For the longest time I've wanted to see a movie in the style of the original "Detective Comics" Batman. This one comes really close. Congrats, Matt Reeves.
The fact that there is STILL people out there coitizing and saying "decent batman but a horrible Bruce Wayne"... like you can't be serious, man! THAT WAS THE POINT. Bruce Wayne is atrophied in this movie. The sun hurts Bruce's eyes because he hasn't seen sunlight in months. Batman has completely taken over his entire life and there is no Bruce left. He is focused soley on "vengance" for the better part of the movie. This movie was Batman learning to be Batman. I am almost positive the next movie will explore him coming to terms with the necessity of Bruce as well and you will see a stark contrast in Bruce from the first and second movies.
Well said
Couldn't have said it better myself good sir, excellent writeup.
The is by far in my opinion the best adaptation of the caped crusader! 🖤🦇
And the first older Alfred who actually looks like he was an MI6 badass who taught Bruce how to fight. No offense to Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons, but c'mon.
Same.
How nice of Collin Ferrel to visit the set and see his fellow actors and meet whoever was playing the Penquin.
"I wanted to get to a place where the image he was projecting was being reflected back AT him and it rocks him to his core". That is why Matt was the absolute best pick for director
Thank you. I worked dailies on this beautiful project prior to lockdowns amazing crew on every part and department
You know Pattinson in reality?
@ only worked with him and met him behind camera(my department) so I wouldn’t say Know him as a friend but have worked alongside him and conversed with multiple times
@@TehMr This is beautiful! great experience! listen but you who were close to him I have a question just out of curiosity... for when 'The Batman' was filming when you saw him did he use an electric razor or a razor blade? How many times a week Robert shave beard? (He hates it) because in the film I notice that he has a stubble law sometimes it seems he has always used an electric perhaps because of his sensitive skin.
@tylerdurdenfc00 no idea the makeup dept would know in depth and I wasn't there long enough to be so close to them
@ but when you often saw Rob live was he clean shaven or sometimes he had an unkempt beard? seeing him in the film he uses an electric razor in my opinion he has sensitive skin
The only thing this movie fell short on was more Riddler screen time. Paul Dano was the absolute best person for that role. They could've done more.
Hands down one of the most disturbing villains I've seen in a movie
They could've done less. Movie should've been over when The Riddler won by getting the Batman to lead Falcone out of the club. Somber noir ending. The Riddler wins. What's so wrong with that?
The entire third act is unnecessary
That should've been the whole point of the movie. Batman operated out of vengeance, this caused him to make a fatal mistake he cannot allow himself to make again (you can't show this by having Batman save people while news choppers film it all, that's not who Batman is)
@@humbleopulence It is. You just dont understand the character overall.
@@thy-arkham Batman is a dark knight. He uses the shadows. He does not publicize himself. What good would that do? It's demystifying him, which is the last thing he needs if criminals are going to fear him.
I love it when people like you say something and then don't back it up. Well ... Back this up, bud.
Also, get some self awareness
@@thy-arkhamHe probs has a curfew. But This is a year 2 Batman. Bruce doesn’t care what’ll happen to him. Til the Riddler shows him that Batman has been inspiring others to use “Vengeance” with Revenge. The book also tells you more but Edward shouldn’t have done any of that. Also another reason to the “Gotham Creates Villains” this is also one of those scenarios….
For me the ultimate Batman movie, it is the first one to really captures the comics i love where Batman is the main character and is a detective throughout the movie. Pattinson is in my opinion the best Batman he acts so well in the costume and spends the most time as Batman versus the previous movies. I cant wait for The Batman 2, i just want to get back into this world and see where theyre going to take the story.
It is amazing because matt took it back to being like the graphic novels
I love the Batman universe Matt Reeves has created with one exception, the fact that Bruce seems to have only been trained to fight by Alfred. The years long training abroad by countless masters of their crafts makes Batman a unique, unbeatable fighter. If he's only been trained by a former MI6 agent then he's only as good as any other MI6 agent.
It was confirmed that in prequel novel that when was young Bruce train in the gym of Wayne Tower, after that with Alfred every times… at certain point he did travels around the world and after came back to Gotham ….
what are you talking about? There is one scene where Alfred says " I taught you to fight" , he didn't say " I taught you to fight and I had you sign a legally binding agreement that you will not spend a single second in any situation where you could possibly obtain even a shred of additional skills or knowledge related to combat, self defense or violence of any kind."
@ In the prequel novel “Before The Batman: An Original Movie Novel,” Bruce Wayne’s journey to becoming Batman is detailed extensively. After the tragic loss of his parents, Bruce, under the guardianship of Alfred Pennyworth, immerses himself in rigorous training. He begins by utilizing the gym facilities within Wayne Tower during his childhood, where he hones his physical abilities. As he matures, Alfred, a former military man, takes a hands-on role in Bruce’s training, imparting combat skills and discipline. This foundational training with Alfred is pivotal in shaping Bruce’s early development. Subsequently, Bruce embarks on a global journey, traveling to various countries to master diverse martial arts and disciplines. This period of worldwide exploration allows him to acquire a vast array of skills, preparing him for his future role as Gotham’s vigilante.
This narrative aligns with the portrayal in the comic “The Man Who Falls,” where Bruce’s path to becoming Batman involves extensive global training and personal development.
Therefore, any assertion that Bruce Wayne did not undergo such comprehensive training is unfounded and contradicts established narratives within the Batman lore.

The best batman in cinema
Glyn Dillon's design of that cowl, plus Greg Fraser's elegant use of light, made for a real masterpiece of costuming. Despite the commitment to realism, this Batman felt more like a true comic book character than any other, simply because the mask and the the actor's face blend into a seamless whole. Comic characters like Batman are defined by their masks, but when that translates to the screen, we're usually stuck searching for the performance beneath the mask. Here, it doesn't get in the way at all. It's part of the performance. That's why they could get away with letting letting Pattinson stay masked the vast majority of the movie. He's not hidden behind the mask. The mask is part of him.
Greg Fraser is coming back for the sequel. The dude chose this over Dune. That's how invested he is in shooting another breathtaking Batman movie.
@@cable7152 God, I hope Fraser does both. But I don't think we NEED another Dune movie after two perfect ones, and I'd really like to see at least one more Batman, if only to perfect the formula the first one created.
@rottensquid I 100% agree brother.
Matt Reeves is amazing an emotional director and storyteller
Love a proper old school DVD-extra type making of doc! I've not even seen this movie yet, but I enjoyed this a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
Watch it!!!
5:22 - This quick action shot is so well executed. ⚡🎥 Flawless work!
Thinking that this was being made right as the pandemic started makes it seem so unreal
Batman-A violent nightmare that beats criminals half to death
Rob- "I like how squeaky the suit sounds"
A Batman masterpiece.
I bloody love this film
The Batman is proibably my favorite Batman movie ever. I used to say it was right behind The Dark Knight, but honestly I think The Batman has surpassed it in my mind now after watching it 3 times. The sequel is the only DC movie I'm excited for right now.
They've already started to build this world so well... I think Gunn should just let this batman be apart of the Universe. Cause i want to see more of this Batman and It's best each hero have their own type of style. Then when they come together in Justice League its like all these vastly different worlds coming together as 1. Instead of the Marvel approach where all the movies feel the same with the same colors, vibes, plot points, etc. Rob did ok. Between the detective batman and the world they've made with the Penguin show too; Gotham is rich with content.
Out of this, we got an amazing show in The Penguin. Chef's kiss!!!
Terrible show that pit the penguin second tier to the boring female villain and his plucky urban sidekick. Woke show.
@@HeroicRecapsgosh you’re so miserable it’s almost funny. Show was great.
@@AntonioExists i mean truthfully i couldn't finish the show. I stopped watching after the fifth episode. It was so boring and the penguin was nothing like the character from The Batman. Its another example of humiliating the male character and propping up the random female characters that no one cares about in the first place. And his plucky urban sidekick was also emasculated and made to look weak. Hollywood is over.
@@HeroicRecaps hahaha, well you missed out if you didn't a) watch til the end and its incredible resolution, and b) was unable to appreciate what you did watch. Please cling to your hackneyed buzz words if they bring you comfort in this scary world.
20:27 when we got really excited we knew something was really exciting 😂 no shit
Batmobile 2022 is An Apex Predator driven by A Nocturnal Animal
Bar none my favorite batman movie. As a HUGE nolan fan i had to quiet my ego to admit it to myself lol.
This movie was amazing, so well done!
The BO man… gave me chills everytime i listen to it….
Dark and brooding
Like it or not it follows the Nolan formula and its the best of Batman
Integration into the DC universe
can be done but with grounded adversaries like Penguin who got an Emmy for being realistic instead of cartoonish
Maybe thats the way forward
09:34 - Did you edit out an interview with Greig Fraser? I would have loved to hear from him. He is a big part of why this movie is so good.
Shortly after Batman: Year One came out, the old guard at DC tried to incorporate Frank Miller's revolutionary approach to the character into the mainstream. Their first attempt was "A Death in the Family," by Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo. The concept was, following the lore from Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, they would kill off the unpopular second Robin, Jason Todd. I clearly remember a panel, I think it was Aparo's art, of Batman walking boldly down a dangerous Gotham street, casually exchanging polite greetings with terrified criminals. Criminals in this case meant cheap pimp caricatures. All respect to the late, great Jim Aparo, but he was no David Mazzuchelli. You could almost hear the Shaft soundtrack playing in the background of the panel. To say the least, it was hardly the Miller/Mazzuchelli gritty realism that they seemed to be trying to emulate.
I actually think Reeves might have been able to pull off a scene like that, letting his Batman lurk among the revelers at the Halloween street party. But I think he made the right choice in hiding the costume till the grand reveal. It just hits better that way.
Thought nothing could top Dark Knight Rises, then this released!!
The gunfire will always require the suspension of disbelief but this movie absolutely had the most realistic fight scenes of any Batman related movie.
I need something like this for dune broo
Thanks for watching. I just posted a Behind The Scenes video of Dune. Enjoy!

They did such a great job with collin ferrel as penguin , and hes such a good actor you wouldn't even had known it was him if they didn't tell you, i would have thought it was someone they used from sopranos lol.
The only issue I had with this was the wingsuit ending, that impact into the bridge would have killed him or at the very least crippled him. I'd have preferred the chute to open for a bit longer so the impact wasn't as hard.
Absolutely. I really enjoyed this film, but that crash landing pulled me out of it, unfortunately 🤷
Matt Reeves out here looking like the original Commissioner Gordon
Definitely my favorite batman.
Adore this movie, was glad to see Batman back more towards it's Dark Gothic style
I Think the darker yet broken soul of Bruce was very necessary
and i just could relate to this version of Bruce the most
also love Matt reeves version of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN / LET ME IN
Reeves is a very good director with a special style about him
hope the sequel to this timeline will be as good if not even better
he should make a BATMAN BEYOND saga
It's so interesting how the very premise of this film was to emphasize the absurdity of Batman by presenting him in such a matter-of-fact way, without the elaborate explanations that Nolan used to explain the absurdities, or Burton's absurd world as a backdrop to make the absurdities seem natural. Right away, Reeves presents the character just walking into a crime scene with a police officer. And if that seems ridiculous to us, it seems even more so to the other people in the scene. Everyone's just, like, what the hell is this lunatic even doing here? What is Gordon thinking? Is he on drops? Lampshading the inappropriateness of it served to make it feel more plausible.
That's why I hated the movie, everything feels ridiculous, and involuntarily funny, especially with the cringe phrase "I'm vengeance" 🤦
@@franciscovillafane4412 Well, those are the very reasons I loved it. No accounting for taste.
interesting to see one of the extras dressed up as superman in the halloween scene - wonder who the superman could or is gonna be for that universe...
The moment you realise the director looks more like Commissioner Gordon than the actor playing Commissioner Gordon.
Oh yeah, so true 😂😂😂👍
i don't trust anyone that wears a scarf like that. I'm gonna make one exception here
3:39 Snyder literally had Batman killing people. Snyder did a HORRIBLE job with Batman and clearly had no love or care about the actual character. I'm so glad he's a Hollywood failure now.
I think it's just something they say to be respectful and be seen as more professional not by us but by Hollywood.
Burtons Batman also killed. Stop crying
Bale and Keaton's batman both killed. Nothing to say about that?
Why is there so much stuff randomly cut out?
unfortunately YT made me. I’ll do it better myself in the future. Thanks for watching!
Best Batman movie so far 😎😎😎🥷🏿🌂🦇
So sorry Nolan, your’s are great and took it to another level, but man this one explores paths never explored before in a Batman movie. The whole Noir world, the dark vibe, the somewhat pesimistic and antisocial Bruce Wayne is soo interesting to watch, way more I would say than Nolan’s Wayne. Cause this guy for starters looks pale, very thin, like you can tell visually that he probably doesn’t go out in the daylight at all. He doesn’t even live the Bruce Wayne persona as much as he should, and thats very realistic to me, cause if you dedicate yourself to being Batman and everything that envolves, working at night, you would barely have time to do anything else. The city looks fantastic, almost like the video games. Not exactly the same of course cause I think the video games resemble Noir cyberpunk ambient mixed with a bit of Tim Burton gotham.
Anyway, this movie nailed it.
Pattinson did a great job better than Ben
4:58 Gordon ? lol
How can you record the screen? I have the blue ray but I don't know how. Great video!
I can't believe they did that car scene at the funeral for real without comps. That is so sketchy to have an automobie stunt and have actual people in the way. Large amounts of people.
Gifted Hater brought me here.

I can't believe how divided AND all over the place the opinions of, and reactions to, this movie are. Pretty similar to the way they are in every thread here on RUclips discussin' anythin' Quentin Tarantino related! Also anything political or religious! Personally I loved the movie along with the Quentin Tarantino works I have seen...AND works discussing him! Pretty much hate politics and love religion whenever it enhances human lives but despise whenever it's used in order to destroy others. Though, definitely don't really need to constantly hear about it from all of the other believers (OR atheists, even...) 24/7, that's for sure! Lmao
2027 🥲
the film was good but not over Batfleck :(
I just wish the score had been better. It was basically two notes from "Something in the Way" and Ave Marie.
Love everything about this movie but it was a huge swing and a miss on the wing suit idea! Hated that moment of the movie!
Do you hate the idea of a wing suit or how it was executed in the Batman ? Because Batman in a wingsuit is nothing new
牛逼
Look I'm a big fan of muscle cars and the grunge aspect but that Batmobile was really lazy. It looks like something that you'd see on the streets pretty often. I wish they'd have done something to make it more unique.
what would you have done to make it different from itself, and every other batmobile?
when im driving my open exhaust mustang, i feel like pattinson in his bat mobile
For me, the movie leaves a lot of great growing space. Batman has to grow into being Batman. Even Oz is growing into Penguin here. THIS feels more like a first stage batmobile to me. Like it could grow into something even better. I hope for the next one, it's got more of a defined look too tough. Personally I thought it was refreshing to see a muscle car instead of a half tank/half car. The car chase was amazing!
This movie was bad. Idc what y'all say. It was emo Batman 😂
Way too slow of a burn, I wished it picked up it’s pace just a bit. It felt like a good story told by a slow-talker and you just want to say “get on with it.” And batman stared at people and the camera more than do anything. Its good but not nearly as rewatch-able as Nolan’s.
Can’t help but feel that this movie just consistently misses the mark. It feels like the creatives were constantly trying too hard
just a shame the riddler was some cringey incel boring copy-and-paste movie villain. A knock off joker with a shit backstory
you wanted jim carrey in a question mark suit again?

such a weak movie
if you've got no taste, and can't follow a nuanced story blame the movie.
