I’m 27 now, but raced karts when I was young, thanks to my dad having some retired equipment and there being a small track 20 minutes drive away. While searching eBay for any racing paraphernalia I could find, I stumbled across a used copy of that exact book. I “borrowed” my moms credit card to process the $4.00 + shipping it was listed for, and when it finally arrived a month later buried my 9 year old self in it for a summer, keen to find an on track advantage that might overcome the old equipment I’d inherited.
I did go on to win some races at a few tracks locally for a few more seasons, but then had to give it all up when my parents divorced and we relocated, selling off the kart + trailer. I like to say to myself that the money ran out long before the talent did, but we’ll never know. I miss racing beyond describing and have since gone into business for the main reason of one day funding my own pleasure driving and perhaps a future sons career in motorsport…
      Anyway,
Lauda’s book sits atop my bookshelf to this day.

    1:44:23 watching F1 since 98, not dts watcher .
Here's some additional context : Monaco doesn't have to be preserved at it's current layout. the 10-11 chicane didn't exist back in the day.
We had MORE overtakes into tURN 12 without that chicane, but cars approached too fast, ..... so if Monaco can be restored BACK TO HOW IT WAS, racing might improve a bit, but that comes at the EXPENSE OF SAFETY.
So To remain SAFE, F1 track designers try to slow the car mid-straight like Imola.
Sometimes, they even try to add a MAKESHIFT chicane like at the banked section of the USGP when Michelin tires with a certain carcass construction could not take the banked g-forces leading to catastrophic tire failures.
MY PROBLEM WITH CHICANES on ANY TRACK LAYOUT is that any following car that was about to go side by side midway through that original straight, often loses that advantage by the time they reach the chicane since they have to revert back / fall back into the racing line before chicane entry.
    ....

Interesting, I'm not knowledge but in fact the crash in the first lap was really no joke at all and it seems that hitting the walls is quite common can be very serious, a good point on the narrowness and safety. fwiw i thought the race was better than many in recent memory.

The problem with Alpine is obviously that Renault is not putting the money in they should for success. The chairman of Renaul hasindicated that he does not care about F1, that he is there only for marketing people wanting it.
It is kinda crazy as Renaults brand image is not very high but Alpine is legendary and Renault could build something premium from it…

There will be no last years cars championship attached to F1....some would comment as it was the function of the cart series racing format which did not work at all. This was discussed in 2012 and the issues have not changed.
F1 management does not have the necessary talent or ability to run a wider series which would substantially change the F1 business model which would not get the investors buyin.
This may take away sponsorship from Formula e and Formula 2 which is already seen as a qualifying series for F1.
Should F2 be the main series in single seat racing ? Many think its an option, but many tracks in Europe won't accommodate large numbers of cars competing in one race. Updating of Tracks around Europe will take a lot of money and buyin from national Governments. There are not the investment returns for such investments, which would take 25 years to be completed.
When the Concorde agreement comes to an end and liberty media is booted out, these changes could be once again considered.
The BSC Consulting Group has already looked at tiered racing series, but is not confident that it would be a success under the current lack lustre management model.

people are aoing on about the "poor" race at Monaco. Monaco has always been a great race , the track has barely changed but the cars have. They are at least a third larger and nearly double the weight of cars 10 years ago. My view is the track (Monaco) is still relevant but the cars are to big to race on the track.

Funny to see that the bulk of the internet F1 community starts to talk about “Emotions” within 2 minutes of their race review. I must admit that this whole ‘race’ was a sad affair because it was not a race. It was a gently bringing the “winner” to his rostrum. Charles, god bless him, won the whole affair on Saturday of course. So all 36.000 + 1 Monegasques were ‘emotional’ + 10 or 12 tv commentators from Britland + a couple of million FERRARISTI + some girls ready to marry Charles and carry his babies and his wallet … it was all very beautiful and

Peter you are wrong about Andreotti, its a infra structure problem. This is not about racing, its about maintaining sufficient levels of sponsorship for this series to be competitive. Clearly motor racing has many series so why not apply to those series...The last thing that this sport wants is state interference in F1,can you imagine a trump car, Putin car or Chinese state car in a race ? Political black mail and monopoly is such a humiliation for Andreotti.

it is so deeply disrespectful of this guy Peter to see how he completely ignores FA evry time someone ask for thigs like driving styles or short corners on the drivers in the grid nowdays . I mean he acts like Alonso doesnt exist and he gives his opinion about every single driver bar Alonso 🤨 which is totally disrespectful in my opinion . C'mon Peter , he is a double WDC and one of the only 3 WDC in the grid . He deserves some respect and recognition . In comparison drivers like Leclerc , Sainz , Lando, Piastri , Rusell, Albon , Perez or Ricciardo haven't achieved much in F1 next to what Alonso has . Have some respect man

You are being disrespectful by assuming he’s ignoring anyone who wants to talk about Alonso. 🤷‍♂️. Again you're trying to defend Lewis .......... face the FACTS, and go a bit less on your feel.
Lewis has shown to be mentally unstable and at no point has made the mental effort required since AD2021.
He has been moaning and cynical commenting for years now, showing his lack of drive and mentality.
He acts like a spoiled prat, doesn't know what it takes to work to success, as he always had the best car.
His inability to understand this kind of behaviour has never helped anyone, shows a lack of intelligence.
More importantly the best indication in F1 is your team mate, who is beating Lewis left right and center.
He's ran out of excuses (and out of steam) since 2021, he really should have retired.
I wonder how you'll defend him next year, when he'll be outscored by Charles.
