- If you're thinking about building a house, and living in an RV while you build, this will be a great video for you!
In this video, I cover the things you should consider if you're thinking about buying some land, getting an RV and living in it while you build.
In 2020, we sold everything and left to find land in our RV so that we could build our dream house and homestead. We found some land and began building, but stationary life was very different than traveling life in an RV.
Overall we loved the experience but it wasn't without challenges. Hopefully by watching this video you'll be able to set your expectations properly so that you can enjoy the time that you live stationary while building.
We lived in a borrowed 20ft 5th wheel for an entire year while we built our log home and developed our 5 acres. It was actually very comfortable in NC except for some bitter cold in February that year. That was 25 years ago. We sold all of that property 5 years ago and now travel full time in a 32 foot Class C. Loving the life even though we had planned to live on that property forever. Dreams change 😊
That totally makes sense! We absolutely loved full-time travel, and it was probably the funnest time that we've ever had so far honestly. I think at some point we will go back into full-time traveling, and if I didn't own my land I would want to be traveling 100%.
Lighting being open to new ideas and changing your life is the key, and most people are too afraid to make major changes like you did.
How do you like the class c for full timing?
@@homesteadingbarndo We love it! Of course we have done lots of remodeling to suit our tastes and improve the functionality of our tiny wheeled home. Out came the carpet, dinette and jack knife sofa. Vinyl laminate wood look planks, a semi circle table under a large window with a couple swivel dining chairs and a pair of comfortable recliners change the look of the place. Recovered the dated 2012 laminate " faux marble" countertops with a solid almond color. Took out the propane stove and oven... Replaced those with an induction cook top and combo air fryer toaster oven. We replaced the absorption RV refrigerator with a larger compressor style refrigerator. Then we added some happy mid century modern colors and accessories to brighten the space. Now it feels like a home and not a recreational vehicle. We hope to enjoy many more years of travel before we settle back down to what others would call a normal retirement life. Most of our family and friends wish they could do the same. We are still excited to see what the next location has to offer. We usually stay a couple weeks in an area to really enjoy it.
That's so awesome! Sounds like so much fun
Great video.. I’ll be earning my tiny home stripes in a few months. Not 2 years but a newborn in the middle of RV-home build, it’ll be about 3-4 months before we can move in but we’re building our dream house.
These mild inconveniences are just like you said, space appreciation. We will walk into our new house completely humbled. Thanks for the video bruh.
@@devonceleon hey that's exciting!! Congrats! I'll be honest I miss living in the RV I really want to go on some trips with the family. Thanks for watching
And that flock of geese interrupting your audio? Priceless.
We get a ton up here!
This is such an important video for all of us that are going for it with this type of life. Thanks for the transperancy and helpful tips that worked for you. We are planning on moving to Idaho from the mission field. We are currently in an island nation in the Pacific.
That's awesome! That will be a big change in terms of weather. Are you going to continue ministry or work in another field?
Thanks for sharing.
No problem, thanks for watching!
Im happy for you
Thanks!
I have so many questions… like did you have to remove snow from the top of the tv, did you have problems with your water during freezing whether? Etc
No we didn't have to remove the snow. Since it was winterized and we had heat inside the snow would melt off. The water did freeze several times but we bought some electric heat tapes that we attached to the areas prone to freezing and it worked out alright. It was definitely a learning process!
Can you explain how to hookup to electric, water, & sewer?
You bet I'll make you a video here on how we did it
@@homesteadingbarndo awesome! Looking forward to it!
Hey there Alexa! I finally made that video explaining how to hookup utilities to get living fulltime on land: ruclips.net/video/FSY3rFBx23M/видео.html
I totally understand if you’re not comfortable answering this but… I also own land in Idaho county and am planning on living in a camper while building our house. Is there another place we can connect and chat? How cool to have found a neighbor online!
Totally awesome send me an email at homesteadyrv@gmail.com happy to meet you here and connect with you!
