Brilliant show i was centre stage front row in the balcony. Thanks Rick, for a great night and some lovely memories. Congrats on the CBE, more than deserved.
I saw this set at The Victoria Hall, Hanley. The official tour page doesn't list the gig, but I used to keep a gig diary and it was 17 November 1981, in my first term at Uni. During the gig, Rick had mentioned that he loved playing there because one of his favourite curry houses was right behind the venue. After the gig, I got autographs and then went hunting for the curry house, and soon found it - the Omar Khayyam. I asked the waiter if this was where Rick was dining (I actually arrived before Rick and entourage), and he sat me on a table for 12, thinking I was part of the party! I was, of course, unceremoniously booted off when Rick arrived, and then sat on my own on a nearby table, listening to his tales and jokes and eating my first every curry - no idea what it was, but it cost £4 and left me short for the taxi fare back - I had to walk the last three miles back to halls.
I remember the singer, though I remember a somewhat better performance than the one shown here. Regarding the line-up, found this on a Mu:Zines website:
"At a recent concert given at Hammersmith Odeon, London, Rick performed the setlist for his 'World Tour' that he has just about embarked upon. To save expense, the orchestra and choir were not used. Instead, the opening overture was played on stereo cassette through the PA with closed curtains. On stage Rick played his keyboards with Tim Stone on rhythm guitar, Steve Barnacle on bass guitar and Tony Fernandez on drums. Gary Barnacle also joined in on sax for one number.
This electronic rock group played plenty of instrumental music interspersed with vocals provided by the backing singers: Stevie Lange, Vicki Brown and Soni Jones. Steve Harley and Cori Josias performed all the solo vocal parts."
Saw him at Sheffield City Hall four days later - my first gig!
The best was Keith Emerson
Absolutely wonderful. When this show came to Porto Alegre (Brasil) (1981 I think) I couldn`t go because I was too young - 37 years late finally I can! Thanks Mr. Wakeman!
RICK you are my idol!!! I saw you 3 times in Bs As. and one of them was "1984", at Luna Park! it was unforgettable!! Thanks for all Rick!
Hola Mar aquí Guille en Porto Seguro
Estimado Rick, una obra maestra, soberbia, magistral, sublime. Un placer escucharla. MUCHAS GRACIAS !!!!
Saw Rick and the English Rock Ensemble at the Odeon in 1976, superb and my first hero in music 👍
Musicians of new generations cannot think such complex and deep music. This is pure musical genius using technology at its infancy with such virtuosity.
awesome mr wizarkman..you play our lives since yes until today!!
My First rock concert in 1981 in Goiânia, Brasil...How many memories of a magic time that never comes back...only in my mind and in my heart.
Just saw Rick Wakeman in Los Angeles... a month ago...
Rick "fuck " Wakeman 🎹🎵🎼🎶🎼🎶🎹😎👊
Thanks for sharing this wonderful concert of 30 years ago.
First YES concert 1972 Phoenix, all can say is Thank You Rick
in 1981 both Rick and Keith Emerson were endorsed by Korg, and Rick's setup here looks like a page straight out of the Korg catalog from that year. On his right (facing the stage), top to bottom he has 2 LP-10 pianos, 2 Sigmas and 2 Lambdas. Behind him was a BX-3 organ with a PS-3200 on top, and on his left, he has the PS-3200 keyboard on top of a Trident, next to a MS-10 vocoder. The only non-Korg instrument there is his Yamaha CP-80 piano, under the Trident.
maybe Korg had a "no other brands" clause in their endorsement (the Yamaha CP-80 being an exception because Korg didn't have an equivalent then), but it is odd to see Rick without his usual pair of Minimoogs - in a 1979 interview with Keyboard Magazine he called them "his children". By 1981 he could have updated them to a pair of Moog Sources.
.....bet he wished he just one Kronos back then rather than that lot. It wasn’t korg”s finest moment, (PS 3200 aside).
Yes well before the day of sampled or ROM based acoustic pianos being available. I remember my setup started with a Yamaha CP - 30 electric piano and then added a Moog Prodigy, then eventually an Akai X7000 sampler - and started leaving the Moog at home - eventually trading it for some wedge monitors and a guitar wireless..."Because it did not have MIDI" (an epic fail!) But then I found the only and most convincing acoustic piano affordably available was a "Clavinova" home series table top piano module which was way ahead of it's time - it had RCA outputs and a wall wart power supply being designed for home use to sit atop your home console as a supplement sound module. I would set it atop my Akai X7000 and layer one of 16 samples available from the Akai with the Yamaha piano. The result was quite impressive for the time, though a pain to wire up the adapters. "Hey let's put a phase shifter on my CP-80!"
I always thought he had 4 Lambdas.
Wonderful Wonderful Nostalgia. I was at this gig, Thanks Rick.
What a Master Piece! That is all..
I got to see Rick on the center of the earth tour in Cincinnati back in the day, opening was gentle giant.

Rick Wakeman the master on Keyboards ...................
Saw RW at Sheffield City Hall on the same tour - Saturday November 21st 1981, my first gig ever. ever, and a few nights after this was on TV. My first experience of loud live music - marvellous. Was devotee of the man in the funny clothes back then.
Disappointing that he used the same lines about Tim Rice sending his apologies late in the afternoon at the Sheffield gig as well!
He's so cool.
I haven't met Rick but i did win one of the two Korg Lambda ES50s he is playing in this video. It was a prize in a raffle in Rose Morris music store on Denmark Street in London in 1988/9. My son now plays it as part of his set up and absolutely loves the sound.
This sort of stuff is one of the things I like best on YT. I love to read notes like this underneath music vids
All best!
Actual 100% genuine no-holds-barred drinking and driving: has the actual can in his hand as he gets out from the driver's seat. How times have changed!
For sure. He has been sober for years and years.
Rick Wakeman arrives in style, real class, a Morris Minor Traveller and kerbs it!😂
Hah! Rick Wakeman, the bastard child of Mr. Bean and Frank Drebin!
I liked this performance
Rick and his band played well! November 11, 1981
Hammersmith Odeon
I was there! You made us repeat the opening cheers- you said it was been recorded! Still have the ticket stub tucked in the album cover.
This is quite a gem. Love seeing you play all those Korgs and the CP70 (80?).
It's a CP80, 88 keys. :)
Amazing super keyboardist!
Great vocalist extraordinaire
seen RW many times in concert from Blackpool to Hull to Barrow in Furness (nil when playing against Brentford) always amazing show
eu fui ver no Recife em 81. Tenho autógrafo do Rick
I went to the show in Belo Horizonte in 1980 at the gym in mineirinho, Brazil
One of awesome rock keyboardists
Beautiful

Increible !!
THX from Prague!
classic!
Fantástico.
.... He has a such a lovely voice ....
Left ball is rising.
Rick came to Buenos Aires with his band in 1981. He was promoting "1984". It was an impressive show, a band with great quality and talent. But strangely about this singer -Cori Josías- I only remember her interpretation of "Julia" ... and her very tight red pants.
Genial!
Nice bit of drink driving by Rick at the beginning.
Aliás, escrevi uma crônica desse show no meu blog.
Wow, very unique.
Very Nice ,..
Rick baby, what were you thinking man??? That solo chick was out to lunch without a lunch pail! Her backup singers were tryin to save her!
evidence that even good musicians can play disastrously bad music, not to mention the screaming chick
she was good apart from the high bits, bit too much for her, the whole thing sounds weak
Your comment is spot on.
Maybe cause she's pretty?
Gemial!!!!!!😲😲
Espetacular!
Great stuff!
Música perseverantes
Very nice 👍 indeed
❤un grande umile della nostra generazione ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How is it possible I haven't heard of you?!
????
@@falconquest2068 I mean the artist Rick Wakeman.. I feel i have missed out.
@@grossteilfahrer I'm surprised since I knew what you meant. I feel sorry for you not having experienced Rick Wakeman's music. Here is a good sample.

I love that girl on vocals...enormous performance!!!
Cori Josias
she ruins it imo but thats me
I love HER, not her voice. 7:20 worst falsetto EVER!
I was at the Glasgow Apollo gig from the same tour. Absolutely loved it but Cori Josias? Terrible. The only down side of an otherwise brilliant gig.
@@jennycooper5364 Agreed!
Hola Rick
I'm sure 'The Warning' was part of this set but I can't find it. I had it on audio tape recorded off air at the time and it was brilliant
The gratest musician I've ever seen & heard.
I've saw this show in Recife- Brazil
Maravilha
Look, all the neg comments about vocals...there’s obviously little back line monitors to hear and you can see the girls pointing to the desk for more db.
Thumbs up. The first coment about the vocals here that makes sense.
Getting a good stage monitor sound was a challenge back then. If a singer can't hear the own voice properly she/he will be off key.
Jeez - I wonder how they managed before electronics were introduced. I remember listening to my voice bounce off the back wall. But beyond that - she has a thin, thready voice - and there's no monitor in the world can fix that. I hate to say it - but Ashley Holt could do a better job - and HE sings just as bad.
RW seems to have a real blind spot when it comes to vocalists. Except for Damian's vocals on "Out There" - which were superb.
Ótimo
Vocal tenebroso esse. Wakeman nao foi feliz nessa escolha.
Anyone know Rick's rig rundown on this video?
Thanks for share. Great performance.. virtuoso and genius...what a voices...
Someone in the comments just said that this is CORI JOSIAS?!
She did a brilliant job for Marillion in 1987, even if you hate their music, just watch a bit of Live at Loreley, and Clutching at Straws album, it can testify how good her voice is when well applied, specially on the last movement of the track "The Last Straw".
ruclips.net/video/iyb0X6W00RU/видео.html
Wow.
She must have fired her manager back then, or told him to never accept a job without knowing what the freaking vocal range is required.
She could of course have backed out on rehearsals, but I guess human dynamics kick in more by then, with Rick probably not having other options, or she was just too ambitious.
You wouldn't ask Frank Sinatra to sing Yes, and that doesn't diminish how great Frank's voice is (not comparing Cori to Frank but just as an example of course).
This was really dreadful, and I'm sure she knew it.
Agreed. She was awful.
Amazing footage does anyone know the band members .Great to see Rick gigging at the Hammy.Days long gone
I am not sure of the drummer, but I think that's Tim Renwick on guitar. Its Steve Barnacle on bass and his brother Gary on sax.
@@baward cheers for that I recon that's Tony Fernadas on drums who's been with Rick for ages
@@baward Tony Fernandez. Been playing with Rick since 1964!
Tony Fernandez on drums, Tim Stone on guitar and Steve “Boghead” Barnacle on bass. Boghead apparently had a “thing” with the lead singer - Cori Josias - at the time. Oh - and Daisy Wakepiece on keyboards.
Would be nice to know who the other performers in the concert are, drummer, vocalists, guitarist, bassist etc.
The drummer is Tony Fernández
@@conandoyle6628 Sax player was Gary "Boghead" Barnacle, Cori Josias on vocals
Rick, Polska też Cię kocha
I refuse to acknowledge a capeless Wakeman.
.... agree ... but it was the 80 ´s even the THIN WHITE DUKE undisguised himself ...
HEE HEE!!
13 marzo Roma ❤
😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Om 🎉grande saund 🎉bravo00 🎉
Korg has come along ways since those days their Kronos has got to be one of the best work stations out there I'm lucky to be the owner of the 88 key gold limited edition Kronos and what a beast it is just so much you can do with it pity I can't play like Rick though lol
I'm so glad you told us you've got one. You lucky person. Mind you it's more dosh than luck. Not cheap.
