Beavers have been filmed sharing their dens and food over the winter, with mice and muskrats, who need the warm shelter. Kind of a neighborhood inside! I so love beavers!!! :)
What a wonderful creature Beavers are. They don't fight each other, they leave people alone, their cute and are they industrious. If fur only came from Beavers, I'd try even harder to stop the fur trade. The kind for clothes. When they build dams they make a whole new environment for more animals. And, they are cute!

I never realized how much personality beavers can have in their faces. So like what do the muskrats do? I am assuming they help the beavers trim the dams with excessive leaves or something like that so they don't have to do it themselves?
the relationship between beavers and muskrats is not symbiotic, but commensialistic. The muskrats dont't actually need to help the beavers in any way. Beavers simply tolerate them, because they don't do any harm, while the muskrats gain the food they need as a side effect of the beavers activities.
”Muskrats, with their small, slender bodies, can easily navigate the cattail forest that grows in a marsh. The much larger beaver cannot. As the muskrats feed on cattails they clear channels that the beaver can easily navigate.”
