I think this issue speaks to Nolan's unique approach to film. His stories always track technically, but I often don't feel particularly connected to the characters, and the Dark Knight trilogy is no exception. When Rachel dies in the second film, I understand why Bruce and Harvey are destroyed by it, but I don't feel it myself. It doesn't resonate for me. It's the same with his other films, like inception and The Prestige. I am witness to the magicians' obsession, or Dom Cobb's grief over his wife, but I don't feel it with the characters. That changed, I think, with Interstellar. It may not be as good or clever a movie as the others, but it lets you sit with the main characters and feel their emotions deeply. Dunkirk did that as well, using very little dialog, but just letting you experience the events along with the characters. Instead of explaining, it just lets you in. Tenet was back to the old routine of swiss-watch concepts; impossibly complex and brilliant, but quite cold and mechanical.

I was born before this movie and at the age of 13 I found the DvD of Batman Begins and let me just say it gave me hope that Christopher Nolan brought this version of Batman which he did because in 2005 or so DC was trying to do a cinematic universe with early 2000's DC movies like Superman Returns, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises along with others, But still, At least Christopher Nolan did his best.
I’ll never forget the day I was at the theatre watching the previews. Didn’t even knowing this movie was made. And then I saw this guy shooting up someone and he yells out “where are you!!!!!! And he backs up and there’s Batman upside down and says “here…. I lost my mind! I thought i was looking at a horror movie before. Best movie surprise ever!
I just rewatched this movie yesterday and it was amazing! It’s probably my least favorite Dark Knight movie but it’s still very good. Love the introduction of Bale’s Batman in this movie.
Athought this is my personal favorite out of Nolan's trilogy (it was the most "comic booky" one out of the three), I do agree with pretty much everything you said. Being too realistic hurts the world of Batman which is why Batman himself is the weakest element of these movies. However this trilogy has the best Gordon and the best Alfred.
I feel the same way about these movies the same you feel about those early batman movies Chris. These movies were my introduction to the batman character and his rogues gallery. I remember owning a DVD copy of the dark knight when I was like 7 or 8 years old because I loved it so much. Now at the age of 15 (16 in may) I find myself appreciating them more and more everything I rewatch them. Even though I love the early batman movies(minus Batman and Robin) these hold a special place in my heart that I'll never forget. Can't wait for The Batman on Friday!!!!!
I haven't watched Batman Begins since I seen in theaters. But looking back at it, I am glad Christopher Nolan was able to take Batman in a different direction than the previous Batman films of the 90's.
SOMEONE ACTUALLY SAID IT! I'm right there with you, Chris. Batman Begins is just an okay to good tier movie for me, not mind-blowingly amazing. I respect it though because of how it made Batman non-campy again and started the trend of more serious superhero movies. The Dark Knight, however, gets all the praise it deserves.

Same! Like I respect the realistic elements from Batman Begins and the rest of The Dark Knight trilogy. But I still got a soft spot for the older Batman films as well.😂
While I did enjoy the Nolan-trilogy (at least the first two), I cant say I love them. They just don't feel like proper Batman-movies. Yes, you have Batman/Bruce and other characters. But the charm of Batmans universe is gone to me. Gotham is just New York, the Tumbler, while it has been growing on me recently, doesnt feel like a Batmobile, and the more fantastical elements are gone. I guess the whole "Batman in our world" just isnt interesting enough for me. Its like taking a colorful painting (ironically) and painting over it with grey and white.
@@megamikethemovieman the whole water pollution plot line felt (to me) out of place, the Tumbler’s rampage of Gotham felt a bit out of character, and the action was quite poorly shot and edited.
The DarkNight trilogy is my favorite Batman movies. The villains where done right, but I do would had want for Batman to kill in this movie. One of the reasons I like this trilogy is cause the movie felt real, like it was happening in the real world. It just felt realistic. I actually wish they had continued this universe. I hope that in the next Batman movie does as good as this trilogy.
When you compare the fight scenes of the Batfleck vs Baleman it’s not even close. But the story and the characters and the acting help you overlook these things

I would love to say Chris doesn’t sound like a fool in this video but I just can’t. This really does sound foolish. Every other sentence contradicts the last. Sounds like he likes the movie but has complaints about pretty much ALL of it. And that’s not even the most foolish thing about this review. It’s the comparisons to previous movies and the simple fact that these movies are just better in EVERY single way imaginable. The worst of these(TDKR) is still absolute miles better than anything before or after them. If you’re a Batman fan and a film fan I don’t see how you could think otherwise. This movie is beautiful, deliberate, emotional, just the right amount of dark for this iteration, and the pacing makes it the best comic origin story in film history.
I honestly feel different about a lot of what I said here after rewatching the originals and seeing the new film. So that contradicts what I said, but I was emotional, and still I’m not contradicting myself as much as maybe you were in this review. Seemed like every sentence was like this was great, but this is what sucks about it. It was a bit confusing…love you and your channel, and definitely started that first comment off a bit disrespectful. My apologies and respect brother
My favorite 2 so far are The Dark Knight & Batman Begins. Such great movies. Fight choreography was lacking in all previous versions. The warehouse scene im B vs S was the best but I want to see more martial arts and skills. Hopefully The Batman brings it with that.
I think the one aspect for movies like these that bother me is the villain always blowing up or torching the heroes base. The most iconic things in comics are their bases, avengers base, the batcave like STOP DOING THAT
11:31 I've never liked how the Nolan films influenced later versions of the Batmobile so it went from a car with weapons and gadgets to just a tank. Especially in Batman Arkham Knight which forces you to overuse the Batmobile to solve almost every single Riddler puzzle and have repetitive fights with tanks and drones.
3c films chris you are an og the goat thank you so much for making these reviews there so freaking awesome thanks my guy you keep me entertain every time you upload and you are so funny AF thanks man I appreciate all the hard work you put in
"... one of the greatest Batman trilogies..." Name a single other Batman "trilogy." But, yeah, this trilogy is the ultimate movie version of The Emperor's New Clothes. The Dark Knight was, of course, the best, and arguably one of the best super hero movies ever, but even that's arguable after a few of the Marvel movies. Here's hoping The Batman is the real deal.
I have watched Batman begins probably about 4 or 5 times and I love it. It's a very good inspirational movie. The Nolan trilogy was great but one big problem that I hated was how some of the villains went out for instance Bane getting blasted by Catwoman and scarecrow getting tasered while on his horse and riding off,I mean here comes the scarecrow with his damn horse breathing fire and I thought it was about to go down but then he gets tasered and goes out like a chump. I saw it in theatres and I was legitimately shocked by the twist of who ras Al ghul was and that was pretty great. Still foolish how he expected Bruce to just turn on Gotham like that 😆. I still think it was a really good movie with a great cast. Carmine Falcone was played brilliantly by his actor and was a surprisingly good villain.
I totally agree. Like many little touches in Batman Begins (nice coat) Scarecrow's end was a little too glib, too cheap. It reduced the character's power and importance to basically nothing. But I think the problem you point out with Ra's Al Ghul was far worse. You zeroed in on the key problem, he expected Bruce to turn on Gotham without actually making a case. If Bruce had actually bought into Ra's Al Ghul's philosophy, at least in theory, then at the crucial moment, he might remember Rachel's line "your father would be ashamed of you," and find himself unable to go through with it. Instead, he isn't even tempted. He's had a change of heart since wanting to kill Joe Chill, but we don't actually witness that change. And because we don't see Bruce transform from a would-be murderer to someone who refuses to kill, Ra's Al Ghul's intention for him in Gotham him seems like a plotline that was dead before it began. Wouldn't it have been something to see Ra's convert Bruce, radicalize him into something akin to a suicide bomber. He's almost ready to help the League of Shadows punish all of Gotham for what it did to his parents, only to find, deep within all that hatred, the last part of his parents that are still alive, the hope of saving the city. That plotline exists within the ideas of Batman Begins' script, but it just doesn't emerge.
Get out of my brain hole friend! I said the same things in my reviews about how those villains were taken out in a cheap way. Check out my reviews if you would like so we can continue the conversation.
My biggest problem with the Nolan trilogy: the fact the he felt the need to ground everything in reality. For example, in my opinion, the bat mobile does not look like a bat mobile, it just looks like a tank. Same thing with the bat, glider, and everything else, excluding the bat pod. None of the gadgets feel like Batman, the feel like military gadgets.
I will say I agree with you on Scarecrow, I wish this movie was more focused on him as the main villain. Cillian Murphy played the hell out of that role.
It's a shame he became more and more of a minor character as the trilogy went on going from a terrorist who helped the League of Shadows to attack Gotham to a drug dealer to a mock hanging judge.
Exactly. Scarecrow is a MAJOR villain. I would love to see him in a movie as a big bad. Honestly Batman Begins would've been better if they left Scarecrow as the main villain and kept Ras, Bane, and Talia as the main villains in Rises. It would've been better as SURPRISE, The REAL Ras revealed and was behind the whole story arch of the trilogy.
No, this film was written the way it needed to be. With the Tim Burton movies totally focused on the villains, we needed a Batman movie that actually focused on Batman/Bruce Wayne and that’s what they gave us. The film didn’t need to focus on Scarecrow
I agree with everything you said about this movie. I've always wanted to see a grounded Batman movie and for years I thought this was it. I hope The Batman gets it right. Also, Batinson's suit is dope as fuck. Favorite batsuit of all time.

Christian Bale for me is the best Batman, but only in Batman Begins for me, his “Batvoice” changes between movies and in the dark knight and rises I find it to be be way more silly and too much. In Begins though it’s more subtle, smooth and calm. Surprisingly out of all the ones we’ve gotten, Val Kilmer is my favourite Batman, I really don’t like what Batman Forever ended up being, but his Batman and Bruce Wayne is the best we’ve ever gotten in live action for me in terms of his performance. I wish he got a good Batman movie so people would appreciate his version a lot more, because it’s one that gets lost in the mix and isn’t talked about enough. Im realising so far we’ve gotten very lucky with Batman movie casting, there isn’t a single Batman we’ve had that I think the casting is off, not just pertaining to Batman either all his villains so far have been cast perfectly for the time they were made, I can’t wait to see where the Pattinson cast ranks among the predecessors. Love the reviews Chris glad to see the channels really taking off too! (Sorry ya boy wrote a damn short story).
Batman Begins is one of my favorite DC Film, used to watch it a lot of times as a kid, really loved the origin story of Bruce Wayne on how became Batman.
The way I see the Nolan Batman films, is that it’s the story that the “Legend” of The Batman is based on. I know that’s not what it was intended to be, but it’s grounded in reality feel can be seen as “What actually happened.” I’ll always love the films I grew up with. I just really enjoyed this take on the Batman universe for its out of left field approach.
I think they're okay too, but I personally was never able to get into them as much as other people either. Like I find it distracting, for example, that half the dialogue is comprised of characters sounding like they're thoroughly analyzing the themes and ideas of their own movies instead of talking like regular people. Christian Bale does a good job with what he's given but to me his Batman comes across as so stoic that it borders on him looking bored half the time; not to mention, for all the talk of fear in Begins, I don't find his Batman even remotely scary. The characters certainly TALK about how scary he is, but for me it never lands, especially with the heroic theme music playing. Granted I DO like the look and feel of Begins the most, and I really wish Nolan had kept that grimy aesthetic for the sequels. Again, I certainly don't hate these movies, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my fair share of problems with them. Pattinson's version is shaping up to be more what I would've wanted the Nolanverse Batman to be like. Can't wait to see it!
I just find it funny that some people complained about Matt Reeves casting black people to play Catwoman and James Gordon while they were totally okay with Ra’s Al Ghul being played by a white guy in every single live action incarnation of the character.

The beginning of a great trilogy
Let me guess your a my hero academia fan?
@@megamikethemovieman how did u know😳
@@plusultra7746 your icon and name. I’m a big fan too. I reviewed Batman begins as well and all the classic Batman movies too if you would like to check those out in my channel my friend? I trust your opinions.
He probably meant the Movie.
Oops I meant movie
Athought this is my personal favorite out of Nolan's trilogy (it was the most "comic booky" one out of the three), I do agree with pretty much everything you said. Being too realistic hurts the world of Batman which is why Batman himself is the weakest element of these movies. However this trilogy has the best Gordon and the best Alfred.
How long you been a Red Hood fan?
@@megamikethemovieman For 12 years now.
My bro! I know all these videos take a lot of work you're doing overtime right now! Much appreciated
I can’t believe you’re doing this series, it feels like yesterday that we had just a little teaser for the Batman
What have you thought of the trailers for the Batman?
The funny scene of this movie was definitely when batman pulled the guy up and down in the alley but he deserves it for stealing money.
Yeah. Classic Batman move, delivered perfectly
I haven't watched Batman Begins since I seen in theaters. But looking back at it, I am glad Christopher Nolan was able to take Batman in a different direction than the previous Batman films of the 90's.
How do you personally like Batman Begins?
SOMEONE ACTUALLY SAID IT! I'm right there with you, Chris. Batman Begins is just an okay to good tier movie for me, not mind-blowingly amazing. I respect it though because of how it made Batman non-campy again and started the trend of more serious superhero movies. The Dark Knight, however, gets all the praise it deserves.
Do you think the movie gets better after seeing the other dark knight movies?

I feel the same way about scarecrow being underutilized in this movie too.
Is it just me, or would a Matt Reeves version of Scarecrow be fire

Regardless of opinion, you cant deny this film brought Batman back into mainstream popularity.
Batman begins has always been my favorite Batman movies especially how it dives into the philosophy behind what fuels Bruce to don the cape and cowl, and I also appreciated Liam's role in this especially the speech about 'will'. That being said it's always welcoming to see another's perspective on a movie even if it doesn't mesh with my own :) Well done video Chris!
I remember not really caring for Batman begins when I watched it as a kid I thought it was eh. But after rewatching it at 24 it’s pretty good and it holds up. Easily a 8/10 movie. I think the game left a sour taste in my mouth lol

Like I respect the realistic elements from Batman Begins and the rest of The Dark Knight trilogy.
But I still got a soft spot for the older Batman films as well.😂
What’s your favorite classic Batman movie?
I just loved the light-hearted moments in this movie. Very subtle yet effective.
I like this movie a lot, but the third act is definitely a bit rough.
Ya what makes it a bit rough?
@@megamikethemovieman the whole water pollution plot line felt (to me) out of place, the Tumbler’s rampage of Gotham felt a bit out of character, and the action was quite poorly shot and edited.
@@TitleInProgress understand. I reviewed Batman begins on my channel too if your would like to see that, I trust your thoughts.
What is your favorite out of the trilogy?
This was a great review man! It always makes me happy to hear other peoples opinions about these movies!

Personally I love this movie!

I understand and respect your opinion
I honestly feel different about a lot of what I said here after rewatching the originals and seeing the new film. So that contradicts what I said, but I was emotional, and still I’m not contradicting myself as much as maybe you were in this review. Seemed like every sentence was like this was great, but this is what sucks about it. It was a bit confusing…love you and your channel, and definitely started that first comment off a bit disrespectful. My apologies and respect brother
Just found out that Christian Bale played Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. My world is feels complete now.
My favorite 2 so far are The Dark Knight & Batman Begins. Such great movies.
Fight choreography was lacking in all previous versions. The warehouse scene im B vs S was the best but I want to see more martial arts and skills. Hopefully The Batman brings it with that.
I’ll be honest man I had just as much fun with this one as I did the Dark Knight controversial opinion I know lol
This is my favorite Batman movie. Nice to hear your thoughts on the movie!
Several Animated trilogy , Batman to Batman forever trilogy
Would you consider it the best trilogy of all time?
Holy shoot I just finished watching the Batman and Robin review and checked my subscriptions and found this lol. Perfect timing.
@@nsasupporter7557 no I understand that, I just said I wish Scarecrow was a main villain as opposed to a henchman

One of the best superhero movies ever made!

The way I see the Nolan Batman films, is that it’s the story that the “Legend” of The Batman is based on. I know that’s not what it was intended to be, but it’s grounded in reality feel can be seen as “What actually happened.”
I’ll always love the films I grew up with. I just really enjoyed this take on the Batman universe for its out of left field approach.
Honestly my favorite part of this whole trilogy was The dark Knight rises post-credit scene with Robin.
Your favourite part of the entire trilogy was a bad setup for future movies that we didn’t get? It wasn’t a post credit scene either, btw
