?
Plus ...(fill in any additional attributes/works that He performed) but never believes in Him for His doubtless Guarantee of Everlasting Life (John 4:10-14,5:24,6:28-47,11:23-27). Rather , this one thinks that one's behavioral performance (works) are decisive in one's eternal destination ?
One cannot disbelieve in Him for what He certifies , and yet "believe" in Him biblically .
His central claim as the Guarantor of endless Life to all who simply believe in Him for it is not a "result" of believing incidental "stuff" about Him , but rather the very content and object of His Promise .
This , Paul explicitly declared in 1 Timothy 1:16 . This echoes through every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life passage .
Matthew 7:21-23 lays bare all who "on that day" point to their "mighty works done IN HIS NAME" , as surefire evidence of their claims to Kingdom entrance .
Yet , their extremely well intentioned efforts do not avail . These are they who call Him "Lord , Lord ..." , incidentally (Lordship Salvation adherents) .
Noone is eternally saved by "sincerity" . Instead , faith in Him for what He actually affirms about Himself (as the Christ who gives the free gift of Everlasting Life by simple childlike faith) , alone sets the anchor in the water , forever .
The book of John was written explicitly for the purpose of Evangelism (20:31) . It's contents only affirm the doubt free Promise that is the only message whereby one is irreversibly born again : John 1:12-13,3:1-18,4:10-14,5:24,6:28-47,11:23-27 .

@Tim Grady my questioning of it is from this "Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God."
      1 John 4:13‭-‬15 KJV
"Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost."
      1 Corinthians 12:1‭-‬3 KJV
"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
      Acts 8:36‭-‬37 KJV
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
      Romans 10:8‭-‬11 KJV
I do know that 1st John at least to me is complex and I'm only now getting some understanding of it in the past week, so like I said to the other person I'm not 100% on either side, very similarly i know Romans 10 is a heavily debated or talked about passage. I'm not saying for sure these are in context, but they do along with 1 corinthians 15:1-4 make wonder if all one needs to be saved is Trusting the testimony that Jesus was the Son of God and savior of the world who was raised from the dead even if they don't understand correctly the means of their salvation other than being unable to do it without him they belive the testimony of him, and say things that i have a hard time just blanketly dismissing them as unsaved or wolves and sheep clothes as referenced in that Mathew chapter i believe, which i thought was false prophets that you would know by there words[fruits]. Which in this case doesn't seem to add up, and points to the opposite as they confess things Christ being the Risen & the Son of God. I do believe in Christ for eternal life and that we can't lose it, here's a verse I just saw today you could add to the security verses btw "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
      John 3:36 KJV
I'm tired and may have to look over yours more thoroughly again, but i'd like to hear your take as well on these as there's people who believe those things about him and they don't seem to be insignificant or incidental in the verses above.

      Thanks for your thoughts .
One needs to go to the clearest contexts first . Then , work backwards .
      Not the reverse .
As such , the book of John remains the only book with the express purpose statement as Evangelistic (20:31) .
It claims to contain the only message of Everlasting Life whereby one is irreversibly born again .
Not once in its pages is repentance/turning from all sins till death a necessary condition of Everlasting Life .
Nor belief in His attributes/works He performed (Death, Burial, Resurrection etc ) .
The disciples didn't understand any of that till after His resurrection , yet were born again in John 2.
Nowhere in any Evangelistic/Everlasting Life passage are attributes/works of Jesus the content & object of saving faith .
Thus , it remains true that Evangelizing as Jesus did is the only method whereby one can be born again with Everlasting Life .

Bob Wilkin clarifies the Object of saving faith :
"A week ago (March 20) I received this excellent email question:
I am re-reading The Ten Most Understood Words in the Bible. I am having a problem reconciling a statement you make in the book with the stance you have on grace alone for everlasting life.
On page 22 you state, “If people have never believed that all who simply believe in Jesus have everlasting life, then they have not yet been born again.”
If all I have to do is believe in Jesus to have everlasting life, why must I also believe this? It seems you have added something to grace alone. I honestly don’t understand, and this has become a stumbling block for my sharing the message of Grace Evangelical Society.
My answer is that the object of saving faith is both the Lord Jesus Christ and the promise He made regarding everlasting life. I hope I can explain this clearly. It is not complicated, but I’ve heard this question before and I know for some it seems difficult to understand.
Jesus told Martha, “He who lives and believes in Me shall never die [spiritually]” (John 11:26). He then asked her, “Do you believe this?”
Note what “this” refers to: He who lives and believes in Me shall never die spiritually. To believe that, we must be convinced that the person who believes in Jesus will never die spiritually.
Martha said that she believed that (John 11:27). If she has simply restated what He said, she would have said, “Yes, Lord, I believe that he who lives and believes in You shall never die spiritually.” Instead, she explained why she believed that. The reason is that “I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world” (John 11:27). That is precisely what the purpose statement of John’s Gospel says in John 20:31. To believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, is to believe that He guarantees everlasting life to all who believe in Him.
So what does it mean to “believe in Jesus”? Does it mean to believe that He existed? That He was born in Bethlehem? That He lives a sinless life? That He is God in the flesh? That He died on the cross for our sins? That He rose bodily from the dead? That He is coming again to set up His kingdom? All of the above?
Clearly, none of that is what the Lord Jesus was talking about in John 11:25-26. Those truths could and should lead to believing His promise of everlasting life to be the believer. But in John’s Gospel and in the entire Bible to believe in Jesus is to believe in Him for what He promises, everlasting life (see John 5:39-40).
Let’s say you believe all the things I mentioned, except you do not believe in the promise of life everlasting. Do you believe the message of John 11:26? Clearly not.
Greek and English can take two direct objects. For example, consider the statement, “I taught Jim math.” I taught Jim and I taught math. The statement, “I believe in Jesus for everlasting life (John 11:26; 1 Tim 1:16).” My belief essentially has two direct objects: Jesus and everlasting life.

A person is eternally saved the very moment they BELIEVE the Gospel message as seen in (1 Co 15:3-4) whether they believe in eternal security or not.
When God sees that the unsaved man has BELIEVED on the Lord Jesus Christ that person goes immediately from an unregenerate state spiritually to a regenerated state spiritually.
In other words, they pass from spiritual death unto spiritual life and are given the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. See Eph 1:13, 4:30. Eph 2:1,5.
Once saved, Always saved is true. Once a person believes, they are eternally secure, in Christ. 1 Co 3:16, 6:19 and cannot be unborn-again.

      @Alvin Fen . . I understand that Paul was speaking to believers in Corinth, but you need to understand that when you read verse 1 Co.15:3 Paul says "For I delivered unto you FIRST of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
When Paul "first" came to these individuals they were unregenerate (dead in trespasses and sins) and needed to hear the gospel of grace in order to believe it and be eternally saved.
When Paul writes his letters he is speaking to the Church, but don't forget that he still preached the simple gospel of grace when he would go to a new location. Up until Acts 28:28, Paul’s custom, as he entered a new city, was always to go first to the local Jewish synagogue to preach the gospel. In other words he preached to the Jew first and then to the Gentiles, in that order.

@Alvin Fen . . It's not a good practice to tells others they are confused. It's better to let the Lord have that honor at the JSOC.
What makes you think that what you believe and preach is the truth?
What Paul believed for salvation in John 6:47 was "according to the scriptures" as he so plainly tells us in 1 Co 15:3-4.
What Paul received from the Lord (Gal. 1:11) was a "mystery that was kept secret" since the world began (Rom. 16:25).
Paul's (my) gospel was a message to the Church, the saved man, not the unsaved.

We get saved we get saved through faith in His finished work, not from ours as those that can be confused by “faith without works is dead.”
It is implied that we are forgiven and in Christ from faith on. It is also implied that means heaven is our eternal paradise. This is the gospel and good news!
Although you would expect this not to be true it is ironic that there are many Christians still confused and doubting their eternity under free grace theology.
The teaching goes - unless you believe eternal means that there is a no way possible to somehow forfeit eternal life when you first believed then you are not saved but only imagining you hear his voice.
The implications to other believers are staggering. It’s just not that other doctrines are in error but they are pro actively keeping people from being saved. The remedy appears to realize that for ever how long you first came to faith and thought you knew Christ that you weren’t really saved and now must fully understand eternal means eternal.
I believe eternal is eternal but I still cannot accept that those that believed in Christ and the possibility to forfeit salvation aren’t saved just because of the doctrinal error.

I never post anything that isn't backed up by scripture.
Once saved always saved is Not backed up by scripture.
      It comes out of Calvinism
Here's a few examples in the Word of God that make it clear we must endure in the Faith till the end.
      Matthew 24:13
The Greek says He who has endured till the end, this is the one that will be saved.
      Hebrews 3:14
We have come to share in Christ, (IF) indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. Hebrews 10:26-27
(IF) we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Colossians 1:22-23
But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation
23 (IF) you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
      John 15:5-6
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 (IF) a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Revelation 3:5 The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.
Even Paul realized salvation can be forfeited.
      1 Corinthians 9:27

(Continued with the Wilkin clarification of the Object of saving faith)
“Do you believe this?” is essentially the only evangelistic appeal in the Bible. Jesus wasn’t asking if Martha believed He existed. He was asking if she was persuaded that what He just said was true.
This message is not “the message of Grace Evangelical Society.” It is the message of the Lord Jesus Christ. We should proclaim the message which He gave us.
Admittedly, this issue has caused some division in the Free Grace movement. Some think that anyone who believes that Jesus is God and that He died for our sins and rose again is born again, even if he believes in works salvation. In that way of thinking Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Church of Christ, Assembly of God, and most everyone in Christianity is born again. Other Free Grace people think one must believe in the freeness of the gift of salvation (and hence not in works salvation), but that it is possible to believe that and still not be convinced that salvation is secure. We at GES believe that, as Jesus told Martha, one must believe in the freeness of the gift of salvation and that when one believes that he necessarily believes that his salvation is secure.
The promise of everlasting life is found in John 3:16-18, 36; 5:24, 39-40; 6:35, 47; 11:25-27; Acts 16:31; Rom 4:4-5; Gal 2:16; 3:6-14; Eph 2:8-9; and Rev 22:17. If someone does not believe that promise, then He does not believe in Jesus in the Biblical sense.
I should add that the Lord Jesus taught that at the moment of faith a believer is guaranteed that he will never die spiritually. That means that if someone stops believing the promise later, he remains eternally secure. Once a person is saved, he is always saved. There is no undoing of the new birth. So if a believer loses assurance of his eternal destiny, he retains everlasting life. But if a person has not yet believed the promise of everlasting life (the second paragraph in your question), then he has not yet believed in Jesus in the Biblical sense."

@Alvin Fen . . The gospel of grace is "according to the Scriptures" (1 Co 15:3-4) and these are the OT Scriptures, not the NT. See also (Lk 24:44-47).
The gospel (Gal. 1:11) that Paul received from the Lord is "according to the revelation of the mystery" which was kept secret (Rom 16:25). (1 Co 15:1-2) speaks also of this gospel.
In other words, the gospel of grace is a message for the unsaved, whereas Paul's gospel is a message to the saved.
The former is for justification, the latter is for sanctification.

    Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
I do not see any mention of eternal security there, and I do believe in eternal security.
So many passage mention believing on the name of Jesus, believing Jesus is the Son of God, believing He rose from the dead, and many more simple solitary things resulting in the person being saved. I do not see "and believe in eternal security" or "and believe in His promises" in those passages. If it is true that one must believe in eternal security to be saved and not just believing Jesus is Lord/God/the Son of God, or that He was raised from the dead, are these passages lying? Or is there some hidden implication of eternal security there that I cannot see?
I am absolutely on board that eternal security is true. What I disagree with is that eternal security is the gospel. The gospel is that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. If a person believes that, they are saved. If they don't understand the implications of that and don't fully grasp eternal security, I do not believe that makes them unsaved.
    Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Are there people that have called upon the name of the Lord that do not believe in eternal security? Without a doubt. Are they saved? This passage seems to explicitly say that they are. Are they wrong about eternal security? I would say so.
I do not think it is wise to make the gospel more narrow or harder than it is. It is absolutely wise and good to teach people about eternal security, because it is a beautiful grace the Lord has given us and is a huge blessing on my life. But to say it is necessary to be saved seems to be to be adding to the gospel, as shown in these verses, and many more throughout the New Testament that show believing something about Jesus that has nothing to do with His promises resulting in someone being saved. This seems to be the exact same thing Lordshippers are doing by adding "of your sins" to every mention of repenting to be saved.
Repenting of sins is a good thing. Is it required to be saved? The explicit message of salvation through faith in Christ without repenting "of sins" penetrates the entire New Testament, so no it is not. And it is an error to say it is.
Believing in eternal security is a good thing. Is it required to be saved? The explicit message of salvation through faith in Christ without specifically believing "His promise of eternal life" penetrates the entire New Testament, so from what I understand, no it is not. Which would mean it is an error to say it is in the same way it is an error for Lordshippers to say repenting "of sins" is required to be saved.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Being born again with irrevocable Life is only "by faith that it might be according to grace that the Promise would be certain " (Romans 4:16) .

Matthew 7 is explicitly talking about false prophets, not people who actually believe Jesus is the Son of God, died for their sins, and rose from their dead, but are wrong about eternal security. We should absolutely correct them about being wrong about eternal security, but Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus explicitly is contrasting these people with ones that "doeth the will of my Father", which is to believe on the Son. There are many instances of people in John’s gospel seeing Jesus perform miracles and believe in Him because of that. Did they suddenly understand the doctrine of eternal security by seeing miracles? Or did they just believe Jesus was the Son of God/ Christ upon seeing the miracles, which still counted as believing? Saying you must believe eternal security to be saved requires you to do just as much inserting of words that are not in the text as lordshippers do with repentance. One problem with his doctrine is that he never defines what everlasting life is, or never accurately explains what the Bible means by “everlasting life.” If everlasting life is simply life without end, then all people already have that. All men will live forever: some in the new heaven and new earth, and others forever excluded from this in torments in Gehenna.
What Jesus offers is not simply life without terminus, but a quality of life, an elevated, supernatural existence which Peter describes as “participation in the divine nature.”
The word being translated as “everlasting life” or “eternal life” is “eonian” and is more accurately translated as “partaking of the age to come.” The meaning is that those who maintain belief in Christ already participate here and now in a real but mysterious way in the elevated, intensified life of the new heaven and new earth. It is not a guarantee that such participation cannot be lost.

    By "Lordshippers"
    You mean Jesus Himself.
No one spoke more about repenting of sin than Jesus.
False teachings started in the 1980's that rejected repentance and replaced it with trust or believe only.
Jesus first command when He started His earthly ministry was Repent
    Mark 1:15
The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
    Matthew 4:17
Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.
    Matthew 9:13
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to REPENTANCE.
    Mark 2:17
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the RIGHTEOUS but SINNERS to REPENTANCE.
    Mark 6:12
They [Disciples] went out and preached that people should REPENT.
    Luke 13:3
I tell you, no! But UNLESS YOU REPENT, YOU TOO WILL ALL PERISH.
    Luke 15:7
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one SINNER WHO REPENTS than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to REPENT.
    Luke5:32
I came not to call the righteous, but SINNERS TO REPENTANCE.”
    Matthew 11:20
Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because THEY DID NOT REPENT.
    Mark4:12
    So that,
they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
    and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn (from sin) and be forgiven!
Jesus's final command for us to do.
    Luke24:47
And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to ALL NATIONS,
    beginning at Jerusalem.
Rejecting repentance of sin is rejecting FORGIVENESS OF SINS since that is the only way scripture says sins are forgiven.

For one who comments so much, I must assume you think others will read your comments. And yet you do not address or even seem to read any of the comments people make in reply to yours. Very interesting.
      Jonah 3:10
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil ways, and repented of the evil He said He would do unto them.
Turning from evil ways (aka repenting of sins) is defined in the Bible as work. And we know we are saved by faith, not works (Eph 2:8-9)
And God repented. Repent does not have an implied “of sins”. If you say it does you are accusing God of sinning. If you want to say you are not accusing God of sinning, you have to concede repent can mean other things besides “repent of sins”, and thus every verse you used that only said repent and not “repent of sins” does not prove your point at all.

I've responded to the false teacher claim that Jonah 3:10 "proves" repenting of sin is works numerous times. Strange though those who don't reject the teaching of Jesus,John the Baptist Peter and Paul on repenting of sin understand exactly what it says. We don't just go by some false teachers who just see works and repented and change the easy to understand meaning.
      Jonah 3:10
Is a great example of what happens when people which are living to serve sin continously (evil works) however after Jonah warns the Ninevehites of God's pending destruction because of thier evil, they turned from (their evil ways so God changed His mind and did not destroy them.
When God saw what they did and how they turned away from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.
They turned from [means Repented in Hebrew] their evil ways which caused God to not destroy them.
So they repented of their sins (evil works)
      Jesus reaffirms this in
      Matthew 12:41
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they REPENTED AT THE PREACHING OF JONAH, and now something greater than Jonah is here.
They repented [changed their minds] of their evil ways which pleased God.
If Sodom and Gomorrah would have repented of their evil works (deeds) God would not have destroyed them.
It's the same for us if we repent of our sins (evil works)God will not destroy the soul in Hell.
      Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now COMMANDETH ALL PEOPLE EVERY WHERE TO REPENT.
      Repent of what?
The only thing that will keep you eternally separated from God. SIN.
The authors of King James knew what repent means in Greek.
God demanded repentance of sin in the Old Testament as well.
Not till more modern (end times) did false teachers start teaching a different meaning.
      2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Jesus says it very clear as does Peter
      Repent or Perish.

Yes we are are saved by grace through repentance which is the consequence of faith.
Repentance always precedes Faith in scripture.
Without repentance there is no Faith.

God is not a man that He can sin.
      1 Samuel 15:29kj
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Believing Jesus died for all our sins will result in eternal life. Eternal life is the consequence of that belief . Does not it not work that way?
In the Old Testament time, the reason to conduct year on year animal sacrifice, was to cleanse of the people sins. And Jesus did it once for all as the ultimate sacrifice. That is also the reason why Jesus came here in the first place. So by believing that He cleanse our sin, and eternal life is surely followed. Does not that mean that "eternal security" is a done deal by itself?
Does anyone want to offer any other thoughts?

      My thought on this..
Believe that we are forgiven = Believe we have everlasting life.
      Acts 13:38-39
Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the *forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you* . Through him everyone who believes is *set free from every sin* , a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.
      Believe what? ..
      What did John say?
      John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God *who takes away the sin of the world!*
      Matthew 21:32
For *John* came to you in the way of righteousness, and *you did not believe him* , but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.
What is the gospel of Christ or the good news? Jesus died for our sins and we are free now.
      Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the *gospel of Christ* : for it is the power of God *unto salvation* to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
      Mark 1:15
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and *believe the good news!* ”
      Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and *turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out* , that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.

Water baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is received when we believe or trust Jesus i.e born again. The question is whether trusting Jesus for His forgiveness or/and trusting for eternal life. My position is both are the same.
      On water baptism...
      1 Corinthians 1:17
For Christ *did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel* -not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
The whole Bible is inspired by God not only the book of John. We are Gentiles, more so to listen to the writings of Apostle Paul.
      2 Timothy 3:16
      *All Scripture is inspired by God* and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
Gift is the result of forgiveness. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness; therefore, no gift of salvation.
      That is why...
Man(believe Jesus) + Forgiven 100% = Receiving the Gift of salvation
It is 2 side of a same coin : forgiven and gift.

Forgiveness is not work. Perhaps you have been misled.
Forgiveness is from God not through our own effort of trying to be self righteous which is work by definition.
Even those calling Him is saved. Nothing about asking for the free gift of eternal life in order to be saved.
Anyone asking for Jesus to save him/her, is saved whether...he is thinking of eternal life or forgiveness. Only a person who has faith in Jesus will call him.
      Romans 10:13
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Whomever that Alvin person is they have left a wake of confusion and insults and appear they have left you tube.
My thought is there is something off about the lesson here we are picking up on. Anyone brought up in an Arminian church where there is a possibility of losing salvation will have to feel condemned because they didn’t believe the right way with full assurance of the inability to walk away forfeiting salvation.
This teaching seems to add something to faith without adding something. It’s like an answer to a question no one asked. It also is a new emphasis.
When we get saved, we have eternal life in Christ. That seems obvious so I’m not clear of GES making this into something of special emphasis. It is sending red flags up.
I believe OSAS is not a doctrine but found in Christ. At first it seems GES is simply pointing that out. But I find myself trying hard to understand what their exact message is.
