A family of marmots prepares for their upcoming hibernation in a den 6 feet underground. As they prepare for their 6-month sleep, marmots dramatically lower their body temperature and survive on their body’s storage of fat and water. They only wake once every 2 weeks to rev up their heartbeat and visit a nearby tunnel used as a toilet.

I heard in another video that when marmots hibernate, they take a breath every 20 seconds, so they don’t produce that much toxic CO2 since their metabolism is so low, and it slowly leaks out of the den I’m sure, to be replaced with outside atmospheric air

If you are watching this from outside USA, when PBS says '40 degrees' it means Fahrenheit...not Celsius. I wish PBS would provide that basic information in the narration for the global audience who may not be informed.

Humans have 2 instinctive strategies. Get fat in the fall and stay in indoors and sleep more all winter like a bear, or stay a lot more active and thinner, for war against neighbor tribes, either offense or defense. Defense generally only works if there are defensible borders, like comparing Switzerland surrounded by mountains, and Poland destroyed during both world wars.

You also must be baptized & eat His flesh and drink his blood in the Eucharist & endure to the end to be Saved. Intellectual assent to Christ’s kingship is not enough.
