"Your mother and I are now courting, you might want to start growing accustomed to that" was my FAVORITE Dalinar quote in WoK. I don't know why but it seriously cracked me up so much I howled with laughter
Amazing how an already likeable character can just get better.
Its hilarious. "BTW I f***ed your mom"
Dalinar literally kicks the kings ass and then leaves saying "by the way im fuckiing your mom"
So fucking hilarious
Kaladin performing the kata with the spear in the chasms is another top tier scene for me.
"Kaladin spun through the last motions of the kata, chasm forgotten, bridgemen forgotten, fatigue forgotten. For a moment, it was just him. Him and the wind. He fought with her, and she laughed."
Just read for the first time and the first moment that made me cry was when Kaladin rescued a bridgeman from another crew and the man says he can’t walk back and Kaladin says “we will carry you” 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Also great scenes: any part with Szeth!!!
Ahh! I'm so sad you don't like Adolin! Yes I see the playboy maybe being an irritation, but I loved watching his struggle about doing what he thinks is right for Roshar when his father is seemingly irrational which clearly goes against his loyalty and admiration for his father. He is trying to be his own man, but still not disappoint his father.
I don’t know why but I got so much more emotional the second time reading the book at the honor chasm scene! I think because I had a better grasp on the world and already was even more emotionally invested in Kaladin and Syl
Just finished Way of Kings and loved it ❤
I didn't mind the switches to Shallan because I'm super interested in everything Jasnah is doing!
Some of my favorite moments of this book are definitely: The honor chasm, this scene made me cry. Wandersail, that was just a beautiful chapter. Finally, when Navani found out about Sadeas’s treachery and she painted the Thath “Justice” glyph, that scene just broke me.
I really enjoyed this video. I love spoiler discussions about books I’ve read. I hope you will do one for each of the books in the series.
I'm currently rereading Way of Kings, but keep interrupting myself to seek out other people talking about the Stormlight Archive & how it affected them (because it really is a series that sticks with you looong after you read it). 😆 Loved this whole discussion!!
It's interesting how different people connect with some characters more than others. For me, it was easier to connect to Shallan in Way of Kings because she is an artist like myself and her ability to capture a moment in her mind left me with a strong sense of wonder.
Weirdly, it helped me appreciate visual art more. I wasn't expecting to get that from this book.
Not to take away from Kaladin's viewpoint, which was obviously brilliant.
Second favorite scene behind Dalinar giving up his Shardblade, was definitely his final vision.
Dalinar basically stepping up and saying “I am the champion”, that was so sick. Loved the confidence in the statement, and the confidence he gains from acknowledging that.
Also Shallan having a Shardblade was something I noted down early on when we met her as being a potential when there is something said about a “sword cutting through stone like water”, but I totally missed the other hints about the “10 heartbeats”.
I always to take chapter notes and thoughts for epic fantasy that I know had politics with twists and turns
What’s with all the Shallan hate tho? I spent the whole book waiting to be back in a Shallan chapter
I feel like they were too hard on her for the scene with the robbers, saying she was "victim blaming" in particular, since Jasnah literally WAS asking for it, as in she actually did go there to purposefully seek out some muggers to kill as an object lesson for Shallan.
Is it firmly established in The Way of Kings itself that Kaladin suffers from actual depression? I do recall many instances of melancholy and his frustration of people dying around him, the Honor Chasm scene, etc. But to then make the leap (no pun intended) to clinical depression...that was not something I picked up on. Is it made more explicitly clear in the future books and people then transpose that knowledge back onto the first book? Every spoiler review I have heard references Kaladin's depression, but in my opinion, this is NOT firmly established in book one yet. His moments of grief match the fact that the people closest to him have died, so it's not as if he is sad for no reason. There is a basis for it and it is understandable. I think this may be somewhat of a spoiler that folks who have already read ALL the books are unintentionally revealing. I don't believe most people who have only read book one would come away from it ascribing this mental illness to Kaladin.
Which is the third prologue in the way of kings ?
Chapter 1, probably.
We start with a prelude to the Stormlight Archive series, then the prologue to the Way of Kings, then chapter 1 is like a prologue to Kaladin's story, before we finally enter a main character's perspective for the first time in chapter 2.
@@raizin4908 Thank you
Before I start this, can anyone tell me if this contains spoilers just for book 1 or for the whole series? I've only finished the first book so far!
There were no spoilers for other books in the series. The briefly mention that some things happen, but they are said in a vague way without any specific details or names.
My favorite scene was when Kaladin decided not to jump into the glory chasm
