Great first episode !!! Love the empire identity. I think more images of ships, star bases and even alian races (from the comunication screen) would help give a identity to the different civilisation. It's a lot easier to get attached to a character ( or civ) if we can put a face to them. Oh and a view of a galactic map would also help get a image !
Terran Brothers and Sisters, The orbital network was quickly destroyed. Fire rained from the sky, but that was not the end of it. Hostile Invaders followed the wreckage onto the planet, subjugating all resistance with vastly superior firepower and technology. The invaders' motives were unknown, death their only form of diplomacy. Do I speak of our ancestors, do I speak of my ancestors? No, this tale I tell is of the Wosari. Their hostile invaders were humans! We are the aliens! I do not just when I say that we have sinned, sinned against humanity, that we have become what we feared and despised and fought against. Unlike us, the Wosari have no hope of winning this war against an unstoppable enemy from beyond the stars. However, we do not have to let it end this way. It is not too late; Let us make up for our mistakes! Let us ask for forgiveness! Let us welcome the Wosari, not as slaves, but as new brothers and sisters! We cannot undo our error, but we can fight, not for bloodshed or resources, but in our government, to make things right. -Seleucus Elizar, a former soldier, a citizen, and a human, likely soon to be arrested
Scythe Seven Then they must arrest me too!!! I support you!!! We must guide them as brothers and sisters. Our hatred is not against the wassari. But for the scum that killed our ancestors and defile our home in it's glory days. For this we need to unite. For one day to gain our retribution with our new brothers and sisters. Our tale will inspire them to join us in our struggle!!!! -Julius Kovalenko Human citizen. ex-navy crewsmate. fellow protester and unity activist probably in the same squad car on it's way to an interrogation room
I am also with you. Let's build up a resistance network against the GTU to restore the pre-war nations of Earth. Our previous values of the 21st century may have been lost in our great war against our Alien Invaders. But now, the values of the GTU had not only been lost, they have been betrayed and had been stabbed in the back. The GTU should be ashamed, that they invaded a primitive species' homeworld. We need long-term solutions, like a peaceful federation between the species of the Galaxy or, at least, the nations of the humans. Death to the GTU! Long live the Rebellion, to restore the united nations of earth! (Some Star Wars stuff is about to happen ;) )
Kronos 1612 It seems so. If a war against terra on itself must happen then i will fight for the right side. The side that doesn't clamour for massecres just to settle their genocide boners. The side who doesn't insist that we get the lower-tier citizens into our dinner plates because of some weird fetish. The side that believes in inter-galactic union that deal eachother with respect. Not with hatred and murderous intend. Loke our ancestors who believed it before the actual Xeno scum cane and destroyed most of our population. Terrans forget themselfs!!!! We dreamt of a hand reaching out in space. To look for new alien life. So we can live along. Discover new technology and wonders of space. And live in prosperity
This video series is so creative and engaging! I love it! I've always wondered what it would be like to have a parallel narrative for strategy games. I wish I discovered this channel when this was going on! You should definitely do this again in the future, if you haven't started one already.
I was a bit sceptic about how you would narrate such a story, but you did it greatly! Even though such xenophobia seems unrealistic to me, you made it really believable. You are the best! Keep it up!
Well on earth even though there's a lot of xenophobia, it's rarely a genocidal one. And even when a group of people commits genocide on another, the "genocided" group is not ultra-xenophobic forever. For exemple, the jews don't hate the germans, because political relations have changed a lot. Or armenia, even though they don't like turks, i don't think they would commit a genocide on them if they had the choice. I can understand a certain hatred, but seing it constant for decades semmes strange for me. But in this case it's more believable as the gvnmt supports and ecourages it.
I loved it! However, would it be possible to show some images to at least represent the alien species mentioned? I understand that maybe you cannot show all the artwork of Stellaris for legal reasons, but I started to find it difficult to remember what alien nation was what with only space background used during the discussion of them. I am only watching the RUclips videos and not participating in the stream, so maybe I'm not the audience that is meant to get the whole picture, but if that isn't the intention, I would need more visuals to understand who is who in the grand scheme of this story.
Just subscribed a few days back after watching your Wargammmer 40k vids, this is a real cool series you guys punched out. Hearing these stories about your experience with Stellaris Invictus makes me wanna snag a copy. Hopefully once I get my PC upgraded I'll get a copy and see what sort of stories I can weave with the game.
My fellow citizens, across the GTU a great question has been asked, a question that demands an answer. We as a species suffered under the yoke of alien aggression, invasion, and oppression with little choice other then resist. Millions were butchered and our nations of old destroyed, but yet we stand now resolute and stronger from it. Now together we have reached the inevitable point within our expansion that we are faced with the great choice, to conquer those as we were almost conquered, or to stand apart from the other races of this galaxy. The Wessari are conquered, it is but a simple fact and the morality of that decision is not what I have come to debate, after all we can not undo the past but we can choose the future. We face the choice of what to do with the Wessari. Yes we conquered them, yes we killed them, and yes for a time we placed them bellow us, but now i come to you to ask was this truly wrong? The Xenos races that surround us have done the same; they have conquered others like the Wessari far before humanity ever did. Yet while Xenos brutalize fellow Xenos Humanity has not gone down the same road of the brutal conqueror, we gave them rights and freedoms! We have given them technologies and medicines they never dreamed of! Humanity has granted the Wessari the gift of prosperity and peace! Wessari no longer kill Wessari, the Commissariat suffers no war or famine, Wessari and Man now work side by side not just as master and servant but as brothers and sisters in arms. Just as we grew strong through war the Wessari grew under humanity and eventually joined us side by side. What was done to us was inexcusable and many worry that we have become the monsters that we sought to defend ourselves from but I tell you now we are not, Humanity shall not be the cruel destroyer of life but rather the guardian. Yes some will suffer in the beginning, just as we did, but we shall not simply crush those we find. We shall nurture them and protect them from the true oppressors of the Xenos nations. We shall show the galaxy that Humanity is different from the cruel nature of the likes of the Alagans, the Vol hive, and the great enemy who seeks nothing but dominance. Humanity, Wessari, and all others who we raise into greatness shall create a great bulwark against those who would abuse their power over others! We shall conquer not because we seek dominance, but because we are the only ones who can resist the temptation such power brings. It is not a question of if Humanity has the right, it is a question of what method is most effective to fulfill Humanities responsibility of bringing peace to all the species of the galaxy. I bid you all goodnight, Glory to Humanity, glory to the united peoples of the GTU. -Unknown broadcast by a GTU Admiral
I've binged the twitch streams that was the basis of this report, but i still got chills at the end when that "Gate" was mentioned, so good! Well done guys!
This is, hands down, one of the very best scifi series I have ever seen in my entire life. I am deeply impressed with the efforts of The Templin Institute. Well done. Well done.
I LOVE STELLARIS INVICTA!!!!!! I love the world-building most of all. The Greater Terran Union is the main character. Of course I'd love to hear the stories of the legendary people and events with the GTU, but building the universe is more important right now. Keep the greatness coming!!!
i loved this. i was able to visualize each plot point you mentioned as part of the game as it unfolded. you have an amazing ability to translate the gameplay elements of stellaris into a storied structure. i wish i was that imaginative; usually my playthroughs just evolve into an arms buildup and inevitable subjugation of the entire galaxy.
Impressive! I'm being drawn further in by the amazing and compelling storyline with each episode. The mystery of the derelict ships deepens as much as the Greater Terran Union expands its influence into the darker reaches of space.
I used to do something very similar to this for my adventures in old school WoW back in the day, this was absolutely amazing to watch and I look forward to seeing more!
Sutler : My fellow Englishmen: tonight our country, that which we stand for, and all we hold dear, faces a grave and terrible threat. This violent and unparalleled assault on our security will not go undefended... or unpunished. Our enemy is an insidious one, seeking to divide us and destroy the very foundation of our great nation. Tonight, we must remain steadfast. We must remain determined. But most of all, we must remain united. Those caught tonight in violation of curfew will be considered in league with our enemy and prosecuted as a terrorist without leniency or exception. Tonight, I give you my most solemn vow: that justice will be swift, it will be righteous, and it will be without mercy.
Holy crap. I wish I had the skill to put a lot of story in my stellaris campaigns like you all do! This has made me pumped to play a heck of a lot more stellaris! Glory to the Greater Terran Union!
Super excited to see this continue, and I'll be signing up for your patreon! My knee-jerk reaction was a little sad that the Union was becoming more sinister, but it really is more realistic this way. For story's sake, I hope The union does something to engender some kind of good will with it's neighbors.
Establish a puppet government for the Visari (allow them minimal power over local government, approved by the National council), grant them infrastructures for a better way of life and respect their civil rights. Create a culture that makes the Visari equals and respected with Humans when on their own planet, while Humanity authority on outside space border is shown unquestioned on this newly conquered population. Grant them Union citizenship after proper indoctrination but make sure to always confine them on their own planet with no meddling on Earth. Use friendly propaganda to incite Visari to create an infantry army of their own that will bear the Union insigna on their uniform. These infantries will be overseen by Human mechanized army and their sole role will be to preserve the established social order with the 2 races joint for common cause of defense of the planet. Since the fact that effectiveness of the Greater Terran Union military has been shown to the National Council, the time has come to issue a new session to explain the boundaries of annexation handling policy if humanity will have to once again, include new minor planet populations in the future to come. Always remember that with Humanity guiding hand, all races joint with the Union will rise its chance of survival when the Tira will decide to attack us all again one day, while we will grant higher standard of living to the ones will conquer on the waiting of our nemesis. Hail the Union.
Would you like a job at the Ministry of Information(aka Propaganda)? They are always hiring and looking for imaginative and above all loyal citizens to spread good fact amongst the citizenry. Real fact would cause too much for most of them I am afraid.
The Visari are already being slowly integrated into the GTU. Due to GTU ideology they need to "earn" their place alongside humanity (the GTU have an Star-ship Troopers style service grant rights mentality), but they have been gaining headway.
Please tell me what headway had been made has The Visari home planet being repaired and fortified have we integrated the GTU technology military and or civilian onto the planet and have any of them see the GTU capital and most of all have any joined the military forces outside their Planet? As a separate but intelligent species is probably some jobs in the Armed Forces The Visari could do better.
To hamanu666: Very well, I will keep on providing review in our progress for the Ministry when part two will be airing. As all of our citizens, I follow our collective iconic motto for the good of the whole: "I am doing my part."
Loving this creativity. My initial power in Stellaris was the "Terran Commonwealth" and we were really nice. Until I had to start again because there are certain perils to researching jump drives...
The brief yet meaningful shout-out to Mark's favorite, The Holy Solar Empire and its Glorious leader the Almighty Chuck, is tasteful and meets with my approval.
I'm completely enthralled by this series now.. And when they said that they invaded a primitive alien world, i was actually so outraged. You've essentially become the thing you've feared and hated the most. Millions of men, women and children who died in the initial invasion would cry in anguish to see what humanity has become.
SullenSurvivor Yeah even though I am a pro Humanity first sort of guy, when they invaded that devolping alien world for merely strategic and resourceful reasons I genuinely frowned at that. It would of benifited both races if a more co-operative solution was reached.
Stellaris needs to develop ways to incorporate pre-space fairing civilizations wihtout violence. Appear in the skys and offer or threaten, subversion. That would have made more sense here than an invasion. They came for us, let us defend you. And incidentally, those are some nice crystals on your third planet.
As I have found this only now, I would like to know if someone has the links to the overview of the different nations that could be choosen from in the beginning (United Federation, Terran Union, ...)? I have only found the one about the United Federation of Nations and I am interested in the other ones. Edit: Nevermind, found them.
Terra, Terra above all else Above all else in the galaxy When for protection and defense We stand brotherly together From the north to the south From the east to the west Terra, Terra above all else Above all else in the galaxy Terra, Terra above all else Above all else in the galaxy Unity, justice and freedom For the Terran fatherland Let us all strive for these goals Brotherly with heart and hand Unity, justice and freedom Are the pledges of fortune Prosper in the glow of this fortune Prosper, Terran fatherland Prosper in the glow of this fortune Prosper, Terran fatherland I think this is what the Greater Terran Union anthem should since it's very nationalistic just like the Union itself. But you can pick whatever you want since this is your universe. Glory to the Union and death to all that stand in the way of the Terran fatherland.

It's a lot easier to get attached to a character ( or civ) if we can put a face to them. Oh and a view of a galactic map would also help get a image !
They have become what they had hoped to stop.
It is just the beginning! So begins the dawn of an empire across the stars. Forged in fire and blood.
Did I say I didn't approve?
Well, at least they won
I KNEW IT. THE HOLY SOLAR EMPIRE EXISTS. CALLED IT.
So awesome. Love how the Terrans are so realisticly assholish
the imperium of man approves! Purge the Alien!
Incorporating the Alien. No purging, that’s for the Great Enemy.
Terran Brothers and Sisters,
The orbital network was quickly destroyed.
Better then any summer blockbuster of the last 6 years
Looking forward for more of this
That officer and his supporters should have received worse punishment for defiling the honor of the Union.
It would be amazing if these were all on spotify. Perfect to listen to when on the go.
This is one of the best B-DAY gift I've ever got. Thanks Templin!
06:00 So, basically the Terran Union acted like the Aliens that attacked Earth before...
And didn't fall flat on it's nose
I think a faction reform, demilitarisatuon of the government would've been a nice call.
This video series is so creative and engaging! I love it! I've always wondered what it would be like to have a parallel narrative for strategy games. I wish I discovered this channel when this was going on! You should definitely do this again in the future, if you haven't started one already.
My Honest to God Literal reaction upon seeing this videos thumbnail was: " Yay! Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap". You guys are THE BEST channel on RUclips.

"In 1216..." perhaps, this should be 2216?

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
😄
The drama of annexing those primitives was so good! Great storytelling skills, guys!
This whole concept is what I call creativity.
It's amazing how you incorporated the game play I was following; into a story that equals any sci fi story I have read.
I was a bit sceptic about how you would narrate such a story, but you did it greatly! Even though such xenophobia seems unrealistic to me, you made it really believable. You are the best! Keep it up!
Evoluxman way is it unrealistic ?
Fanatical purifiers is always the best choice in stellaris
Evoluxman seems quite natural esp. with a government that encourages it.
And they're separate species, not simply other cultures.
Now after playing Stellaris, rewatching this is fantastic.
I love that you make this updates about the progress of the Greater Terran Union.
HUMANITY FIRST! GLORY TO THE UNION
The writing, the narration. Taking AAR to a whole new level! Excelent!
LONG LIVE TO THE GREATER TERRAN UNION
The universe is vastly beautiful, and equaly treatining.
I got chills when she said "The Union became the thing they were trying to defend against"
Love how you included one of the old choices as the pirates. I can't wait for the next episode and really just the rest of this series.
It is only just beginning .....
Ben .Sharman Fight today. Victory tomorrow
Me watching the Holy Solar Empire video in 2020.
Romulus Chuck has returned!!
I am in love with this series ..i would love see Vader series with your voice!
This is an excellent series. Its a great way to keep the channel going when other sources of content are sparse.
Holy crap. I wish I had the skill to put a lot of story in my stellaris campaigns like you all do! This has made me pumped to play a heck of a lot more stellaris! Glory to the Greater Terran Union!
man, I saw the stream and the Christmas Eve colonization was so so apt
Yaknow, a rise man once said..
"You have become the thing you swore to destroy!"
I cant believe this came out 5 years ago.
Has it reallt been that long?
Super excited to see this continue, and I'll be signing up for your patreon! My knee-jerk reaction was a little sad that the Union was becoming more sinister, but it really is more realistic this way. For story's sake, I hope The union does something to engender some kind of good will with it's neighbors.
All hail the Greater Terran Union.... VICTORY OR DEATH....
nuyorican1985 Cowards and Criminals lead the way
i am not gona lie, tis is some great work. It shows how Stelaris with some help can create amazing stories. GJ
Great content! Would love to see you do this for others have as well. XCOM comes to mind as it had great emergent story elements.
I love this video Templin Institute!! Ever considering making a book series or requesting Netflix to make a show of it? I bet it be awesome.
This is pretty dope. I'd love to see the lore expanded. Any colonies of interest? Important battles? stuff like that
amazing!! loving this series and the questions it brings upon humanity as a whole :)
With each video, I'm more amazed but also have less of an idea what to think about this channel
Alexandre Emond I love your idea
Loving this creativity. My initial power in Stellaris was the "Terran Commonwealth" and we were really nice. Until I had to start again because there are certain perils to researching jump drives...
5:56
"You became the very thing you swore to destroy" hits hard here
Innovative way of showing of Stellaris gameplay
I love the way you narrate this. SOMEONE WRITE A GODDAMN NOVEL ALREADY.
I was missing the gaint ship that blew up a fleet
I honestly looked forward to this more than any other new video
The brief yet meaningful shout-out to Mark's favorite, The Holy Solar Empire and its Glorious leader the Almighty Chuck, is tasteful and meets with my approval.
GLORY TO HUMANITY, GLORY TO THE GTU
Wow that was awesome I actually got a chill keep it up
I'm completely enthralled by this series now..
We must unite and show our sentiment so that we can guide it to the right path
Stellaris needs to develop ways to incorporate pre-space fairing civilizations wihtout violence. Appear in the skys and offer or threaten, subversion. That would have made more sense here than an invasion. They came for us, let us defend you. And incidentally, those are some nice crystals on your third planet.
FOR THE UNION!
Breathtaking series! Absolutely amazing!
Great idea! Good way to engage your audience and have fun
As I have found this only now, I would like to know if someone has the links to the overview of the different nations that could be choosen from in the beginning (United Federation, Terran Union, ...)?
I have only found the one about the United Federation of Nations and I am interested in the other ones.
Edit: Nevermind, found them.
These kind of stories make me wish that I could live for hundreds, if not thousands, of years just to experience and see everything for myself.
This is amazing and is exactly what I have been looking for! thank you
This could be a tv show, it's so good wtf?
Terra, Terra above all else
Above all else in the galaxy
When for protection and defense
We stand brotherly together
From the north to the south
From the east to the west
Terra, Terra above all else
Above all else in the galaxy
Terra, Terra above all else
Above all else in the galaxy
Unity,justice and freedom
For the Terran fatherland
Let us all strive for these goals
Brotherly with heart and hand
Unity,justice and freedom
Are the pledges of fortune
Prosper in the glow of this fortune
Prosper, Terran fatherland
Prosper in the glow of this fortune
Prosper, Terran fatherland
I think this is what the Greater Terran Union anthem should since it's very nationalistic just like the Union itself. But you can pick whatever you want since this is your universe. Glory to the Union and death to all that stand in the way of the Terran fatherland.
