Some pro tips: (1) A scroll compressor is still a hermetic compressor. (2) Don't trust the numbers you set the control to. (3) Set up the low pressure control settings in your van with nitrogen and a swivel tee. Saves the compressor some stress. Saves you and the customer time as well. (4) I agree, the manual high pressure reset is the way to go if it's responsible for cycling a compressor. (5) Be clean with your capillary tube routing, don't let them rub against things, and ensure they are routed as to not let oil pool in them. (6) ALWAYS LEAK CHECK THEM. The low pressure diaphragm is prone to leaking, especially on Johnson brand controls. (7) For everyone's sake, don't over torque the flare fittings...
Thank you Chris I have been in the trade for 20 yrs and just started doing refrigeration a year ago and your videos help and I thank you for this!!!! Don't work to hard.
Good Stuff CSC . I remember attending to a seminar , when Copeland scrolls fist came out , were mainly installed on AC units . The instructor mentioned that is not good to pump them down below 17 Psig . Now that I see them in refrigeration units I pump them as low as 19-20 psig . Good stuff man .
Keep the videos coming bud!! There great. Really interested to here more about like truck stock and truck setup for the changing seasons or do you keep them all the same?
this might be a lot to ask but this would be super beneficial to me and probably a lot other new guys 1. SC/SH and typical pressures to look for in a normally function WIC/WIF 2. (this might be a pain) but draw out an electrical diagram of a refrigeration system with all the most common parts and how they're wired. 3. and could you make a video of your typical diagnostic steps when you come across a unit not working? ex: step 1, visual inspections on the coil, step 2 check fans 4. and can you make a video for your step by step maintenance CC on a refrigeration system? Thank you for these videos. seriously. great job and i love your patience
Brian Pan yes I can certainly do that. If you look through my older vids I have some I’m these things. But I can try to get something out for you guys. It may be a talking vid , especially about the steps I take when approaching a call
@@Cscrefandhvac that's totally fine as well. Sorry but can u also add what typical saturation temps are supposed to be? Suction line temps? And psi for 404a and r22 I'll look deeper into your older videos
Can you do a fan cycling control, based off what I know in a two fan condensing unit you’re only wiring one fan which would be your fan closest to the inlet of the condenser. But as far as setting the switch what am I doing just setting pressure cutting out closest to pressure similar to 30 degrees over my ambient in colder ambient temps. Great vids keep me coming.
The main reason you want the scroll to stop pumping down around 15psi is to not send too much liquid through the scroll at the top of the compressor. It’ll damage and ruin the scroll compressor.
That is a thread on unit. To change out the braze in's, do you have to evacuate the system? Or can you just swap the cap lines attached to the bottom of the switch
@Cscrefandhvac Thanks, I appreciateit! I was able to adjust the unit and is now working properly If it fails completely, I'll probably use the "peanut" screw on type Lo pressuse cut-out control switch mounted of a brass T Thanks again
What can you tell me about an Emerson digital control on a copeland compressor, i’m dealing with a high pressure switch issue and how to set the cut in and cut out
Got a single unit started kicking on and off. I adjusted for longer time but next day doing again? Do they go bad or do you think gas low? Fridge is cold.
I'm in Canada and we get temperatures as low as -20f. So if I was to set a 404a scroll compressor system to cut in at 40 - 45 psi with a cutout at 15 psi, would that not likely be enough to cut in when the solenoid opens? If I have a freezer at -4f and my outdoor ambient is somewhere in the -10f to -20f at night, is it not going to be enough pressure to kick it back on?
It could be for sure. We get cold winters here but not as cold like you do at all amd I’ve had units here that would not get close to 45. You will have to lower that and lower the cut out
Hey don’t know anything on refrigeration but I was give a industrial low boy cooler with this Ranco brand but exact looking device so what do I set the high pressure at
Hey there, is this part plug and play? I'm new to this but I do have this new part to install. Someone checked the old one and it's bad. Do I need to remove refrigerant from compressor? Thanks
Well you will have to put o the system down to hook up the low side and if it’s a dual pressure control or high side control you will have to remove refrigerant depending where it goes. It it’s in the discharge line you’ll have to recover some gas most likely but if it’s on the liquid side you should be able to pump it down
If it’s failed it will be either stuck open or closed . Or the springs will wear out and it won’t calibrate correctly to sense the correct pressure. Or they can leak inside in the bellows or cap tube will break , leak or get clogged

Thanks for the info.
I take it there is no way tool adjust differential setting on the high side? Factory set?
On this particular control and most they are factory set. The differential adjustment is used on a condenser fan cycling control always .
What about setting LPC as a temp control, for the younger tech's out there
Cheers Pal. Much Appreciate. Regards from London
So clear explanation, appreciate pro!
Great video man! Always good to get a refresher on the various types of parts we run into.

Thank you 🙏🏻 for the videos Helps a lot
Nice video, I just can’t picture how the differential adjustment actually lowers the cut out pressure
It can be confusing until you get used to it .
@@Cscrefandhvac I know that you need to adjust the differential, just don’t understand how it physically works
It works by the pressure
That stores the refrigerant in the reciever?
great video as always , have u used 448 freon are the pressures the same as 22 ? thank you for ur time sir
507c is the closest to r22
Depend on where the unit install too? My area temp go down below 20 or more so gotta set low. Thank you very much
U doing great work thank you keep continue it
there's a screw type cutout stop control next the dial, did you have to adjust this at all or was the thermostat ready out of the box? thanks!
That is a thread on unit. To change out the braze in's, do you have to evacuate the system? Or can you just swap the cap lines attached to the bottom of the switch
You have to evacuate and use the new cap tubes that are on the new switch .
Also some switches have threaded connections but these particular ones in the video do not

kingofthecrease30 good point but the oil controls have a delay to make up for the pump down time
