    Q) On your first row of K1P1 you purl in the front of the stitch, but on the following row you purl in the back of the stitch. Why?
    Q) Also after your brim is done you say you want to knit all across the next row so all the stitches are facing in the same direction. I know that some stitches you knit in the front and some stitches you knit in the back. I can't tell why... and how do I know when I come upon my stitches which to knit in front and which to knit in back?

    • @SkyVsMama
      @SkyVsMama 10 месяцев назад +1

      After watching that section of the video a few times, it looks like stitches facing more towards the right side of the stitch are knit through the front, and the ones that are facing more towards the left are knit in the back. If you re-watch that little section, you can see exactly what I mean. The posts are facing more to one side. Re-watch 8:35 to 8:55. Watch closely. As for the decreases, she switches through the back loops on the previous 2 purl stitches so that the finished stitches are facing the correct direction. Hope this helps! Happy knitting 💜

    Quick question... hats from the store are usually snug on me so I'd like to go a little larger. Would you recommend I use a larger needle, or stick with the required size and add another multiple of 10?

    Hi. I noticed that when you purl, you use the back rather than the front. Curious, I looked at other YT videos, and they used the front of the stitch when purling. Is this a personal preference, or will it make a difference in the pattern? (I bought the written pattern, am still a beginner hat knitter, mostly a crocheter but trying to learn to become comfortable with knitting)

      @@knittingforbaby so far I'm loving working on this hat. The fern stitch section is flying by. I really hated to have to put it away to go to bed and I'm anxious to get back to it.
      I'm also already planning another in a different color way.
      What adjustments do you recommend for a medium #4 yarn to make an adult size? I was thinking that if I tried the same CO amount and the same needles I might still be ok because of the range of stretch in the band. I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. It's just so much fun finding a beautiful and fun to stitch pattern! I'm already thinking of gifts for next Christmas. Lol!
      Oh! Any chance of an adult matching mitten pattern in the works? 😉😉😉

    • @knittingforbaby
      @knittingforbaby  2 года назад

      Yay 😀 glad you like it 👍 I also think that you can get away with using #4 yarn. The stitch itself is very stretchy so #4 yarn with same needle size should work. Good luck ☺️

      @@knittingforbaby thank you! I'm having a great time stitching and making a shopping list of items for making more. Lol! I haven't been this giddy in a long while. Lol!
      I was thinking the fern stitch would make a beautiful hood/cowel but, I haven't had much luck trying to come up with a pattern. I've got too much swirling around my head right now. Lol!
      This is kind of odd for me (but in a great way) because I usually make more baby items.

    Hi there, thanks for the video. I’m the newbie to knitting and I have a question here: the pattern is multiple of 10, and the 1st row : knit 5-purl 2-knit 1-purl 2 then we don’t have any stiches left. How can we have last 5 STC stiches left for purl 2- knit 1- purl 2? Please explain. Thank you so much.

    • @knittingforbaby

      The last five stitches are part of the repeat K5, P2, K1, P2 which equals 10 stitches. Make sure you cast on 100 st.

    Hi. In the repeats, do you reorient the stiches for the second knit 2 together because you are combination knitting? Or would you do that anyway?
    And, these two you knit through the back loop, whereas the first k2t, you knit through the front? Just curious about the difference. I'm trying to learn more about combination knitting and how to adapt pattern instructions.

    I didnt have the specified yarn, besides my granddaughter requested a multicolored purple yarn, so I used Red Heart Super Saver's "Grape Fizz" on #8 circulars & DPs.
    I reduced the repeats to 8 because it appeared the 9 repeats would have been too long for my adult granddaughter who has a small frame.
    Beautiful pattern and project. However, the pattern's Row # 40 was a pain in the derriere to do! 😅

      Technically, I believe that's a back purl, it creates a twist before the purl loop and will tighten up the stitch. It will tighten the stitches somewhat overall, and reduce the circumference. I purl in the front loop and my hat turned out very oversized!
      If you want to use the front loop for your purls, I suggest reducing the total stitches to 80 or 90 depending on how tight you tend to stitch. I just frogged my entire hat and am starting over with 80 stitches for the initial cast on. It was still good practice though, so I'm guessing my stitch pattern will be even more well-defined in my 2nd attempt! (c;
