  • We have a well and we finally have electricity on site. Today, for the first time, we'll refill our RV fresh tank from our own well connected to our electrical backboard. We'll walk through the steps we take to minimize stress on the pump and show how long it takes to fill our 78 gallon fresh tank.

Rinse and repeat for the next 6 months. Nice way of living with minimal work required. You could almost start your own RV Park with the way things are set up. Nice video on how it's done.

Step by step, the homestead takes shape. I'm slightly jealous. 😀 Thanks for the vid.

That sure makes it convenient. I hope you have more pressure than that when it comes to supplying the house.

Yes, absolutely. The well pump will be used to fill a ~300 gallon unpressurized cistern. A second pump will feed from the cistern to supply water to the house and other buildings.

Hi Matt your trailer should have a city water hook up, you just connect the hose. Well pump stays on, trailer pump stays off. We have a 2017 ORV 26RLS Timber Ridge Titanium. Our city water hook up was in the back of the trailer.

It does have a city water, the issue is we don't have the well set up to support it yet. Typically, a well pump is managed by a pump controller which will turn on the well pump when required (usually when the pressure in a pressure tank drops below a threshold) and off again when it's no longer needed.
We haven't yet installed that equipment because it needs to be somewhere that it won't freeze. In our case, that will be our utility building and needless to say, we're very much looking forward to having our water permanently hooked up!

I have a Grundfoss pressure regulating system on my well. The pump runs till the pressure you set is reached then turns off till pressure goes down from you using water then it turns back on again. I never turn mine off manually unless I am working on the system.

With our temporary setup there is no pressure tank so nowhere for pressure to build. Consequently we have to manually turn it on and off. Longer term this will obviously work differently.

Are you not just hooking up directly from the well to the rv to avoid the well pump coming on repeatedly?

Exactly, and because we haven’t installed a pump controller so there would be nothing to toggle the pump on and off. Since we have a fairly large fresh tank on the RV, we only need to fill about every 1-2 weeks so it’s not a big problem for now. Soon enough we’ll have the utility building and proper hookups!
