- Hey guys! Today's video is about fragrances I hate...😬 I give reviews on some of the most overhyped and overrated perfumes I've smelled. I do mention the name of each fragrance before I start talking about it, so if I mention one of your favorites maybe skip ahead, there are definitely a handful in here that everyone seems to love 😅. It's more entertaining if I'm brutally honest anyways 😉

My mam absolutely hates it too. I love it but she says it smells like antiseptic 😅 she's said it about a few, Poison, Alien and most recently she said Baccarat Rouge Extrait smells like Deep Heat and I kinda agree but I still love it. I like perfumes that smell a bit medicinal, but I can see why people would hate them. I always HATED really floral perfumes til recently when I started to love rose notes.
The second you said Alien I hit subscribe. I just DO NOT understand the hype and I wish I could enjoy it like everyone else seems to. Bitter Peach… I could NOT wash it off! The Killian sweet scents are just bad to me. And that orange blossom note in designers… You got that so right. Your honesty is awesome.

Alien and LDBS, absolutely horrible
Love this! Fragrance preferences are so personal, but you can respect something and still not want to wear it. I feel the same about almost every Mugler fragrance I have tried. And anything that has white floral, patchouli or tuberose in the top 3 dominant notes will be a hard pass. If they are lower down the list, I may love the fragrance. I enjoy orange blossom and gourmands, but don’t like cocoa or honey in my perfume. My husband loves me in sweet fruity scents when I would rather wear more unisex leaning. He loves Wanted By Night, but my nose detects a slight hint of hot sick diarrhea. But he still wears it, just not around me and he refuses to wear my favorite men’s fragrance. All this and I don’t think any less of him. Your honesty is so refreshing when many others candy coat their reviews to stay on companies good side. And your descriptions are very accurate. Keep it up.

i liked some of these tbh but honestly your descriptions of them are so valid! they’re not for everyone and that’s why im glad there’s such a wide variety of perfumes to try!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who hates a lot of popular fragrances. I have tried around 80 fragrance samples, and according to my math I only like around 6-8% of them.
Can´t stand Alien, Alien Goddess, let alone Angel - instant gag. The same goes for Delina, Oriana (once described as a fragrance that only angels are worthy enough to wear). My biggest hates include so many popular fragrances that sometimes I wonder if my nose is broken, or if the sample or bottle has gone off.
Be it JPG La Belle, Scandal, YSL Libre, Mon Guerlain fragrances, pretty much all Lancome perfumes, Olympéa, Flowerbomb, Armani Si (which smells like beer to me), BR540, or Black Opium, the reaction is the same - instant nausea and sometimes a headache. It's either too sweet, too salty, too spicy, or too suffocating for me. The main culprit is the pear note and jasmine for me, they're everywhere.
I recently found a body mist that I absolutely love and it costs 3 dollars for 100mls... just a basic vanilla one-note fragrance. I find most fragrances so repulsive, and I´ve accepted that I'm a basic vanilla bitch - quite literally. At least I save my money lol
Wear whatever is perfect for you! I'm so glad you were able to find something that you love! It can be quite the challenge to find a fragrance that you find amazing, I usually want to change something in the perfumes I smell 🥴so it's super exciting when I find something I'm obsessed with!
Wow! I'm not alone in this! I much prefer body mist . Perfumes are way too suffocating for me i don't know why lol
I agree wholeheartedly on Angel, Alien, Delina, Oriana, JPG, Olympea. I also agree with you on pear-- it's a cause of concern, as is apple (the new Jeroboam fragrance features apple and is HORRIBLE on me). I'm unsure whether the accord is a yellow, green or red apple (they're composed differently) but it smells of men's 'aftershave' that's been left in the sun to turn entirely. Honey is another danger note that SOUNDS great but always deforms the entire composition. Pineapple sounds great too but it doesn't always 'play well with others'.

Omg same girl , I’ve gone to ulta I’ve gone to the macys department and smelled all the most popular and “most recommended perfumes and oh my gosh I cannot get behind them . They just seem so chemically manfuctured like their whole purpose is to make mass scents catered to women. Where’s the soul ? They’re lacking uniqueness and I can’t get behind them 😭

however fragrances can absolutely smell so different on every person!! also everyone has different preferences-even in smells-which is a good thing!! *also I use the dossier dupe for muglers alien bc they’re affordable & cruelty free! (that would be a cool video idea, you testing dossier’s dupes of your fave fragrances!! i have quite a few of their fragrances & i’ve really enjoyed their company)
Omg I love that 😅 but yes they definitely can! I’ve heard a lot about dossier, I actually thought of you when I first heard about them cause there aren’t too many perfume companies that are cruelty free - I’d love to feature them! I actually just ordered some samples from The 7 Virtues, Ellis Brooklyn, Pinrose and Sol de Janeiro for more cruelty free options!
I am a perfume junkie, and am older than you by a bit, but I love these videos. Sometimes I totally agree - sometimes not, but I love them. To age myself, I remember when Escape by Calvin Klein came out. I spritzed a little on my wrist then promptly went to the department store rest room and threw up. Couldn’t scrub that 💩off! Then it was a hit! I thought I’d never live through it. I don’t know if they even still make it, but that was my worst experience with fragrance ever! I’m picky AF, too, and can’t wait to try some of your suggestions! Thanks for the information and entertainment!
Me, too! I worked at the women's fragrance counter at Macy's when Escape first came out, and I just was dumbfounded every time someone bought it. I think a lot of people bought it because it was the perfume of the moment. Whenever someone asked for Escape, I wanted to ask them, "So...if your friend told you to jump off a cliff, would you do that, too?" 🙄😂

Great video! Samsara was my signature scent for YEARS. Trust me when I say she's a ghost of what she used to be 😆! The ylang ylang and Mysore sandalwood was absolutely sexy & so gorgeous back in the 90's! Now it's a flat, slightly powdery yellow floral with hardly any sandalwood. 😒
Luckily i still have both edp and edt from the earlier batches in their transparent bottles….divine! And the newer edp with full red bottle, still good. I’m scared if i run them out… 😢😢😢
Love this video! I feel like we have similar taste in perfumes but I’m just diving into the niche category. I really do like princess by Kylian more than love don’t be shy. But maybe you have more experience with better marshmallow perfumes so you can tell the difference. so I’m really interested in learning about what sweet but warm and sexy perfumes you like.
Anne really woke up on this day and chose violence! I love it! hahaha. When the first 2 hates were my loves (especially Alien Musc Mysterieux - I've gotten people to purchase that fragrance from wearing it) I thought we couldn't be friends any longer, but then you hated on some ones that I despise and you made it up to me hahaha. If you have Alien Oud Majesteux I have been on the hunt for it for years now!

When I smell Alien on someone i immediately think three things:
1.They got duped by a sales person.
2. They received it as a gift and feel obligated to wear it.
3. They suffer from a medical/personality disorder.
Alien is one of my favorite fragrances and I do have chronic anxiety and mood disorders 💀💀 so you're not exactly incorrect
Number 2. I’ve tried so hard and it just smells so strong and cheap to me.

I second the Aura review...I remember smelling it and felt my lunch rise back up in my throat. I can only say it was FUNKY and cloying. Oh yeh- SUBSCRIBED. I love your makeup, how straight your teeth are 🙂 and your overall vibe. And I second the orange blossom dislike. It is straight basura & every fragrance you mentioned with it I dislike (I'm looking at you black opium and libre).

What I hate is when a scent I used to love gets reformulated into something I no longer recognize, and worse, actively dislike as a result. I’m outing my age here, but I was SO happy when Clinique brought back Calyx (formerly from Prescriptives), and SO sad when it was NOTHING like I remembered it (you would have hated it, btw, the greenest of the green, neon green, mega 90’s green😂). The “original” Clean perfume seems to have been tinkered with as well. The Body Shop White Musk, ditto. I get it, because of all the new industry regulations the past few years, but it can still kinda break your heart. My best friend says Noa is different now, too.

I blind bought ysl black opium and it’s not all out terrible, I can appreciate what it’s doing. But I can never wear it. It’s so so strong! I need to find someone who loves it to gift it too lol
Orange blossom is my favourite note but I understand what you mean about the synthetic type. I used to collect them as a child and I’m still inlove with the smell to this day. I do enjoy Voce Viva I think it’s incredible and beautiful. The same way I enjoy Levant which is also orange blossom. I’m not offended, each to their own. I despise Angel to me it smells like the mud in the plant pots. You have great tastes in perfumes Anne and I have at least 95% similar tastes as you do.

I'm with you on Alien, I don't quite get the hype. I don't despise it as much as some people do, but how is it so many people's favorite fragrance? It's a jasmine sambac bomb and not even close to the best jasmine fragrance out there.
When you said you like about 10% of the fragrances you test, I had to subscribe. I'm so damn picky. Even among the fragrances I like and appreciate, there's still only a tiny fraction I would actually want to smell like.
Yes!! You get me! I understand how people enjoy certain fragrances, but for me to bring a bottle into my collection, it has to be an absolute love for me. Usually there's something I would want to change in most of the fragrances I try

I'm excited about someone mentioning Voce Viva, cause I hate it wholeheartedly. And orange blossom isn't the only problem with it, it's just universally trashy and obviously overpriced. Hi, honey! New subbie from Atlanta! OMG! I got Alien from a fragrance service and I sprayed it once on my wrist to test it and my husband and kids wouldn't get near me until I showered. THREE TIMES!!! 🧼 🚿 And that STILL wasn't enough. Girl! My family didnt even want me to make dinner. They went out to dinner. WITHOUT ME!!! 😭 SO, I agree. 💯 And so do 8 members of my family. 😂

I remember in the late 2000's I sprayed Samsara EDT on my wrist and it got on the inside of my jacket sleeve while in a drug store, Shoppers here in Canada. I walked around for a little bit and left the store; as I was sitting and waiting for my ride, I smell my sleeve and it is the most divine like creamy woodiness with very little florals like in the background (the florals were incredibly beautiful but muted). At the time I didn't have money (poor and in college) so I couldn't get it. Years passed and I'm deciding to get it and read all the reviews. Most of the reviews I read tell me that the EDP is basically the same scent but longer lasting and stronger. So I decide to buy the EDP -- from Amazon. I get it and it is just loud, synthetic florals with like a rubbing alcohol scent. It was awful. I just thought I bought a fake on Amazon. Like, when I smelled the cap of the perfume bottle, I get more florals but the woody scent is there and what I'm looking for but the actual spray was bad. A few more years later, I decide to get the EDT since that was what I smelled all those years ago but Samsara EDT and EDP were reformulated several times since I first smelled it and cautiously decided to get the smallest size. But again it was screechy, loud, synthetic florals, very vintage/dated scent, that rubbing alcohol scent that doesn't dissapate, and it never truly evolves to highlight the sandalwood and that woodiness. This was from a reputable seller so I know it's authentic and sadly this is what Samsara now smells like. So I understand why people don't like it especially the reformulations available. But I wish they would release the version I remember smelling -- I've smelled some beautiful perfumes, one even got me a compliment from a friend. But the Samsara I smelled stopped me dead in my tracks. It was truly divine and breath-taking.
And believe me, I tried to work with the EDT: I didn't overspray, I sprayed it in the air and walked into the cloud, I let it sit and macerate; I did it all and I'm so sad I'll never find that same scent I smelled so long ago.

And I have a reflection: I think it’s interesting how many American fragrance enthusiasts (you are Absolutely not the only one) are so NOT into what you refer to as ”(cherry)cough syrup” note. I hear it in so many channels. I come from Sweden and we don’t have cherry flavored cough syrup here - in fact basically nothing here has cherry flavor, at least not that I am aware of. I think that is why I´m not at all bothered by this note - in fact I think cherry notes are great and quite interesting most of the times.. It’s intriguing how one note/smell can have such an impact on the memory..
Yep, cherry is the flavor of most of our cough syrups. That said, I do love cherry. But a lot of people can't detach it from medicine.

I cannot get on board with Kilian's Love. It makes my stomach lurch, it's so cloying 😩 I also don't get the Alien hype and I loooooove white florals and amber notes. I wanna know what everyone else is smelling that I'm not smelling 🤔

Its like the Champagne Toast scent from BBW. Everyone I know loves it, but it just smells like something I would wear when I was in middle school. My mom bought me a set of it and I ended up giving it away 😭. Just not something I would wear

I agree with your assessment of Alien. It was a blind buy based on what I thought was a trusted perfume reviewer. It smells horrid on me and. I find your takes most like my own. I was equally disappointed with Oriana by PDM, which to me is a worse version of Killian Love. Dont be Shy. Thank you for your honesty.

I find thick tuberose hard to wear especially when added to coconut.
So TF Solie Blank makes me vomit as well as Carnal Flower Frederick Malle.
Love both notes but never together.
Same with leather amd saffron. Hate the combo most times.

I respectfully disagree on La Vie Est Belle only because not only do I like it, but it lasts on my skin all day. Plus, it isn't an offensive smell on myself, it's very warm, musky, and subtle. Everyone compliments me on it. I know other fragrance junkie RUclipsrs who don't like it, and my take on it is that the fragrance doesn't work with your body chemistry if you dislike it. I agree on everything else, especially Black Opium.

Raghba smells pretty amazing, that type of skin fragrance, like it's a second skin scent I use at home where I can be close to my partner. Maybe you have the newer reformulated batch which is piss poor. Also, not a clone of Lancome, it's a clone of Scentstory 24 Gold.

There are not many fragrances I really hate, at worst I'm like mêh...But I hate Givenchy Ange ou Demon with a burning passion.
Oh wait, I tried a sample set from the replica series by Maison Martin Margiela. There were quite a lot of no-no's in there. Only one big love: by the fireplace. Also enjoyed Jazz Club, but that didn't last on me at all. The rest was all a very hard pass for me.
Oh, wait again, I keep thinking of more ones I hate. I feel very weird about Chloé Nomad. When I first smelled it, I shivered and ran away. A long time after that, I smelled it again and loved it on the paper strip in store. Sprayed it on my skin, loved it. Even bought it! On the way back, in my car, I really felt overwhelmed by the smell in the car. It got worse and worse, to the point that I almost felt sick. Returned it the next day. So strange...
Same. I thought I was gonna love Alien when I checked out the notes on Fragrantica but it was hate at first sniff.
My taste is so much different from yours, but you're hilarious and I really enjoy your videos even when you're roasting my faves
SHARP!!! Bah ha hahaha! That is the exact word I used the first time I smelled Angel 🤢! Another one I deteste is TABU!!
Mugler's Alien smells cold and, excuse the pun, alienating to me. Mugler's Angel is even worse, it smells like the armpits of a teenagers unwashed t-shirt. Sadly, Jo Malone's Red Roses opens up divine but the dry down is pure cat pee on me. Bitter Peach does has a weird note that annoys me, so it's the Davana...Also, the now discontinued Mac Shadescent's My Heroine smells like I spilt petroleum all over my body.
I hate Mugler particularly Alien and Aura. I feel weirdly dizzy when I sampled them. Smells like mentholated vanilla. Whenever someone tells me they like these perfumes, I cringe. Other perfumes that I have aversion to that are popular are Santal 33,Delina, Flowerbomb, Lancome La Vie Est Belle, or any fragrance with raspberry note.
Hahaha. No hate. It’s all very subjective plus our body chemistry with perfumes. Just funny that we seem to have the exact opposite preference in scents.😂 So does that mean whatever you recommend, I won’t like?😂 😂😂 I haven’t smelled those Alien flankers though.

Yeah alien is the most artificial Jasmin perfume, I mean the note seems to be purposely worked to smell as synthetic as possible. I could not get on board either
I adore love Tuberose, and the fact that they brought up the creamy aspect
But then I love almost all Tuberose based perfumes and for me they don’t smell mature they smell like summer nights and happiness… I was born in South America and Tuberose blooms in late summer … my memories associated with these flowers are completely different than most of North Americans

Alien is one I don't quite get either. I don't hate it but don't love it either. It's a moderate like at best. The thing that kills it for me......it doesn't bring me joy. If anything I start feeling a little down whenever I put it on. :( I really don't get the hype. One I really dislike is Hypnotic Poison. Don't get me started. But weirdly enough I love the other poisons....

Everybody seems to love these and i just get nauseated from them. Don’t know what it is, maybe the share a certain note that doesnt work for me.
I also reallyyy dislike the Robe Noir perfumes from Guerlain. Am i the only one?
Oh and Zara’s Rose Gourmand which everybody seems to love just makes me super nauseated aswell.
