Thank you! I just decapitated my monstera albo! I really want to root the cutting and put it back in the pot for a fuller plant but once I cut it I panicked a little! The growth node looks like it might be a half moon or at least a nicely variegated leaf! I don’t want it to to rot! Some say put it in water while others say moss. I have confidence that you know monsteras so I’m going with moss and perlite! And I’m going to sterile the moss in the microwave first! There are 2 mostly green leaves and a 1” nice healthy root that was in the moss pole so I think it will do well? 😳😳
I just bought 3 monstera albo cuttings from different people. I have heard so many conflicting things. They all have node, Ariel root and leaf or multiple leaves. I have one in water, one in leca and one in moss and perlite. What is the best method to get your monstera albo to grow secondary roots to be able to finally be able to pot in soil? I am clueless and doing 3 different methods doing Russian roulette with my plants.
I work part time at a famous green house and was sent home with 5 cuttings with long aerial roots. I always get my plants rooted and ready but I am wanting to try rooting these cuttings. I have them in water. They were calloused off for 2 days before I was sent home with them. Should I keep them in water until I see roots? Or can I just put them in moss with their long aerial roots? I could’ve asked my coworkers but it gets really busy there! Any help would be appreciated!
ruclips.net/user/shortsutHZPvZMhos?si=E6RukwBi9izZRbrV Here’s what I would do! Use an airstone with h202 or bleach in the water. Alongside a rooting hormone NAA: prettyingreen.com/products/liquid-rooting-hormone-naa-propagation-tissue-culture
I had to watch this video like 10 times. I got a cutting in the mail, very small root and the two leaves it came with are yellowing. I put it in water but i think I should out it in the moss perlite mix 🤔🤔 please help 😢 its my first monstera and i dont want it to die 😭😭😭
Hi i purchased my Albo cutting in April 2022. I potted it in a chunky aroid mix which made it grow tons of roots. So many roots I had to up pot it to a pot 2 inches larger. It continues to grow lots of roots but it hasn’t grown any leaves except for a tiny little leaf with finistrations a month after I got it. Can you let me know why I’m getting no leaves. All of my other monsteras are thriving. It has been under a grow light since I got it.
Hmmm weird! Does it have enough nitrogen in the chunky Aroid mix? (That’s the first number on fertilizer bags) Are the other Monsteras under the same light? Could be not enough light?
Thanks for the video! I purchased a monstera albo cutting and it already came with lots of roots. When planting it into the aroid mix do I leave the stem/node out of it or should it go inside the mix? Thanks in advance
I received a rooted cutting like the first cutting you had. The sub roots on the aerial root rotted. I treated with hp/water mix and placed it in a chunky mix.. is this okay? Will the aerial root regrow roots ? Idk how to propagate since it was already in soil. Idk why but The seller took it out of soil and overnight shipped it to me in moss 😪 the change in media caused those sub roots to rot 😭
You can regrow aerial roots that were in soil too! I would use a vase of water with an air stone. Add hydrogen peroxide to the water every 2 days @1oz/gal water. Couple drops of superthrive in the water will also help. Make sure to remove any rot from the aerial root before starting this process! It might do ok in chunky mix, but will likely rot :/
Please help. I received a plant from 5 day shipping, and the roots looked healthy when it arrived wrapped in moss. I let it stay in the damp moss overnight and planted it in a chunky mix the following day. It’s seem to be doing fine then a few days later my daughter knocked the pot over, the plant wasn’t damaged but the potting mix mostly came out so reported it. I noticed it drooping more and more each day and it look extra sad and droopy today and I’m so scared I’ve done so much damage.
I’d put it into a vase of water with 1oz of peroxide per gal of water. Remove any rotted parts. Then go into a rooting media without much(if any) peat or coconut coir. We use 3/2/1 mix: 3parts husk/2parts perlite/1part coco coir to root. I hope this helps! Good luck 😄
@@prettyingreen Thank you so much. I took it out and there is rot starting to happen. There is some harder parts, I’m guessing used to be the aerial roots? I left those cleaned it good and put in a vase with hydro peroxide/water. The stem has no sign of rot, still hard and looks good. How long should I leave in the water for and can I put it in moss or perlite/moss when I do take it out of water? I’m too scared to put in a aroid mix. Kinda want to be able to see roots again 😔 I wish I could send a picture. I’m super grateful for your reply, I honestly was crossing my fingers you would, so Thank you very much.

Hi! As bright as you can get it without bleaching. If natural light: some sunlight that would not burn your skin. If grow lights. 200w LEDs @18" or so. It's a lot of guess and check!
My goodness, I've had an albo cutting sitting under grow lights in pon for 3 weeks without a single root! I couldn't figure out what it was. So I put it closer to the grow light and one leaf started to yellow. If I understand you, this is because it's in too much light and it's trying to grow upwards instead of growing roots?! I just moved it to moss and away from so close to the light. I hope you're right. It's my first albo and I'm terrified of killing it!
Yes that sounds correct! Make sure the root mass isn’t too wet. Today’s video outlines unpotting semi hydro plants to make sure they aren’t being overwatered
Question😊 I got a monstera cutting with one leaf but I doesn't have aerial root when I got it from the mail. It was in water for few weeks and it's growing shoot from its growing eye but it doesn't have any roots. I recently moved it to 50%moss and 50%perlite because I noticed the stem started to turn black a bit. Any thoughts about growing shoot without any roots?🤔
That’s a really tough one! Ideally you have an aerial root, or at least beginning of root point to begin fresh roots from. I would do this in a humidity dome of some sort. And just lay the node on top of damp most. Trim away black parts, and treat with hydrogen peroxide. And I’d keep the moss a bit less wet! That’s a challenge though!! Good luck!
@@prettyingreen Thanks a lot for your quick reply! I have my monstera albo variegata (11 small leaves) in a hydrosystem since about one month, so far it's doing pretty good but no new leaf yet. I'm using about 1000-1600 ec nutrient solution currently, so that may be a bit low but not too bad I guess! How do you fertilize monsteras in an aroid mix? With every watering or just once-twice a month? And how much fertilizer? Sorry for asking a ton of questions, just ignore it if you dont have time!
Try to use a mixture of perlite and leca, or even 100% perlite, and just water the media every 2-3 days to keep damp. This will create more oxygen in the root zone! Use a container with drainage too.
Great video. I am looking for a trusted source where I can buy variegated monstera deliciousa. I see on your site it says sold out on your plants. Do you have any node cuttings for sell?

Ok question. I am a monstera collector you might say and I cannot afford a rooted cutting but I did just purchase four rooted nodes. I feel comfortable starting them as I use the same method as you do. HOWEVER, please offer me some advice as to what to expect. If the node is small and thin, will I be waiting forever and a day for a good-sized leaf or if the node is hearty and thick, from a mature plant, will I actually see a good-sized leaf emerge? I ask because I have these plants at all ages and HATE waiting forever on my young ones to grow mature. I have always desired an albo though so am going to go for it. Is there a way of telling what sort of size and grow rate of the plant I will have this way? Thanks. Also, do you suggest coating the ends of the node with cinnamon before soaking? Lastly, if I have a bunch of roots but no shoot, how much of the node do I leave exposed when planting?
Typically thinner stalks (stems) will initially create smaller plants, since they came off more immature lengths of stems. And thinner is typically more likely to be monstera bors, whereas the thicker stem to be Deliciosa. Soaking in cinnamon could be good as an antibacterial! Not sure the effect on rooting. But the key will be not over saturating the roots with water. Once you have healthy roots, the shoots will come up (on the opposite side of the root). Give the node plenty of light and warmth to signal to the plant it’s a safe “season” to grow into
Thank you for another great video! I was looking through your site and I saw that you make 3D printed pots! Do you have any plans on making self-watering planters? Perhaps for crawlers? It’s hell looking for some. I’ve been using storage bins 🤦♀️

Opinions on planting with leca over soil?? Thinking of planting my water rooted deliciosa with leca, perlite, orchid bark?
What if the cutting i got doesn't have white roots? 😢 It has one thick root but it's kinda blackish
I dident get how deep the stem cutting should be in the water, and then take the stem out of the water, when the roots is comming out?
When you plant it in the soil, do you cover that that horizontal stem piece? Or leave it on top of the soil and only bury the root?
